  • Cannot establish XMPP server-to-server connection with gmail

    My jabber-server fails to connect to gmail.com giving the error: outgoing s2s stream myserver.com.ua-bot.talk.google.com closed: undefined-condition (myserver.com.ua is a Google Apps Domain with Talk service enabled.) I am using the Prosody XMPP server. It works just fine with other jabber-servers I tested so far (e.g. jabber.ru). However, when some of my clients tries to add a gmail contact to his contact-list, the subscription request lasts forever, and the Prosody gives the following sequence of messages in its log: Oct 21 22:57:16 s2sout95897f8 info Beginning new connection attempt to gmail.com ([173.194.70.125]:5269) Oct 21 22:57:16 s2sout95897f8 info sent dialback key on outgoing s2s stream Oct 21 22:57:16 s2sout95897f8 info Session closed by remote with error: undefined-condition (myserver.com.ua is a Google Apps Domain with Talk service enabled.) As for the Google services, I did have a google account where I added the domain name under question to the Webmasters tools page. However, I deleted my account long ago, so now it is unclear, how any of the Google services can relate to my domain name. So my question is: What is the real cause of this problem (my jabber-server configuration or imaginary Google account or something else) and how can I make my Prosody server connect to gmail.com jabber service?

  • Gmail won't forward mail sent to myself.

    I own a dedicated server with a domain, we'll say foobar.com. I use google apps to manage my email SMTP servers. Now I don't check two gmail inboxes. I have my own personal one, and then I have foobar.com's inbox from google apps. Naturally the easiest thing to do is just have all foobar's emails forwarded to my personal one. So then I am only checking 1 inbox. This is all fine and dandy. I use MSMTP that with a wrapper that uses /etc/aliases. I have it set so any mail attempting to go to root (Things from cron, etc) will go to [email protected]. So when google app's (foobar.com) gets an email from the email I have setup with it ([email protected]), it automatically doesn't forward the message. This is a "feature" to gmail/google apps I suppose. How do I get around it? workarounds? etc. I could just have my alias set to my personal email but I wanted a place to have all foobar related emails archived in one place (googleapps).

  • Kde no sound from Phonon or most KDE apps but mplayer,skype and firefox are ok

    Can somebody tell me why I cannot get any sound with most of KDE 4? I'm running a Gentoo box, I'm in both the 'audio' and 'video' groups. I can get sound with mplayer ( but not smplayer ) Firefox and Skype but nothing else. I can't get the test sound to play from the settings window, but Phonon is not whining about broken sound cards when I start up. I have checked with kmix, we seem to be completely unmuted ( and I can get sound with some apps)

  • All office apps crash immediately on server 2008

    Hi, I have a brand new windows 2008 server (64 bit) with a brand new installation of Office 2007, fully patched with all windows updates etc. Every time I try to run any of the office apps it crashes immediately, even in safe mode. the only remotely useful information I get is: Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Data: 00000008 If I Run in compatibility mode for windows XP, everything is fine. Anyone ever seen this before? I've tried turning off DEP but that made no difference either Thanks Tim

    I'm hoping to harness the collective tips of superuser to gather recommended apps/configurations to keep a new desktop clean, virus free, and hopefully lower software rot. I ask because I've recently come across tools like dropbox, deepfreeze, returnil, etc, and I'm curious what other ones are out there to protect a new box. I personally am interested in Windows, but feel free to comment on whatever OS you'd like, freeware or otherwise. Ideally specify the price/OS in your answer(s).

    Hi, I was moving iPhone applications directory, and ended in a result that some applications are missing from Springboard. As far as I can see, the apps in /Applications/GUID-LIKE-DIRECTORIES are missing like Facebook; however I see they are in /Applications if I check with SSH. Any help?

    I downloaded garageband from mac app store but something happend with my internet connection - probably connection crashed - and downloading (or installing) stopped. When apps instalation didnt start, then I cklicked on install button at Mac AppStore. In Launchpad was created new icon of garageband which was downloaded again and internet connection crashed again.   • Alfred - Open group of files with specific apps

    I'm trying to create a way of opening a set of project files in multiple apps, using Alfred. I know about the File Group extension in the powerpack (I have this), but as far as I can see, there's a limitation in that it only opens the files with the default app. My usage case is this: Open a .html file with Chrome Open the same .html file with MacVim Anyone know a way around this? Maybe an applescript is more what I'd need?

