• Python not Working in Vim

  I have a new install of VIM from the automatic windows installer: gvim73_46.exe I have Python 2.7 (32 bit) installed. If I open gvim, and type: :set python? I get E518: Unknown option. If I try typing: :python 'hello' Vim crashes. What could be wrong? Here are the contents of :version in case they are helpful, although python is installed, and it is using Python 2.7. I also checked, and C:\Windows\System32\python27.dll is where it should be... I am really lost here. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong?   I have a WIX installer that executes Custom Actions over the course of install. When I run the WIX installer, and it encounters its first Custom Action, the installer fails out, and I receive an error in the MSI log as follows: Action start 12:03:53: LoadBCAConfigDefaults. • Strange threads in application in Win7 WOW64

  We are observing 4-6 threads on Windows 7 x64 in the application which have 3 threads and behaves normally on any Windows (either 32 or 64 bit) prior Windows 7. Process Explorer shows the following "unknown" thread: ntdll.dll!EtwDeliverDataBlock+offset after random interval the following threads appear: ntdll.dll!TpCallbackIndependent+offset ntdll.dll!TpCallbackIndependent+offset after that application can't create thread (error code 8, hot enough space ...). It seems to me that some system DLL creates ETW threads or something. Does anyone know what these threads for and how to manage them?

• Delphi native Web Service applications not working. IIS 7 seems to be stripping the pathinfo

  I've run into an interesting problem that I never encountered with XP or IIS 6. Basically, I can't get a native Delphi (WebBroker) Web service server to work with a native Web service client in Windows 7 64-bit. Here's the most basic breakdown. If I create a new Web service application in Delphi 2010 (or any version, back to Delphi 7), and access it using IE 8, I can see the HTML that the WSDLHTMLPublish component creates, but I can never get to the SOAP. In the same way, the WSDL Importer cannot get to the SOAP either. (I have IIS 7 configured to use a 32-bit application pool, and I have created a working Script Map to the Handler Mappings. In short, the 32-bit ISAPI Web service is running). For example, I have a simple Web service server named TestService (created using the default sample interface generated when you create a new Web service server). I installed it in a virtual directory named scripts. If I enter http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl, IIS 7 displays the page http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. If I put my mouse over the WSDL link for the ITestService, I see http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl/ITestService in the status bar. However, when I click this link, the address bar shows http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll/wsdl/ITestService, but I see only the HTML from http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. There seems no way to get to the SOAP definition. IIS 7 seems to be ignoring everything after the script name (it is ignoring the pathinfo). Additional evidence that IIS7 is stripping off the pathinfo is that if I pause my mouse over the ITestService link, the statusbar shows http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll?intf=ITestService. Clicking that link takes me to another HTML page, the one associated with http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll?intf=ITestService. However, any link that includes a pathinfo following the script name, takes me simply to http://localhost/scripts/TestService.dll. I have tested this in Delphi 7, Delphi 2010, and Delphi XE, with the same results. I am guessing that IIS7 is stripping off the pathinfo, since even the WSDL Importer cannot get to the SOAP definition. Tried creating a new Web service using the CGI option, and got the same result. Have any idea what is going on? Added: Bob Swart reports he has had no problems under Windows 7 32-bit. Downloading the 32-bit OS and will try that (in a new VM).

• How to eliminate NULL fields in TSQL

  I am developing a TSQL query in SSMS 2008 R2. I am trying to develop this query to identify one record / client. Because some of these values are NULL, I am currently doing LEFT JOINS on most of the tables. But the problem with the LEFT JOINs is that now I get 1 record for some clients. But if I change this to INNER JOINs then some clients are excluded entirely because they have NULL values for these columns. How do I limit the query result to just one record / client regardless of NULL values? And if there are non-NULL values then I want it to choose the record with non-NULL values. • Will a VB6 App Using wiaaut.dll work on Windows Vista or 7?

  I downloaded the Windows Image Acquisition Automation Layer sdk redistributable from Windows and the VB6 app I wrote to capture still images from a DSLR, wia-compliant camera works great on Windows XP. Will the same app work on Windows Vista or 7? Microsoft says, "Windows Image Acquisition Automation Library v2.0 is only supported on Windows XP with Service Pack 1 installed.", but will the APIs work on newer OSs nonetheless? I really don't want to re-write the whole thing in C++ ... Is there any other option available to me if I want to keep using VB6 but want to support newer OSs?

  I have a half dozen sites on my server and I would like to get some info from IIS7 to display in the footer of each page (as long as you are an admin of course). I am going through the ServerObject and found Sites but am not finding anything obvious for "this site". What should I do to get at the information for the exact site in IIS7 that the page is running on? • odd problem with jni interacting with dll's - not sure why a change to gc ergonomics fixes it

  We were having a problem with our Tomcat jvm blowing up and giving us an hs_* dump at random times but always in the same spot, that wasn't very informative other than saying we had an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Commenting out various parts of the java that called particular jni functions just made it blow consistently in another spot. By changing our jvm options from: set PAF_OPTS=-Xms1024m -Xmx32000m -server -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+UseParallelOldGC -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseCompressedOops -Djava.library.path="%CATALINA_HOME%"\jni -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote TO set PAF_OPTS=-Xms1024m -Xmx32000m -server -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseCompressedOops -Djava.library.path="%CATALINA_HOME%"\jni -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote The problem went away. • How to add global exception handling to a add-in dll?

  Here's my context: I am writing a WPF add-in for an application. This Application's main thread is unmanaged. I want to add a global exception handling system for this add-in to handle any unhandled exceptions. Here's what I've tried but not working: I cannot add a try-catch block to my Application.Run() code line. Because I am an add-in, that code fragment is in the application. System.Windows.Forms.Application.ThreadException is not working too. There might not be an WinForm Application exists. (WPF hosting in unmanaged code.) AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException is not working too. Because maybe it's handled by the Application itself. It just doesn't enter my code. So, any ideas for this situation?

  I've tried to develop a simple winform utility which is using xml file as its database. I've used VS 2008 express edition, C#. When this utility tries to write into the xml file then this error is displayed on other computer. • Making a COM dll to be invoked from c#, HRESULT error handling?

  I'm making a COM interface that c# will be using, however i am wondering how i am to check for errors and exception handling on the c# end as at the moment i am just returning a HRESTULT or bool for most methods. But several things can go wrong in some of these methods and returning a E_FAIL just doesn't cut it. What can i do in order to return more information? Can i make a HRESULT of my own?

• How can I marshall a vector<int> from a C++ dll to a C# application?

  I have a C++ function that produces a list of rectangles that are interesting. I want to be able to get that list out of the C++ library and back into the C# application that is calling it. So far, I'm encoding the rectangles like so: struct ImagePatch{ int xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax; } and then encoding some vectors: void MyFunc(..., std::vector<int>& rectanglePoints){ std::vector<ImagePatch> patches; //this is filled with rectangles for(i = 0; i < patches.size(); i++){ rectanglePoints.push_back(patches[i].xmin); rectanglePoints.push_back(patches[i].xmax); rectanglePoints.push_back(patches[i].ymin); rectanglePoints.push_back(patches[i].ymax); } } The header for interacting with C# looks like (and works for a bunch of other functions): extern "C" { __declspec(dllexport) void __cdecl MyFunc(..., std::vector<int>& rectanglePoints); } Are there some keywords or other things I can do to get that set of rectangles out? I found this article for marshalling objects in C#, but it seems way too complicated and way too underexplained. Is a vector of integers the right way to do this, or is there some other trick or approach?
