  • IIS 6 Private Key certificate access

    Hi, We have a Web asp.net application running in the framework 2.0 and hosted in an IIS 6 server, and the OS is windows server 2003. The web application is suing a client certificate to be authenticated by a web service. We have impersonalized the application pool with de user “Network Service”. The problem is when we have to access to the private key of the certificate that is stored in the machine key/my storage. The user Network Service cannot access the key. We have given privileges to the Network Service user using the winhttpcertcfg.exe tool, however the result is the same. When we impersonalize the application pool with the local administrator the result is successfully. Therefore we think that the problem is the privileges of the user. If someone could give us some information about, we would be gratefully. Thanks in advance

  • bundle install fails with SSL certificate verification error

    When I run bundle install for my Rails 3 project on Centos 5.5 it fails with an error: Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError: SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server certificate B: certificate verify failed (https://bb-m.rubygems.org/gems/multi_json-1.3.2.gem) An error occured while installing multi_json (1.3.2), and Bundler cannot continue. Make sure that `gem install multi_json -v '1.3.2'` succeeds before bundling. When I try to install the gem manually (by gem install multi_json -v '1.3.2') it works. The same problem occurs with several other gems. I use RVM (1.12.3), ruby 1.9.2, bundler 1.1.3. How to fix it?

    How do I sign an APK with more than one certificate, so that I can do this when I publish to the Android Market: Version 1.0 = Signed with Certificate A Version 2.0 = Signed with Certificate A & B Version 3.0 = Signed with Certificate B The Android Market does give me some hope but I am not sure what to make of it, when I upload with a different sign certificate it gives me this message: "The apk must be signed with at least one certificate in common with the previous version." Motive: I have published an app on the market using the Android Signing Tool as part of MotoDev Studio for android. The problem is that it handles the keys itself and there is no way (documented) to get them. I want to change it to use a keystore and certificate that I have more control of and can use even if I don't use MotoDev Studio anymore. Also it seems that MotoDev Studio will lock you out of new features such as shared libraries.

  • MVC 2 jQuery Client-side Validation

    Well, I watched Phil Haack’s show What's New in Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 and was impressed about the client-side validation (starts at 17:45) that MVC 2 offers. I tried creating the same, but Phil does not show what .js files need to be included and also I was not able to find the source code for the application that he used. In order to find out the required JavaScript file references, I added all of the files in my application to the page and ran it. Of course it worked, but this is definitely not an optimum solution. By removing one at a time and testing the app, I’ve short-listed the following ones: 1: <script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script 2: <script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.js" type="text/javascript"></script> 3: <script src="../../Scripts/MicrosoftMvcValidation.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Now, a little about the feature itself. But what would happen if you add the line (along with the above mentioned .js files): 1: <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> Now, this acts as ‘on-the-fly’ or ‘real-time’ validation. Now, when the user types 20 characters for the Title, the error shows up right on the 21st character. Beautiful… and you do not have to create the JavaScript function(s) for this. They’re auto-magically created for you. (Doing a ‘View Source’ on the browser page shows you the JavaScript logic that goes on behind the scenes). I bumped into another post that shows how .net 4 allows us to create custom validation attributes: Dynamic Range validation in MVC 2. This will help us attach virtually any business logic to the model itself. Please see the source code I’ve worked with.

Oh yeah.. essential information that I’ve needed from time to time when I was not using Visual Studio. All of this info has come in handy from time to time. Know about these things and keep them in your tool belt, it’s amazing the stuff you can accomplish with just knowing where to look. What Why SPServices Widely used library written by Marc Anderson used to call SharePoint Web Services with jQuery jQuery For SPServices and other cool stuff Easy Tabs Essential tool for quick page enhancements. This widely used too from Christophe Humbert groups multiple web parts into one tabbed display. Very quick and easy way to get oohs and ahs from End Users. Convert Calculated Columns to HTML Also from Christophe, I use this script all the time to convert html in my calculated columns to actually display as html and not with the tags. Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags This blog series from Marc Anderson makes it very easy to understand what’s going on with all those weird xsl tags in your data view web parts. Essential to make those things do what you want them to do. Creating Parent / Child list relationships (2007) Creating Parent / Child list relationships (2010) By far my most viewed blog posts (tens and tens of thousands).  I have posts for both 2007 and 2010 that walk you through automatically setting the lookup id on a list to its “parent”. Set SharePoint Form fields using Query String Variables Also widely read, this one walks you through taking a variable from your Query String and set a form field to that value.   Hmmm… I KNOW there are more, but I’m tired and drawing a blank.  I’ll try to add them when I remember them (or need them again and think “Oh, I forgot to add that one”) But it’s a start, and please feel free to add your own in the comments… So, it’s YOUR turn to be helpful.   • Silverlight 4 Twitter Client &ndash; Part 7

