  • MySQL Query GROUP_CONCAT Over Multiple Rows

    - by PeteGO
    I'm getting name and address data out of generic question / answer data to create some kind of normalised reporting database. The query I've got uses group_concat and works for individual sets of questions but not for multiple sets. I've tried to simplify what I'm doing by using just forename and surname and just 3 records, 2 for 1 person and 1 for another. In reality though there are more than 300,000 records. Example of results with qs.Id = 1. QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 1 Bob Jones Example of results with qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3). QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 3 Bob,Bob,Frank Jones,Jones,Smith What I would like to see for qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3). QuestionSetId Forename Surname ------------------------------------------------------- 1 Bob Jones 2 Bob Jones 3 Frank Smith So how can I make the 2nd example return a separate row for each set of name and address information? I realise the current way the data is stored is "questionable" but I cannot change the way the data is stored. I can get sets of individual answers but not sure how to combine the others. My simplified Schema that I cannot change: CREATE TABLE StaticQuestion ( Id INT NOT NULL, StaticText VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE Question ( Id INT NOT NULL, Text VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE StaticQuestionQuestionLink ( Id INT NOT NULL, StaticQuestionId INT NOT NULL, QuestionId INT NOT NULL, DateEffective DATETIME NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE Answer ( Id INT NOT NULL, Text VARCHAR(500) NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE QuestionSet ( Id INT NOT NULL, DateEffective DATETIME NOT NULL); CREATE TABLE QuestionAnswerLink ( Id INT NOT NULL, QuestionSetId INT NOT NULL, QuestionId INT NOT NULL, AnswerId INT NOT NULL, StaticQuestionId INT NOT NULL); Some example data for only forename and surname. INSERT INTO StaticQuestion (Id, StaticText) VALUES (1, 'FirstName'), (2, 'LastName'); INSERT INTO Question (Id, Text) VALUES (1, 'What is your first name?'), (2, 'What is your forename?'), (3, 'What is your Surname?'); INSERT INTO StaticQuestionQuestionLink (Id, StaticQuestionId, QuestionId, DateEffective) VALUES (1, 1, 1, '2001-01-01'), (2, 1, 2, '2008-08-08'), (3, 2, 3, '2001-01-01'); INSERT INTO Answer (Id, Text) VALUES (1, 'Bob'), (2, 'Jones'), (3, 'Bob'), (4, 'Jones'), (5, 'Frank'), (6, 'Smith'); INSERT INTO QuestionSet (Id, DateEffective) VALUES (1, '2002-03-25'), (2, '2009-05-05'), (3, '2009-08-06'); INSERT INTO QuestionAnswerLink (Id, QuestionSetId, QuestionId, AnswerId, StaticQuestionId) VALUES (1, 1, 1, 1, 1), (2, 1, 3, 2, 2), (3, 2, 2, 3, 1), (4, 2, 3, 4, 2), (5, 3, 2, 5, 1), (6, 3, 3, 6, 2); Just in case SQLFiddle is down here are the 3 queries from the examples I've linked to: 1: - working query but only on 1 set of data. SELECT MAX(QuestionSetId) AS QuestionSetId, GROUP_CONCAT(Forename) AS Forename, GROUP_CONCAT(Surname) AS Surname FROM (SELECT x.QuestionSetId, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 1 THEN Text END AS Forename, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 2 THEN Text END AS Surname FROM (SELECT (SELECT link.StaticQuestionId FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink link WHERE link.Id = qa.QuestionId AND link.DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective AND link.StaticQuestionId IN (1, 2) ORDER BY link.DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1) AS StaticQuestionId, a.Text, qa.QuestionSetId FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qa ON qs.Id = qa.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qa.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE qs.Id IN (1)) x) y 2: - working query but undesired results on multiple sets of data. SELECT MAX(QuestionSetId) AS QuestionSetId, GROUP_CONCAT(Forename) AS Forename, GROUP_CONCAT(Surname) AS Surname FROM (SELECT x.QuestionSetId, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 1 THEN Text END AS Forename, CASE x.StaticQuestionId WHEN 2 THEN Text END AS Surname FROM (SELECT (SELECT link.StaticQuestionId FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink link WHERE link.Id = qa.QuestionId AND link.DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective AND link.StaticQuestionId IN (1, 2) ORDER BY link.DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1) AS StaticQuestionId, a.Text, qa.QuestionSetId FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qa ON qs.Id = qa.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qa.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE qs.Id IN (1, 2, 3)) x) y 3: - working query on multiple sets of data only on 1 field (answer) though. SELECT qs.Id AS QuestionSet, a.Text AS Answer FROM QuestionSet qs INNER JOIN QuestionAnswerLink qalink ON qs.Id = qalink.QuestionSetId INNER JOIN StaticQuestionQuestionLink sqqlink ON qalink.QuestionId = sqqlink.QuestionId INNER JOIN Answer a ON qalink.AnswerId = a.Id WHERE sqqlink.StaticQuestionId = 1 /* FirstName */ AND sqqlink.DateEffective = (SELECT DateEffective FROM StaticQuestionQuestionLink WHERE StaticQuestionId = 1 AND DateEffective <= qs.DateEffective ORDER BY DateEffective DESC LIMIT 1)

