• Macro to copy values to new sheet and prompt user where they want to save

  I'm looking to create a macro in Excel 2007 which will do the following: copy the formatting and values from a sheet called 'report', insert this into a new workbook, naming the file with the value in 'B9' and appending the word 'report' to this when copying the data into a new workbook, the formatting of the original should be retained, but cell contents pasted as values rather than formulas prior to saving the file with the above name, the user will be prompted to choose their folder at the end, a message will be displayed alerting the user that the file has been saved successfully Any assistance would be much appreciated. • Include new rows in autofilter range

  I am working with an excel 2007 worksheet that has the "filter" applied so that each column heading has a pull-down menu for sorting. When I add new rows to the end of the table by cut-n-paste from the last row, these new rows are not included in the sorting. I can't seem to get the newly added rows to be included in the filter range. I tried un-selecting and re-selecting the "filter" button and also tried the "reapply" button. The "clear" button is always greyed out. I can't seem to find any relevant help for this online anywhere. Not sure if it matters, but the heading row and the first column are set to be "sticky" (they don't scroll with the rest of the table.)

• What could slow Excel on one PC but not another?

  I have 2 PC with the same configuration. I open an Excel File (~5M) on the network from both PC. The opening is not the fastest but that's ok. The problem is that on one PC, Excel is really slow. I mean if I hit the left arrow 10 times, I will have finished hitting like 3 seconds before the active cell is the next 10th one. The file contains graphics that takes time to initialize on the slowed computer. Both PC have the same graphic cards, same driver version; both remote access to the file on a local network. Both configured to perform calculations automatically. Both Excel 2007. Both Windows 32bit. On the other PC it runs really fast. I really don't know what to check next. Any suggestions ?

  Hi, I need to automate the migration from an Access (2003) to an SQL Server DB (2005 or 2008). The upsizing should be done automatically as part of a build process. I need that because there are 2 versions of the software, a single user rich client and a web version. Access DB is used for single user to minimize setup effort, SQL Server to improve performance and scaling with many simultanious users. Access should be the "leading" DB, meaning devs do changes in Access DB and those are propagated to the SQL server within the build process. Many changes will occur, so doing it manually is not an option. I am new to the Microsoft world, so I dont know appropriate tools for that. What tools can I use and how? I know how to do it (by clicking) with the upsizing assistant. Perhaps I can automate that somehow? Thanks in advance for your answers. Cheers, Arne

  Our organisation uses inline sql. We have been tasked with providing a suitable data access layer and are weighing up the pro's and cons of which way to go... Datasets ADO.net Linq Entity framework Subsonic Other? (please note that I am pretty much a newbie in terms of networking and I work primarily on the windows platform) I have been working on accessing and consuming some web services in C#/ASP.Net, these web services that I consume are IP restricted. Currently they allow access only from my work network (we have a static ip set up through which all our internet requests are routed). Every now and then we have people who go out and about and are stuck with using a usb dongle based internet connection and hence are not able to now access these web services that they are working on. What I would like to do is to provide some way for these remote workers to access the IP restricted web services using the static ip at our office. For example when the remote worker tries to access a service say http://exampleService.com .. the request gets routed to some box at our office and then out to the actual service. That way the service always sees the static ip of the office and not the dynamic ip that the remote user is actually using. I have done a fair bit of googling and its difficult to search for it as most of the results come back for dynamic DNS which is not really what I am looking for. I have also looked at a couple of posts on here namely Accessing IP restricted server from dynamic IP which does provide some insight but the fellow seems to have access to the source that does the ip restriction and is able to change the restrictions. In my case i dont have that access. another one that looked interesting was Static IP for dynamic IP the first answer seems exactly what I need but I dont know how I would go about doing the same on a windows machine. any help would be really appreciated. (am sorry about being soo noob-ish) PS: Right now everyone is using RDC/LogMeIn to access an internet connected machine in the office to manually check the webservice and getting work done. Which is a very tedious process.

