• Flex/AIR/HTML PDF scriptable viewer

  Hi all! I've written a PowerPoint-like application in Flash, and now our client would like to view the speaker notes (a PDF file) on a separate screen while using the application. What I would need is a separate application/html page which can show the PDF and programmatically change page when the master slide changes. Is this possible? If so, is it easiest to go with a html page + javascript or a Flex/AIR app? It needs to be done without changing the PDF's, since there are 600+ files that need to be viewable.

• acessing network shared folder with a username and password string in vb.net

  i am using the following code to read the details from a network folder which is restricted for only one user shell("net use q: \\serveryname\foldername /user:admin pwrd", AppWinStyle.Hide, True, 10000) Process.Start(path) shell("net use q: /delete") when i run this to open any pdf or jpg or any other files except word/excel/powerpoint, everything is working fine. but the problem comes only when i access a word file. in the step one, i am giving permission to access the word file. in the step two, word file is open. in the third, i am deleting the q drive. the problem is the word file is still open. so i am getting a dos window, saying that "some connections of still connected or searching some folders, do you want to force disconnect" please help.... how to access a word file (editable files) providing user name and password from the code and at the same time he shoud not have access to any other folders directly.

  Hello there, I have been programming 10 years, mostly in vba and vb.net but I know c# well enough to program what I normally do. I yesterday was applying for a Senior c# position and I did so poorly on the induction test its not funny :) I have always found that for me the best way to learn and recall is via question's and answers (multichoice and short answer). That is, a question is posed and after I answer instant feedback is given as to whether I choose right or wrong and the reasons why. As such I was wondering if anyone knew of or could recommend a C# quiz website. Something like a daily c# quiz to keep my brain up to date and fresh if I'm not always programming in it. Not something wimpy either. Something that does everything. Paying is not an obstacle, id prefer to pay for a good resource than muck around. Thank you

  I have 2 independent but contiguous date ranges. The first range is the start and end date for a project. Lets say start = 3/21/10 and end = 5/16/10. The second range is a month boundary (say 3/1/10 to 3/31/10, 4/1/10 to 4/30/10, etc.) I need to figure out how many days in each month fall into the first range. The answer to my example above is March = 10, April = 30, May = 16. I am trying to figure out an excel formula or VBA function that will give me this value. Any thoughts on an algorithm for this? I feel it should be rather easy but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a formula which will return TRUE/FALSE if ANY part of the month range is within the project start/end but not the number of days. That function is below. return month_start <= project_end And month_end >= project_start

• Is there a utility that will let me write to an Excel 2007 .xlsm file with macros enabled?

  I am writing a program that writes to Excel files. I am restricted to writing to Excel 2007, which is fine, and I'm using EPPlus, which is a great utility. The thing is that I need to have macros and VBA enabled for an update function in the sheet, but EPPlus will only write to .xlsx files, not macro-enabled .xlsm files. If I try to write to .xlsm files it won't open. Is there another code library that lets me accomplish what I need (again that's writing to Excell 2007 Macro-enabled workbooks)?

• Office Interop addins installer?

  I have three C# Solutions in Visual Stuido 2008, one each for Word, Excel and PowerPoint using interop to hook various events. In each Solution, I have exactly one class, the one created by default when using File - New - Project - Visual C# - Office - 2007. Now that I have my addins working properly, it's time to create an installer. I understand that I may also have to distribute the PIAs. I would like my installer to register itself such that it can be uninstalled via the normal Add/Remove Programs mechanism. My organization is somewhat standardized around WiX for creating installers, but I'm open to any suggestions. How do I produce an MSI or EXE capable of installing my addins? GUI/wizard for the installer is not necessary. I'm happy to RTFM - so far all the tutorials I've found only explain how to create the project and do some of the coding. Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms? Thanks in advance for any help!