  • Exporting to XML, including embedded classes

    - by Andy
    I have an object config which has some properties. I can export this ok, however, it also has an ArrayList which relates to embedded classes which I can't get to appear when I export to XML. Any pointers would be helpful. Export Method public String exportXML(config conf, String path) { String success = ""; try { FileOutputStream fstream = new FileOutputStream(path); try { XMLEncoder ostream = new XMLEncoder(fstream); try { ostream.writeObject(conf); ostream.flush(); } finally { ostream.close(); } } finally { fstream.close(); } } catch (Exception ex) { success = ex.getLocalizedMessage(); } return success; } Config Class (some detail stripped to keep size down) public class config { protected String author = ""; protected String website = ""; private ArrayList questions = new ArrayList(); public config(){ } public void addQuestion(String name) { questions.add(new question(questions.size(), name)); } public void removeQuestion(int id) { questions.remove(id); for (int c = 0; c <= questions.size(); c++) { question q = (question) (questions.get(id)); q.setId(c); } questions.trimToSize(); } public config.question getQuestion(int id){ return (question)questions.get(id); } /** * There can be multiple questions per config. * Questions store all the information regarding what questions are * asked of the user, including images, descriptions, and answers. */ public class question { protected int id; protected String title; protected ArrayList answers; public question(int id, String title) { this.id = id; this.title = title; } public int getId() { return id; } public void setId(int id) { this.id = id; } public void addAnswer(String name) { answers.add(new answer(answers.size(), name)); } public void removeAnswer(int id) { answers.remove(id); for (int c = 0; c <= answers.size(); c++) { answer a = (answer) (answers.get(id)); a.setId(c); } answers.trimToSize(); } public config.question.answer getAnswer(int id){ return (answer)answers.get(id); } public class answer { protected int id; protected String title; public answer(int id, String title) { this.id = id; this.title = title; } public int getId() { return id; } public void setId(int id) { this.id = id; } } } } Resultant XML File <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <java version="1.6.0_18" class="java.beans.XMLDecoder"> <object class="libConfig.config"> <void property="appName"> <string>xxx</string> </void> <void property="author"> <string>Andy</string> </void> <void property="website"> <string>www.example.com/dsx.xml</string> </void> </object> </java>

  • Slow queries in Rails- not sure if my indexes are being used.