• DHCP forwarding behind access list on a Cisco Catalyst

  I'm having some trouble with forwarding DHCP from a subnet behind an access list on a Cisco Catalyst 4500 switch. I'm hoping somebody can see the mistake I'm making. The subnet is defined like this: (first three octets of IP addresses and vrf name anonymized) interface Vlan40 ip vrf forwarding vrf_name ip address 10.10.10.126 255.255.255.0 secondary ip address 10.10.10.254 255.255.255.0 ip access-group 100 out ip helper-address 10.10.20.36 no ip redirects I tried turning on a VMWare machine on this subnet that was configured to use DHCP, but I never got a DHCP response and the DHCP server didn't receive a request. I tried putting the following in the access-list: access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.10.254 host 10.10.20.36 eq bootps access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.10.254 host 10.10.20.36 eq bootpc access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.20.36 host 10.10.10.254 eq bootps access-list 100 permit udp host 10.10.20.36 host 10.10.10.254 eq bootpc That didn't help. Can anybody see what the problem is? I know that the DHCP server works; our whole network is running off of this DHCP server I also know that the subnet works because we have active servers running on the network The DHCP scope is already defined on the DHCP server The subnet is correctly defined on the VMWare server (already servers running on the subnet on VMWare) Edit 2012-10-19: This is solved! The subnet had formerly been defined as a /25 network, but was then expanded into a /24 network. When the DHCP scope was altered after this change it was done incorrectly; the gateway was moved to .254, the leasable IP range was in the lower half of the /24 subnet but we forgot to change the CIDR prefix from /25 into /24. This happened some 2 years ago, and we didn't need to use DHCP on this server network again until this week. Thank you MDMarra and Jason Seemann for looking at the question and trying to troubleshoot. Now I'm wondering if I should mark Jason's answer as the accepted answer (I am new to the Stack Exchange network, so I don't know the etiquette of what to do if I misstated the question like in this case).

• Can not access SQLServer database

  I'm trying to convert an Access database to use a SQLServer backend. I've upsized the database and everything works on the server, but I'm unable to access it remotely. I'm running SQLServer Express 2005 on Windows Server 2003. The server is not configured as a domain controller, nor connected to a domain. The computers I'm trying to access the server from are part of a domain, but there are no local domain controllers. I'm at a remote location and the computers are configured and connected to the domain at the home office, then shipped to us. We normally log in with cached credentials and VPN into the home office when we need to access the domain. I can use Remote Desktop Connection to access the 2k3 server which is running SQLServer. If I log into the server with my username, I can bring up the database, access it via the Trusted Connection, and the database works. If I try to run the database locally, however, I get the Server Login dialog box. I can not use a Trusted Connection because my local login is to the home office domain and is not recognized by the SQLServer machine. If I try to use the username/password that is local to the SQLServer, I get a login failed error. I've tried entering the username as "username", "workgroup/username" (where "workgroup" is the name of the workgroup on the SQLServer), "sqlservername/username" and "[email protected]" where "1.2.3.4" is the IP of the SQLServer. In all cases, I get a login failed error. As I said, I can login to the server via Remote Desktop Connection with the same username and password and use the database, so permissions for the username appear to be correct for both a remote connection and for database access. Not sure where to go from here and any assistance would be appreciated.

• Debugging feature activation in SharePoint 2007

  I have a SharePoint feature that is activated under 'Site Collection Features' that is having some issues being activated. I've activated it through the stsadm as well as the SharePoint UI, both unsuccessful. The feature toggles from deactivated to activated, but the result that should be there is not. The result is some pages that should be created. So my question is does anyone know of a way to step through the activation of features process? I'd like to be able to attach Visual Studio 2008 to the browser and step through a few breakpoints that I've set. • Access Denied on LAN IIS Access via Integrated Authentication

  I have an IIS 7.5 (Win2k8R2) Webserver, which publishes an UNC Share (on a Fileserver) with restricted access. The AppPool Identity is a Domain User-Account with read access to mentioned UNC path. Authentication modes are set to Anonymous and Integration Authentication. When I access the path via localhost from the Webserver itself, it works, but if I try the Hostname or IP from either the Webserver or a Client, I get three authentication prompts (does not accept my credentials) and a 401.3 Unauthorized error message (but it states that I am logged in as my normal credentials which definitely have access rights to the UNC path and its files). Security Zone is set to Local Intranet. Sysiniternals Process Monitor lists CreateFile operations on the UNC path (and other existing files in it) with Access Denied and Impersonating on the correct credentials. I don't understand why it is not working, it seems to use the correct credentials on every step on the way but fails with is operations.

