  Ok...so for some reason by Ubuntu 10.04 partition won't startup anymore. I'm not exactly sure what I did. I have the feeling that I accidentally removed some important packages. However, when I startup in Recovery Mode and select "dpkg: repair broken packages" I get this output: rm: cannot remove /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/*': No such file or directory rm: cannot I'm not exactly sure what I should do. I don't want to reinstall ubuntu, since I have it dual booted with Windows Vista and I don't want to risk anything on the Windows partition.   From the documentation, I can't figure out what criteria an ISA server uses to figure out if a cached file is valid when no cache-related info is in the response header. Let's say I got this header in my response on Thu, 13 Jan 2011 18:43:35 GMT: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2011 18:43:35 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Content-Language: en X-Powered-By: Servlet/2.5 JSP/2.1 Keep-Alive: timeout=15 Connection: Keep-Alive Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 There's no cache directive, no last-modified field, no expires field. How will the ISA server decide for how long to cache this response?

  In a workbook I have 7 sheets(Totals and then Mon to Sat),I want to extract rows which have the word "CHEQ" in its cell (this is a dropdown list with two options-CHEQ/PAID)from all sheets. On my front sheet I used this formula: =IF(ROWS(A$13:A13)>$C$10,"",INDEX(Monday!A$3:A$62,SMALL(IF(Monday[Paid]=$A$10,ROW(Monday[Paid])-ROW(Monday!$I$3)+1),ROWS(A$13:A13)))) This formula works fine for one worksheet (eg. Monday) but is it possible to show the extracted rows from all 6 sheets on the front page? I only have Excel NOT Access. • Port forwarding not working?

  I'm trying to set up an Apache Server to be accessed publicly. I'm using a Netgear R4500 router hooked up to a Motorola SB6121 modem. I can access my server on my computer by typing in my IP address. After following the instructions to forward port 80 so I can access the server from other computers, it does not work (see image). I get "This webpage is not available". I am forwarding to the IP address of my computer. Using this Network Port Scanner Tool, it says "80/tcp filtered http", which, as I understand it, means forwarding did not work correctly. In my Apache httpd file, I have: ServerName 192.168.1.13:80 and Listen 192.168.1.13:80 Anyone know what's wrong or have something I can try? click to enlarge

• Windows doesn't get access to internet though linux easily does

  We have a very interesting problem. The network is configured in this way: internet is connected to Trendnet switch TS DHCP server at 192.168.0.1 running on Ubuntu (S) is connected to internet switch DNS is also configured on 192.168.0.1 on S D-Link Wi-Fi boosters are connected to switch TS PCs use D-Link PCI-E Wi-Fi cards to get access to network PCs have both Ubuntu and Windows 7 There are about 40 PCs. When PC is booted to Ubuntu it easily gets access to internet. But when it's booted to Windows 7, it gets a valid IP-address, but doesn't get access to internet. The address, mask, DNS, GW-address are totally the same as when it's booted under Ubuntu. The S is reacheble and pingable. Sometimes when we are lucky the PC gets access to Internet, but after rebooting it can lose it. When PC under Windows has access, it has totally the same settings as when it doesn't. What can be done? UPDATE I shared a dropbox with 2 captures of traffic. Ping.pcap is a capture of pinging 8.8.8.8. And google-browser.pcap is a capture of opening a google.com in a browser, both of them are in tcpdump formats and made by Wireshark on Win PC. The MAC of Win PC ends on b7:63 and IP is 192.168.0.130. At some point, I was trying to enable WYSIWYG in an edit form 'content' field and suddenly, my adminhtml grid and edit blocks stopped being generated. On my system are TinyMCE and Fontis FCKEditor WYSIWYG editors extensions. I'm not sure what I did wrong but my adminhtml blocks will no longer generate.   Lets say I have 20 files named FOOXX, where XX is the number of the file, eg 01, 02 etc. At the moment, if I want to delete all files lower than the number 10, this is easy and I just use a wildcard, eg rm FOO0* However, if I want to delete specific files ina range, eg 13-15, this becomes more difficult. rm FPP[13-15] does not work, and asks me if I wish to delete all files. Likewse rm FOO1[3-5] wishes to delete all files that begin with FOO1 So, what is the best way to delete ranges of files like this? I have tried with both bash and zsh, and I don't think they differ so much for such a basic task?

• How can I regress a number series in Excel?