    - by Max Williams
    I'm doing a quite complicated find with lots of includes, which rails is splitting into a sequence of discrete queries rather than do a single big join. The queries are really slow - my dataset isn't massive, with none of the tables having more than a few thousand records. I have indexed all of the fields which are examined in the queries but i'm worried that the indexes aren't helping for some reason: i installed a plugin called "query_reviewer" which looks at the queries used to build a page, and lists problems with them. This states that indexes AREN'T being used, and it features the results of calling 'explain' on the query, which lists various problems. Here's an example find call: Question.paginate(:all, {:page=>1, :include=>[:answers, :quizzes, :subject, {:taggings=>:tag}, {:gradings=>[:age_group, :difficulty]}], :conditions=>["((questions.subject_id = ?) or (questions.subject_id = ? and tags.name = ?))", "1", 19, "English"], :order=>"subjects.name, (gradings.difficulty_id is null), gradings.age_group_id, gradings.difficulty_id", :per_page=>30}) And here are the generated sql queries: SELECT DISTINCT `questions`.id FROM `questions` LEFT OUTER JOIN `taggings` ON `taggings`.taggable_id = `questions`.id AND `taggings`.taggable_type = 'Question' LEFT OUTER JOIN `tags` ON `tags`.id = `taggings`.tag_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `subjects` ON `subjects`.id = `questions`.subject_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `gradings` ON gradings.question_id = questions.id WHERE (((questions.subject_id = '1') or (questions.subject_id = 19 and tags.name = 'English'))) ORDER BY subjects.name, (gradings.difficulty_id is null), gradings.age_group_id, gradings.difficulty_id LIMIT 0, 30 SELECT `questions`.`id` AS t0_r0 <..etc...> FROM `questions` LEFT OUTER JOIN `answers` ON answers.question_id = questions.id LEFT OUTER JOIN `quiz_questions` ON (`questions`.`id` = `quiz_questions`.`question_id`) LEFT OUTER JOIN `quizzes` ON (`quizzes`.`id` = `quiz_questions`.`quiz_id`) LEFT OUTER JOIN `subjects` ON `subjects`.id = `questions`.subject_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `taggings` ON `taggings`.taggable_id = `questions`.id AND `taggings`.taggable_type = 'Question' LEFT OUTER JOIN `tags` ON `tags`.id = `taggings`.tag_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `gradings` ON gradings.question_id = questions.id LEFT OUTER JOIN `age_groups` ON `age_groups`.id = `gradings`.age_group_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `difficulties` ON `difficulties`.id = `gradings`.difficulty_id WHERE (((questions.subject_id = '1') or (questions.subject_id = 19 and tags.name = 'English'))) AND `questions`.id IN (602, 634, 666, 698, 730, 762, 613, 645, 677, 709, 741, 592, 624, 656, 688, 720, 752, 603, 635, 667, 699, 731, 763, 614, 646, 678, 710, 742, 593, 625) ORDER BY subjects.name, (gradings.difficulty_id is null), gradings.age_group_id, gradings.difficulty_id SELECT count(DISTINCT `questions`.id) AS count_all FROM `questions` LEFT OUTER JOIN `answers` ON answers.question_id = questions.id LEFT OUTER JOIN `quiz_questions` ON (`questions`.`id` = `quiz_questions`.`question_id`) LEFT OUTER JOIN `quizzes` ON (`quizzes`.`id` = `quiz_questions`.`quiz_id`) LEFT OUTER JOIN `subjects` ON `subjects`.id = `questions`.subject_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `taggings` ON `taggings`.taggable_id = `questions`.id AND `taggings`.taggable_type = 'Question' LEFT OUTER JOIN `tags` ON `tags`.id = `taggings`.tag_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `gradings` ON gradings.question_id = questions.id LEFT OUTER JOIN `age_groups` ON `age_groups`.id = `gradings`.age_group_id LEFT OUTER JOIN `difficulties` ON `difficulties`.id = `gradings`.difficulty_id WHERE (((questions.subject_id = '1') or (questions.subject_id = 19 and tags.name = 'English'))) Actually, looking at these all nicely formatted here, there's a crazy amount of joining going on here. This can't be optimal surely. Anyway, it looks like i have two questions. 1) I have an index on each of the ids and foreign key fields referred to here. The second of the above queries is the slowest, and calling explain on it (doing it directly in mysql) gives me the following: +----+-------------+----------------+--------+---------------------------------------------------------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------+---------+------------------------------------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+----------------+--------+---------------------------------------------------------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------+---------+------------------------------------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | questions | range | PRIMARY,index_questions_on_subject_id | PRIMARY | 4 | NULL | 30 | Using where; Using temporary; Using filesort | | 1 | SIMPLE | answers | ref | index_answers_on_question_id | index_answers_on_question_id | 5 | millionaire_development.questions.id | 2 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | quiz_questions | ref | index_quiz_questions_on_question_id | index_quiz_questions_on_question_id | 5 | millionaire_development.questions.id | 1 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | quizzes | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | millionaire_development.quiz_questions.quiz_id | 1 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | subjects | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | millionaire_development.questions.subject_id | 1 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | taggings | ref | index_taggings_on_taggable_id_and_taggable_type,index_taggings_on_taggable_type | index_taggings_on_taggable_id_and_taggable_type | 263 | millionaire_development.questions.id,const | 1 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | tags | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | millionaire_development.taggings.tag_id | 1 | Using where | | 1 | SIMPLE | gradings | ref | index_gradings_on_question_id | index_gradings_on_question_id | 5 | millionaire_development.questions.id | 2 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | age_groups | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | millionaire_development.gradings.age_group_id | 1 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | difficulties | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | millionaire_development.gradings.difficulty_id | 1 | | +----+-------------+----------------+--------+---------------------------------------------------------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------+---------+------------------------------------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ The query_reviewer plugin has this to say about it - it lists several problems: Table questions: Using temporary table, Long key length (263), Using filesort MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. To resolve the query, MySQL needs to create a temporary table to hold the result. The key used for the index was rather long, potentially affecting indices in memory 2) It looks like rails isn't splitting this find up in a very optimal way. Is it, do you think? Am i better off doing several find queries manually rather than one big combined one? Grateful for any advice, max

  • Why isn't this javascript with else if working?

    - by Uni
    I'm sorry I can't be any more specific - I have no idea where the problem is. I'm a total beginner, and I've added everything I know to add to the coding, but nothing happens when I push the button. I don't know at this point if it's an error in the coding, or a syntax error that makes it not work. Basically I am trying to get this function "Rip It" to go through the list of Dewey decimal numbers, change some of them, and return the new number and a message saying it's been changed. There is also one labeled "no number" that has to return an error (not necessarily an alert box, a message in the same space is okay.) I am a total beginner and not particularly good at this stuff, so please be gentle! Many thanks! <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function RipIt() { for (var i = l; i <=10 i=i+l) { var dewey=document.getElementById(i); dewey=parseFloat(dewey); if (dewey >= 100 && 200 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'+ 100) } else if (dewey >= 400 && 500 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'+ 200) } else if (dewey >= 850 && 900 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'-100) } else if (dewey >= 600 && 650 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'+17) } } } </script> </head> <body> <h4>Records to Change</h4> <ul id="myList"> <li id ="1">101.33</li> <li id = "2">600.01</li> <li id = "3">001.11</li> <li id = "4">050.02</li> <li id = "5">199.52</li> <li id = "6">400.27</li> <li id = "7">401.73</li> <li id = "8">404.98</li> <li id = "9">no number</li> <li id = "10">850.68</li> <li id = "11">853.88</li> <li id = "12">407.8</li> <li id = "13">878.22</li> <li id = "14">175.93</li> <li id = "15">175.9</li> <li id = "16">176.11</li> <li id = "17">190.97</li> <li id = "18">90.01</li> <li id = "19">191.001</li> <li id = "20">600.95</li> <li id = "21">602.81</li> <li id = "22">604.14</li> <li id = "23">701.31</li> <li id = "24">606.44</li> <li id = "25">141.77</li> </ul> <b> </b> <input type="button" value="Click To Run" onclick="RipIt()"> <!-- <input type="button" value="Click Here" onClick="showAlert();"> --> </body> </html>

