  • Host a SSTP VPN Server on Windows 8

    I have a small server computer running Windows 8 at home. Currently it is hosting a PPTP VPN server using the build-in Windows 8 functionality for that. What I would want is something more secure, like an SSTP VPN server. However, I can't find any functionality of windows 8 or 3rd party software that can HOST a SSTP vpn server on Windows 8. I've only seen Client stuff and vpn pass trough services via google, all which i don't want/need. The only HOST stuff i find via google is the PPTP i set up currently. Is there any way of hosting a SSTP VPN server on my home machine? Thanks in advance, Maarten

  • How do I set up a proxy server in Xubuntu?

    NOTICE: I am completely allowed to do this. This is not meant for accessing sites I am not supposed to go on I know that most threads with "Proxy" in the title have to do with getting to sites they're not supposed to go on. I hope that I can get this to be as easy as possible. I hope it can be as easy as setting up an OpenSSH server. What happened My dad has just screwed something up in our router settings, and I can't access Google anymore because if it. I need to be able to access Google. He doesn't like me in the router because he thinks I will make it worse. (I am sick of Bing and Yahoo) So I want to set up a proxy server that will allow me to work around what he screwed up. What I want to do I want to host it on a computer in my grandpa's house, and access it with my computer at my dad's house. It's running Xubuntu. I want it to work with the Mozilla Firefox on my computer at my dad's house running Ubuntu 11.10. How can I set this up? This is only temporary until he fixes whatever he did.

    Oracle has a strict policy about not discussing product features until they appear in shipping product. Now that Solaris 11 is publically available, it is time to catch up. I will be shortly posting articles on a variety of new developments in the Solaris linkers and related bits: 64-bit Archives After 40+ years of Unix, the archive file format has run out of room. The ar and link-editor (ld) commands have been enhanced to allow archives to grow past their previous 32-bit limits. Guidance The link-editor is now willing and able to tell you how to alter your link lines in order to build better objects. Stub Objects This is one of the bigger projects I've undertaken since joining the Solaris group. Stub objects are shared objects, built entirely from mapfiles, that supply the same linking interface as the real object, while containing no code or data. You can link to them, but cannot use them at runtime. It was pretty simple to add this ability to the link-editor, but the changes to the OSnet in order to apply them to building Solaris were massive. I discuss how we came to invent stub objects, how we apply them to build the OSnet in a more parallel and scalable manner, and about the follow on opportunities that have emerged from the new stub proto area we created to hold them. The elffile Utility A new standard Solaris utility, elffile is a variant of the file utility, focused exclusively on linker related files. elffile is of particular value for examining archives, as it allows you to find out what is inside them without having to first extract the archive members into temporary files. This release has been a long time coming. I joined the Solaris group in late 2005, and this will be my first FCS. From a user perspective, Solaris 11 is probably the biggest change to Solaris since Solaris 2.0. Solaris 11 polishes the ground breaking features from Solaris 10 (DTrace, FMA, ZFS, Zones), and uses them to add a powerful new packaging system, numerous other enhacements and features, along with a huge modernization effort.   • Cleaning Up After Chrome

    I find Google Chrome, which I have no interest in, is continually getting installed on machines in my house, mostly due to Adobe Shockwave bringing it along as an install package. (Family members are agreeing to the download, not realizing the Chrome is getting dropped as well.) My major issue after uninstalling Chrome is that you can no longer click on links in Outlook emails. There is a lot on the web about this, and Google has not been proactive at fixing their uninstaller. I have now added a registry file to my Win64 systems to reset the problem registry keys and clear the error. This registry file is pretty simple. It merely resets HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html, and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml back to their default values of "htmlfile". Chrome takes over the handling of these file extensions because its default install is to make itself the default web browser. The Chrome uninstalled fails to clear/reset them. In troubleshooting this, I looked in my registry based on the web info on the Chrome uninstall problem. Since my system had never had Chrome installed, my registry did not have the problem keys. To troubleshoot, I installed (ugh!) and uninstalled Chrome. Sure enough, Chrome left the expected debris with a value string of "ChromeHTML.PR2EPLWMBQZK3BY7Z2BFBMFERU" or something similar. Resetting these values fixed the problem. I see that Chrome leaves quite a bit of debris behind in the registry. I guess it is creating the keys then leaving them behind, even though their presence (with bad data) subsequently affects operations.

