  • Python Django sites on Apache+mod_wsgi with nginx proxy: highly fluctuating performance

    - by Halfgaar
I have an Ubuntu 10.04 box running several dozen Python Django sites using mod_wsgi (embedded mode; the faster mode, if properly configured). Performance highly fluctuates. Sometimes fast, sometimes several seconds delay. The smokeping graphs are al over the place. Recently, I also added an nginx proxy for the static content, in the hopes it would cure the highly fluctuating performance. But, even though it reduced the number of requests Apache has to process significantly, it didn't help with the main problem. When clicking around on websites while running htop, it can be seen that sometimes requests are almost instant, whereas sometimes it causes Apache to consume 100% CPU for a few seconds. I really don't understand where this fluctuation comes from. I have configured the mpm_worker for Apache like this: StartServers 1 MinSpareThreads 50 MaxSpareThreads 50 ThreadLimit 64 ThreadsPerChild 50 MaxClients 50 ServerLimit 1 MaxRequestsPerChild 0 MaxMemFree 2048 1 server with 50 threads, max 50 clients. Munin and apache2ctl -t both show a consistent presence of workers; they are not destroyed and created all the time. Yet, it behaves as such. This tells me that once a sub interpreter is created, it should remain in memory, yet it seems sites have to reload all the time. I also have a nginx+gunicorn box, which performs quite well. I would really like to know why Apache is so random. This is a virtual host config: <VirtualHost *:81> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName example.com DocumentRoot /srv/http/site/bla Alias /static/ /srv/http/site/static Alias /media/ /srv/http/site/media WSGIScriptAlias / /srv/http/site/passenger_wsgi.py <Directory /> AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /srv/http/site> Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> Ubuntu 10.04 Apache 2.2.14 mod_wsgi 2.8 nginx 0.7.65 Edit: I've put some code in the settings.py file of a site that writes the date to a tmp file whenever it's loaded. I can now see that the site is not randomly reloaded all the time, so Apache must be keeping it in memory. So, that's good, except it doesn't bring me closer to an answer... Edit: I just found an error that might also be related to this: File "/usr/lib/python2.6/subprocess.py", line 633, in __init__ errread, errwrite) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/subprocess.py", line 1049, in _execute_child self.pid = os.fork() OSError: [Errno 12] Cannot allocate memory The server has 600 of 2000 MB free, which should be plenty. Is there a limit that is set on Apache or WSGI somewhere?

  • apache & load balancing?

    - by Mani
In apache, mod_proxy_balancer support loan balancing in the easiest way. My question is: Please refer the https://blogs.oracle.com/oswald/entry/easy_http_load_balancing_with When the result the request is processed by workers (load balancing nodes), it comes to load balancing server and then go to client or directly from workers it goes ? plz answer me. Example: Method 1: Web Client -- Load Balancer - Worker - Load Balancer - Web Client OR Method 2: Web Client -- Load Balancer - Worker - Web Client What is happening in apache load balancer ?

  • What do .# file names mean in Linux?

    - by Martin Wiboe
This is probably trivial, but I'm quite new to Linux and I was unable to find any info online. In a folder, I can execute the command find . -regex '.*py' and get the following result: ./.#netMHC3.2.py Is this a file in the current directory? What can I do to display its contents? Thank you

  • Enabling vim file type plugin

    - by person
In my .vimrc file I have this line.. filetype plugin indent on and then in ~/.vim/ftplugin/py.vimrc (I've also tried saving it as a .vim file) I've copied and pasted a vimrc file for python standards and have enabled all of the suggested settings in it (uncommented them). When I create and open a test.py file and do something like a tab, it goes 8 spaces instead of 4. Not sure what's going wrong.

  • Run serveral daemon using python

    - by ylc
I noticed that serveral daemon invoked python seperately. For example, I have both wicd and ibus daemon running on my machine. Instead of launching a single instance of python, the daemons run with two python instance at the same time in htop: /usr/bin/python2 -O /usr/share/wicd/daemon/monitor.py python2 /usr/share/ibus/ui/gtk/main.py Is it a waste of doing that? If yes, how can I improve this? If no, why avoid putting all daemons run on a single python instance?

  • Where can I get precompiled mod_perl, mod_python for Apache on Win64?

    - by Soumya92
I have managed to set up pure 64-bit Apache, PHP, MySQL, and 64-bit distributions of Perl and Pyton. However, I cannot get Apache to automatically parse .pl files with Perl, and .py files with Python. Looking around points to mod_perl and mod_python for Apache, which unfortunately fail to build. Is there any precompiled mod_perl, mod_python for Win64? Or is there any other way of getting .pl, .py to work on Apache?

  • Why doesn't this cron work?

    - by Alex
    I do "crontab -e" and add the following line: 0 9 * * * /usr/bin/python /home/g1/g1/utils/statsEmail.py > /home/g1/log/statsemail.log But it doesn't work! Why? The script itself works. Also, the log is empty. My other command in crontab is this, and it works: 0 9 * * * /usr/bin/python /home/g1/g1/sphinx/updateall.py > /home/g1/log/updateall.log

  • Find directories that do not contain a directory?

