• Need to have an aspx page with a Feature in SharePoint 2010

  I have added a custom button to the server ribbon in SharePoint (I have used a feature with Farm scope, so that the button is visible throughout the various site collections). However when I install the feature and click the button, I get an error saying "Cannot load CustomPage". I understand that I haven't deployed the assembly, but shouldn't the aspx page be compiled Just In Time?

• Coldfusion returning typed objects / AMF remoting

  Is the same possible in ColdFusion? Currently I am using .Net/Fluorine to return objects to the client. Whilst in testing I like to pass strings representing the select statement and the custom object I wish to have returned from my service. Fluorine has a class ASObject to which you can set the var 'typeName'; which works great. I am hoping that this is possible in Coldfusion. Does anyone know whether you can set the type of the returned object in a similar way. Concerns: * My goal is to pull up to 100 items at a time and send them as a batch to the next step. * If I use a ConcurrentQueue, I have to manually cause it to go asleep when there is no work to be done.   Hi all I know that generics are used to achieve type safety and i frequently read that they are largely used in custom collections. But why actually do we need to have it generic? For example, Why cant i use string[] instead of List<string> Lets consider i declare generic class and it has a property X T x; If i provide a method for the class which does x = x + 1; what does it mean actually? I dono what T is actually going to be and i dono what x = x + 1 going to perform actually? If i'm not able to do my own manipulations in my methods how the generics are going to be help me anyway?   I have found the place near the very top in a T4MVC template file (.tt) where assembly references can be added, which looks like: <#@ assembly name="System.Core" #> <#@ import namespace="System.Collections.Generic" #> However, it seems that I can only reference assemblies that are in the GAC. i.e. if I have an assembly MyProject.Stuff.dll (not in the GAC) added as a reference to the VS project containing the template then I expected to be able to add something like the following: <#@ assembly name="MyProject.Stuff" #> <#@ import namespace="MyProject.Stuff" #> If I do this then I get the following error: Error 1 Compiling transformation: Metadata file 'MyProject.Stuff' could not be found C:\Work\Development\DotNetSolution\MyProject\Utils\T4MVC\T4MVC.tt 1 1 How can I add a reference to an assembly that isn't in the GAC?

  I'm learning WPF with MVVM and for a starter, I viewed Jason Dolinger's video on MVVM . In that he mentioned, that one of the advantage of using MVVM with WPF is two-way data binding. My question is what does he mean by two-way data binding? Is that the feature of ability to 1) bind data from controls(View) to properties in VM and 2) any change in collections or properties are reflected in the view? If I'm wrong, can anyone please explain me in detail what it is and what are its advantages? This might be a very simple doubt, but I'm very new to WPF and it's terminologies and moving away from WinForms now.

  I've got a (SQL Server) database table called Category. And another database table called SubCategory. SubCategory has a foreign key relationship to Category. Because of this, thanks to LINQ, each Cateogory has a property called SubCategories and LINQ is nice enough to return all the SubCategories associated with my Category when I grab it. If I want to sort the Categories alphabetically, I can just do: return db.Categories.OrderBy(c => c.Name); However, I have no idea how to order the SubCategories collection inside each Category. My goal is to return a collection of Categories, where all of the SubCategory collections inside of them are ordered alphabetically by Name.

  Please, help me to explain the following behavior: dynamic d = 1; ISet<dynamic> s = new HashSet<dynamic>(); s.Contains(d); The code compiles with no errors/warnings, but at the last line I get the following exception: Unhandled Exception: Microsoft.CSharp.RuntimeBinder.RuntimeBinderException: 'System.Collections.Generic.ISet<object>' does not contain a definition for 'Contains' at CallSite.Target(Closure , CallSite , ISet`1 , Object ) at System.Dynamic.UpdateDelegates.UpdateAndExecuteVoid2[T0,T1](CallSite site, T0 arg0, T1 arg1) at FormulaToSimulation.Program.Main(String[] args) in As far as I can tell, this is related to dynamic overload resolution, but the strange things are (1) If the type of s is HashSet<dynamic>, no exception occurs. (2) If I use a non-generic interface with a method accepting a dynamic argument, no exception occurs. Thus, it looks like this problem is related particularly with generic interfaces, but I could not find out what exactly causes the problem. Is it a bug in the compiler/typesystem, or legitimate behavior?

• Can you open an SPSite object while being within a different site collection?