  • Ubuntu firefox: some web-pages stuck on loading

    Just installed Ubuntu 10.04 beta, installation went fine and all programs are working smooth. Just this one weird network problem. Some sites simply are not opening and loading forever. For example, google.com and youtube are working well, but ubuntu.com and many other are not opening at all, or are loaded partly. One thing i noticed is that on all of those pages on firefox status bar is message "Looking up for www.google-analytics.com" (or similar remote resources) message appearing all the time (even on this page, but it somehow has loaded and working). I should mention that i tried those pages to open on windows OS on this same machine, and they opened without problems. So i am guessing that it has to be some sort of network configuration problems on Ubuntu. What could cause such problem?

  • Removing spam external links after pharma hack?

    Back in February my work's site was attacked by a pharma hack at the shared hosting end. I managed to find the placed file and the reference to run it in one of our files. I deleted this file, deleted and redownloaded all of the plugins and themes and reinstalled Wordpress. However I could never find the database entries no matter what I have read up on. Searching for known entries or for drug names backwards etc. On the Google and Bing end I have managed to deny and delete the entries and cache of most if not all of the bad links that the hack managed to instantly SEO to death (why don't these guys work legit and make more money?) However the one thing that is remaining is external links on the homepage that are invisible except when the site is viewed in google cache or scanned with unmaskparasites.com (and says that the external links are safe even though they're obviously not!). http://www.UnmaskParasites.com/security-report/?page=kmcharityteam.co.uk All sorts of website scans say there's nothing wrong with it and I can't find the source of the links in the header or footer or anywhere in the theme. I've searched for the links in the database but no use there either and they change every day so really I'd have to be looking for a generator? Does anybody have any advice or a solution for removing these links? Thanks!

  • Quickly translate a word from English

    I'm always reading English, but I'm a Spanish native speaker (I'm working on my thesis). Sometimes I need to translate a word into Spanish, and what I do now is to open a new tab and go to Google Translate and then put the word into the input field. Just a quick translation, one word or a small phrase. I'm a Mac and Firefox user. Is there a better way to achieve this? I was thinking that maybe a dashboard widget would do the trick and I was looking for one. The other option is to install the Google Toolbar, but I really hate toolbars. I don't know, a good Firefox extension maybe?

  • Thunderbird segmentation fault problem

    Hey all, my thunderbird crashes few seconds after it boots up regardless of in safe mode or normal, here is a strace log: http://pastebin.com/tccfYwcD I've searched google, ubuntu forums, and mozilla bug tracker about this problem, but any of found answers did not helped me :/ I've tried: nscd daemon install solutions posted earlier fresh clean instal of ubuntu 10.10 (32b) and thunderbird 3.1.7 from repos on a VM - problem still exists removed all thunderbrid related dot files and dot dirs, and setup profile from beginning Remove thunderbird and related stuff with apt purge, and install tb from official .deb package None of these steps helps me, tb still crashes with segmentation fault :/ I use gmail IMAP account, I've searched and found few other tips on google, but with no success. I've even tried to remove mails from web gui, that came after first notice of problem, still no luck. I'm not using any network fs, and not sharing this account with anyone, and I do not use filesystem or home encryption either just clean install :/ If You guys need some more info for this let me know. TB: 3.1.7 from repos and official package Ubuntu 32bit 10.10 with medibuntu repos, fully updated

  • Sharing wireless internet connection between 2 Ubuntu 10.04 systems using cross-over cable

    I have a Lenovo T60 with Ubuntu 10.04 connected with a cross-over cable to a Dell Vostro 1400, also running Ubuntu 10.04. My internet is coming into the Lenovo through an external wireless antennae, and I want to share the internet with the Dell. On the Lenovo: eth0 connection has IPv4 Settings 'Shared to other computers' I can ping the Dell (10.42.43.10) successfully I can use mtr to trace to www.google.com successfully On the Dell: eth0 connection has IPv4 Settings 'Automatic DHCP' I can ping the Lenovo (10.42.43.1) successfully when I use mtr to trace to www.google.com, I can only reach 10.42.43.1 I must be missing some setting, but cannot see what it is; can anyone help me?

