• Grub Doesn't Load after Update

  Hi Everyone, After I updated ubuntu (I believe it was most likely a kernel update) and restarted I selected ubuntu from the windows boot loader (I am using wubi). At this point I would usually land on the grub loader; however, I see something about NTFS file not found and a couple other screens flash then the computer restarts. I have tried pressing ESC right after to try and get some options, but I think grub is just not found or something... Not sure what is going on.. Any help would be much appreciated :). Thanks!

  I will soon be receiving a new machine (yes, I need the improved performance!) how can I transfer over all of my current Ubuntu settings and files to the new machine. This is very important because I have many packages installed from apt-get, python packages, emacs packages and so forth. I really want to avoid installing all of the same packages over again. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. What is the best solution in transferring my current ubuntu settings and files to a new machine? Let me know if you need more information. • How to maximize parallel download from S3

  I got a lot of images to load from Amazon S3 on a single page, and sometimes it takes quite some time to load all the images. I heard that splitting the images to load from different sub-domains would help parallel downloads, however what is the actual implementation on that? While it is easy to split for sub-domains like static,image, etc; Should I make like 10 sub-domains (image1, image2...) to load say 100 images? Or is there some clever ways to do? (By the way I am considering using memcache to cache the S3images; I am not sure if it is possible. I would be grateful for any further comments. Thanks a lot!

  Hello, Let's say I have a pdf form file available at website which is filled by the users and submitted to the server. On the server side (Asp.Net) I would like to merge the data that I receive in xml format with the empty pdf form that was filled and save it. As I have found there are several possible ways of doing it: Using pdf form created by adobe acrobat and filling it with itextsharp. Using pdf form created by adobe acrobat and filling it with FDF Toolkit .net (which seems to be using itextsharp internally) Usd pdfkt to fill the form. Use pdf form file created with adobe livecycle and merge the data by using Form Data Integration Service As I have no experience with this kind of task can you advise which option would be better/easier and give some additional tips?   I have created a new custom list form that will show 4 fields on the page from a Custom List called "Shipment". I have added Form Action button that I would like to run a custom action that is set inside of a Workflow. Currently, the form displays the fields for "Manifest Number", "Pickup Location", "Delivery Location", & "Scheduled Pickup Time". When the user clicks the Form Action button, what I want the Workflow to do is go to the ID field of the displayed content in the Form and change the value of the "Picked Up" column from No to Yes. The problem I am having is passing the ID of the displayed information from the Form to the Workflow as a variable. I can get the "Picked Up" column to update if I specify the value in the "Update List Item" window under the "Find the List Item" section, but I cannot figure out how to do this dynamically from the Form

• Submitting a form on 'Enter' with jQuery?

  I have a bog-standard login form - an email text field, a password field and a submit button on an AIR project that's using HTML/jQuery. When I hit Enter on the form, the entire form's contents vanish, but the form isn't submitted. Does anyone know if this is a Webkit issue (Adobe AIR uses Webkit for HTML), or if I've bunged things up? I tried: $('.input').keypress(function(e){ if(e.which == 13){ $('form#login').submit(); } }); But that neither stopped the clearing behavior, or submitted the form. There's no action associated with the form - could that be the issue? Can I put a javascript function in the action?

  I'm trying to post the entire asp.net form to a certain url. I have tried: $.post("http://www.someaddress.com", $("form").serialize()); I have also tried: $.ajax({ type:"POST", url:"http://www.someaddress.com", data: $('form').serialize(), success: function(){ alert('yay'); } }); In both cases the submit is fine but no data is passed along with it. When i test the form.serialize() in firebug console, this shows my form serialized just fine. When i view the submit in fiddler, i can see that the data part is not set. Maybe im not understanding the data part, but every single tutorial shows this as the way to go - serialize the form and set that as data. What must i do to get my serialized form as the data in my request? What am i missing? Also - why does the NET tab in firebug show all these requests as method OPTIONS?

  Hello, I have a page of products and for each of them, I want to have a form that uses AJAX to update the session. I've done this bit - just providing background. I use the product's ID to create a different form class and name for each form, so each form is called something like this_form_name_567 and the next would be this_form_name_568 and so on. There is a submit button per form. I'm having trouble figuring out a) which event is best to use so that the correct form will be identified when a submit button is clicked, b) once clicked, how to then make sure the correct value is taken from a hidden field (unique ID) within the submitted form so that I can populate a line of code such as: $.post("compare_response.php", {compare_this: $("#compare_this").val()}, function(data){ } Any help would be greatly appreciated. I.e.: The form itself doesn't have a name so I am targetting the form within a specific form ID. $("#content form").submit(function() { alert("lorem ipsum dolor?"); }); What would be the syntax for performing this in javascript alone without using jquery? • Stop an input field in a form from being submitted

  I'm writing some javascript that will insert some input fields into a form on a website. The thing is, I don't want those input fields to affect the form in any way, I don't want them to be submitted when the form is submitted, I only want my javascript to have access to their values. Is there some way I could add some input fields into the middle of a form and not have them submitted when the form is submitted? Obviously the ideal thing would be for the input fields to not be in the form element, but I want the layout of my resulting page to have my inserted input fields appear between elements of the original form.