• How Do I Restrict Repository Access via WebSVN?

  I have multiple subversion repositories which are served up through Apache 2.2 and WebDAV. They are all located in a central place, and I used this debian-administration.org article as the basis (I dropped the use of the database authentication for a simple htpasswd file though). Since then, I have also started using WebSVN. My issue is that not all users on the system should be able to access the different repositories, and the default setup of WebSVN is to allow anyone who can authenticate. According to the WebSVN documentation, the best way around this is to use subversion's path access system, so I looked to create this, using the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. When I do this though, I keep getting "403 Forbidden" messages. My files look like the following: I have default policy settings in a file: <Location /svn/> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository Order deny,allow Deny from all </Location> Each repository gets a policy file like below: <Location /svn/sysadmin/> Include /var/lib/svn/conf/default_auth.conf AuthName "Repository for sysadmin" require user joebloggs jimsmith mickmurphy </Location> The default_auth.conf file contains this: SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository AuthType basic AuthUserFile /var/lib/svn/conf/.dav_svn.passwd AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/lib/svn/conf/svnaccess.conf I am not fully sure why I need the second SVNParentPath in default_auth.conf, but I just added that today as I was getting error messages as a result of adding the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. With a totally permissive access file [/] joebloggs = rw the system worked fine (and was essentially unchanged), but as I soon as I start trying to add any kind of restrictions such as [sysadmin:/] joebloggs = rw instead, I get the 'Permission denied' errors again. The log file entries are: [Thu May 28 10:40:17 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET websvn:/ [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET svn:/sysadmin What do I need to do to get this to work? I know most of the configuration is correct, as I have added [/] joebloggs = rw at the start and 'joebloggs' then has all the correct access. • How Do I Restrict Repository Access via WebSVN?

  I have multiple subversion repositories which are served up through Apache 2.2 and WebDAV. They are all located in a central place, and I used this debian-administration.org article as the basis (I dropped the use of the database authentication for a simple htpasswd file though). Since then, I have also started using WebSVN. My issue is that not all users on the system should be able to access the different repositories, and the default setup of WebSVN is to allow anyone who can authenticate. According to the WebSVN documentation, the best way around this is to use subversion's path access system, so I looked to create this, using the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. When I do this though, I keep getting "403 Forbidden" messages. My files look like the following: I have default policy settings in a file: <Location /svn/> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository Order deny,allow Deny from all </Location> Each repository gets a policy file like below: <Location /svn/sysadmin/> Include /var/lib/svn/conf/default_auth.conf AuthName "Repository for sysadmin" require user joebloggs jimsmith mickmurphy </Location> The default_auth.conf file contains this: SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository AuthType basic AuthUserFile /var/lib/svn/conf/.dav_svn.passwd AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/lib/svn/conf/svnaccess.conf I am not fully sure why I need the second SVNParentPath in default_auth.conf, but I just added that today as I was getting error messages as a result of adding the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. With a totally permissive access file [/] joebloggs = rw the system worked fine (and was essentially unchanged), but as I soon as I start trying to add any kind of restrictions such as [sysadmin:/] joebloggs = rw instead, I get the 'Permission denied' errors again.   So I wrote a project-management program for a small business using Microsoft Access 2007. Now they've requested lots of additional features (timekeeping, privileged data tiers ...) I personally use Linux, but the whole office uses Windows. I'm relatively new to programming but like to teach myself using projects like this. I'm right on the edge on this -- I can't really tell what the path of least resistance here is: do I stay in access + VBA and teach myself a dying, annoying language -- while struggling against all the limitations of Access? Or do I move to something else? Python seems simple enough ... Whatever I use, i need to be able to offer a GUI.