  I'd like to use these data to derive an equation using Excel. 300 13 310 12.6 320 12.2 330 11.8 340 11.4 350 11 360 10.8 370 10.6 380 10.4 As x goes up, y goes down. Seems straightforward. But when I do a polynomial regression on these data, even though the trendline matches the data pretty well, the equation it generates doesn't work. The equation is When I plug in x values to that equation, the numbers go up! So something is pretty wrong here. My steps: place both number series in excel select the second set (13, 12.6 ...) plot a line graph set the first set as the x axis labels select Series1 and add a polynomial (2) trendline, display equation, display R-squared That produces the equation above, with an R^2 value of .9955. But when I use that equation, it doesn't produce those outputs for those inputs. Clearly I'm doing something wrong.

When we create a new branch, the build script will create a new database with the ID of that branch, creates the schema objects, and copies over a selection of data from the production shadow server. After the database is created, it, or other databases on the local machine, will often go into "In Recovery" mode for several minutes. After several refreshes it comes up and is happy, but will occasionally go back into "In Recovery" mode. The database is created in simple recovery mode. The file names aren't specified, so it uses default paths for files. The size of the database after loading data is ~400 megs. It is running in SQL Server 2005 compatibility mode. The command that creates the database is: sqlcmd -S $(DBServer) -Q "IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT [name] FROM sysdatabases WHERE [name] = '$(DBName)') BEGIN CREATE DATABASE [$(DBName)]; print 'Created $(DBName)'; END" ...where $(DBName) and $(DBServer) are MSBuild parameters. I got a nice clean log file this morning. When I turned on my computer it starts all five databases. However, two of them show transactions being rolled forward and backwards. • Unreadable sectors reported by smartd, is it serious?

  I have a RAID 5 array of 4 disks. In the last 2 days I began to see these messages in the log: Jun 13 23:01:05 localhost smartd[4537]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors Jun 13 23:01:05 localhost smartd[4537]: Device: /dev/sdb [SAT], 2 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors If I have 2 faulty disks then the array should not show all disks OK: md0 : active raid1 sdd1[3] sdb1[1] sdc1[2] sda1[0] 64128 blocks [4/4] [UUUU] Strangely there are no other problems just the log messages. I am worried because sda is new and I previously had problems with sdb. (Completely died but the guy who sold it to me fixed it somehow.) Am I in danger of losing data? What should I do now?

  I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and was about to manually install Rawstudio with the packages from SourceForge repo, but I've been stuck with dependency issues and I am short on apt command lines to sort this out. • ASP.NET MVC Validation Complete

  OK, so let’s talk about validation. Most people are probably familiar with the out of the box validation attributes that MVC knows about, from the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace, such as EnumDataTypeAttribute, RequiredAttribute, StringLengthAttribute, RangeAttribute, RegularExpressionAttribute and CompareAttribute from the System.Web.Mvc namespace. All of these validators inherit from ValidationAttribute and perform server as well as client-side validation. In order to use them, you must include the JavaScript files MicrosoftMvcValidation.js, jquery.validate.js or jquery.validate.unobtrusive.js, depending on whether you want to use Microsoft’s own library or jQuery. No significant difference exists, but jQuery is more extensible. You can also create your own attribute by inheriting from ValidationAttribute, but, if you want to have client-side behavior, you must also implement IClientValidatable (all of the out of the box validation attributes implement it) and supply your own JavaScript validation function that mimics its server-side counterpart. Of course, you must reference the JavaScript file where the declaration function is. Let’s see an example, validating even numbers. This allows specifying a controller and an action method just for performing the validation of a property or set of properties. This works in a client-side AJAX way and it can be very useful. Let’s see an example, starting with the attribute declaration and proceeding to the action method implementation: 1: [Remote("Validate", "Validation")] 2: public String Username 3: { 4: get; 5: set; 6: } The controller action method must contain an argument that can be bound to the property: 1: public ActionResult Validate(String username) 2: { 3: return (this.Json(true, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet)); 4: } If in your result JSON object you include a string instead of the true value, it will consider it as an error, and the validation will fail. This string will be displayed as the error message, if you have included it in your view. You can also use the remote validation approach for validating your entire entity, by including all of its properties as included fields in the attribute and having an action method that receives an entity instead of a single property: 1: [Remote("Validate", "Validation", AdditionalFields = "Price")] 2: public String Name 3: { 4: get; 5: set; 6: } 7:  8: public Decimal Price 9: { 10: get; 11: set; 12: } The action method will then be: 1: public ActionResult Validate(Product product) 2: { 3: return (this.Json("Product is not valid", JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet)); 4: } Only the property to which the attribute is applied and the additional properties referenced by the AdditionalFields will be populated in the entity instance received by the validation method. The same rule previously stated applies, if you return anything other than true, it will be used as the validation error message for the entity. The remote validation is triggered automatically, but you can also call it explicitly.