  I'm trying to make a form that handles the checking of a domain: the form should fail based on a variable that was set earlier in another form. Basically, when a user wants to create a new domain, this form should fail if the entered domain exists. When a user wants to move a domain, this form should fail if the entered domain doesn't exist. I've tried making it dynamic overload the initbut couldn't see a way to get my passed variabele to the clean function. I've read that this dynamic validation can be accomplished using a factory method, but maybe someone can help me on my way with this? • form data posted using linq-to-sql not showing until I refresh the page

  I have an asp.net mvc app with a form. When you submit the form, it adds records to the sql database with linq-to-sql. After adding the records, the controller displays the form again, and should show those new values on the form. But, when it displays the form, the values are blank, until you refresh the page. While tracing through the code, I can see the records being added to the database when they are submitted, but the view doesnt display them, unless I refresh. The view is not the problem, it just displays the view model, which is missing the new records immediately after the post. I know this is kind of vague, but wasnt sure what parts of code to include here. Could this have something to do with data context life cycle? Basically, there is a data context created when the form is posted, then a different data context is created in the method that displays the form. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

  I want to load a word document using UIWebView. I used the code provided in http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/qa/qa2008/qa1630.html to load the document. But not all the documents load successfully. Sometimes I get an error Error Domain=WebKitErrorDomain Code=102 UserInfo=0x145bc10 "Frame load interrupted" The error seems to be very sporadic and I get this error only for some documents. However the same document loads correctly in mail.app. What am I missing?

• Why is my CPU being used while doing nothing?

  I have installed Ubuntu GNOME in BIOS mode on my MacBook (BIOS mode so that the proprietary NVIDIA drivers work. I need them for gaming.). For some reason, a lot of CPU is being used while not really doing anything. It swings between 20-30% on both cores, usually. But when I look at the list of processes and sort by CPU usage, I do not see anything special. No processes intensively doing anything. How can I fix this?   Hi, I have found a way to load exchange 2010 powershell into powershell running on a windows xp workstation, however there are a few commands that need to run. I was wondering how I could load them into a profile somehow. These are the commands that I need to run before I can do any of the exchange things such as Get-Mailbox. COMMAND 1 $session = New-PSSession -Configurationname Microsoft.Exchange –ConnectionUri http://servername/powershell -Credential $user (it prompts you for a username and p/word then the next command) COMMAND 2 Import-PSSession $session Then I am able to run exchange 2010 commands such as Get-Mailbox. Anyway I can load these so that when I click on the powershell shortcut they preload the importing of exchange commands. Thanks

• Load Average runaway

  Is there any way to chase down lockups and runaway load averages? Every so often (pretty randomly) I'll get my load average spike up over 5 usually to around 10-15 and sometimes as high as 75 (dual core machine), and cause my system to lock for an indeterminate amount of time. The only thing I can possibly chase it to is using nVidia fakeraid (RAID-1) with JFS on top of that for my /home partition. Also I noticed that when my load averages spike, the power management system doesn't step up my processor speed from 1.6 to its maximum 2.13Ghz clock speed (not sure if this makes a huge difference with this problem). Any ideas?

  Hi all: I have an nginx server (CentOS 5.3, linux) that I'm using as a reverse-proxy load-balancer in front of 8 ruby on rails application servers. As our load on these servers increases, I'm beginning to wonder at what point will the nginx server become a bottleneck? The CPUs are hardly used, but that's to be expected. The memory seems to be fine. No IO to speak of. So is my only limitation bandwidth on the NICs? Currently, according to some cacti graphs, the server is hitting around 700Kbps ( 5 min average ) on each NIC during high load. I would think this is still pretty low. Or, will the limit be in sockets or some other resource in the operating system? Thanks for any thoughts and insights. Aaron

  I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? • linux ssh -X graphical applications will not start when system load is high

  So I am using ssh -X to access a server. I am at a Xubuntu desktop accessing a Ubuntu server that is in the next room. Usually everything works fine, but when the system load gets high, any graphical applications I have freeze and fail to be restarted. This happens even if the process that is causing the high load has been niced to a low priority with "nice -n 19". And even though the system load is high, the command line works fine with no delay, and other applications I have running on the server (e.g. virtual machines) run fine. But any graphical application running through X dies. When the graphical applications fail they usually give out an error message that suggests a time-out. It seems that something connected to X has a low priority and times out. But what is it, and how does one fix it?
