  I am using hibernate to update 20K products in my database. As of now I am pulling in the 20K products, looping through them and modifying some properties and then updating the database. so: load products foreach products session begintransaction productDao.MakePersistant(p); session commit(); As of now things are pretty slow compared to your standard jdbc, what can I do to speed things up? I am sure I am doing something wrong here.

• Python ctypes: loading DLL from from a relative path

  I have a Python module, wrapper.py, that wraps a C DLL. The DLL lies in the same folder as the module. Therefore, I use the following code to load it: myDll = ctypes.CDLL("MyCDLL.dll") This works if I execute wrapper.py from its own folder. If, however, I run it from elsewhere, ctypes goes looking for DLL in the current working directory and naturally fails. My question is, is there a way by which I can specify the DLL's path relative to the wrapper instead of the current working directory? This will enable me to ship the two together and allow the user to run/import the wrapper from anywhere.

  So, we have an ASP.Net application - fairly standard - and in there are lots of updatepanels, and postbacks. On some pages we have <ajax:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender ID="ae" runat="server" TargetControlID="updatePanel" BehaviorID="UpdateAnimation"> <Animations> <OnUpdating> <FadeOut Duration="0.1" minimumOpacity=".3" /> </OnUpdating> <OnUpdated> <FadeIn minimumOpacity=".5" Duration="0" /> </OnUpdated> </Animations> </ajax:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender> Which basically whites out the page when a postback is going on (but this clashes with modal dialog grey backgrounds). In some cases we have a progressupdate control which just has a spinny icon in the middle of the page. But none of them seem particularly nice and all a bit clunky. They also require a lot of code in various places around the app. What methods do other people use and find effective?

  I have class X that takes much time to initialize itself. I want to make that class singleton and force its creation when rails application starts. I've made the singleton: class X @@instance = nil def self.instance if @@instance.nil? @@instance = X.new puts 'CREATING' end return @@instance end private_class_method :new end The problem is that every time I use this class I see 'CREATING' in logs. I've tried to put creation of class in initializers directory but it doesn't work either.

I'm developing an Air App using flash ... the app loads an external SWF file dynamically through an xml ... the SWF file has a movieclip that has a listener (ON click ) function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { navigateToURL(new URLRequest(clickURL)); } everything is working fine until i click on this movieclip ... it displays the below message SecurityError: Error #2121: Security sandbox violation: navigateToURL: http://www.mydomain.com/maskot/avatar.swf cannot access YAHOO.COM for example. This may be worked around by calling Security.allowDomain. any help !!! because i really have a deadline ! Thank you so much !

  Hi, I Want to load Image size 2550X3300 (i.e 1.7 Mb size), i have loaded the image into UIImageView and application gets crash due to low memory, Now i have loaded into uiWebview it works fine but i have to save this image into an PDF file in local resource. While iam saving UIImage in background same app gets crash due to low memory. Anyone has some suggestion or help to solve this issue. Thank You.

  Okay, so I'm not a Java guy, but I work with loads of them. We generally load Prototype with Tapestry 5, as Tapestry was built on this javascript library. As a UI/front end developer/engineer, I know the awesomeness of jQuery and the lack of prototype therein. (Feel free to debate that elsewhere -- this ticket doesn't concern that question, ha.) I've been curious for some time if it's possible to port jQuery into Tapestry instead of Prototype -- as in completely removing Prototype and Scriptaculous -- I realize it kind of defeats the purpose of the already bundled Prototype, but I wanted other opinions on the matter.   I am a little curious, I have a view controller class and an NIB/XIB (both are named "MapViewController") If I do the following it loads the NIB with the matching name. -(id)init { self = [super initWithNibName:@"MapViewController" bundle:nil]; if(self) { do things ... } return self; } if on the other hand I just specify [super init] does Xcode just look for a NIB that matches the name of the controller, is that how this is working? -(id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { do things ... } return self; } cheers Gary.

