  • Internet Explorer 8 EmulateIE7 Mode not working

    - by Ryu
I've set up IIS6 to send the following headers Custom Header Name: X-UA-Compatible Custom Header Value: IE=EmulateIE7 that supposed to force IE 8 into IE 7 Compatibility mode. You can read more about it on MSDN . I have noticed by looking in the Developer toolbar that if I have a DTD defined the document mode correctly gets set to IE 7, but the browser mode is IE 8. If the page doesn't have a DTD the document mode gets set to Quirks and Browser Mode once again IE 8. Am I doing something wrong. How do I force IE 8 to set IE 7 Browser mode. Thanks

  • Help: My SSL Certificate expired but I can't renew it until Monday, is there any way I can disable SSL through IIS?

    - by Ryan
Or perhaps force redirect to HTTP when they request HTTPS? I tried removing the SSL port settings under 'Advanced' but it broke the login page. I don't want to do a deploy/recompile right now but I am able to edit the VIEWS. However I am thinking there may be a way for IIS to do this, but then again I think the .NET code tries to force SSL. And yes, the key is that more support tickets will be caused by the browser giving a security error than if SSL was removed entirely for one day. Becaues they wouldn't very very likely not notice it being gone.

  • Overcoming Inertia - How to Just Get Going on Stuff

    - by kronoz
I wondered whether you guys could help me - I have a big problem with overcoming inertia, i.e. how to just get started on a project/work when you simply feel the inertia of not being in the right 'zone' to do work such that it really becomes pretty damn tough to actually get on with what you want to do. Forgive me quoting my blog post where I try to express the problem as best I can:- The problem is that it feels so damned difficult to exert the force required to shift from one mode to another, so much so that you find it almost inconceivable to do so at the time. You need to force yourself somehow, or at least find some sort of hack to trick yourself into it. Do you guys have any ideas/hacks as to how to overcome this? Thanks in advance, and hopefully the community feel this question is valid for stack overflow (I have set it community wiki due to its fairly subjective nature.)

  • Razor View Engine and jQuery

    - by rjovic
Hi, does anybody know how to force Razor View engine to print exact line which is under foreach loop. Code follows : @section head{ <script type="text/javascript" src="@Url.Content("~/Content/Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js")"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="@Url.Content("~/Content/Scripts/jquery.progressbar.min.js")"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { @foreach(var player in Model) { jQuery("#pb@PlayerID").progressBar(); } }); </script> } I tried using $() and jQuery() but in both case razor don't know what to do. Is there any way to force him to print exact this : jQuery("#pb@PlayerID").progressBar(); . I want to have something like this : $(document).ready(function() { $("#pb1").progressBar(); $("#pb2").progressBar(); $("#pb3").progressBar(); }); Thank you in advance!

  • The 80 column limit, still useful?

    - by Tim Post
Related: While coding, how many columns do you format for? Is there a valid reason for enforcing a maximum width of 80 characters in a code file, this day and age? I mostly use C, however this question is language agnostic. Its also subjective, so I'll tag it as such. Many individual projects set their own various coding standards, a guide to adjust your coding style. Many enforce an 80 column limit on code, i.e. don't force a dumb 80 x 25 terminal to wrap your lines in someone else's editor of choice if they are stuck with such a display, don't force them to turn off wrapping. Both private and open source projects usually have some style guidelines. My question is, in this day and age, is that requirement more of a pest than a helper? Does anyone still login via the local console with no framebuffer and actually edit code? If so, how often and why cant you use SSH? I help to manage a few open source projects, I was considering extending this limit to 110 columns, but I wanted to get feedback first. So, any feedback is appreciated. I can see the need to make certain OUTPUT of programs (i.e. a --help /h display) 80 columns or less, but I really don't see the need to force people to break up code under 110 columns long into 2 lines, when its easier to read on one line. I can also see the case for adhering to an 80 column limit if you're writing code that will be used on micro controllers that have to be serviced in the field with a god-knows-what terminal emulator. Beyond that, what are your thoughts? Edit: This is not an exact duplicate. I am asking very specific questions, such as how many people are actually still using such a display. I am also not asking "what is a good column limit", I'm proposing one and hoping to gather feedback. Beyond that, I'm also citing cases where the 80 column limit is still a good idea. I don't want a guide to my own "c-style", I'm hoping to adjust standards for several projects. If the duplicate in question had answered all of my questions, I would not have posted this one :) That will teach me to mention it next time. Edit 2 question |= COMMUNITY_WIKI

  • Java memory usage increases when App is used, but doesnt decrease when not being used.

