  • How can one request a debug build from javac without changing the ant scripts?

    I have a complex build system involving many ant scripts, some targets of which invoke the javac task. These ant scripts do not provide for a way to request a debug build from javac, i.e. neither debug nor debuglevel parameters of the javac task are specified. Is it still possible to instruct javac to build with debugging support without changing the build scripts themselves? The scripts are invoked from console.

  • rake task can't access rails.cache

    Hi I want to call a rake task from a cron job that stores remote weather data in the rails cache. However, I must be doing something pretty wrong here because I cannot find any solution through countless fruitless searches. Say I define and call this task namespace :weather do desc "Store weather from remote source to cache" task :cache do Rails.cache.write('weather_data', Date.today) end end I get the error Anonymous modules have no name to be referenced by Which leads me to believe the rails cache isn't available. Outputting Rails.class from the rake file gives me Module but Rails.cache.class again returns the above error. Do I need to include something here? Am I just hopeless at internet? :) Thanks in advance.

  • asp.net mvc: What is the correct way to return html from controller to refresh select list?

    Hi, I am new to ASP.NET MVC, particularly ajax operations. I have a form with a jquery dialog for adding items to a drop-down list. This posts to the controller action. If nothing (ie void method) is returned from the Controller Action the page returns having updated the database, but obviously there no chnage to the form. What would be the best practice in updating the drop down list with the added id/value and selecting the item. I think my options are: 1) Construct and return the html manually that makes up the new <select> tag [this would be easy enough and work, but seems like I am missing something] 2) Use some kind of "helper" to construct the new html [This seems to make sense] 3) Only return the id/value and add this to the list and select the item [This seems like an overkill considering the item needs to be placed in the correct order etc] 4) Use some kind of Partial View [Does this mean creating additional forms within ascx controls? not sure how this would effect submitting the main form its on? Also unless this is reusable by passing in parameters(not sure how thats done) maybe 2 is the option?] UPDATE: Having looked around a bit, it seems that generating html withing the controller is not a good idea. I have seen other posts that render partialviews to strings which I guess is what I need and separates concerns (since the html bits are in the ascx). Any comments on whether that is good practice.

    I have an array in Perl I want to print with space delimiters between each element, except every 10th element which should be newline delimited. There aren't any spaces in the elements if that matters. I've written a function to do it with for and a counter, but I wondered if there's a better/shorter/canonical Perl way, perhaps a special join syntax or similar.   • Fluent NHibernate MappingException : could not instantiate id generator

    I'm pottering around with Fluent NHibernate to try and get a simple app up and running. I'm running through this Fluent NHibernate Tutorial. Everything seems to be going fine and I've created the required classes etc. and it all builds, but when I run the test, I get an exception. Someone in the comments section of the tutorial has the same problem, but I can't find any good information on what's causing it. Any help appreciated. It's probably something trivial.   • mongodb php finding a subobject and removing it, $inc other subobject

    I'm trying to delete the subobject 'apples' from my documents and update the 'fruitInventory' property, decrease by the amount of apples. I'm confused on how to proceed, should I use dot notation or do a full text search for apples?   • IE bug with TD's tables and whitespace?

    Hi there, I have a page that is using tables, in FF etc it works perfect, but in IE7 it causes issues, its basically where the four corners have a td and and img (its a rounded corner form) .. if i remove the whitespace from the document it fixes the issue.. What actually happens is that it messes up the tables.. it puts a thin white line between the upper tr that holds the 2 corners and the next tr I need to remove the the whitespace between the img and the TD, is there a better work around, as i have lots and not only that if i reformat the document the problem returns.. here is a simple example.. <table width="100%" height="418" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#F04A23" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px"> <tr> <td width="12" align="left" valign="top"> <img src="content/images/corner_left.gif" width="12" height="12" /> </td> as you can see there is white space between img and td... and i remove it so it looks like this <img src="content/images/corner_left.gif" width="12" height="12" /></td> the problem is gone, (notice the td and image are right next to each other) Any ideas, i tried setting all sorts of css, padding 0px, margins 0px etc ... Any ideas really appreciated

    Hello, I have a system with 3 layers and I am using LINQ-to-SQL to persist. I want to validate if the description field of my object is empty. I am using partial classes and the method OnValidate(). If the field is empty, it throws an exception. Is this correct?   • How can I modify a scalar reference passed to a subroutine reference