I'm guessing it has to do with the dynamic script being included as the last child of the <head> tag. How can I get this to work?

  Using VB6, I need to load a bitmap image and subsequently manipulate some of its data - specifically, I want to rotate a section within the image, and in the end keep the image intact with the rotated section. How do I (1) find out where an image gets loaded into memory (a physical address), and (2) in what format is it stored, a 1-D array, 2-D array, or what? Maybe you can even suggest a better way to do this. Thanks.

  Trying to get a GWT project off the ground and finding it difficult to do any basic routing. Trying to fire up different UI's based on the URL. Thought I could set a string based on the getHash() and then switch off that, but seems cumbersome (and annoying since I can't do string-based switches in Java). There's got to be a best practice for this. I know Gerrit uses hashes for determining this type of information but couldn't find where they do it in the source. Or is this totally not GWT-related? Something I can handle in web.xml? Any help is much appreciated.

  Hi all, I'm trying to optimize (limit) queries in a view. I am using the fields_for function. I need to reference various properties of the object, such as username for display purposes. However, this is a rel table, so I need to join with my users table. The result is N sub-queries, 1 for each field in fields_for. It's difficult to explain, but I think you'll understand what I'm asking if I paste my code: <%= form_for @election do |f| %> <%= f.fields_for :voters do |voter| %> <%= voter.hidden_field :id %> <%= voter.object.user.preferred_name %> <% end %> <% end %> I have like 10,000 users, and many times each election will include all 10,000 users. That's 10,000 subqueries every time this view is loaded. I want fields_for to JOIN on users. Is this possible? I'd like to do something like: ... <%= f.fields_for :voters, :joins => :users do |voter| %> ... <% end %> ... But that, of course, doesn't work :(

• problem loading resource from class library

  I have a class library (mylibrary) which has a resource called "close.png". I used redGate reflector to confirm that the resource is actually present in the dll. Now i use mylibrary.dll in a project where i attempt to extract this "close.png" resource like this : BitmapImage crossImage = new BitmapImage(); crossImage.BeginInit(); crossImage.UriSource = new Uri(@"/mylibrary;component/Resources/close.png", UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute); crossImage.EndInit(); This BitmapImage crossImage is then used like : Button closeButton = new Button() { Content = new System.Windows.Controls.Image() { Source = crossImage }, MaxWidth = 20, MaxHeight = 20 }; On doing this i get no exceptions being thrown but the button shows no image. Also, i do see some exception info if i investigate the button's 'content' in the debugger.

• iPhone Application crashing upon loading a new Detail View

  Hi, My problem is when trying to load a detail view through a table cell, the application constantly crashes. The error that comes up when running through debug is "__TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___" objc exception thrown. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.   This error just started happening this morning in one particular project. When I try to publish the site it gives me this error and I can't complete the publish! Sometimes restarting Visual Studio magically fixes the problem, but it will just appear again later. Not only that, when I restart VS I lose all my "undo capabilities". There is a KB article on the subject, but it did not help. What can I do to stop this very annoying problem once and for all?

• Codeigniter PHP - loading a view at an anchor point

  I have a form at the bottom of a long page, if a user fills out the form but it doesn't validate the page is reloaded in the typical codeigniter fashion: $this->load->view('template',$data); however because the form is way down at the bottom of the page I need the page to load down there like you do with HTML anchors. Does anyone know how to do this in codeigniter? I can't use the codeigniter redirect(); function because it loses the object and the validation errors are gone. Other frameworks I've used like Yii you can call the redirect function like: $this->redirect(); which solves the problem because you keep the object. I've tried using: $this->index() within the controller which works fine as a redirect but the validation errors are in another method which is where the current page is loaded from: $this->item($labs) but when I use this it get stuck in a loop Any ideas? I've seen this question a lot on the net but no clear answers. I'm researching using codeigniter "flash data" but think it's a bit overkill. cheers.
