  Hello world. My team is starting a brand new ASP.NET solution which will probably become large. Inspired by ASP.NET MVC, we currently express all data access objects in a model project. We, however, do not have good conventions for organizing ASP.NET ascx's and aspx's. We have already reviewed DotNetNuke and want to avoid the complexity of driving the whole application through a single default.aspx . What is the best way to organize a non-MVC ASP.NET solution? Your tips, links, and advice are greatly appreciated!

  Hi, I have page called filedownload.aspx , it contains grid and in grid they are three columns and in one of the column there is button which says Download , when user clicks on that button it picks file id and gives the download box to user with three options Open save and cancel .   Previously, on StackOverflow ... (Summarized) I need to capture all requests, for a particluar subdomain .. and rewrite their destination. Now, the trick to determining the host via regex was solved. Now, i need to make sure all requests to the root index page is rewritten, but i can't figure out the correct regex to find the 'homepage' / website root. this is what i have.... <if header="HTTP_HOST" match="^foo\.mydomain\.com\.au(?::\d+)?/?$"> <!-- snip some other rewrites, eg./buying/product -> ~/Pages/Foo/Bar.aspx --> <rewrite url="^/$" to="~/Pages/SomeWeirdFolder/Home.aspx" processing="stop"/> </if> Now if one of the rewrites were not found, then it falls through and continues. So .. can anyone please help?

• Should I use the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern in Silverlight projects?

  One challenge with Silverlight controls is that when properties are bound to code, they're no longer really editable in Blend. For example, if you've got a ListView that's populated from a data feed, there are no elements visible when you edit the control in Blend. I've heard that the MVVM pattern, originated by the WPF development community, can also help with keeping Silverlight controls "blendable".   Hi, I've just started to play around with MVP in asp.net. One thing I quite cant figure out is how do I pass information, i.e. an integer variable from one view(webform) to another. Let's I have a customerlistView which is mapped to a customerlist.aspx page. From it I select a customer and it's record id. Say I want to display the customer's details in another view (i.e customerDetailView, customerdetail.aspx). How do I achieve that ? Does that mean customerlistView would call the presenter of the customerdetail and cause a page redirect ? Any ideas ? thanks

  Hello everyone. I am designing a web application in ASP.NET / C# where each registered user has the ability to add/modify/delete rows based on their user-id. Take this example: I am going to edit my route on the page /route.aspx?routeid=854 which belongs to me (user-id: 1). But because I am a curious guy I try to access /route.aspx?routeid=855 which belongs to another user (user-id: 2). How can I best avoid people from accessing other peoples data? Should I send each user id (from session) with each database-call, should I validate user/password on every page load or what is the best and most secure approach? I hope I made this clear enough.

  In .NET 3.5 a new socket classes was released: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb968780.aspx i found a sample but some questions regarding best practicses are remaining: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/nclsamples/Wiki/View.aspx?title=Socket%20Performance m_numConnections (the maximum number of connections the sample is designed to handle simultaneously) is probably equal to the amount of cpu cores i have. m_receiveBufferSize is the size for one packet? like 8kb? how should i handle a length byte? opsToPreAlloc i dont understand. is this if i code a transparent proxy? Regarding the multithreading, what should be used? The reactive extension seem to be a good choice. Has anyone tried this in a real world project? Are there better options? I had bad experiences with the .NET thread pool in the past.

• Visual Studio: How to override the default "Build Action" for certain extension types per project or solution?

  I'm serving my asp.net mvc views from many assemblies and copying views to the main application on post-build event. This works, however, I realized, that when I change something in view and just hit F5, changes are not included. What I have to do to see changes is to: save, build<- explicitly clicking, and then hit F5. However, it's pretty annoying solution. I discovered that setting Build action to "Embedded Resource" on view solves the problem as well, however other devs may not remember that they have to do this after adding every view to the solution. Is there a way to override the default build action for certain file extensions, such as: *.aspx, *.ascx in project or (better) in solution ? What I've found is an ability to add this setting globally, per machine, but I do not want to do that (link: http://blog.andreloker.de/post/2010/07/02/Visual-Studio-default-build-action-for-non-default-file-types.aspx) Any ideas ?

I am sending link to my user through mail, now I want to send each user a specific URL. so instead of sending the clear text I want to send link with encrypted string URL, which I will decrypt on my home page. Like instead of www.mysite.aspx\mypage?userId=12 i'll send www.mysite.aspx\mypage?UserId=)@kasd12 and the same i'll decrypt on my page so that I'll get the userId = 12.   I'm trying to run Microsoft's .NET Framework Configuration Tool (Mscorcfg.msc). I have Visual Studio 2008 installed. I also have the following installed on my PC: Microsoft .Net Framework v1.0.3705 Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 Microsoft .Net Framework v4.0.30319 I'm not sure why, but I can't start "Mscorcfg.msc" the usual way (as suggested in the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2bc0cxhc(VS.80).aspx and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2bc0cxhc.aspx URL). I looked for "Mscorcfg.msc" on my PC and found only 1 occurence (in the C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder). When I double-click on the .msc file in Windows Explorer, I get the "MMC could not create the snap-in." message. What should I do ? Thanks

I am connected to the network. I looked at IIS, and I am pretty sure that is not the problem. If so, I would really need specifics. Any help would be appreciated.

Now what i want to do is combine both logins i.e. when i login to my server using sharepoint user's username and password i want to be redirected to my site's home page. I should not be redirected to my site's login page What should i do? Do i need to code in sharepoint's default login page present in _layouts directory? If yes how can i access login.aspx.cs ?? Plz help

I am adding html to a panel dynamically and I am trying to create a popup link. The problem is that for some reason the link gets "mixed up".   I have a project called WebResources where I have all the JS files that I intend to use in 2 other projects (all three projects sit in the same solution). I just spent 2 hours playing around with the file paths and VS just doesn't see the JS file (unless I specify the full path with the drive letter). Is there a trick to including javascript files relatively from other projects? My file structure is something like: Project1 Default.aspx Project2 WebResourcesProject /js testToInclude.js No matter how I try to include testToInclude.js inside Default.aspx, VS doesn't see it. Any ideas?

However, going back to HTTP is giving me problems because of the ReturnUrl= in the URL (I'm using webforms). • ASP.NET AJAX WebForms custom error handling question

  I've made a web application that has the following architecture: Every form is a UserControl, there is just one actual page (Default.aspx), and a parameter in the URL specifies which UserControl to load. The UserControl is loaded in an UpdatePanel so that it can enjoy full AJAX-iness. There is also an elaborate message displaying mechanism that I use. Eventually messages end up in one designated area on top of the Default.ASPX with some nice formatting 'n stuff. Now, I would also like to capture any unhandled exceptions that originate in the UserControl and display it in this area with all the bells-and-whistles that I've made for messages. How can I do this? The Page.Error and ScriptManager.AsyncPostBackError somehow don't work for me...
