  • Why is firefox 4 not HW accelerated?

    At first i thought it was my computer but then i tried chrome. Why isnt firefox not hardware accelerated? The first screenshot shows chrome at 23% usage. The 2nd shows 59%. I have 2 cpus which is why it isnt 100% usage.   • I love google Chrome, but some non-static pages like Piwik render it unresponsive

    The web-stat software Piwik stops reacting on mouse clicks after 1-2 seconds. The same is true for Google Maps and Producteev (but GMail and most other pages work like a charm). These rely heavily on JS, and work without Flash. I can click for a very short time period and then the mouse cursor doesn't feel the UI anymore (it doesn't turn into a I over input fields, though it moves; if the freeze occured while the pointer was over an input field, the cursor keeps being a I) and all clicks on the DOM are being ignored by Chrome. No message appears, neither obvious nor in the Console (F12). There is no obstructing div or the like in the DOM (F12). Since I couldn't find any hints on the source of my problems, I suspected my plugins and extensions. Unfortunately, neither deactivating all plugins nor all extensions solved the problem. for the problematic pages, it always happens no Dropbox running several GB of free RAM the taskmanager doesn't show any high CPU or memory utilization (the offending tab uses 30 MB and uses 0-1 % CPU) all problematic pages work in other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) the rest of the computer is very responsive the computers use different security suites (Kaspersky and Avira) The effect exists between several (synchronized) Chrome instances on different machines, all running Windows 7. Both the OS and Chrome are updated automatically. Other tabs and the Chrome chrome (tabs, menus, toolbar buttons of the browser itself) still work. I really don't like switching between browsers. Any ideas?

Here's how:** 1. Download and unpack the extension (from PECL, for instance). 2. If the extension is already compiled (most binary PHP loaders will be, for instance), skip to step 6. 3. /usr/local/php53/bin/phpize 4. ./configure --with-php-config=/usr/local/php53/bin/php-config 5. make 6. Copy the module to your .php/5.3/ directory. 7. Assuming your user is called "username" and your module is named "mymodule.so", add the following to your .php/5.3/phprc: extension = /home/username/.php/5.3/mymodule.so Downloaded Openldap stable release online, uploaded the unpacked gzip via ftp to my server, did step 3, 4, 5. Now on step 6 is says "copy the module...". My question is where is the module for me to copy? Sorry if it's obvious and I'm not seeing it; first time compiling a php extension :O

    I starting doing some experimentation toward making a browser userscript for Google searches and when opening the JavaScript console noticed something that strikes me as very fishy: The page at https://www.google.com.au/search?oq=XYZ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=XYZ displayed insecure content from http://50.116.62.47/js/chromeServerV45.js. The page at about:blank displayed insecure content from http://96.126.107.154/amz/google.php?callback=a&q=XYZ&country=US. (XYZ is a placeholder for whatever the search terms really was.) Is it likely that I've picked something like a drive-by browser infection? I've tried all kinds of searches for these URLs and other keywords but I've had no luck finding anything conclusive about whether they're malicious or what they are: 50.116.62.47 chromeServerV45.js 96.126.107.154 amz/google.php The only extensions I have installed are either widely used or written by myself. But something else is strange and I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence. I updated my Windows Chrome browser today to version 23.0.1271.64 m and now my Extensions tab as well as my settings tab are blank, so I can't try disabling my extesions.   • Copying large files from USB devices to the internal hard drive fails on Mac OS

    I have a second-generation 13" MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.6 with a 2.13 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD hard disk. I often get failures when I attempt to copy a large file or large collection of files from an external USB drive (typically a "Firewire" generation Drobo) to the internal drive. The failure behaves almost exactly as if I had pulled the USB cable from the computer in mid-transfer. I get a warning that I have removed the hard disk improperly. After this event, the drive no longer appears mounted in the finder, and I have to unplug and reinsert the USB cable to mount the drive again. I have also seen a similar problem when using Aperture 3 to import a large number of photos and videos from a USB Compact Flash card reader. The import will fail and I will have to unplug the Card Reader and import the missing items. Oddly, reversing the direction of the copy seems pretty reliable. I've never had a problem copying a large file to a USB device, meaning that I have quite a few large files which are stranded on my Drobo. Does anyone know of a hardware revision without this issue that I can trade up to? Are there any other potential solutions out there?

We have IIS on win srvr 2003 SP2. The website is configured with .NET 1.1.4322.   • Unable to use OpenGL or install nVidia driver on openSUSE 12.2

    I have an ASUS N76VZ laptop with 12.2 openSUSE and GeForce GT650M card. I found that KDE doesn't allow me to use OpenGL rendering. I tried to install nVidia's driver from script but once it writes the xorg.conf file I'm unable to boot desktop.   • How do I keep the keyword.url setting in firefox to default when you restart the browser without del

    I am on the latest version of Firefox (not beta or anything like that) and currently my keyword.url is stuck on search.google.com (which I don't remember setting even though the about:config says it's a user setting. Can someone tell me how to set it back to default and keep it at default when I reset my browser? I do not want to delete prefs.js as I do not want to go thru setting up all the extension settings I have just to have my location bar search google (if this is the only way then I'll stick with searching from the search bar instead). I've checked all my extensions that may effect the location bar but could not find anything that says it would change the default search engine for this. I've also tried to open the prefs.js in wordpad or notepad but it just ends up freezing when trying to edit it at all (yes the browser is closed at the time). I also deleted the prefs-1.js (along with 2 others) that were older (after trying to rename those to prefs.js and see if this corrects it. It might have but had such old extension settings I went back to my latest prefs.js with this one issue instead of the issue of setting back up a ton of extensions. I can give any other info if needed, someone please help me fix this issue if possible.