In doing googling and reasearch and talking to friends I ended up with router - cisco rv016 wifi access point - airnet 1142 lightweight access point. (lap1142n) In trying to set all this up and reading I think I bought the wrong access point. It seems I need a wireless controller? Can someone confirm that I should not have bought the lightweight one?

• Problems with cross forest authentication in SQL Reporting

  We're currently running an SQL 2008 R2 Cluster with Reporting Services running, all for use with System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 (RU3). Our users are on a different domains to the SCOM and SQL servers (we have two domains as we are in the process of a domain migration) We have no problems at all with users accessing reports via the SCOM Console or the Web interface if they are on the new domain which runs at 2008 R2 functional level. However users on the old domain (which runs at a 2003 functional level) cannot access reports on SCOM or via the web interface (http://sqlserver/reports) The error we get is: An error occurred when invoking the authorization extension. (rsAuthorizationExtensionError) For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors Taking the errors advise we logged on to the SQL server as a user on the old domain (which works fine!) and then try to authenticate with the reporting via the web interface which produces this most useful of errors: An error occurred when invoking the authorization extension. (rsAuthorizationExtensionError) The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason. Things we've tried: Recreating the trust between domains Ensuring the SQL Reporting service account was a member of Windows Authorization Access Group on the 2003 domain Added users on the 2003 domain explicitly to the Reporting Users group on the SQL Server Has anyone come across this issue before perhaps in a different scenario? If so how was it resolved? Thanks in advance for any help.

• Why is my Current Printer unavailable in Office ?

  Whenever I try to print any document from Microsoft Office 2007 in Windows Vista 64-bit there is a great possibility that the print job will fail with the following error message: Current printer is unavailable. Select another printer. Only problem is no printer works, not even Bullzip PDF Printer. The only way to resolve this that I have found so far is a reboot, but I don't want to do that all the time. I am using Windows Vista 64-bit. I've had the problem using both SP1 and SP2. The problem occurs on both locally installed and network printers, as well as the virtual printer Bullzip PDF Printer. My primary source of the problem has been Excel, but the error has also occurred in Word. Changing the default printer and restarting the Microsoft Office-application solves this temporarily, but not permanently. Google:ing the error message returns a lot of questions but no solutions, so seems like a frequent problem. What could be a permanent solution for this problem? UPDATE: It seems that my problem stems from me opening MS Office applications by opening a document from Total Commander with administrative rights. This somehow makes the applications not find the printers. Opening MS Office applications either from the Start menu or by opening a document in a non-administrator Explorer allows me to print.

• Office Communicator and cannot sync Address book error

  We are trying to get OCS 2007 R2 up and running. The clients login fine, but when I let it sit for a while, we still get the address book sync error message of: "Cannot synchronize with the corporate address book. This may be because the proxy server setting in your web browser does not allow access to the address book. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator". When I try and download the file locally, this error comes up: Could not load file or assembly 'ABServerHttpHandler, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant minimum permission requests. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131417) I googled and came across this post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/ocsaddressbook/thread/c28ff2d8-66a4-456c-a5ad-e445a667e8ed) which suggests removing and reinstalling .NET 2.0 but that didn't seem to resolve the issue either. When we run abserver.exe -validateDB it works properly. We even tried the suggestion from Greg's Blog (http://blogs.technet.com/greganth/archive/2009/03/11/office-communicator-notifications-cannot-synchronize-address-book.aspx) about restarting the web component services but that didn't work either. Still seeing the same issue. So does anyone have an idea of where we go from here?