    - by erikcw
I'm trying to figure out how to use the linux "find" command (or another command that will get the job done) to return a list of file paths/directories that do not contain a directory of a certain name. ~/web/domain1.com/public_html/bar ~/web/domain2.com/public_html/ ~/web/domain3.com/public_html/bar ~/web/domain4.com/public_html/ I want all of the paths that don't contain the directory named "bar" (domain2.com and domain4.com). Any idea how I can get find to output such a list? Thanks!

    - by Fire Lancer
What do I need to do to add an item to the right click menu for files with certain file extensions, along with sub menus? An example would be adding items to run Python files (.py, .pyw, .pyc) with a specific version of Python, so the menu for a .py files would look like say: Open 7-Zip > ...7zip stuff Run > Python 2.5 Python 2.6 Python 3.1 Edit > IDLE 2.5 IDLE 2.6 IDLE 3.1 various other items

  • How to get a safecontrol entry into manifest.xml with WSPBuilder project

    - by andrew
Upon taking the default sharepoint master page for MySite, making some changes, and making a wsp out of it with WSPBuilder, I come to these errors in my logs: http://spoint/MySite/%5Fcatalogs/masterpage/MySite.master - An unexpected error has been encountered in this Web Part. Error: The control with virtual path '_controltemplates/Welcome.ascx' is not in the safe controls list for web at URL 'http://spoint/MySite'., Source: [UnsafeControlException: The control with virtual path '_controltemplates/Welcome.ascx' is not in the safe controls list for web at URL 'http://spoint/MySite' (stack trace omitted) http://spoint/MySite/%5Fcatalogs/masterpage/MySite.master - An unexpected error has been encountered in this Web Part. And I guess I want to do this via the manifest.xml. But I do not see how to make WSPBuilder do this.

  • Python XLWT attempt to overwrite cell workaround

Hi, Using the python module xlwt, writing to the same cell twice throws an error: Message File Name Line Position Traceback <module> S:\******** write C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\xlwt\Worksheet.py 1003 write C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\xlwt\Row.py 231 insert_cell C:\Python26\lib\site-packages\xlwt\Row.py 150 Exception: Attempt to overwrite cell: sheetname=u'Sheet 1' rowx=1 colx=12 with the code snippet def insert_cell(self, col_index, cell_obj): if col_index in self.__cells: if not self.__parent._cell_overwrite_ok: msg = "Attempt to overwrite cell: sheetname=%r rowx=%d colx=%d" \ % (self.__parent.name, self.__idx, col_index) raise Exception(msg) #row 150 prev_cell_obj = self.__cells[col_index] sst_idx = getattr(prev_cell_obj, 'sst_idx', None) if sst_idx is not None: self.__parent_wb.del_str(sst_idx) self.__cells[col_index] = cell_obj Looks like the code 'raise'es an exception which halts the entire process. Is removing the 'raise' term enough to allow for overwriting cells? I appreciate xlwt's warning, but i thought the pythonic way is to assume "we know what we're doing". I don't want to break anything else in touching the module.

  • Multiple calls to different page methods in same web page are not running in parallel (JQuery/Ajax/A

    - by Tony_Henrich
    I have several page methods defined in the code behind of an aspx page. I have several JS calls (see example below), one after the other, in the ready() method of JQuery to call these page methods. I noticed the javascript calls run asynchronously but the .NET page methods do not run in parallel. Page method 1 finishes first before page method 2 runs. Is there a way to get all the page methods to run all at the same time? My workaround is to put each method in its own aspx page or use iframes but I am looking for better solutions. $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: (page/methodname), data: "{}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", success: function(msg) { .... } } });

  • Jetty 7 + MySQL Config [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext]

I've been trying to get a c3p0 db connection pool configured for Jetty, but I keep getting a ClassNotFoundException: 2010-03-14 19:32:12.028:WARN::Failed startup of context WebAppContext@fccada@fccada/phpMyAdmin,file:/usr/local/jetty/webapps/phpMyAdmin/,file:/usr/local/jetty/webapps/phpMyAdmin/ java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:252) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppClassLoader.loadClass(WebAppClassLoader.java:313) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppClassLoader.loadClass(WebAppClassLoader.java:266) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.Loader.loadClass(Loader.java:90) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration.nodeClass(XmlConfiguration.java:224) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration.configure(XmlConfiguration.java:187) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.JettyWebXmlConfiguration.configure(JettyWebXmlConfiguration.java:77) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.startContext(WebAppContext.java:975) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.ContextHandler.doStart(ContextHandler.java:586) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.doStart(WebAppContext.java:349) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerCollection.doStart(HandlerCollection.java:165) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.ContextHandlerCollection.doStart(ContextHandlerCollection.java:162) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerCollection.doStart(HandlerCollection.java:165) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerWrapper.doStart(HandlerWrapper.java:92) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.Server.doStart(Server.java:228) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration$1.run(XmlConfiguration.java:990) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration.main(XmlConfiguration.java:955) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.invokeMain(Main.java:394) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.start(Main.java:546) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.parseCommandLine(Main.java:208) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.main(Main.java:75) I'm new to Jetty and I want to ultimately get phpMyAdmin and WordPress to run on it through Quercus and a JDBC connection. Someone please tell me what is wrong with my configuration. I'm sick of digging through Jetty's crappy documentation.

