• Problem removing US keyboard layout from input languages

  I'm working on English (UK) version of Windows 7, my second input language is Russian. Since installation of Windows I have removed US keyboard layout and set LEFT ALT+SHIFT as input switcher. Everything was fine until now. Recently I noticed that my switch combination does not always work. I opened language select bar and found there English (US) keyboard layout. I went to settings and found that in General Tab there is only two languages available, US was not listed. I decided to add US layout manually and remove it after. This operation went as expected, US layout disappeared from language bar. But after few hours it appeared again. I started "googling" and found that I'm not alone. On Microsoft forum I found suggestion to remove US layout as I did before and than copy all settings to all profiles. It's look like some service are adding US layout on it's own, but I have no idea which one. Does any one know how to fix this issue?

• VB.NET localization

  In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR, nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

• How can I sandbox Python in pure Python?

  I'm developing a web game in pure Python, and want some simple scripting available to allow for more dynamic game content. Game content can be added live by privileged users. It would be nice if the scripting language could be Python. However, it can't run with access to the environment the game runs on since a malicious user could wreak havoc which would be bad. Is it possible to run sandboxed Python in pure Python? If not, are there any open source script interpreters written in pure Python that I could use? The requirements are support for variables, basic conditionals and function calls (not definitions).

• Converting numbers to their language, how?

  Ok, I'm using mathematical equations to output numbers, though, I need this to be compatible for all languages. Currently, all language strings are within a php array called $txt, and each key of the array gets called for that language. I'm outputting the following: Column 1, Column 2, Column 3, and so on, as well as Row 1, Row 2, Row 3, and so on. The calculations are done via php and javascript, so I'm wondering on the best approach for how to support all languages for the numbers only. I don't do the translations, someone else does, but I need to be able to point it to, either the php variable $txt of where the language is defined, or, since the calculations are done via javascript also, I need to somehow store this in there.   I have several configuration files on Windows Server 2008 nested like such: C:\Projects\Project_1\project1.config C:\Projects\Project_2\project2.config In my configuration I need to do a string replace like such: <add key="Environment" value="Dev"/> will become: <add key="Environment" value="Demo"/> I thought about using batch scripting, but there was no good way to do this, and I heard that with PowerShell scripting you can easily perform this. I have found examples of find/replace, but I was hoping for a way that would traverse all folders within my C:\Projects directory and find any files that end with the '.config' extension. When it finds one, I want it to replace my string values. Any good resources to find out how to do this or any PowerShell gurus that can offer some insight?

• is there a Universal Model for languages?

  Many programming languages share generic and even fairly universal features. For example, if you compared Java, VB6, .NET, PHP, Python, then you would find common functions such as control structures, numeric and string manipulation, etc. What has been done to define these features at a meta-language (or language-agnostic) level? UML offers a descriptive reference of software in every aspect, but the real-world focus seems to be data processes. Is UML relevant? I'm not asking "Why we don't have a single language that replaces the current plethora." We need many different tools (at least in this eon). I'm not asking that all languages fit a template -- assembly vs. compiled languages are different enough to make that unfeasible (and some folks call HTML a language, though I wouldn't). Any attempt would start with a properly narrow scope. In line with this, I wouldn't expect the model to cover even a small selection with full validity. I would expect however that such a model could be used to transpose from one language to another (with limited goals -- think jist translation).

  hi everybody, i'm working on google maps in specifically on geometry controls the point is, in this example when I click in line or polygon infowindow show up, but the language is english (by default I think) can I change the language? in the tooltips i can replace the text, but in this particular case i have no place do replace it, this let me thinking that "language" is automatic, i'm wrong? best regards

It includes quite a few advances that have yet to be surpassed: the object database, the database viewer, the scripting environment, the hierarchical-including website generation scheme, the elegant scripting language, the mixing of scripts and compilation, rapid prototyping, built in web server, simple debugger, cross-platform, simple UI, etc. My question: Dave turned Frontier over to open source and there is a Frontier Kernel project. However it is fairly quiet. Does Frontier have a future from here?

  I just discovered Erubis, a replacement for the default view renderer for Ruby on Rails. However, from what I can tell from reading about it, it's superior across the board. It is much faster. It has many more options. It can prevent cross site scripting without having to use h. Does this have any disadvantages versus the standard erb renderer? Why isn't this the standard renderer packaged with Rails? Also, the docs for Erubis say to install it just by installing the gem, and then add the following to environment.rb: require 'erubis/helpers/rails_helper' #Erubis::Helpers::RailsHelper.engine_class = Erubis::Eruby # or Erubis::FastEruby Reading the docs, FastEruby seems to be just a faster renderer than Eruby. Why wouldn't it be default and used by everyone? I'm highly interested in using the engine erubis::EscapedEruby which automatically calls h to escape html on fields from the database. Are there any gotchas I should be aware of or does this pretty much solve all cross site scripting?