  • jQuery , Trigger change event on newly created elements

    - by kwhohasamullet
    Hi Guys, I have a button in a form that when clicked adds another set of form fields, In these form fields there are 2 drop downs where the contents of the 2nd dropdown rely on what is selected in the first dropdown... What i want to do is when the new form field button is clicked for the new items to be added and then the change event to be triggered on the drop down that was created so what only that drop down changes and not all the drop downs with the same name currently in that form. THe first drop down is called product Category The code for the addFormField function is: function addFormField() { var id = document.getElementById("field_id").value; $("#products").append("<table width='600' cellpadding='5' cellspacing='0' class='Add_Products' id='row" + id + "'><td width='250' class='left'><label>Select Product Category</label></td><td class='right' ><label><select name='" + id + "' id='ProductCategory'><?php foreach($categories as $key=>$category){ echo "<option value=".$key.">".$category."</option>"; } ?></select></label></td></tr><tr><td width='250' class='left'><label>Select Product Template</label></td><td class='right' ><label><select name='data[QuoteItem][" + id + "][product_id]' id='QuoteItem" + id + "product_id' class='Product' title='" + id + "'></select></label></td></tr><tr ><td class='left'>Name</td><td class='right'><label><input name='data[QuoteItem][" + id + "][name]' type='text' id='QuoteItem" + id + "name' size='50' /></label></td></tr><tr ><td class='left'>Price (ex GST)</td><td class='right'><input type='text' name='data[QuoteItem][" + id + "][price]' id='QuoteItem" + id + "price' onchange='totalProductPrice();' class='quote-item-price' value='0' /></td></tr><tr><td class='left'>Description</td><td class='right'><label><textarea name='data[QuoteItem][" + id + "][description]' cols='38' rows='5' id='QuoteItem" + id + "description'></textarea></label></td></tr><tr><td><a href='#' onClick='removeFormField(\"#row" + id + "\"); return false;'>Remove</a></td></tr></table>"); $('#row' + id).highlightFade({ speed:1000 }); id = (id - 1) + 2; document.getElementById("field_id").value = id; } The code that detects change in ProductCategory dropdown and triggers the AJAX is below: $("select#ProductCategory").live('change', function(){ var url = base + "/quotes/productList/" + $(this).val() + ""; var id = $(this).attr('name'); $.getJSON(url,{id: $(this).val(), ajax: 'true'}, function(j){ var options = ''; options += '<option value="0">None</option>'; $.each(j, function(key, value){ options += '<option value="' + key + '">' + value + '</option>'; }) $("select#QuoteItem" + id + "product_id").html(options); }) }).trigger('change'); I have been trying all afternoon to work this out and the closest one i got to work applied the returned ajax values to all items. Currently using the live function people can add new fields and are able to use the drops down independant of each other dropdown but its only when the field is first added that i have trouble getting is populated Thanks in advance for any help

  • Mulitple full joins in Postgres is slow

    - by blast83
    I have a program to use the IMDB database and am having very slow performance on my query. It appears that it doesn't use my where condition until after it materializes everything. I looked around for hints to use but nothing seems to work. Here is my query: SELECT * FROM name as n1 FULL JOIN aka_name ON n1.id = aka_name.person_id FULL JOIN cast_info as t2 ON n1.id = t2.person_id FULL JOIN person_info as t3 ON n1.id = t3.person_id FULL JOIN char_name as t4 ON t2.person_role_id = t4.id FULL JOIN role_type as t5 ON t2.role_id = t5.id FULL JOIN title as t6 ON t2.movie_id = t6.id FULL JOIN aka_title as t7 ON t6.id = t7.movie_id FULL JOIN complete_cast as t8 ON t6.id = t8.movie_id FULL JOIN kind_type as t9 ON t6.kind_id = t9.id FULL JOIN movie_companies as t10 ON t6.id = t10.movie_id FULL JOIN movie_info as t11 ON t6.id = t11.movie_id FULL JOIN movie_info_idx as t19 ON t6.id = t19.movie_id FULL JOIN movie_keyword as t12 ON t6.id = t12.movie_id FULL JOIN movie_link as t13 ON t6.id = t13.linked_movie_id FULL JOIN link_type as t14 ON t13.link_type_id = t14.id FULL JOIN keyword as t15 ON t12.keyword_id = t15.id FULL JOIN company_name as t16 ON t10.company_id = t16.id FULL JOIN company_type as t17 ON t10.company_type_id = t17.id FULL JOIN comp_cast_type as t18 ON t8.status_id = t18.id WHERE n1.id = 2003 Very table is related to each other on the join via foreign-key constraints and have indexes for all the mentioned columns.   • A Closer Look at the HiddenInput Attribute in MVC 2

