  • Stopping Backtracking

    - by John Retallack
Is there any way in C/C++ to stop a backtracking algorithm after finding the first solution without exiting the program. I want my function to immediately exit the function, not to quit every level of recurrsion one by one stating return.

  • recursive add binary numbers

    - by davit-datuashvili
i need following algorithm let say we have 5 //101 and 7 //111 numbers are arbitrary i need to add these numbers using the recursive method and at the same time using bitwise methods such that result should be 101 + 111 110 0 or 12 can anybody help me?

  • Matching between product and customer personal information

    - by Yanshof
I writing some application that find ( according to some question ) information about some person ( lets say that the information are weight, hight and age of the person ). In the other hand i have product list ( can be very big one ) and according to the product information i need to find the best matching between the person information and the product ( the product information that i have are water part, nitrogen part and ext. ) I can't use flow chart algorithm or Breadth-first search because the number of the product is dynamically ( read the product list from DB ... )

  • Fastest possible summing numbers up to N

    - by dada
Okay so i need really FAST algorithm or code in C if you have any it would be nice. The task is to sum all numbers from 1 to N for a given number N (it can be negative number too), so i did the usual way (you know just summing with loop from 1 to N) but it's not fast enough - i need something faster, i guess that i need the fastest possible way to do this. If anyone could help me, please do. Thanks.

  • How to Create Own HashMap in Java?

    - by Taranfx
I know about hashing algorithm and hashCode() to convert "key" into an equivalent integer (using some mathematically random expression) that is then compressed and stored into buckets. But can someone point me to an implementation or at least data structure that should be used as baseline? I haven't found it anywhere on the web.

  • How to calculate a measure of a total error in this clustering

    - by Vafello
    I have the following points and clustering of data S1. Can anyone tell me how to calculate the total error associated with this clustering? I know it's not a strictly programming question, but I need it for my algorithm. I think the answer should be 4/3 but I have no idea how to calculate this. Can anyone help me? x1= (2.0,1.0) x2= (2.0,2.0) x3= (1.0,2.0) S1={ x1, x2, x3 }

  • Sort by ranking algorithm using will-paginate

    - by bearwithclaws
I'm creating a digg-like site using Ruby on Rails that ranks the item (based on this algorithm). I'm using the will-paginate gem list the items in pages. The problem is, will-paginate only allows me to insert ':order =' based on the table data. I would like to make will-paginate to sort by a number which is calculated using a function based on different fields on the table (e.g number of votes, age hours). How can I do that?

  • Finding contained bordered regions from Excel imports.

    - by dmaruca
I am importing massive amounts of data from Excel that have various table layouts. I have good enough table detection routines and merge cell handling, but I am running into a problem when it comes to dealing with borders. Namely performance. The bordered regions in some of these files have meaning. Data Setup: I am importing directly from Office Open XML using VB6 and MSXML. The data is parsed from the XML into a dictionary of cell data. This wonks wonderfully and is just as fast as using docmd.transferspreadsheet in Access, but returns much better results. Each cell contains a pointer to a style element which contains a pointer to a border element that defines the visibility and weight of each border (this is how the data is structured inside OpenXML, also). Challenge: What I'm trying to do is find every region that is enclosed inside borders, and create a list of cells that are inside that region. What I have done: I initially created a BFS(breadth first search) fill routine to find these areas. This works wonderfully and fast for "normal" sized spreadsheets, but gets way too slow for imports into the thousands of rows. One problem is that a border in Excel could be stored in the cell you are checking or the opposing border in the adjacent cell. That's ok, I can consolidate that data on import to reduce the number of checks needed. One thing I thought about doing is to create a separate graph that outlines the cells using the borders as my edges and using a graph algorithm to find regions that way, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to implement the algorithm. I've used Dijkstra in the past and thought I could do similar with this. So I can span out using no endpoint to search the entire graph, and if I encounter a closed node I know that I just found an enclosed region, but how can I know if the route I've found is the optimal one? I guess I could flag that to run a separate check for the found closed node to the previous node ignoring that one edge. This could work, but wouldn't be much better performance wise on dense graphs. Can anyone else suggest a better method? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • CRC function without order dependency

    - by Pirks
I need a CRC mechanism to calculate the CRC of a number of strings, such that, given two strings, A and B, the sum crc(A) + crc(B) == crc(A+B). P.S. XOR is too weak---the algorithm should be not trivial for reverse engineering.

  • GA Framework for Virtual Machines

    - by PeanutPower
Does anyone know of any .NET genetic algorithm frameworks for evolving instructions sets in virtual machines to solve abstract problems? I would be particularly interested in a framework which allows virtual machines to self propagate within a pool and evolve against a fitness function determined by a data set with "good" outputs given expected inputs.

  • What is Chain Matrix Multiplication ?

    - by Hellnar
Hello, I am trying to understand what is a chain matrix multiplication and how it is different from a regular multiplication. I have checked several sourcers yet all seem to be very academically explained for me to understand. I guess it is a form of dynamic programming algorithm to achieve the operation in an optimised way but I didn't go any further. Thanks

  • Smallest sum of graph weight, where each node are connceted (like a network)

    - by Svisstack
Hello, What algorithm I can use for problem like this: Have a graph positive weighted, i want to know a smallest possible sum of weights where each node are connected (connected like a network, where each node is a eg. network device). In this network each node can be connected with other node by some other other nodes in way. But all nodes from input graph must be in a network. Any one can help me with this?

  • What is an efficient way to find a non-colliding rectangle nearest to a location

    - by hyn
For a 2D game I am working on, I am using y axis sorting in a simple rectangle-based collision detection. This is working fine, and now I want to find the nearest empty rectangle at a given location with a given size, efficiently. How can I do this? Is there an algorithm? I could think of a simple brute force grid test (with each grid the size of the empty space we're looking for) but obviously this is slow and not even a complete test.

  • All possible paths in a cyclic undirected graph

    - by Elias
I'm trying to develop an algorithm that identifies all possible paths between two nodes in a graph, as in this example. in fact, i just need to know which nodes appear in all existing paths. in the web only got references about DFS, A* or dijkstra, but i think they doesn't work in this case. Does anyone know how to solve it?

  • K-means algorithm variation with minimum measure of size

    - by user1464628
I'm looking for some algorithm such as k-means for grouping points on a map into a fixed number of groups, by distance. The number of groups has already been decided, but the trick part (at least for me) is to meet the criteria that the sum of MOS of each group should in the certain range, say bigger than 1. Is there any way to make that happen? ID MOS X Y 1 0.47 39.27846 -76.77101 2 0.43 39.22704 -76.70272 3 1.48 39.24719 -76.68485 4 0.15 39.25172 -76.69729 5 0.09 39.24341 -76.69884

  • Least common multiple for 3 or more numbers

    - by paan
How do you calculate the least common multiple of multiple numbers? So far I've only been able to calculate it between two numbers. But have no idea how to expand it to calculate 3 or more numbers. So far this is how I did it LCM = num1 * num2 / gcd ( num1 , num2 ) With gcd is the function to calculate the greatest common divisor for the numbers. Using euclidean algorithm But I can't figure out how to calculate it for 3 or more numbers.