    - by gren
I have a java application that uses a lot of memory when used, but when the program is not being used, the memory usage doesnt go down. Is there a way to force Java to release this memory? Because this memory is not needed at that time, I can understand to reserve a small amount of memory, but Java just reserves all the memory it ever uses. It also reuses this memory later but there must be a way to force Java to release it when its not needed. System.gc is not working.

  • .htaccess url rewrite with ssl redirection

    - by Stuart McAlpine
I'm having trouble combining a url query parameter rewrite (fancy-url) with a .htaccess ssl redirection. My .htaccess file is currently: Options +FollowSymLinks Options -Indexes ServerSignature Off RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / # in https: process secure.html in https RewriteCond %{server_port} =443 RewriteCond $1 ^secure$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+).html$ index.php?page=$1 [QSA,L] # in https: force all other pages to http RewriteCond %{server_port} =443 RewriteCond $1 !^secure$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+).html$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [QSA,N] # in http: force secure.html to https RewriteCond %{server_port} !=443 RewriteCond $1 ^secure$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+).html$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [QSA,N] # in http: process other pages as http RewriteCond %{server_port} !=443 RewriteCond $1 !^secure$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+).html$ index.php?page=$1 [QSA,L] The fancy-url rewriting is working fine but the redirection to/from https isn't working at all. If I replace the 2 lines containing RewriteRule ^(.+).html$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [QSA,N] with RewriteRule ^(.+).html$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}/index.php?page=$1 [QSA,L] then the https redirection works fine but the fancy-url rewriting doesn't work. Is it possible to combine these two?

  • Is there a way to set up a Linux pipe to non-buffering or line-buffering?

    - by ern0
My program is controlling an external application on Linux, passing in input commands via a pipe to the external applications stdin, and reading output result via a pipe from the external applications stdout. The problem is that writes to pipes are buffered by block, and not by line, and therefore delays occur before my app receives data output by the external application. The external application cannot be altered to add explicit fflush() calls. When I set the external application to /bin/cat -n (it echoes back the input, with line numbers added), it works correctly, it seems, cat flushes after each line. The only way to force the external application to flush, is sending exit command to it; as it receives the command, it flushes, and all the answers appears on the stdout, just before exiting. I'm pretty sure, that Unix pipes are appropiate solution for that kind of interprocess communication (pseudo server-client), but maybe I'm wrong. (I've just copied some text from a similar question: Force another program's standard output to be unbuffered using Python)

  • Difference between Class Abstraction and Object Interfaces in PHP?

    - by Mark Tomlin
    What is the difference between a Class Abstraction and an Object Interfaces in PHP? I ask because, I don't really see the point to both of them, they both do the same thing! So, what are the advantages of disadvantages using both against one or the other? Class Abstraction: abstract class aClass { // Force extending class to define these methods abstract public function setVariable($name, $var); abstract public function getHtml($template); } Object Interface: interface iClass { // Force impementing class to define these methods public function setVariable($name, $var); public function getHtml($template); }

  • Can I switch the Visual C++ runtime to another heap?

    - by sharptooth
My program uses a third party dynamic link library that has huge memory leaks inside. Both my program and the library are Visual C++ native code. Both link to the Visual C++ runtime dynamically. I'd like to force the library into another heap so that all allocations that are done through the Visual C++ runtime while the library code is running are done on that heap. I can call HeapCreate() and later HeapDestroy(). If I somehow ensure that all allocations are done in the new heap I don't care of the leaks anymore - they all go when I destroy the second heap. Is it possible to force the Visual C++ runtime to make all allocations on a specified heap?

  • How to treat compressed folders as files using ShellObject from WindowsAPICodePack?

    - by JustABill
I am trying to implement a filesystem browser using the WindowsAPICodePack for C# (.Net 4), and it works pretty well, except that the ShellObject system treats zip files as folders, whereas I'd prefer they be files. Is there some way I can force it to work this way? The low-level interop it does is beyond me. As far as I can tell, internally it asks if the item is a Folder or a Filesystem element. It then uses this (and some type checks) to figure out what it actually is. Is it safe to force it to treat it as a file if it's Compressed? Or do I have to do something else?

  • TFS Check-in Unavailable

    - by pm_2
I have a C# project that is booked into TFS. However, for some reason one of the forms within the project has not booked in. I can’t work out how to force this to book in, as right-clicking on the source file doesn’t give me the option to check-in. All the other files in the project are booked in, and I can see them using the Source Control Explorer, however, this file isn’t in there. Can anyone tell me how this could have happened, and how to force this file to check-in?