• Sharepoint db issue after DB move to SQL 08

  Recently we have moved our sharepoint 2007 db from sql 2000 server to 2008 x64 SQL server. All seems well, however there is a problem where the sql server stops running and the service has to be restarted. The errors mention insufficient internal memory etc. I have tried to start the db using -g384 which is the default in sql 2000 but 256 is default for 2008 I believe. This has not rectified the issue. I was advised that perhaps the issue may be rectified by upgrading to wss 3.0 sp2 however When I have tried to install this i get another error post sp2 update and have to refer back to a vm snapshot. The error after the service pack is Server error: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=96177 So I guess I have a few questions How can I fix the first issue and the 2nd issue. I have checked out many forums and posts and have tried a few things and still get no joy. Any assistance would be great. UPDATE I have fixed the Server error: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=96177 the i needed to run the wss sp2 as well as the office servers sp2 then the config wizard then the moss configuration worked. The errors I am getting in SQL are SQL Server was unable to run a new system task, either because there is insufficient memory or the number of configured sessions exceeds the maximum allowed in the server. Verify that the server has adequate memory. Use sp_configure with option 'user connections' to check the maximum number of user connections allowed. Use sys.dm_exec_sessions to check the current number of sessions, including user processes. A read operation on a large object failed while sending data to the client. A common cause for this is if the application is running in READ UNCOMMITED isolation level. The connection will be terminated. There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query. These errors are by a user that was created as a service for sharepoint.

• How to inspect remote SMTP server's TLS certificate?

  We have an Exchange 2007 server running on Windows Server 2008. Our client uses another vendor's mail server. Their security policies require us to use enforced TLS. This was working fine until recently. Now, when Exchange tries to deliver mail to the client's server, it logs the following: A secure connection to domain-secured domain 'ourclient.com' on connector 'Default external mail' could not be established because the validation of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate for ourclient.com failed with status 'UntrustedRoot. Contact the administrator of ourclient.com to resolve the problem, or remove the domain from the domain-secured list. Removing ourclient.com from the TLSSendDomainSecureList causes messages to be delivered successfully using opportunistic TLS, but this is a temporary workaround at best. The client is an extremely large, security-sensitive international corporation. Our IT contact there claims to be unaware of any changes to their TLS certificate. I have asked him repeatedly to please identify the authority that generated the certificate so that I can troubleshoot the validation error, but so far he has been unable to provide an answer. For all I know, our client could have replaced their valid TLS certificate with one from an in-house certificate authority. Does anyone know a way to manually inspect a remote SMTP server's TLS certificate, as one can do for a remote HTTPS server's certificate in a web browser? It could be very helpful to determine who issued the certificate and compare that information against the list of trusted root certificates on our Exchange server.

• Outlook and IMAP - Outlook doesn't allow the Drafts and Trash folders to sync with the respective IMAP folders

  I'm using Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 against an IMAP server (the problem exists across many, like Gmail, you name it). Outlook lets you set your Outlook "Sent" folder to map to the IMAP server's Sent folder (the other choice is to map your Outlook Sent to your Personal Folders Sent) - this is good. When you send a message from Outlook and then look in the sent folder of the IMAP server (e.g. from a different client or from a browser), the messages are there. This is the behavior I want. Outlook does NOT support the same behavior for Drafts and Trash. In both cases, items deleted (or Drafts saved) in Outlook go in to Outlook's local folders and do NOT show on the IMAP server's Trash or Drafts folders. Same problem in reverse. Thunderbird on the other hand does support the proper mapping of Drafts, Sent and Trash. I expected this to be IMAP-specific but it appears to be client specific. What does Outlook implement it this way and is there a workaround?

• Two large, linked Excel files take 30 minutes to save, except in VMWare environment

  I support some tax consultants who love to use Excel when they should probably be using Access. Anyway, they have created two Excel files, A and B. File B has cells linked to file A. File A is 27 MB and file B is 16 MB. One worksheet has roughly 1 million rows and there is another worksheet doing a whole bunch of SUMIF on the 1 million rows. Not the best idea, but whatever. Both Excel files open and recalculate within a reasonable amount of time (1-2 minutes). For a files that large, this is acceptable. Here is the problem: Once you change a cell, and save the file B, it takes a solid 30 minutes to save the file, and the processors are going full speed. I've tried this on 6 different machines, all running Windows XP SP3 with Office 2007 SP2 and all patches. The specs vary from one machine with 512 MB or RAM to a machine with 4 GB of RAM and quad processors. Same result every time. Here is the clincher: If I do this same save operation on a VMWare virtual machine, the file gets saved in 1 minute. I've tried this with my ESX servers at the office, my Mac Fusion at home, and VMWare workstation at the office. It does not matter how much RAM the virtual machine has... it saves in about 1 minute every time. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and how to fix?