  Some time ago I posted about a question about reading Excel files as a server process, to get around the tighter restrictions Microsoft have been applying on Office Automation. I now need to extend this, by finding methods/libraries to read other sorts of Office files in an automated way on a server. The applications I'm interested in are Word, Powerpoint, Project and to a lesser extent Word and Visio. I need to be able to support 97-2003 office files, and the newer open xml formats (e.g. xlsx, docx) at a very least. With regards to Word integration, I also need to be able to handle writing/reading RTF text. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be pleased to hear them. Thanks

• Improving the efficiency of Kinect for Windows DTWGestureRecognition Application

  Currently I am using the DTWGestureRecognition open source tool for Kinect SDK v1.5. I have recorded a few gestures and use them to navigate through Windows 7. I also have implemented voice control for simple things such as opening PowerPoint, Chrome, etc. My main issue is that the application uses quite a bit of my CPU power which causes it to become slow. During gestures and voice commands, the CPU usage sometimes spikes to 80-90%, which causes the application to be unresponsive for a few seconds. I am running it on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine with an i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. I was wondering if anyone with any experience using this tool or Kinect in general has made it more efficient and less performance hogging. Right now I removed sections which display the RGB video and the Depth video but even doing that did not make a big impact. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  I have learned programming on .NET. It's been 4 years since I have started (serious) programming, I gained experience in VBA, JavaScript but mainly C#. I have spent a lot of time trying to grasp the good coding practices, object orientation etc. Now finally I have a job. The job is fixing/upgrading an ERP on a daily basis. Creating reports and maybe sometimes new stuff. I have absolutely no experience in Delphi, and no motivation to learn it especially when people are moving to .NEt from Delphi not in the reverse direction sa my manager expects :) The question is that are there any tools that I write C# code and compile into this object pascal or whatever it is. • Determine if a specific activity in an application can be launched...

  Applications can have any number of launchable activities. I know how to get the list of these activities via PackageManager. Is there a way to determine which activities can be launched via startActivity? For example, the Documents To Go app has different activities that will start Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, etc... I am able to launch all o these just fine. However, it also contains some activities that I am not able to launch with startActivity... If I attempt to do this I get a SecurityException. I want to be able to determine which activities I can safely launch and which I cannot so I only present the user with a list of activities that I can safely launch from within my application... Is this possible?

  it seems i can't make work a connection to MySql using ODBC connector 5.2.6. In a 64 bit environment, in a VBA excel application, i use this string, but it not work: "Driver={MySQL ODBC 5.2 Driver}; Server=myserver;Database=mydb;User=readonly;Password=mypass;Option=3" I have also used Driver={MySQL ODBC 5.2w Driver} and Driver={MySQL ODBC 5.2a Driver} But the error is: ODBC driver unknow. Can someone help me ? Ps: it works with a DSN setted, but i would like to use a connection string so i don't go to each user computer and set a DSN. Thanks

• Set Pivot Items from Cell Range? Excel 2007

  I have developed code which identifies the multiple item selections from a Pivot field and writes the list of items to a table. I then wish to take this contents of the list and use it to populate a number of other Pivot Tables on other tabs. I currently have the ability to do this for single Pivot items selections, but I need to do this for multiple selections. If I select multiple items in the Pivot Table and attempt to pass these selections to the other Pivot Tables it creates an error because it sees only hte text "Multiple Items" instead of a list of each item that was checked in the upstream Pivot field. I need some VBA code that allows me to use the list to set another Pivot Field's selections. All the Pivot fields in question here are page fields. I am using Excel 2007. Any help is appreciated.   Hi, I'm quite confused with what are the necessary tools for VSTO develpment. Specifically I want to manipulate Excel 2003/2007 documents programmatically. I did quite a lot of VBA before, if you want to relate any answer to that. Few questions I have about VSTO: Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition C#/C++ for this? Do I need to have .NET framework installed? Does the resulting VSTO program need to have a copy of Office installed in the same system to run? Direct links to the relevant tools/plugins/IDE will be appreciated. Note: I'm totally new to VSTO and .NET but an Office power user. Have experience with COM programming. Thanks.

• Getting Excel add ins to modify array formula parameters; or perform 'ctrl-shift-enter'

  I am trying to make a C# Excel add in change the parameters of an array formula in-place; i.e. do the same as a user modifying an array formula and hitting ctrl-shift-enter. Setting the activeCell.FormulaArray property does not achieve this; it throws a 'You cannot change part of an array' error. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? A solution that also works in VBA would be brilliant. I've tried creating some logic that 'walks' to the perimeter of the array formula and deletes it first, but it doesn't account for adjacent array formulas and I believe this is unnecessarily drastic.

• How can I save all of the images in a Word 2007 document as separate files?