  • Svn: how to remove all deleted files from repository ?

    - by Patrick
I have a script in which I add all new files before to commit my working copy to my repository with this line: svn status | grep ^\? | awk '{print $2}' | xargs svn add I now want to add a line that delete from repository all deleted files in my working copy. In other terms, I cannot specify them one by one, and I need to detect them with svn status and then automatically remove them. However the line doesn't work. svn status | grep ^\! | awk '{print $2}' | xargs svn --force delete As you can see I've replaced "?" with "!" and "add" with "--force delete" Could you tell me why it doesn't work ? ps. I know it is a risky procedure. I've already discussed all about it. thanks thanks

  • .htaccess password and forced login

    - by Boco
I have password protected website with .htaccess. What I want to do now is to force users to login from the index.html page and not from any other which they can do now. ie. I have index.html (the main page) and I have two other pages 1.html and 2. html also protected with .htaccess password. Users can now type http://www.mypage.com/1.html and they will be asked for login data but I would like to force them (before they are asked for login details) to index.html to login. After they are loggedin they can use any link (ie.1.html or 2.html) as they want. Can this be done by using .htaccess? I would need the whole code. Thank you!

  • PC: Quick Freeze, then BSOD, then forced reboot, then freezes again

    - by cr0z3r
Lately I have been experiencing a weird issue. My PC will hang for a second and then BSOD - it stays there, so I have to reboot. Once Windows starts again and I'm logged in, after 1-10min it freezes again, this time without BSOD. RECAP: 1 second freeze BSOD, hangs there I have to force-reboot Once PC rebooted, I log back into Windows second freeze between a 1-10min range, no BSOD (alternatively, I get a freeze with a constant sound/noise, no BSOD) I contacted my PC provider, who told me my graphics-card might be flawed (Quadro 4000), so I used a Quadro 2000 that they lend me. The issue still occurred. The issue now seemed to belong to a flawed RAM module. Following my provider's steps, I removed all but the first from the left column and kept using my PC for a week or so without any issues. I then added the bottom-right module, and so on, until all modules were back inside - I had no problems. Now it seemed that a simple take-out-put-back-in of the RAM modules had fixed the issue. However, after a few months, the issue was back. I redid all the RAM-swapping I had done before, and concluded that the lower-right module was flawed. My provider changed it for another, and everything was great until now. My PC froze again for barely a second, hanged on a BSOD, I rebooted it, logged-in to Windows to get a freeze (without BSOD or reboot) 40 seconds later. Something worth noting, is that every time I reboot after the BSOD, it is something within Chrome that freezes my PC (e.g. this time I clicked the "restore" button as Chrome mentioned it had exited unexpectedly - from the previous freeze obviously - and it instantly froze). Finally, the Event Viewer lists 2 critical events in the past hour as "ID: 41, Type: Kernel-Power". PC-Specs: http://i.imgur.com/VZpbr.jpg Previous Dump-files: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/716600/DumpFiles_08_2012.zip I would like to thank anybody in advance for your help. You're great. UPDATE 1: I realized that I did not mention an awkward fact about this issue. After I have gotten the 1-sec freeze followed by a BSOD, after I rebooted because the BSOD hanged, and after I logged back in to get another (this time, eternal) freeze and rebooted once again, the PC does not boot back up. The power-light is on, but my monitor says "no signal", as if the PC wouldn't really be turned on. This truly seems a like a power-related issue, doesn't it? UPDATE 2: I just got a freeze, but without BSOD. My screen froze (while on Chrome, which is starting to seem suspicious to me) with an ongoing sound/noise. I had to force-reboot my PC. I would say this is a graphics-card issue, but this issue also happened when I was using the Quadro 2000 from my provider. UPDATE 3: I just got a BSOD while trying to render something (quite heavy, actually) in 3ds Max 2012. I left the BSOD "running", as it said it was writing dump files to disk. However, the percentage number stayed at 0, so after 15 minutes I force-rebooted. I then used the software WhoCrashed (thank you Dave) which reported the following from the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file: On Thu 22.11.2012 22:13:45 GMT your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp uptime: 01:05:27 This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown () Bugcheck code: 0x124 (0x0, 0xFFFFFA80275AC028, 0xF200001F, 0x100B2) Error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA). This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue. A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: Unknown . Google query: Unknown WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