  I'm working on creating a common navigation experience across two site collections in MOSS 2007. I've looked around for various solutions and haven't found anything that fits. Our navigation is dynamic and driven by a number of factors, including audience targeting. Most of what I've found relates to having static XML and that just won't work for our requirements. What I'm down to at the moment is just getting a navigation item from site collection A while in the context of site collection B. Are there reasons I shouldn't be able to just open a navigation item from site collection A and gets its audience? Certainly there could be permissions problems on my end, or code related issues, or things that are in my control. What I'm wondering is if there's something inherent to SharePoint that would not allow this. Something I don't have control over which would force me to travel a different path.

  Lets say I've got an object model, where I have many collections of the same type. For example something like class StockMarketData { List<SummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<SummaryData> MonthlySummary; } class SummaryData { DateTime DateTime {get; set;} double Value {get; set;} } Those lists will map onto database tables. If you actually use L2S to generate a model from the database you will get something like: class StockMarketData { List<WeeklySummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<MonthlySummaryData> MonthlySummary; } Even though WeeklySummaryData and MonthlySummaryData have the same shape. Is it possible for Linq to SQL to create tables from a database of summary data, but get each table to contain the same type (such as shown in the top example).

I was thinking about the book "Thinking in Java (4th Edition)"....Unfortunately, its deals with Java SE 5 and not the latest version. • How to dynamically modify NHibernate load queries at runtime? EventListeners? Interceptors?

  I need to modify the query used to load many-to-one references in my model. Specifically, I need to be able to further filter this data. Unfortunately, NH will not allow me to filter many-to-one relationships using the built in filtering system (?). I could just be doing something incorrect. Is there a hook where I can manually and dynamically modify the query used to load the data? Or an alternative to filters that will allow me to specify parameters? Background: I am working with a database that is using a form of revision control, with each entity having a natural ID PK, an EntityId, a RevisionValidTo and RevisionValidFrom field. There may be many rows using the same EntityId, which is the reference for other tables to join on, but the Revision ranges are mutually exclusive. Thus, the relationship is only many-to-one IIF the filter is applied. However, NH offers no way to specify a filter on many-to-one references (they do for collections...)

• Compressing a hex string in Ruby/Rails

  I'm using MongoDB as a backend for a Rails app I'm building. Mongo, by default, generates 24-character hexadecimal ids for its records to make sharding easier, so my URLs wind up looking like: example.com/companies/4b3fc1400de0690bf2000001/employees/4b3ea6e30de0691552000001 Which is not very pretty. I'd like to stick to the Rails url conventions, but also leave these ids as they are in the database. I think a happy compromise would be to compress these hex ids to shorter collections using more characters, so they'd look something like: example.com/companies/3ewqkvr5nj/employees/9srbsjlb2r Then in my controller I'd reverse the compression, get the original hex id and use that to look up the record. My question is, what's the best way to convert these ids back and forth? I'd of course want them to be as short as possible, but also url-safe and simple to convert. Thanks!

• Why am I getting "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" when not modifying

  I have two collections of strings: CollectionA is a StringCollection property of an object stored in the system, while CollectionB is a List generated at runtime. CollectionA needs to be updated to match CollectionB if there are any differences. So I devised what I expected to be a simple LINQ method to perform the removal. var strDifferences = CollectionA.Where(foo => !CollectionB.Contains(foo)); foreach (var strVar in strDifferences) { CollectionA.Remove(strVar); } But I am getting a "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" error on strDifferences... even though it is a separate enumerable from the collection being modified! I originally devised this explicitly to evade this error, as my first implementation would produce it (as I was enumerating across CollectionA and just removing when !CollectionB.Contains(str)). Can anyone shed some insight into why this enumeration is failing?

This is the first time I've done something with other people in mind, so I'm really concerned about the quality of the architecture.   About fonts and colors in the VS2010 C# text editor with Resharper installed. In the following method: public void Method() { var lis = new System.Collections.ArrayList(); var exc = new System.NotImplementedException(); } ArrayList gets another color as NotImplementedException in the VS2010 text editor, because I edited the color scheme. What would be the difference in these kinds of types so that the color scheme handles them differently? Note that I have Resharper installed but I also tried almost all Resharper entries. I would like to have the ame color for both, but the color of the NotImplementedException type seems immutable.

  I am teaching a graduate level Python class at the University of Paris, and the students need to be introduced to the standard library. I want to discuss with them about some of the most important standard modules. What modules do you think are absolute musts? Even though responses probably vary depending on your field (web programming, science, etc.), I feel that some modules are commonly needed: math, sys, re, os, os.path, logging,… and maybe: collections, struct,… What modules would you suggest I present, in a 1 or 2 hour slot?