    I have a function to convert documents into different formats, which then calls another function based on the type document. It's pretty straight forward for everything aside from HTML documents which require a bit of cleaning up, and that cleaning up is different based on where it's come from. So I had the idea that I could pass a reference to a subroutine to the convert function so the caller has the opportunity to modify the HTML, kinda like so (I'm not at work so this isn't copy-and-pasted): package Converter; ... sub convert { my ($self, $filename, $coderef) = @_; if ($filename =~ /html?$/i) { $self->_convert_html($filename, $coderef); } } sub _convert_html { my ($self, $filename, $coderef) = @_; my $html = $self->slurp($filename); $coderef->(\$html); #this modifies the html $self->save_to_file($filename, $html); } which is then called by: Converter->new->convert("./whatever.html", sub { s/<html>/<xml>/i }); I've tried a couple of different things along these lines but I keep on getting 'Use of uninitialized value in substitution (s///)'.     I am totally confused by a simple Microsoft error message. When I run XSD.exe against an assembly that contains a custom ConfigurationSection (which in turn utilizes a custom ConfigurationElement and a custom ConfigurationElementCollection, as well as several ConfigurationProperties), I get the following error message: Error: There was an error processing 'Olbert.Entity.Utils.dll'. There was an error reflecting type 'Olbert.Entity.DatabaseConnection'. You must implement a default accessor on System.Configuration.ConfigurationLockCollection because it inherits from ICollection. Yet the class in question has a default accessor: public object this[int idx] { get { return null; } set { } } I realize the above doesn't do anything, but I don't need to access the element's properties by index. I'm just trying to work around the error message. So what's going on?

  • Update C# Chart using BackgroundWorker

Basically, I want to do a whole lot more processing after clearing the series, which slows the GUI down completely - so wanted this in another thread. I thought that by passing it as an argument, I should be safe, but apparently not! Interestingly, the chart is on a tab page. I can run this over and over if the tabpage is in the background, but if I run this, look at the chart, hide it again, and re-run, it throws the exception. Obviously, it throws if the chart is in the foreground as well. Can anyone suggest what I can do differently? Thanks!

  • How to create refresh statements for TableAdapter objects in Visual Studio?

    I am working on developing an ADO.NET data provider and an associated DDEX provider. I am unable to convince the Visual Studio TableAdapater Configuration Wizard to generate SQL statements to refresh the data table after inserts and updates. It generates the insert and delete statements but will not produce the select statements to do the refresh. The functionality referred to can be accessed by dropping a table from the Server Explorer (inside Visual Studio) onto a DataSet (e.g., DataSet1.xsd). It creates a TableAdapter object and configures SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT statements. If you right click on the TableAdapter object, the context menu has a “Configure” option that starts the “TableAdapter Configuration Wizard”. The first dialog of that wizard has an Advanced Options button, which leads to an option titled “Refresh the data table”. When used with SQL Server tables, that option causes a statement of the form “select field1, field2, …” to be added on to the end of the commands for the TableAdapter’s InsertCommand and UpdateCommand. Do you have any idea what type property or interface might need to be exposed from the DDEX provider (or maybe the ADO.NET data provider) in order to make Visual Studio add those refresh statements to the update/insert commands? The MSDN documentation for the Advanced SQL Generation Options Dialog Box has a note stating, “Refreshing the data table is only supported on databases that support batching of SQL statements.” This seems to imply that a .NET data provider might need to expose some property indicating such behavior is supported. But I cannot find it. Any ideas?

  • Is there a predefined enumeration for Month in the .NET library?

    I'm looking to see if there is an official enumeration for months in the .net framework. It seems possible to me that there is one, because of how common the use of month is, and because there are other such enumerations in the .net framework. For instance, there is an enumeration for the days in the week, System.DayOfWeek, which includes monday, tuesday, etc.. I'm wondering if there is one for the months in the year, ie. January, February, etc? Does anyone know? Thanks for reading!

  • problem writing xml to file with .net mvc - timeout?

    Hey, so having an issue with writing out to an xml file. Works fine for single requests via the browser, but when I use something like Charles to perform 5-10 repeated requests concurrently several of them will fail. The trace simply shows a 500 error with no content inside, basically I think they start timing out waiting for write access or something... This method is inside my repository class, have also attempted to have repository instance as a singleton but doesn't appear to make any difference.. Any help would be much appreciated.   • uiSlider thumb graphic 'flashes' when dragging uiScrollview on 1st gen 3.1.3

    I have added my own thumb to a uiSlider and added a 1px x 1px transparent .png to the tracks (I don't want to see the tracks) (I have also tried setting tracks to nil). My uiSlider is also rotated to vertical. The uiSlider sits over a uiScrollView but is not 'attached' to that view. There are numerous uiLabels 'attached' to this uiScrollView, so they all slide about 'beneath' the uiSlider. It all works fine on 3g and iphone 4, but on my 1g itouch (3.1.3) I get a strange flash from the thumb graphic sometimes when scrolling the uiScrollview!? It does seem to happen when the edge of a uiLabel (on the uiScrollView) passes 'under' the thumb graphic? I have tried everything I can think of...

    I have a simple html service, developed in django. You enter your name - it posts this, and returns a value (male/female). I need to ofer this as a web service. I have no idea where to start. I want to accept a xml request, and provide an xml response - thats it. Can anyone give ma any pointers - Googling it is difficult when you dont know what your searching for.
