  • What the guidelines around filters and querystring parameters in RSS Feeds?

    - by Chris Henry
I run a site where users can content that is tagged by a special set of tags. While implementing RSS feeds, I was wondering what, if any, rules or guidelines exist for using a querystring to filter what content an RSS feed shows. For example, the feed that shows all content on the site would be: /feed If someone was interested in all the work that was tagged with fashion, the URL would be /feed?tag=fashion

  • Can you pass parameters for OnAction in MS Project VBA?

    - by Anne Schuessler
The way I can define a method to be executed with OnAction in VBA with Microsoft Project is as follows (and works correctly): .OnAction = "Macro ""DoSomething""" ... where DoSomething is the method to execute. I would like to pass a parameter to that method but can't find a way to pass it with this syntax. Does anybody have an idea how to do this? I'm getting the feeling that this is an impossible task, but maybe there's some VBA secret I'm not aware of. Please note that VBA in MS Project seems to have its quirks and is slightly different than VBA for Excel or Access. This seems to be the case for the OnAction property which needs the extra Macro keyword to work correctly. If I'm wrong here please enlighten me.

  • Does the compiler optimize the function parameters passed by value?

    - by Naveen
Lets say I have a function where the parameter is passed by value instead of const-reference. Further, lets assume that only the value is used inside the function i.e. the function doesn't try to modify it. In that case will the compiler will be able to figure out that it can pass the value by const-reference (for performance reasons) and generate the code accordingly? Is there any compiler which does that?

  • Is there a nice way of having static generic parameters is Java?

    - by Chris
Hello, recently I'm writing some functions that I take from Haskell and translate into Java. One of the main problems I have is I cannot easily create a static property with a generic type. Let me explain by a little example... // An interface to implement functions public interface Func<P, R> { public R apply(P p); } // What I want to do... (incorrect in Java) public class ... { public static <T> Func<T, T> identity = new Func<T, T>() { public T apply(T p) { return p; } } } // What I do right now public class ... { private static Func<Object, Object> identity = new Func<Object, Object>() { public Object apply(Object p) { return p; } } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public static <T> Func<T, T> getIdentity() { return (Func<T, T>)identity; } } Are there any easier ways to do something like that? What kind of problems might arise if the syntax I used would be valid?

  • What is the reliable way to return error code from an MPI program?

    - by mezhaka
The MPI standard (page 295) says: Advice to users. Whether the errorcode is returned from the executable or from the MPI process startup mechanism (e.g., mpiexec), is an aspect of quality of the MPI library but not mandatory. Indeed I had no success in running the following code: if(0 == my_rank) { FILE* parameters = fopen("parameters.txt", "r"); if(NULL == parameters) { fprintf(stderr, "Could not open parameters.txt file.\n"); printf("Could not open parameters.txt file.\n"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); //Tried MPI_Abort() as well } fscanf(parameters, "%i %f %f %f", N, X_DIMENSION_Dp, Y_DIMENSION_Dp, HEIGHT_DIMENSION_Dp); fclose(generation_conf); } I am not able to get the error code back into the shell in order to make a decision on further actions. Neither of two error messages are printed. I think I might write the error codes and messages to a dedicated file. Has anyone ever had a similar problem and what were the options you've considered to do a reliable error reporting?

  • How do I pass references as method parameters across AppDomains?

    - by Thiado de Arruda
I have been trying to get the following code to work(everything is defined in the same assembly) : namespace SomeApp{ public class A : MarshalByRefObject { public byte[] GetSomeData() { // } } public class B : MarshalByRefObject { private A remoteObj; public void SetA(A remoteObj) { this.remoteObj = remoteObj; } } public class C { A someA = new A(); public void Init() { AppDomain domain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("ChildDomain"); string currentAssemblyPath = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().Location; B remoteB = domain.domain.CreateInstanceFromAndUnwrap(currentAssemblyPath,"SomeApp.B") as B; remoteB.SetA(someA); // this throws an ArgumentException "Object type cannot be converted to target type." } } } What I'm trying to do is pass a reference of an 'A' instance created in the first AppDomain to the child domain and have the child domain execute a method on the first domain. In some point on 'B' code I'm going to call 'remoteObj.GetSomeData()'. This has to be done because the 'byte[]' from 'GetSomeData' method must be 'calculated' on the first appdomain. What should I do to avoid the exception, or what can I do to achieve the same result?

  • Why Camera.setParameters(Camera.Parameters) has no effect on Sony-Ericsson X10 and Droid?

    - by mobilekid
Has anyone come across a strange behaviour with the Camera API when used on Sony-Ericsson X10 or Droid? For example the following code doesn't work on those devices. As a result I'm getting a lot of negative feedback on the Market translating into many cancelled orders... mParameters.set("rotation", orientation); mParameters.set("jpeg-quality", img_quality); mParameters.set("picture-size", "1024x768"); mCamera.setParameters(mParameters); Could you suggest an alternative way of achieving the same? Thanks.