• Checking if parsed date is within a date range

  So I am using a scripting language with c++-like syntax, and I am trying to think of the best way to check if a date is within range. The problem I am running into is that if the current day is in a new month, the check is failing. Here is what my code looks like: if(iMonth >= iStartMonth && iMonth <= iEndMonth) { if(iDay >= iStartDay && iDay <= iEndDay) { if(iYear >= iStartYear && iYear <= iEndYear) { bEnabled = true; return; When I have something like this: Start date: 3 27 2010 End Date: 4 15 2010 Current Date: 3 31 2010 The day check fails because if (iDay <= iEndDay) does not pass. The scripting language doesn't have a lot of time related functions, and I can't compare timestamps because I'm allowing users to put like "03:27:2010" and "04:15:2010" as start/end dates in a config file. I'm assuming I am just not thinking straight and missing an easy fix.

  I have an Ubuntu 9.10 desktop machine which I use locally. I am setting up a server on a hosting provider. The server will run a very minimal version of Ubuntu server LTS (only LAMP and email server no GUI). I want to write a script (scheduled as a cron job) that will allow me to upload local files onto the server. I want to use [SFTP][1], for security reasons. I am new to shell scripting - but I guess shell scripting is the way to do this (unless I am mistaken).   Each programming language comes with its concepts, best practices, libraries, tools, community, in one word: culture. Learning more than one programming language will make you a better programmer, for the more concepts you learn, the faster you will feel comfortable when the next language or technology will come. Mine, so far, are C, some C++, and Python, and many times I read that it would be worth learning LISP, for "the profound enlightenment experience you will have when you finally get it" (quoting Eric Raymond). My questions are: Which is the next one you would consider a good investment to learn?   I'm developing a new language. My initial target was to compile to native x86 for the Windows platform, but now I am in doubt. I've seen some new languages target the JVM (most notable Scala and Clojure). Ofcourse it's not possible to port every language easily to the JVM; to do so may lead to small changes to the language and it's design. After posing this question, I even doubted more about this decision. I now know some "pro" JVM arguments. The original question was: is targetting the JVM a good idea, when creating a compiler for a new language? • Interpreted vs. Compiled Languages for Web Sites (PHP, ASP, Perl, Python, etc.)

  I build database-driven web sites. Previously I have used Perl or PHP with MySQL. Now I am starting a big new project, and I want to do it in the way that will result in the most responsive possible site. I have seen several pages here where questions about how to optimize PHP are criticized with various versions of "it's not worth going to great lengths to optimize PHP since it's an interpreted language and it won't make that much difference". I have also heard various discussions (especiallon on the SO podcast) about the benefits of compiled vs. interpreted languages, and it seems as though it would be in my interests to use a compiled language to serve up the site instead of an interpreted language. Is this even possible in a web context? If so, what would be a reasonable language choice? In addition to speed one benefit I forsee is the possiblity of finding bugs at compile time instead of having to debug the web site. Is this reasonable to expect?

• Distributing a custom command line tool to enterprise servers

  I've been tasked with building a command line tool that we will be providing to our enterprise customers so that they can use the API to upload data to our platform. The API works with standard cURL requests, so I can do most of the basic functionality with simple bash scripting, although I would like to provide something that is solid and really makes it easy for them to use and I don't know what I don't know. It's been a good 8 years since I've really done any serious sysadmin work. Most of the good tools I use these days are written in Ruby or Python and have a standard distribution process (Gems, for example). However, I know rhel and other platforms have their own package managers. Finally, the question: In today's day and age, what language / distribution method should I consider in order to cover the widest range of platforms without having to build completely different versions for each platform? I'd also love any general feedback you have about building similar projects, or links to projects that you think do a good job of this now and have open source code that I could read. • How do I rsync an entire folder based on the existence of a specific file type in that folder

  I have a server set up that receives movies to a folder. I then serve these movies using DLNA. But in the initial folder where they end up all kind of files end up. Pictures, music, documents etc. I thought I'd fix this by running the following script inside that folder rsync -rvt --include='*/' --include='*.avi' --include='*.mkv' --exclude='*' . ../Movies/ This works and scans the given folder and moves all the found movies of the given extension types to the Movies folder. But I wonder if there is anyway to tell rsync to if a folder if found that includes a movie of the given extension types, sync the entire folder. Including other files such as .srt. This is to make it easier for me to get subtitles moved along with the movie. I have a solution figured out via a script made in php (yea, I actually do most of my scripting in linux using php... just a habbit that stuck a long time ago). But if rsync can handle it from the start that would be super. Also, I have noticed that this line of rsync actually copies all the root folders in the given folder. If no movie is in the folder it will create an empty folder. How do I prevent rsync from doing this... and saving me the trouble of deleting all folder in Movies that are empty.