    Download this article as a PDF Welcome back :) This week we are going to look at something more exciting and a much required feature for any twitter client – auto refresh so as to show new status updates. We are going to achieve this using Silverlight 4 Timers and a bit and refresh our datagrid every 2 minutes to show new updates. We will do this so that we do only minimal request to the twitter api, so that twitter does not block us – there is a limit of 150 request an hour. Let us get started now. Also we will get the profile user id hyperlinked, so that when ever the user click on it, we will take them to their twitter page. Also it was a pain to always run this application by pressing F5, then it would open in a browser you would have to right click uninstall and install it again to see any changes. All this and yet we were not able to debug it :( Now there is a solution for this to run a silverlight application directly out of browser and yet have the debug feature. Super cool, here is how. Right on the Silverlight project and go to debug and then select the Out-Of-Browser application option and choose the *.Web project. Then just right click on the SL project and set as Startup Project. There you go, now every time you press F5, it will automatically run out of browser and still have the debug options. I go to know about this after some binging. Now let us jump to the core straight away. 1) To get the user id hyperlinked, we need to have a DataGridTemplateColumn and within that have a HyperLinkButton. The code for this will  be <data:DataGridTemplateColumn> <data:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <HyperlinkButton Click="HyperlinkButton_Click" Content="{Binding UserName}" TargetName="_blank" ></HyperlinkButton> </DataTemplate> </data:DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </data:DataGridTemplateColumn> 2) Now let us look at how we are getting this done by looking into HyperlinkButton_Click event handler. There we will dynamically set the NavigateUri to the twitter page. I tried to do this using some binding, eval like stuff as in ASP.NET, but no luck! private void HyperlinkButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HyperlinkButton hb = (HyperlinkButton)e.OriginalSource; hb.NavigateUri = new Uri("http://twitter.com/" + hb.Content.ToString(), UriKind.Absolute); } 3) Now we need to switch on our Timer right in the OnNavigated to event on our SL page. Like I will only rebind the friends timeline again if the data grid currently holds it and I’ll only rebind the respective list status again in the data grid, if already a list status is bound to the data grid. In the above timer code, its set to trigger the Each_Tick event handler every 1 minute (60 seconds). TimeSpan takes in (days, hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds). 4) Now we need to set the list name in the currentGrid variable when a list button is clicked. But if it is some list timeline that is bound in the datagrid, I then call the getListStatus method with the currentGrid string which will actually be holding the list name. 6) I wanted to make the hyperlinks inside the status message as hyperlinks and when the user clicks on it, we can then open that link. I tried using a convertor and using a regex to recognize a url and wrap it up with a href, but that is not gonna work in silverlight textblock :( Anyways that convertor code is in the zip file. 7) You can get the complete project files from here. 8) Please comment below for your doubts, suggestions, improvements.     We will create a few classes now to help us with storing and retrieving user credentials, so that we don't ask for it every time we want to speak with Twitter for getting some information. Now the class to sorting out the credentials. We will have this class as a static so as to ensure one instance of the same. This class is mainly going to include a getter setter for username and password, a method to check if the user if logged in and another one to log out the user. You can get the code here. Now let us create another class to facilitate easy retrieval from twitter xml format results for any queries we make. This basically involves just creating a getter setter for all the values that you would like to retrieve from the xml document returned. You can get the format of the xml document from here. Here you utilize the navigate to method of NavigationService to goto a different page if the user is already logged in. if (GlobalVariable.isLoggedin())         this.NavigationService.Navigate(new Uri("/Home", UriKind.Relative));  On the submit button click event, add the new event handler, which would save the perform the WebClient request and download the results as xml string. WebRequest.RegisterPrefix("https://", System.Net.Browser.WebRequestCreator.ClientHttp);  The following line allows us to create a web client to create a web request to a url and get back the string response. Something that came as a great news with SL 4 for many SL developers.   WebClient myService = new WebClient(); myService.AllowReadStreamBuffering = true; myService.UseDefaultCredentials = false; myService.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(TwitterUsername.Text, TwitterPassword.Password);  Here in the following line, we add an event that has to be fired once the xml string has been downloaded. Here you can do all your XLINQ stuff.   myService.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(TimelineRequestCompleted);   myService.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri("https://twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline.xml"));  Now let us look at implementing the TimelineRequestCompleted event. Here we are not actually using the string response we get from twitter, I just use it to ensure the user is authenticated successfully and then save the credentials and redirect to home page. public void TimelineRequestCompleted(object sender, System.Net.DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { if (e.Error != null) { MessageBox.Show("This application must be installed first"); }  If there is no error, we can save the credentials to reuse it later.   else { GlobalVariable.saveCredentials(TwitterUsername.Text, TwitterPassword.Password); this.NavigationService.Navigate(new System.Uri("/Home", UriKind.Relative)); } } Ok so now login page is done. Now the main thing – running this application. This credentials stuff would only work, if the application is run out of the browser. So we need fiddle with a few Silverlioght project settings to enable this. Here is how:    Right click on Silverlight > properties then check the "Enable running application out of browser".    Then click on Out-Of-Browser settings and check "Require elevated trust…" option. That's it, all done to run. Now press F5 to run the application, fix the errors if any. Then once the application opens up in browser with the login page, right click and choose install.  Once you install, it would automatically run and you can login and can see that you are redirected to the Home page. Here are the files that are related to this posts. We will look at implementing the Home page, etc… in the next post.     I'm trying to set up a server using PXE and following this (clickable) instruction. But I have a problem in part Creating your NFS installation Right here: Copy kernel and initrd to tftp root. Run these commands ON THE SERVER sudo cp ~/vmlinuz-`uname -r` /tftpboot/ sudo cp ~/initrd.img-`uname -r` /tftpboot/ Actually, I don't know which kernel (server's or client's) should be copied. There isn't any files like those in my home folder on server. Can anybody tell me how to fix it?