    - by Steve Michelotti
    MVC 2 includes an attribute for model metadata called the HiddenInput attribute. The typical usage of the attribute looks like this (line #3 below): 1: public class PersonViewModel 2: { 3: [HiddenInput(DisplayValue = false)] 4: public int? Id { get; set; } 5: public string FirstName { get; set; } 6: public string LastName { get; set; } 7: } So if you displayed your PersonViewModel with Html.EditorForModel() or Html.EditorFor(m => m.Id), the framework would detect the [HiddenInput] attribute metadata and produce HTML like this: 1: <input id="Id" name="Id" type="hidden" value="21" /> This is pretty straight forward and allows an elegant way to keep the technical key for your model (e.g., a Primary Key from the database) in the HTML so that everything will be wired up correctly when the form is posted to the server and of course not displaying this value visually to the end user. However, when I was giving a recent presentation, a member of the audience asked me (quite reasonably), “When would you ever set DisplayValue equal to true when using a HiddenInput?” To which I responded, “Well, it’s an edge case. There are sometimes when…er…um…people might want to…um…display this value to the user.” It was quickly apparent to me (and I’m sure everyone else in the room) what a terrible answer this was. I realized I needed to have a much better answer here. First off, let’s look at what is produced if we change our view model to use “true” (which is equivalent to use specifying [HiddenInput] since “true” is the default) on line #3: 1: public class PersonViewModel 2: { 3: [HiddenInput(DisplayValue = true)] 4: public int? Id { get; set; } 5: public string FirstName { get; set; } 6: public string LastName { get; set; } 7: } Will produce the following HTML if rendered from Htm.EditorForModel() in your view: 1: <div class="editor-label"> 2: <label for="Id">Id</label> 3: </div> 4: <div class="editor-field"> 5: 21<input id="Id" name="Id" type="hidden" value="21" /> 6: <span class="field-validation-valid" id="Id_validationMessage"></span> 7: </div> The key is line #5. We get the text of “21” (which happened to be my DB Id in this instance) and also a hidden input element (again with “21”). So the question is, why would one want to use this? The best answer I’ve found is contained in this MVC 2 whitepaper: When a view lets users edit the ID of an object and it is necessary to display the value as well as to provide a hidden input element that contains the old ID so that it can be passed back to the controller. Well, that actually makes sense. Yes, it seems like something that would happen *rarely* but, for those instances, it would enable them easily. It’s effectively equivalent to doing this in your view: 1: <%: Html.LabelFor(m => m.Id) %> 2: <%: Model.Id %> 3: <%: Html.HiddenFor(m => m.Id) %> But it’s allowing you to specify it in metadata on your view model (and thereby take advantage of templated helpers like Html.EditorForModel() and Html.EditorFor()) rather than having to explicitly specifying everything in your view.

  • Composit widget - what is the preffered way?

    - by Aleksander Gralak
    I want to build reusable widget. It should be ordinal composite of standard elements. What is the best approach. Below is the code sample which I use currently, however there might be something more elegant. Furthermore the sample below runs perfectly in runtime, but visual editor in Eclipse is throwing exceptions (which is not a problem for me at this time). Is there any recommended way of creating composites? Should I use fragment? public class MyComposite extends LinearLayout { private ImageView m_a1; private ImageView m_a2; private ImageView m_w1; private ImageView m_w2; private ImageView m_w3; private ImageView m_w4; public CallBackSlider(final Context context) { this(context, null); } public CallBackSlider(final Context context, final AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); inflater.inflate(R.layout.my_composite, this, true); setupViewItems(); } private void setupViewItems() { m_a1 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.A1Img); m_w1 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.Wave1Img); m_w2 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.Wave2Img); m_w3 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.Wave3Img); m_w4 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.Wave4Img); m_a2 = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.A2Img); resetView(); } private void resetView() { m_w1.setAlpha(0); m_w2.setAlpha(0); m_w3.setAlpha(0); m_w4.setAlpha(0); } } Layout xml: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/MyComposite" ... > <ImageView android:id="@+id/A1Img" android:src="@drawable/a1" ... /> <ImageView android:id="@+id/Wave1Img" ... android:src="@drawable/wave1" /> <ImageView android:id="@+id/Wave2Img" ... android:src="@drawable/wave2" /> <ImageView android:id="@+id/Wave3Img" ... android:src="@drawable/wave3" /> <ImageView android:id="@+id/Wave4Img" ... android:src="@drawable/wave4" /> <ImageView android:id="@+id/EarImg" ... android:src="@drawable/a2" /> </LinearLayout> Then you can use it in other layouts like this: ... <your.package.MyComposite android:id="@+id/mc1" ... /> ... And use from java code as well as instance of MyComposite class.

