• How to achieve a hidden status bar using three20 framework

  I'm using the TTThumbsViewController section of the three20 framework, and I have the status bar hidden throughout my application. When the user views the full size image, taps the screen(hiding the controls), when they tap again the controls reappear but the status bar is there too. I've searched through the whole library and been unable to isolate the section where this is happening. I'd love it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks, BB

• Avoid Apache's mod_status being exposed by Varnish

  An Ubuntu 9.04 box running Apache on 8080 and Varnish on 80. Recently set up Munin and was wondering why Apache graphs are empty. Saw from the logs that Munin is accessing /server-status?auto and getting 403 Forbidden back. So I edited /etc/apache2/monds-enabled/status.conf to allow access from 127.0.0.1. But doing this actually made /server-status public, since requests coming through Varnish appear to come from 127.0.0.1 too. So the question is, how do I configure mod_status to be accessible only by munin-node and not by Varnish?

But to show status anytime , do i need to use a thread to continuously read and display the power status? I am thinking of using event handler. But not sure how to implement. • Why do I get HTTP Code 414 on one network but not another?

  I have an otherwise working iPhone program. A recent change means that it generates some very long URLs (over 4000 characters sometimes) which I know isn't a great idea and I know how to fix -- that's not what I'm asking here. The curious thing is that when I make the connection using a 3G network (Vodafone UK) I get this HTTP "414 Request-URI Too Long" error but when I connect using my local WiFi connection it works just fine. Why would I get different results using different types of network? Could they be routing requests to different servers depending on where the connection originates? Or is there something else at stake here? The corollary questions relate to how common this is. Is it likely to happen whenever I use a cell network or just some networks?

• bitshift large strings for encoding QR Codes

  As an example, suppose a QR Code data stream contains 55 data words (each one byte in length) and 15 error correction words (again one byte). The data stream begins with a 12 bit header and ends with four 0 bits. So, 12 + 4 bits of header/footer and 15 bytes of error correction, leaves me 53 bytes to hold 53 alphanumeric characters. The 53 bytes of data and 15 bytes of ec are supplied in a string of length 68 (str68). The problem seems simple enough - concatenate 2 bytes of (right-shifted) header data with str68 and then left shift the entire 70 bytes by 4 bits. This is the first time in many years of programming that I have ever needed to do something like this, I am a c and bit shifting noob, so please be gentle... I have done a little investigation and so far have not been able to figure out how to bitshift 70 bytes of data; any help would be greatly appreciated. Larger QR codes can hold 2000 bytes of data...

  Not sure if this will get closed as "not a real question" but I asked this on Superuser and it was closed for that very reason. We are thinking of implementing a QR code which will be sent to a number of users via an email which links through to a webpage. Now I'm aware that you can just Google 'QR codes' and there are a plethora of options that allow you to make a QR code. My question is thus; if we do go with this solution can we guarantee that it would work cross platform? I.e. on Android, iOS, Symbian etc?   Hi everyone, I have an application in python 2.5 which sends data through suds 0.3.6. The problem is that the data contains non-ascii characters, so I need the following header to exist in the soap message: Content-Type="text/html; charset="utf-8" and the header that exists in the SOAP message is just: Content-Type="text/html" I know that it is fixed in suds 0.4, but it requires Python2.6 and I NEED Python2.5 because I use CentOS and it needs that version. So the question is: How could I change or add new HTTP headers to a SOAP message?

• Private Git repo using Smart HTTP with LDAP authentification

  I've been crawling the interwebz and getting my hands dirty for the last few days, but I can't seem to make it all work together. I managed to get a HTTP repo working with Ubuntu 10.04 over Smart HTTP (pull and push over HTTP) for a single repo. This means that I do the initial setup over SSH to the server (git init --bare) and after that the clients can pull and push to it (git clone http://servername/allgitrepos/repo.git). Unfortunately it's impossible to add a new repo without SSHing to the server and adding it manually) i.e. git push http://servername/allgitrepos/repo2.git (allgitrepos is available for everyone to read-write and execute) would fail talking about git update-server-info (which seems to be a general error message). So far the repository is anonymous, so I would like to authenticate using LDAP and also use the LDAP creds to make the git commit. So, how can I push new repos to the server and how can I use the LDAP creds to make the git commit. Thanks