• How to script GPO in Windows computers without Active Directory?

  Does anyone know how to script GPO for users in a Windows computer that is not on any Active Directory network? I can't use GPMC because it doesn't work without a domain. I have been searching the net for the last couple of hours and all the solutions that I find are related to GPMC. I'd imagine there are some objects in the GPO that are accessible via WMI? Does anyone know anything about that? I was unable to find any information about that. Here is the situation I am trying to script: I have 10 users on the machine, and I want to restrict what they are able to do on the machine. So I created 10 GPOs for each one of them. Now I want to apply a common policy to all of them. The only way to do it is to go through each of the GPO and do it manually. This is too time consuming, therefore I am seeking for a simpler solution. I was unable to find a way to copy GPO from a user to a user. That would make it much easier, I would create a GPO for 1st user, then copy it over to all the other users, but no luck, couldn't find a way to copy GPOs. The other method I tried was creating a GPO for the whole user group but it turns out you can't apply GPO to a group unless you use GPMC, which I can't cause the computer is not on any domain. So I am thinking about scripting this whole process, but again I can't find any examples of how to access particular GPO objects for particular users and modify properties through WMI. Any suggestions on the issue I am having? Thanks!

• Preserving Language across inline Calculated Members in SSAS

  Problem: I need to retrieve the language of a given cell from the cube. The cell is defined by code-generated MDX, which can have an arbitrary level of indirection as far as calculated members and sets go (defined in the WITH clause). SSAS appears to ignore the Language of the specified members when you declare a calculated member inline in the query. Example: The cube's default locale is 1033 (en-US) The cube contains a Calculated Measure called [Net Pounds] which is defined as [Net Amt], language=2057 (en-GB) The query requests this measure alongside an inline calculated measure which is simply an alias to the [Net Pounds] When used directly, the measure is formatted in the en-GB locale, but when aliased, the measure falls back to using the cube default of en-US. Here's what the query looks like: WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Pounds Indirect] AS [Measures].[Net Pounds] SELECT { [Measures].[Pounds Indirect], [Measures].[Net Pounds] } ON AXIS (0) FROM [Cube] CELL PROPERTIES language, value, formatted_value The query returns the expected two cells, but only uses the [Net Pounds] locale when used directly. Is there an option or switch somewhere in SSAS that will allow locale information to be visible in calculated members? I realise that it is possible to declare the inline calculated member in a particular locale, but this would involve extracting the locale from the tuple first, which (since the cube's member is isolated in the application's query schema) is unknown.

• What AOP tools exist for doing aspect-oriented programming at the assembly language level against x8

  Looking for a tool I can use to do aspect-oriented programming at the assembly language level. For experimentation purposes, I would like the code weaver to operate native application level executable and dynamic link libraries. I have already done object-oriented AOP. I know assembly language for x86 and so forth. I would like to be able to do logging and other sorts of things using the familiar before/after/around constructs. I would like to be able to specify certain instructions or sequences/patterns of consecutive instructions as what to do a pointcut on since assembly/machine language is not exactly the most semantically rich computer language on the planet. If debugger and linker symbols are available, naturally, I would like to be able to use them to identify subroutines' entry points , branch/call/jump target addresses, symbolic data addresses, etc. I would like the ability to send notifications out to other diagnostic tools. Thus, support for sending data through connection-oriented sockets and datagrams is highly desirable. So is normal logging to files, UI, etc. This can be done using the action part of an aspect to make a function call, but then there are portability issues so the tool needs to support a flexible, well-abstracted logging/notifying mechanism with a clean, simple yet flexible. The goal is rapid-QA. The idea is to be able to share aspect source code braodly within communties as well as publicly. So, there needs to be a declarative security policy file that users can share. This insures that nothing untoward that is hidden directly or indirectly in an aspect source file slips by the execution manager. The policy file format needs to be simple to read, write, modify, understand, type-in, edit, and generate. Sort of like Java .policy files. Think the exact opposite of anything resembling XML Schema files and you get the idea. Is there such a tool in existence already?