    I try to show a list of offers. When an advertiser insert a large title, the margin of an item (offer) will be showed what shouldn't. I've tried different layouts but that doesn't work. • Is it possible to parse a URL into it's composite components?

    - by Paul Alexander
    I'd like to parse an incoming URL into it's component parts for some pre-processing before passing it into the standard MVC routing logic. For example given your standard route {controller}/{action}/{id} and the URL /user/show/10 Is there a way to have the Routing system return a dictionary containing controller, action and id keys with their corresponding values?

If I run the following code: @shows = Show.find(:all, :order => "date") I get the following results: [#<Show id: 7, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 2>, #<Show id: 1, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 78>, #<Show id: 2, date: "2009-04-19", attending: 91>, #<Show id: 3, date: "2009-04-20", attending: 16>, #<Show id: 4, date: "2009-04-21", attending: 136>] If I run the following code: @shows = Show.find(:all, :order => "attending DESC") [#<Show id: 4, date: "2009-04-21", attending: 136>, #<Show id: 2, date: "2009-04-19", attending: 91>, #<Show id: 1, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 78>, #<Show id: 3, date: "2009-04-20", attending: 16>, #<Show id: 7, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 2>] But, if I run: @shows = Show.find(:all, :order => "date, attending DESC") OR @shows = Show.find(:all, :order => "date, attending ASC") OR @shows = Show.find(:all, :order => "date ASC, attending DESC") I get the same results as only sorting by date: [#<Show id: 7, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 2>, #<Show id: 1, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 78>, #<Show id: 2, date: "2009-04-19", attending: 91>, #<Show id: 3, date: "2009-04-20", attending: 16>, #<Show id: 4, date: "2009-04-21", attending: 136>] Where as, I want to get these results: [#<Show id: 1, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 78>, #<Show id: 7, date: "2009-04-18", attending: 2>, #<Show id: 2, date: "2009-04-19", attending: 91>, #<Show id: 3, date: "2009-04-20", attending: 16>, #<Show id: 4, date: "2009-04-21", attending: 136>] This is the query being generated from the logs: [4;35;1mUser Load (0.6ms)[0m [0mSELECT * FROM "users" WHERE ("users"."id" = 1) LIMIT 1[0m [4;36;1mShow Load (3.0ms)[0m [0;1mSELECT * FROM "shows" ORDER BY date ASC, attending DESC[0m [4;35;1mUser Load (0.6ms)[0m [0mSELECT * FROM "users" WHERE ("users"."id" = 1) [0m Finally, here is my model: create_table "shows", :force => true do |t| t.string "headliner" t.string "openers" t.string "venue" t.date "date" t.text "description" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.decimal "price" t.time "showtime" t.integer "attending", :default => 0 t.string "time" end What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? UPDATE: Thanks for all your help, but it seems that all of you were stumped as much as I was. What solved the problem was actually switching databases. I switched from the default sqlite3 to mysql.

  • JQuery not copying state dropdown list 1 to DDL2 on checkbox change

    - by user1001411
    I've looked at similar posts on the subject but none of the recommended solutions have worked for me so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. I have a billing and shipping address form with a dropdown list for the state. Upon checking/unchecking the "billing address same as shipping" everything copies over except the state dropdown list. The state dropdown list is populated from a SQLDataSource state table. Here's my code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('input:checkbox[id*=chkCopy]').change(function () { if ($(this).is(':checked')) { $('input:text[id*=TextBox5]').val($('input:text[id*=TextBox1]').val()); $('input:text[id*=TextBox7]').val($('input:text[id*=TextBox2]').val()); $('input:text[id*=TextBox9]').val($('input:text[id*=TextBox3]').val()); $('input:text[id*=TextBox12]').val($('input:text[id*=TextBox4]').val()); $('select#DropDownList6').val($("select#DropDownList1").val()); $('input:text[id*=TextBox14]').val($('input:text[id*=TextBox6]').val()); } else { $('input:text[id*=TextBox5]').val(''); $('input:text[id*=TextBox7]').val(''); $('input:text[id*=TextBox9]').val(''); $('input:text[id*=TextBox12]').val(''); $('select#DropDownList6').val(''); $('input:text[id*=TextBox14]').val(''); } }); }); and here is my SQL for the DDL: <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server" DataTextField="Descr" DataValueField="ID" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" Width="254"> </asp:DropDownList> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ASPNETDBConnectionString1 %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [xrefState]"> </asp:SqlDataSource> the other one: <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList6" runat="server" DataTextField="Descr" DataValueField="ID" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource5" Width="254"> </asp:DropDownList> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource5" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ASPNETDBConnectionString1 %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [xrefState]"> </asp:SqlDataSource>

  • How do I use .htaccess conditional redirects for multiple domains?