  • Get return values from a stored procedure in c# (login process)

    - by Jin
    Hi all, I am trying to use a Stored Procedure which takes two parameters (login, pw) and returns the user info. If I execute the SP manually, I get Session_UID User_Group_Name Sys_User_Name ------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------- - NULL Administrators NTMSAdmin No rows affected. (1 row(s) returned) @RETURN_VALUE = 0 Finished running [dbo].[p_SYS_Login]. But with the code below, I only get the return value. do you know how to get the other values shown above like Session_UID, User_Group_Name, and Sys_User_Name ? if you see the commented part below code. I tried to add some output parameters but it doesn't work with incorrect number of parameters error. string strConnection = Settings.Default.ConnectionString; using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(strConnection)) { using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand()) { SqlDataReader rdr = null; cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = "p_SYS_Login"; //cmd.CommandText = "p_sys_Select_User_Group"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; SqlParameter paramReturnValue = new SqlParameter(); paramReturnValue.ParameterName = "@RETURN_VALUE"; paramReturnValue.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Int; paramReturnValue.SourceColumn = null; paramReturnValue.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue; //SqlParameter paramGroupName = new SqlParameter("@User_Group_Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); //paramGroupName.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; //SqlParameter paramUserName = new SqlParameter("@Sys_User_Name", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50); //paramUserName.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramReturnValue); //cmd.Parameters.Add(paramGroupName); //cmd.Parameters.Add(paramUserName); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Sys_Login", textUserID.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Sys_Password", textPassword.Text); try { conn.Open(); object result = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); int returnValue = (int)cmd.Parameters["@RETURN_VALUE"].Value; if (returnValue == 0) { Hide(); Program.MapForm.Show(); } else if (returnValue == 1) { MessageBox.Show("The username or password you entered is incorrect", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } else if (returnValue == 2) { MessageBox.Show("This account is disabled", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } else { MessageBox.Show("Database error. Please contact administrator", "NTMS Login", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning); } } catch (Exception ex) { string message = ex.Message; string caption = "MAVIS Exception"; MessageBoxButtons buttons = MessageBoxButtons.OK; MessageBox.Show( message, caption, buttons, MessageBoxIcon.Warning, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button1); } } } Thanks for your help.

  • Can one extract model fit parameters after a ggplot stat_smooth call?

    - by Alex Holcombe
Using stat_smooth, I can fit models to data. E.g. g=ggplot(tips,aes(x=tip,y=as.numeric(unclass(factor(tips$sex))-1))) +facet_grid(time~.) g=g+ stat_summary(fun.y=mean,geom="point") g=g+ stat_smooth(method="glm", family="binomial") I would like to know the coefficients of the glm binomial fits. I could re-do the fit with dlply and get the coefficients with ldply, but I'd like to avoid such duplication. Calling str(g) reveals the hierarchy of objects that ggplot creates, perhaps there's some way to get to the coefficients through that?

  • WPF Binding to Items within a collection? (or converter with parameters)

    - by Sonic Soul
i am using a WPF DataGrid, and in my Details row, i would like to show separate objects within a sub collection of each grid item. Is it possible to have a finer control of Path? for example something like... Path=SubCollection['ItemX'] etc.. also, if i was to use a converter, i don't want to have to create a separate converter for each item.. so would there be a way to supply a parameter to a converter that could than determine which collection item to return??

  • Is this the right way to have "global" parameters for my servlets?

    - by Geo
If I have: <context-param> <param-name>SomeParam</param-name> <param-value>SomeValue</param-value> </context-param> in my web.xml, is this the servlet way of specifying options ( like in the way a config file is used ) , or am I doing something wrong? I know about init-param that can be specified for a servlet, but I'd like o make sure some values are the same for all the servlets.

  • C++0x: how to get variadic template parameters without reference?

    - by Sydius
Given the following contrived (and yes, terrible) example: template<typename... Args> void something(Args... args) { std::tuple<Args...> tuple; // not initializing for sake of example std::get<0>(tuple) = 5; } It works if you call it like so: int x = 10; something<int>(x); However, it does not work if you call it like this: int x = 10; something<int&>(x); Because of the assignment to 5. Assuming that I cannot, for whatever reason, initialize the tuple when it is defined, how might I get this to work when specifying the type as a reference? Specifically, I would like the tuple to be std::tuple<int> even when Args... is int&.

  • How do I use a graphics method to pass parameters? Example is below.

    - by sonny5
    private static void getCorners(out float Wx, out float Wy, out float Vx, out float Vy) { // note-- I don't know how to flip the Y axis using this method... this is not a "graphics" method // In other words, I should use something like: // flipY(object sender, System.EventArgs e); // but don't know the syntax or whatever // I tried to do this: //Graphics g = this.CreateGraphic //Matrix myMatrix2 = new Matrix(1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0); // flip Y axis //g.Transform = myMatrix2; //g.TranslateTransform(0, 480, MatrixOrder.Append); // ...but I get the error: // error CS0026: Keyword 'this' is not valid in a static property, static method, or // static field initializer Wx = 1.00F; Wy = 1.00F; // make this 1.00 (not 3.00F) down from the TOP since cannot get Y flipped Vx = ((Wx- WXmin)*((VXmax-VXmin)+VXmin)/(WXmax-WXmin)); Vy = ((Wy-WYmin)*(VYmax-VYmin)/(WYmax-WYmin)+VYmin); } thanks, Sonny5

  • How to create custom MouseEvent.CLICK event in AS3 (pass parameters to function)?

    - by fromvega
Hello, This question doesn't relate only to MouseEvent.CLICK event type but to all event types that already exist in AS3. I read a lot about custom events but until now I couldn't figure it out how to do what I want to do. I'm going to try to explain, I hope you understand: Here is a illustration of my situation: for(var i:Number; i < 10; i++){ var someVar = i; myClips[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, doSomething); } function doSomething(e:MouseEvent){ /* */ } But I want to be able to pass someVar as a parameter to doSomething. So I tried this: for(var i:Number; i < 10; i++){ var someVar = i; myClips[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(){ doSomething(someVar); }); } function doSomething(index){ trace(index); } This kind of works but not as I expect. Due to the function closures, when the MouseEvent.CLICK events are actually fired the for loop is already over and someVar is holding the last value, the number 9 in the example. So every click in each movie clip will call doSomething passing 9 as the parameter. And it's not what I want. I thought that creating a custom event should work, but then I couldn't find a way to fire a custom event when the MouseEvent.CLICK event is fired and pass the parameter to it. Now I don't know if it is the right answer. What should I do and how?