  How can I save all of the images/figures in a Word 2007 document as separate files? Right now I have to save each one separately. And I can't even save them from within Word -- I have to copy them to PowerPoint and then save them since there doesn't seem to be any way to save them from within Word. [Note that the trick shown at TechRepublic (http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/itdojo/?p=135) does not work. It doesn't work because all of my images are cropped and this trick produces uncropped images.]

• Growing MS Access File Size problem

  I have a large MS Access application with a lot of computations in VBA code. When I run it it eventually crashes due to excessive file size. There are a lot of intermediate tables and queries created and subsequently deleted, but Access does not reclaim the space. I have diligently closed all intermediate record sets and set all temporary objects to nothing, but nothing helps. The only way I can get my code to run is to run part of it, stop and repair/compress the file then restart the code. Isn't there a better way? Thanks

• MS Access - Keeping track (transacation) of all activity while form is open...

  Hi and thanks for reading. I am not a database/vba guy and my experience is strictly in the JAVA world. However, I need to have an ACCESS form open. While it is open and new data is entered into it (via the underlying query OR any other data changes in other tables based on sql updates attached to buttons on this form), is there a way that I can initiate a transaction so that at the bottom of the form I could have a button that says "Exit and committ changes" or "Cancel and Rollback changes". I guess I thought of a situation where I could do something like: On Form OPEN, START TRANSACTION On "CLICK OK", COMMIT TRANSACTION or ON "CLICK CANCEL" ROLLBACK. I'm aware how to do the Workspace.BeginTransaction but I'm not sure if that will apply if I do it on FORM OPEN and then on FORM CLOSE do the COMMIT/ROLLBACK locgin? Any insight would be great.

• Is Visual Studio Tools for Applications part of Office 2007?

  The VSTO bit I understand. Visual Studio has the project templates to get you started with creating nice .NET based add-ins. But where is VSTA? I installed the SDK but it seems to be gears towards adding extensibility to your own applications. I had thought that VSTA was like the new VBA for Office 2007. Infopath 2007 seems to be VSTA enabled but I cannot seem to find where Excel 2007 is also VSTA enabled. Am I missing something?

• "Use windows xp style dpi scaling" disables automatic auto-hide of taskbar on W7. Workaround?

  We noticed that on W7 with DPI set to 125% or to 100% with ("Use windows xp style dpi scaling") turned off, our fullscreen mode (which sets the client rect of our window = desktop rect of the main monitor) no longer hides the task bar like it does for other settings. (The setting can be found in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display section after clicking on the "Set custom text size (DPI)" link) I found the following interesting article: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908 So I set out to try to work around the bug in other means than manually hiding/restoring the taskbar visibility but so far I've failed and currently believe it's a bug in W7 (and possibly vista). The following applications also fail to work properly in fullscreen mode (the taskbar is still visible): * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 * Microsoft Word 2007 * Adobe Reader 9.1.3 These apps work (probably by hiding the task bar through the WIN32 API): * Powerpoint Slide Show I also tried creating a brand new MFC-based app and use its "SetFullScreenMode()" functionality but it fails in the same way as all other apps on the list. • Excel plugin: Finding a Chart's Source Data Number Format String

  I'm currently working on a plugin for excel (using VB.net--not VBA) that will attempt (among other things) to recognize the format of the source data of a chart and configure the chart's series' number format strings appropriately. That is, yearly data should always be two numbers, monthly data should always be a 3-letter month followed by a 2-digit year, etc. The goal is to have a uniform representation across all charts for monthly data, annual data, daily data, etc. My question is this: how do I find the number format string for the cells (or any cell that is part of that series, as I will be assuming all cells that make up a particular series have the same format) that represent the source data for the chart? Note: I can assume that the chart will always point to a range of cells (not, for example, an array of data).

• .Net - interop assemblies taking 15 seconds to load when being referenced in a function

  This is a C# console application. I have a function that does something like this: static void foo() { Application powerpointApp; Presentation presentation = null; powerpointApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.ApplicationClass(); } That's all it does. When it is called there is a fifteen second delay before the function gets hit. I added something like this: static void MyAssemblyLoadEventHandler(object sender, AssemblyLoadEventArgs args) { Console.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString() + " ASSEMBLY LOADED: " + args.LoadedAssembly.FullName); Console.WriteLine(); } This gets fired telling me that my interop assemblies have been loaded about 10 milliseconds before my foo function gets hit. What can I do about this? The program needs to call this function (and eventually do something else) once and then exit so I need for these assemblies to be cached or something. Ideas?