    - by John
    I'm managing about 15 or so domains for a particular promotion. Each domain has specific redirects in place, as shown below. Rather than make 15 different .htaccess files that I would later have to manage separately, I'd like to use a single .htaccess file and use a symbolic link into each website's directory. The trouble is that, I can't figure out how to make the rules apply only for a specific domain. Every time I visit www.redirectsite2.com, it sends me to www.targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=75, when it should instead be sending me to www.targetsite.com/search.html?state=NJ&id=68. How exactly do I make multiple RewriteRules apply for a given domain and only that domain? Is this even possible to do within a single .htaccess file? Options +FollowSymlinks # redirectsite1.com RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / # start processing rules for www.redirectsite1.com RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.redirectsite1\.com$ # rule for organic visit first RewriteRule ^$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=75 [QSA,R,L] RewriteRule ^PGN$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=26 [QSA,R,NC,L] RewriteRule ^NS$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=27 [QSA,R,NC,L] RewriteRule ^INQ$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=28 [QSA,R,NC,L] RewriteRule ^AA$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=29 [QSA,R,NC,L] RewriteRule ^PI$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=30 [QSA,R,NC,L] RewriteRule ^GV$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=31 [QSA,R,NC,L] # catch-all rule, using the same id as the organic visit RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)?$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=PA&id=75 [QSA,R,NC,L] # end processing rules for www.redirectsite1.com # begin rules for redirectsite2.com RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^$ RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.redirectsite2\.com$ # rule for organic visit first RewriteRule ^$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=NJ&id=68 [QSA,R,L] RewriteRule ^SL$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=NJ&id=6 [QSA,R,NC,L] RewriteRule ^APP$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=NJ&id=8 [QSA,R,NC,L] # catch-all rule, using the same id as the organic visit RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)?$ http://targetsite.com/search.html?state=NJ&id=68 [QSA,R,NC,L] Thanks for any help you may be able to provide!

  • How do I get the inserted id (or object) after an insert with the FormView/ObjectDataSource controls

    - by drs9222
    I have a series of classes that loosely fit the following pattern: public class CustomerInfo { public int Id {get; set;} public string Name {get; set;} } public class CustomerTable { public bool Insert(CustomerInfo info) { /*...*/ } public bool Update(CustomerInfo info) { /*...*/ } public CustomerInfo Get(int id) { /*...*/ } /*...*/ } After a successful insert the Insert method will set the Id property of the CustomerInfo object that was passed in. I've used these classes in several places and would prefer to altering them. Now I'm experimenting with writing an ASP.NET page for inserting and updating the records. I'm currently using the ObjectDataSource and FormView controls: <asp:ObjectDataSource TypeName="CustomerTable" DataObjectTypeName="CustomerInfo" InsertMethod="Insert" UpdateMethod="Update" SelectMethod="Get" /> I can successfully Insert and Update records. I would like to switch the FormView's mode from Insert to Edit after a successful insert. My first attempt was to switch the mode in the ItemInserted event. This of course did not work. I was using a QueryStringParameter for the id which of course wan't set when inserting. So, I switched to manually populating the InputParameters during the ObjectDataSource's Selecting event. The problem with this is I need to know the id of the newly inserted record which I can't find a good way to get. I understand that I can access the Insert method's return value, and out parameters in the ItemInserted event of course my method doesn't return the id using any of these methods. I can't find anyway to access the id or the CustomerInfo object that was inserted after the insert completes. The best I've been able to do is to save the CustomerInfo object in the ObjectDataSource's Inserting event. This feels like an odd way to do this. I figure that there must be a better way to do this and I'll kick myself when I see it. Any ideas?

  • How do I specify Open ID Realm in spring security ?

    - by Salvin Francis
    We are using Spring security in our application with support for username / password based authentication as well as Open id based authentication. The issue is that google gives a different open id for the return url specified and we have at least 2 different entry points in our application from where open id is configured into our system. Hence we decided to use open id realm. http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2009/0...ue-per-domain/ http://groups.google.com/group/googl...unts-api?pli=1 how is it possible to integrate realm into our spring configuration/code ? This is how we are doing it in traditional openid library code: AuthRequest authReq = consumerManager.authenticate(discovered, someReturnToUrl,"http://www.example.com"); This works and gives same open id for different urls from our site. our configuration: Code: ... <http auto-config="false"> <!-- <intercept-url> tags are here --> <remember-me user-service-ref="someRememberedService" key="some key" /> <form-login login-page="/Login.html" authentication-failure-url="/Login.html?error=true" always-use-default-target="false" default-target-url="/MainPage.html"/> <openid-login authentication-failure-url="/Login.html?error=true" always-use-default-target="true" default-target-url="/MainPage.html" user-service-ref="someOpenIdUserService"/> </http> ... <beans:bean id="someOpenIdUserService" class="com.something.MyOpenIDUserDetailsService"> </beans:bean> <beans:bean id="openIdAuthenticationProvider" class="com.something.MyOpenIDAuthenticationProvider"> <custom-authentication-provider /> <beans:property name="userDetailsService" ref="someOpenIdUserService"/> </beans:bean> ...