  • TFS 2010 build config transform problem

    - by Zdenek
Hi all, I'm facing quite a problem while setting up automated TFS Builds. Basically I created new configuration called Tests, added transform config, defined different connection strings for the Database. Then defined TFS build, building whole solution with MSBuild arguments /p:DeployOnBuild=True /p:Configuration=Tests. The problem is that in the drop location (Build_PublishedWebsites\Project) I get web.config, web.debug.config, web.release.config and web.tests.config, however I would expect just one transformed web.config. I already checked PDC presentation Web Deployment Painkillers: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 & MS Deploy but didn't help. Thanks for any answer.

  • How to install wexpect?

    - by Justine
Hello, I'm running 32-bit Windows XP and trying to have Matlab communicate with Cgate, a command line program. I'd like to make this happen using wexpect, which is a port of Python's module pexpect to Windows. I'm having trouble installing or importing wexpect though. I've put wexpect in the folder Lib, along with all other modules. I can import those other modules but just not wexpect. Commands I've tried include: import wexpect import wexpect.py python wexpect.py install python wexpect.py install --home=~ wexpect install Does anyone have anymore ideas?

  • Django-Registration & Django-Profile, using your own custom form

    - by Issy
Hey All, I am making use of django-registration and django-profile to handle registration and profiles. I would like to create a profile for the user at the time of registration. I have created a custom registration form, and added that to the urls.py using the tutorial on: http://dewful.com/?p=70 The basic idea in the tutorial is to override the default registration form to create the profile at the same time. forms.py - In my profiles app from django import forms from registration.forms import RegistrationForm from django.utils.translation import ugettext_lazy as _ from profiles.models import UserProfile from registration.models import RegistrationProfile attrs_dict = { 'class': 'required' } class UserRegistrationForm(RegistrationForm): city = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=attrs_dict)) def save(self, profile_callback=None): new_user = RegistrationProfile.objects.create_inactive_user(username=self.cleaned_data['username'], password=self.cleaned_data['password1'], email=self.cleaned_data['email']) new_profile = UserProfile(user=new_user, city=self.cleaned_data['city']) new_profile.save() return new_user In urls.py from profiles.forms import UserRegistrationForm and url(r'^register/$', register, {'backend': 'registration.backends.default.DefaultBackend', 'form_class' : UserRegistrationForm}, name='registration_register'), The form is displayed, and i can enter in City, however it does not save or create the entry in the DB.

  • How to update Properties of Uploaded Documents on Sharepoint using Web Services ? : c#

    - by Preeti
    Hi, I am trying to Update/Edit Properties of Uploaded Document on Sharepoint 2007. My code: Lists listService = new Lists(); listService.PreAuthenticate = true; listService.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username,password); listService.Url = "http://myserver/SiteName/_vti_bin/lists.asmx"; string strBatch = "<Method ID='1' Cmd='Update'> " + " <Field Name='ID'>3</Field> " + " <Field Name='Name'>Preeti</Field> " + " </Method> "; XmlDocument xmlDoc = new System.Xml.XmlDocument(); System.Xml.XmlElement elBatch = xmlDoc.CreateElement("Batch"); elBatch.SetAttribute("OnError", "Continue"); elBatch.SetAttributeNode("UserName", "Preeti"); elBatch.InnerXml = strBatch; XmlNode ndReturn = listService.UpdateListItems(ListName, elBatch); MessageBox.Show(ndReturn.OuterXml); Refering Link.   • How to utilize WebDev.WebServer.exe (VS Web Server) in x64?

    - by Nick Craver
Visual Studio is x86 until at least the 2010 release comes around, my question is can anyone think of a way or know of an independent ASP.NET debug server that's x64 for 2008? Background: Our ASP.NET application runs against Oracle as the DB. Since we're on 64-bit servers for memory concerns later, we need to use Oracle's 64-bit drivers (Instant Client). Setup: x64 OS (XP or Windows 7) IIS (5 or 7, both x64 App Pools) Oracle 64-bit Instant Client (Separate Directory, in the PATH) Visual Studio 2008 SP1 In IIS the application pool runs as 64-bit, uses the Oracle drivers as intended, however since WebDev.WebServer.exe is 32-bit you'll get a BadImageFormatException because it's trying to load 64-bit driver DLLs in a 32-bit environment. All of our developers would like to be able to use the quick debug server via Visual Studio 2008, but since it runs as 32-bit we're unable to. Some problems we run into are during application startup, so although we're attaching to the IIS process sometimes that isn't enough to track an issue down. Are there any alternatives, or work-arounds? We would like to match our Dev/Val/Prod tiers as much as possible, so everything running in x64 would be ideal.