  • How to make Firefox file associations consistent with Ubuntu file associations?

The gist of what I want to accomplish is to have Firefox understand the file associations I download without me having to manually map all of them myself. Gnome knows the file extensions, so I would have expected that Firefox could just use the already-known file mappings there to open the right stuff (as I presume Chrome does). But it doesn't. At least not for me, using Firefox 4, and not by default. When I click on a downloaded file right now, Firefox always has to ask me what application should be used to open the file. A handful of Google results tell me that I can reassociate my file extensions by deleting ~/.mozilla/firefox/[profile name]/mimeTypes.rdf, but while deleting that file does in fact result in a new mimeTypes file being generated, the new mimeTypes is just as barren as the old one had been. Based on the amount of unanswered Qs on the Googlesphere, I know this is a very common problem for Ubuntu users, but it seems to be one for which nobody has chimed in with a good solution. Maybe Superuser can finally be the panacea for us all?

    I need both PHP 5.4.7 and 5.3.17 running on Windows 7 x64 with Apache 2.2.23. This is my virtual host configuration: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "C:/WAMP/Apache/htdocs/php54" ServerName php54.local PHPIniDir "C:/WAMP/PHP54" LoadModule php5_module "C:/WAMP/PHP54/php5apache2_2.dll" php_value extension_dir "C:/WAMP/PHP54/ext" <Directory "C:/WAMP/Apache/htdocs/php54"> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> The PHPIniDir and LoadModule directives work fine and using phpinfo() inside my script prints the right PHP version. But I need to load extensions, and this is where it fails. php_value extension_dir should be C:/WAMP/PHP54/ext but it's (default one) C:/php. What I'm missing here?     OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard: Google Chrome works like a charm most of the time. I have many extensions installed, and I've tried disabling/re-enabling them one by one to find a culprit, with no luck. Here are the problems: (1) Chrome is slow to load GMail. I am fairly sure that clearing the cache alleviates this problem. But I can open Safari, type in the URL, and login to GMail in the time it sometimes takes Chrome to open the page. Shouldn't caching help the page load?!? And sometimes even after recent cache clears it still is slow to load..... Thoughts? (2) Chrome won't open Google Docs at all. Safari does. Again, I tried disabling extensions one-by-one, and I allow cookies and even third-party cookies. But I still am told it has a redirect loop. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    I seem to have some issues sharing folders from my Ubuntu 12.04 machine to a Win7 machine. After playing around with the settings, I decided to revert to Samba's original setting by reinstalling it: sudo apt-get purge samba sudo rm -rf /etc/samba/ /etc/default/samba sudo apt-get install samba just to be sure I also run: sudo apt-get install samba samba-common system-config-samba winbind Now, I can't find /etc/samba folder any more. Even when I try to share a folder through Nautilus, I get: Samba's testparm returned error 1: Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384) params.c:OpenConfFile() - Unable to open configuration file "/etc/samba/smb.conf": No such file or directory Error loading services. Same when I try to list: xxx@xxx:~$ ll /etc/samba ls: cannot access /etc/samba: No such file or directory Any ideas what I did wrong, or what other package am I missing? cheers

The source of the problem is that the installed oneric package doesn't recognize my ios 5.1 - so I wanted to switch to the latest and greatest (1.0.7 and if that's not good enough I'll go to the dev version 1.1.2). I'm using oneric 64bit.

    al descargar un archivo a través de cualquier navegador (chrome, firefox, etc) e intentar abrirlo directamente, en vez de abrirse el archivo se abre el directorio en que se descargó. lo mismo me sucedió al intentar abrir un archivo desde el dash de gnome-shell. Esto sólo me sucede con los accesos directos a los archivos, cuando estoy dentro de nautilus se abre el archivo sin problemas. he intentado en distintos entornos de escritorio, el que uso más constantemente es Gnome-Shell, bajo Ubuntu 12.04 ¿cómo lo puedo solucionar?   • random lags in music when playing on any music player

    guys I have experienced this issue in most of all the music players i tried in ubuntu 12.10. When ever I play a track I experience certain issue, like the track just skipped a second or two. This happens occasionally but at least 4-5 times when ever i play any music track. The actual thing is that the track fast forwards by just 1 or 2 secs and then runs on normal rate. This used to happen during a video, but now it doesn't. But for the music this issue has not stopped. ASRock mootherboard,core2 duo. Also I get ubuntu 12.10 has experienced an internal error(its regarding nautilus). Also the Software Update always gives an internet connection connection error whereas I am able to browse the web and download with ease. Please reply..

    I have installed the lamp-server but i stuck in one certain step.. Were it says remove installation folder if i click the button "Remove installation folder:" it says "error" and i guess this is because it doesn't have root previlages. So i run sudo nautilus go to the folder var/www, and remove the folder installation.. So now when i try to access my localhost No configuration file found and no installation code available. Exiting... I am confused, it asked me to remove it and now that is removed it needs it..:?

    When I try to save something or rename a file/folder it say this error " Read-only file system" or run something as root in the terminal it say this error sudo: unable to open /var/lib/sudo/"My User Name"/0: Read-only file system W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/ E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. When I make a Folder the error dialog in the details with Nautilus is this: Error creating directory: Read-only file system I would show you I picture of it but it isn't even letting my save onto my flash drive.   • Be able to create edit and move files to and from /var/www

    I have installed lamp on Ubuntu 12.04. I try to access /var/www but it doesn't allow me to do anything as it says I don't have permissions. I have tried: 1. gksudo nautilus - which works but its very inconvenient way of doing things. 2. sudo adduser ryan www-data sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www sudo chmod g+rw /var/www The above didn't work. I have googled and searched this site for a solution, but all the existing possible solutions have not worked.