I want to use node.js as the server, and I only need to be able to render images in a canvas, play some sounds, and do some basic animations. The gameloop should be done in the server, and the client should do callback via sockets to render the canvas. I am not going to spend any money on the engine, and I don't want to use cocos2d-javascript.

  • OpenSSL force client to use specific protocol

    When subversion attempts to connect to an https URL, the underlying protocol library (openssl) attempts to start the secure protocol negotiation at the most basic level, plain SSL. Unfortunately, I have to connect to a server that requires SSL3 or TLS1, and refuses to respond to SSL or SSL2. I’ve done some troubleshooting using s_client and confirmed that if I let s_client start with the default protocol the server never responds to the CLIENT HELLO: $ openssl s_client -connect server.domain.com:443 CONNECTED(00000003) write:errno=104 --- no peer certificate available --- No client certificate CA names sent --- SSL handshake has read 0 bytes and written 320 bytes --- New, (NONE), Cipher is (NONE) Secure Renegotiation IS NOT supported Compression: NONE Expansion: NONE --- Watching this in Wireshark I see: Client Server -------syn----------> <------ack----------- ---CLIENT HELLO-----> <------ack----------- [60 second pause] <------rst----------- If I tell s_client to use ssl2 the server immediately closes the connection. Only ssl3 and tls1 work. Is there any way to configure openssl to skip SSL and SSL2, and start the negotiation with TLS or SSL3? I've found the OpenSSL config file, but that seems to control only certificate generation.

    I have nginx server with the SSL. I'm trying to submit ssl sertificate. After I restart nginx I'm getting error: SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file(".../example.com.key") failed (SSL: error:0B080074:x509 certificate routines:X509_check_private_key:key values mismatch) I found some solution here: http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/configuring_https_servers.html#chains but i'm not using of any bundles, Any ideas on what is the issue ?   • Remote Web in SBS 2011 Essentials (SSL Issue)

    I am having an issue setting up Remote Web in SBS 2011 Essentials. Everything works except Remote Desktop, which keeps giving me SSL cert errors. Is there a way to override the TS Gateway's decision to not allow cert errors? If not, the specific error I am getting is that Remote Desktop is trying to connect using the DNS short name of our domain controller, but the certificate uses the FQDN, and as such, it reports an error and the connection never happens. Any ideas?

    Hi Since a few days when I start Windows Vista i get a Popup from "Encrypting File System" (coming from process efsui.exe) asking me to backup the certificate and key. I don't know what i did to get this message (The last SW i did install was google desktop). Now i'm wondering what directories or file are encrypted with EFS. Is there a way to found out?     Im using Microsoft SBS 2011 esentials to allow some of my users to remote into there work machines when they try they get and error that says that the rd gateway can not be trusted I looked up the error on google and confirmed that i need to install the ssl cert on the local machine but the instructions given are for sbs 2011 standard (website here ) but the path given is not in sbs essentials so where can i find the " Install Certificate Package.zip " file in essentials?

  • Pros and Cons of Creating an Internal Cerificate Authority

    What are the pros and cons of spinning up an internal certificate authority (primarily Windows 2003 CA)? We have the need to encypt server-server traffic on a project that has 20+ certificates. We could buy certs from Verisign, but I was thinking that an internal CA might be a better long term solution. So I was looking to the community to provide a pros/cons list of what we might gain (or lose) by hosting our own CA? Thanks in advance for the help.

  • where does https on apache get it's configuration?

    So originally my host (mediatemple dv) has two default directories for the roots: 1)httpdocs/ 2)httpsdocs/ In the conf directory I changed the vhosts.conf and httpd.include and others to change from httpdocs to custom folders. Now I installed a new ssl certificate and https://example.com goes to the default page located at httpsdocs. I'm just wondering where configurations for apache are stored for ssl. Ideas?

  • Secure email crashes Outlook 2007

    I have a number of secure emails sent to my Outlook 2007 client. Most arrive fine and display the prompt with regards to granting access to the certificate and then open. Today I received two that crash Outlook whenever I try to open them. I've tried restarting Outlook and my computer but still have the same problem. Any ideas what might be causing this, and how I can fix it? I'm working on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

  • RapidSSL not trusted using the check on "why no padlock"

    On http://www.whynopadlock.com/check.php whilst testing the following url https://www.bobclubs.com/pay I get the following message:- ERROR: cannot verify www.bobclubs.com's certificate, issued by `/C=US/O=GeoTrust, Inc./CN=RapidSSL CA': Unable to locally verify the issuer's authority. I am not 100 sure why this is as all issuer is OK, all items are secure and I get a padlock on all browsers. Can any one shed some light on this?