    When I try to send a mail from my Linux (CentOS) server, the exit status is 0, but the mail never reaches it's destination. The /var/log/maillog file has an entry something like this... Mar 18 06:33:01 app11 postfix/qmgr[22454]: F18FD9F6074: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=0.01, delays=0/0/0/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[74.125.45.27]: Connection refused) Am I blocked by google? I tried to send a mail to some other mail server and got the similar result.     A while back, maybe 6 months, I got some bad news about 2010.  Microsoft was removing Office from the MOSS equivalent of 2010, so basically my alias would be obsolete the second 2010 caught on in the community.  I thought about it for some time.  I had some discussions with friends in the community.  I even noticed that the MOSSMan changed his twitter id.  I started my blog around a WSS 3.0 project when I worked for LRS in there St. Louis Office in February/March 2007.  So I think it’s fitting to keep the name, because my community involvement centers around 2007.  My first ever speaking ordeal was at the Kansas City Office Geeks meeting in November of 2007 on Disaster Recovery where about three people attended.  The first user group meeting I ever attended was around the month of June 2007 at the KC .Net User Group about two weeks after my braces were installed.  It’s definitely fitting to say that 2007 paved the way for everything that happened in the past 2/2 1/2 years.  If anyone asks what MOSSLover means I added a description on twitter and I also added my name.  I added my name for other reasons, because I’m sick of people thinking I am the guy in the photo.  Also, I’d like people to recognize me for who I am.  Everyone should expect less of the hat in the upcoming year and more of my hair.  I’ve taken a vow to wear the hat less and less this year.  I am sick of buying hats, plus I want to move forward to gain more self confidence.  The hat does not really help.  I will still wear a t-shirt and jeans in most of my presentations.  That is who I am and it will not change any time soon.  If you expect to see me in a skirt good luck with that as it won’t be happening unless I am forced at gun point.  I hope you guys have a good weekend.  Later all… Technorati Tags: MOSSLover,Cardinal's Hat,Becky Isserman

  • Turn-Based RPG Battle Instance Layout For Larger Groups

    What a title, eh? I'm currently designing a videogame; a turn-based RPG like Final Fantasy (because everybody knows Final Fantasy). It's a 2D sprite game. These are my ideas for combat: -The player has a group of 15 members (main character included) -During battle, five of the group are designated as active, and appear in the battle. -These five may be switched out at leisure, or when one of the five die. -At any time, the Waiting members can cast buffs, be healed by the active members, or perform special attacks. -Battles should contain 10+ monsters at least. I'm aiming for 20, but I'm not sure if that's possible yet. -Battles should feel larger than normal due to the interaction of Waiting members, active members and the increased amount of monsters per battle. -The player has two rows in which to put the Active members: front and back. -Depending on the implementation, I might allow comboing of player attacks and skills. These are just design ideas, so beware! I have not been able to test this out yet- I have no idea yet if any of these ideas bunched together will make for a compelling game. What sounds good on paper doesn't necessarily have to be good in practice! What I'm asking now is how to create the layout for this. My starting point are the battles in Final Fantasy VI, with up to 5-6 monsters on the left and the characters on the right- monsters on both sides if it's a pincer attack. However, this view would not work feasible with my goal of 20 monsters and 5 characters. All the monsters on the left would appear cluttered unless I scale them far far back. If I create a pincer-like map, then there would be no real pincer-attack possible. If I space the monsters out I force the player to scroll the screen- a game mechanic I've come across and not enjoyed imho. My question is: does anybody have any layouts or guides for designing battle maps in turn-based RPGs, especially with a larger number of enemies taken into consideration? How should it look? I am not asking for specific combat mechanics, just the layout for the moment.

  • Ubuntu 12.04 x64 LTS VPN Server not changing IP

I'm able to connect but the problem is, that my IP being changed to "localip" not "remote ip".