  • Merge the sub array if it has the save id value?

    - by sophie
    I have an array and I want to merge the sub array that have the same id value together: <?php $a = Array( Array ( "id" => 1, "id_categorie" => 1, "nb" => 18 ), Array ( "id" => 1, "id_categorie" => 8, "nb" => 14 ), Array ( "id" => 2, "id_categorie" => 10, "nb" => 15 ) ); $result = array(); foreach ($a as $k=>$v){ $result[$v['id']] =$v; } echo '<pre>'; print_r($result); echo '</pre>'; ?> I GOT: Array ( [1] => Array ( [id] => 1 [id_categorie] => 8 [nb] => 14 ) [2] => Array ( [id] => 2 [id_categorie] => 10 [nb] => 15 ) ) BUT WHAT I WANT IS : Array ( [1] => Array ( Array ( "id_categorie" => 1, "nb" => 18 ), Array ( "id_categorie" => 8, "nb" => 14 ) ) [2] => Array ( [id_categorie] => 10 [nb] => 15 ) ) Anyone could tell me how to do this? thanks

  • Is encrypting session id (or other authenticate value) in cookie useful at all?

    - by Ji
    In web development, when session state is enabled, a session id is stored in cookie(in cookieless mode, query string will be used instead). In asp.net, the session id is encrypted automatically. There are plenty of topics on the internet regarding how you should encrypt your cookie, including session id. I can understand why you want to encrypt private info such as DOB, but any private info should not be stored in cookie at first place. So for other cookie values such as session id, what is the purpose encryption? Does it add security at all? no matter how you secure it, it will be sent back to server for decryption. Be be more specific, For authentication purpose, turn off session, i don't want to deal with session time out any more store some sort of id value in the cookie, on the server side, check if the id value exists and matches, if it is, authenticate user. let the cookie value expire when browser session is ended, this way. vs Asp.net form authentication mechanism (it relies on session or session id, i think) does latter one offer better security?

  • Create a variable which is named depending on an ID number?

    - by gray
    Is there any way to create a variable, and add an ID to the end of the actual variable name? I have a variable called 'gauge', used to create a new Gauge object: var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); I want to add an ID to the variable, so something like: var gauge+id = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); It's because I'm creating a number of these objects, and have a specific ID already for each one, which I want to attach to the gauge object if possible? All my code for this function is below, if it gives you a better idea of what i need to do: function go(id, votes) { var val = $('#votes_'+id).text(); var target = document.getElementById('foo_'+id); // your canvas element var gauge = new Gauge(target).setOptions(opts); // create sexy gauge! gauge.maxValue = 100; // set max gauge value gauge.animationSpeed = 20; // set animation speed (32 is default value) var a=votes+0.5; gauge.set(val); // set actual value } My main problem arises on the last line. It says gauge.set(val), and it only sets the last object, ignoring all the other ones...

  • Need method to seek next/previous records id without cycling through all records.

    - by dqhendricks
    I am using MySQL and PHP. I have a MySQL blog post result set with id fields, and publish_date fields. I display one blog post per page, and the script knows which blog post to display based on $_GET['id'], which correlates to each blog entry's id field. I would like to reference them by id in the url, because I would like each blog post to have a perminant url. I would like to order the blog posts by publish date (descending). Now, on each page there will be next and previous links, which contain the $_GET['id'] value for the next and previous blog posts. How can I figure out what the id of the next and previous blog posts (determined by it's publish_date order) without cycling through each mysql result row? I can't mysql_data_seek(), because I do not know the row index of the current blog post id. I do not want to store a row index in a GET variable because the urls would no longer be perminant. I obviously cannot store the row index in a SESSION variable because then direct links to specific blog posts would have broken next and previous links. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • What are the javascript performance tradeoffs in adding id's to dom elements?

    - by Blinky
    For example, I have a website which has a dynamically-generated segment of its dom which looks roughly like this: <div id="master"> <div class="child"> ... </div> <div class="child"> ... </div> <div class="child"> ... </div> ... <div class="child"> ... </div> </div> There might be hundreds of child elements in this manner, and they, too, might have yet more children. At present, none of them have id's except for the master. Javascript manipulates them via dom-walking. It's a little scary. I'd like to add id's, e.g.: <div id="master"> <div id="child1" class="child"> ... </div> <div id="child2" class="child"> ... </div> <div id="child3" class="child"> ... </div> ... <div id="childN" class="child"> ... </div> </div> What are the tradeoffs in adding id's to these divs? Certainly, jQuery must maintain a hash of id's, so there's going to be some sort of performance hit. Any general guidelines in when adding additional id's is a bad idea? Is jQuery so awesome that, in practice, it doesn't matter?