  • Running Modern UI/Metro Apps as Administrator in Windows 8

    I noticed that on Windows 8's Start screen, I could right click a Windows legacy program (A program which runs on Windows XP, Vista and 7), and I could run it as Administrator. However, whenever I clicked on a Windows 8 Modern UI or a Metro app, I didn't have that option. So here are my questions:- Why can't I run the Modern UI apps as an Administrator? Does it make any difference as far as security is concerned?

    Please help!, Here is my situation: I've been doing business using my current gmail address ([email protected]) and really wanted my mail address to read [email protected], so i looked into google apps. It says you can set up custom emails with your domain name, achieving the above goal, but how do i configure these addresses to run through my CURRENT gmail account?   • How to enable a Web portal-based rich enterprise platform on different domains and hosts using JS without customization/ server configuration

    Our company Coscend has built a Web portal-based communications and cloud collaboration platform by using JavaScript (JS), which is embedded in HTML5 and formatted with CSS3. Other technologies used in the core code include Flash, Flex, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Our team would like to host this platform on five different Windows and Linux environments that run different types of Web servers such as IIS and Apache. Technical challenge: Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address), but we would like to keep our enterprise platform independent of host server configuration. Possible approach to solution: We think an API (interface module with a GUI) is needed to accomplish this level of modularity and flexibility while deploying at our enterprise customers. Seeking your insights: In this context, our team would appreciate your guidance on: Is there an algorithmic method to implement this Web portal-based platform in these Windows and Linux environments while separating it from server configuration, i.e., customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? For example, would it be suitable to create some JS variables / objects for host name and domain name and call them in the different implementations? If a reference to the host/domain names occurs on hundreds of portal modules, these variables or JS objects would replace that. If so, what is the best way to make these object modules written in JS portable and re-usable across different environments and instances for enterprise customers? Here is an example of the implemented code for the said platform. The following Web site (www.CoscendCommunications.com) was built using this enterprise collaboration platform and has the base code examples of the platform. This Web site is domain-specific.   • DWM and painting unresponsive apps

    In Vista and later, if an app becomes unresponsive, the Desktop Window Manager is able to handle redrawing it when necessary (move a window over it, drag it around, etc.) because it has kept a pixel buffer for it. Windows also tries to detect when an app has become unresponsive after some timeout, and tries to make the best of the situation -- I believe it dims out the window, adds "Not Responding" to its title bar, and perhaps some other effects. Now, we have a skinned app that uses window regions and layered windows, and it doesn't play well with these effects. We've been developing on XP, but have noticed a strange effect when testing on Vista. At some points the app may spend a few moments on some calculation or callback, and if it passes the unresponsive threshold (I've read that it's a five second timeout, but I cannot find a link), a strange graphical problem occurs: any pixels that would be 100% transparent due to the window regions turn black, which effectively makes the window rectangular again, with a black background. There seem to be other anomalies, with the original window's pixels being shifted a bit in some child dialogs. I am working on reducing such delays (ideally Windows will never need to step in like this), and trying to maintain responsiveness while it's busy, but I'd still like to figure out what is causing it to render like that, as I can't guarantee I can eliminate all delays. Basically, I just would like to know what Windows is doing when this happens, and how I can make my app behave properly with it. Skinned apps have to still work on Vista and later, so I need to figure out what I'm doing that's non-standard. I don't even know exactly how to look for information into how Windows now handles unresponsive apps, as my searches only return people having issues with apps that are unresponsive, or very rudimentary explanations of what the DWM does with such apps. Heck I'm not even 100% sure it's the DWM responsible, but it seems likely. Any potential leads?   • Google's Oauth for Installed apps vs. Oauth for Web Apps

    So I'm having trouble understanding something... If you do Oauth for Web Apps, you register your site with a callback URL and get a unique consumer secret key. But once you've obtained an Oauth for Web Apps token, you don't have to generate Oauth calls to the google server from your registered domain. I regularly use my key and token from scripts running via an apache server at localhost on my laptop and Google never says "you're not sending this request from the registered domain." It just sends me the data. Now, as I understand it, if you do Oauth for Installed Apps, you use "anonymous" instead of a secret key you got from Google. I've been thinking of just using the OAuth for Web Apps auth method, then passing that token to an installed app that has my secret code embedded in its innards. The worry is that the code could be discovered by bad people. But what's more secure... making them work for the secret code or letting them default to anonymous? What really goes bad if the "secret" is discovered when the alternative is using "anonymous" as the secret?