  An HTTP server uses content-negotiation to serve a single URL identity- or gzip-encoded based on the client's Accept-Encoding header. Now say we have a proxy cache like squid between clients and the httpd. If the proxy has cached both encodings of a URL, how does it determine which to serve? The non-gzip instance (not originally served with Vary) can be served to any client, but the encoded instances (having Vary: Accept-Encoding) can only be sent to a clients with the identical Accept-Encoding header value as was used in the original request. E.g. Opera sends "deflate, gzip, x-gzip, identity, *;q=0" but IE8 sends "gzip, deflate". According to the spec, then, caches shouldn't share content-encoded caches between the two browsers. Is this true?

  I have an Excel spreadsheet, and I want to put a button on it, so users will be able to upload their data to an http/ftp server, or send the data to the server using a socket directly. I have noticed that some people creates an ftp script to do. First of all, I'm not sure that everybody has ftp on their Windows machine, and secondly, I would prefer to use a method that allows me to better monitor the progress of the upload. • Is there anything in the FTP protocol like the HTTP Range header?

  Suppose I want to transfer just a portion of a file over FTP - is it possible using a standard FTP protocol? In HTTP I could use a Range header in the request to specify the data range of the remote resource. If it's a 1mb file, I could ask for the bytes from 600k to 700k. Is there anything like that in FTP? I am reading the FTP RFC, don't see anything, but want to make sure I'm not missing anything. There's a Restart command in FTP - would that work?

• 505 (HTTP version not supported) sent to client when ASP.NET application attempts to access WCF service

  We have created a DLL to facilitate access of a 3rd-party WCF Service. This DLL works fine in a Windows Application on our test machines, but when we try to use it in an ASP.NET application on our web server, our web server returns a 505 HTTP version not supported error to the client. To clarify, the setup is Client-Server-WCF Service. Using Fiddler, I can tell that our server is not making requests to the WCF Service. The calls are wrapped in a try/catch block, but no Exception occurs. Instead, as soon as the call to the service is attempted, our server returns a 505 error to the client and terminates execution. We are using clientCertificate authentication over HTTPS with serviceCertificate certificateValidationMode set to "None". Thanks

  If I understand right, applications sometimes use HTTP to send messages, since using other ports is liable to cause firewall problems. But how does that work without conflicting with other applications such as web-browsers? In fact how do multiple browsers running at once not conflict? Do they all monitor the port and get notified... can you share a port in this way? I have a feeling this is a dumb question, but not something I ever thought of before, and in other cases I've seen problems when 2 apps are configured to use the same port.

I tried adding the parameters to this request by first creating a BasicHttpParams object and adding the parameters to that object, then calling setParams( basicHttpParms ) on my HttpGet object. This method fails. But if I manually add my parameters to my URL (i.e. append '?param1=value1&param2=value2') it succeeds. I know I'm missing something here and any help would be greatly appreciated. • Is it bad practice to select upstream servers based upon the HTTP method?

  I'm wondering if it is bad practice to have a reverse proxy that selects the upstream server depending on the HTTP method used? The background is that I have an abitrary web server that handles POST requests with some logic behind. The same resources also contain static content, that can be retrieved using GET. After some benchmarking I realized that nginx would handle the static content way faster than my abitrary web server doing this. I checked the option to forward incoming requests internally using nginx, which is feasible. But this would lead to the fact that different servers would serve a distinct resource, only depending on issuing a GET or POST, including different header fields.

  Very weird, i had opened notepad ++ and working on my CSS codes for my website, suddenly my little niece unplugged the computer, when i re-start the computer and opened again the same CSS codes file in notepad ++, so all i am seeing is "NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL" there is no codes, all lost. I opened the same CSS codes file in other editors and its all empty no codes.. is there a way to fix it, because it was my hard work. and what can be the cause? Thank you.
