• Double default gateway ubuntu server

  I've just installed an Ubuntu server 9.10 on an EEEBox. This is my /etc/network/interfaces # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet static address 192.168.48.16 netmask 255.255.248.0 wireless-essid mynet auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address xx.xx.xx.xx netmask 255.255.255.224 gateway xx.xx.yy.yy When I restart /etc/init.d/networking, I can access the eth0 ip address from the internet and I can ping the machines in my wifi network mynet. Everything works fine and I have one default gateway. But after some time if I check again the route I just find two default gateways: one is correct and is the previous one, but the other is the one of the wifi network. I have a quite low signal of mynet where my server is and sometimes the wifi just disconnect and then reconnect again. Then I think that this can be a problem and the dhcp of the wifi net, when reconnecting it also add a default gateway. Any idea on how to resolve this issue?

I have the following motherboard Tyan Thunder K8WE S2895A2NRF Motherboard - extended ATX - nForce Pro 2200/2050 - Socket 940 - UDMA133, Serial ATA-300 (RAID) - 2 x Gigabit Ethernet - FireWire - 6-1 channel audio This is part of a computer that was assembled in the winter of 2006/2007. The user manual says the following with regard to SATA Integrated SATAII Generation 1 Controllers (from NForce Professional 2200) Two integrated dual port SATA II controllers Four SATA connectors support up to four drives 3 Gb/s per direction per channel NvRAID v2.0 support Supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and JBOD. I just purchased a SATA DVD burner. Here is the page for the product http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002QGDWLK/ The problem I am facing is that I already have 4 SATA drives installed. I don't want to remove any of them. However, I want the DVD burner above installed as well. The person I am consulting with here (Bombay, India) tells me that my four available SATA ports are filled, and that my only option is to install a SATA card into the one free PCI slot on the motherboard. However, he says that with this setup I will not be able to boot from the DVD drive. Are these statements correct, and what are my other options if any? Even it the statements in the last para are true, I suppose I could use one of the motherboard connectors/ports there are currently being used with the hard drives with the DVD drive, and use the "add-on" connector with one of the hard drives. Not all the 4 hard drives need to be bootable. BTW, despite having read through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Cables.2C_connectors.2C_and_ports I am fuzzy on the differences between connectors, cables and ports. Thanks in advance.

  I have an HDTV which supports internet connectivity through an ethernet port or wirelessly (but this requires an additional wireless USB adapter, which I don't have). I also have a blue ray player than supports internet connectivity through an ethernet port or wirelessly (natively - no other devices are needed). I want to connect my TV to the internet but my router is too far away. My blueray player however is already connected wirelessly. If I connected my TV to my Blueray player via ethernet, would my TV be able to connect to the internet? To clarify: Wireless Signal - Blue Ray Player - Ethernet Cable - TV Would this work?

• Ping: sendmsg: operation not permitted error after installing iptables on Arch GNU/Linux

  Yesterday I got a new computer as my homeserver, a HP Proliant Microserver. Installed Arch Linux on it, with kernel version 3.2.12. After installing iptables (1.4.12.2 - the current version afaik) and changing the net.ipv4.ip_forward key to 1, and enabling forwarding in the iptables configuration file (and rebooting), the system cannot use any of its network itnerfaces. Ping fails with Ping: sendmsg: operation not permitted If I remove iptables completely, networking is okay, but I need to share the Internet connection to the local network. eth0 - wan NIC integrated on the motherboard (no idea of vendor, probably HP). eth1 - lan NIC in a pci-express slot (Intel Gigabit CT Desktop http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/network-adapters/gigabit-network-adapters/gigabit-ct-desktop-adapter.html) Since it works without iptables(server can access the internet, and I can login with ssh from the internal network), I assume it has something to do with iptables. • MacBook's Airport not working from menu bar

  All of the sudden my MacBook doesn't connect to my wireless after waking from sleep. My network shows up at full signal strength and it remembers the password correctly, but I get an error message when I try to connect from the menu bar. The only way I can get on the internet is to go through Network Diagnostics and turn it on there. I don't understand why it works every time through Network Diagnostics and never on it's own or through the airport menu bar. Nothing has been changed or installed or reset on my computer that I know of. Restarting doesn't fix it, nor does turning off the airport card. Any ideas?

• DTS to AC3 conversion for LG TV using mediatomb DLNA server

  I want to convert a MKV video file containing DTS audio to a stream with AC3 audio. I want to pass this resulting stream to mediatomb's transcoding feature. Mediatomb will transfer the stream via DLNA to a LG TV, which does not support DTS audio. I have tried the VLC command below but the TV does not recognize the stream, and playing the destination stream on PC does not produce sound. vlc -vvv -I dummy INPUT.file --sout \ '#transcode{acodec=ac3,ab=256k,channels=2,threads=4} \ :std{mux=ts,access=file,dst=DEST.file}' The following ffmpeg command give a stream that plays on the TV with sound, but the ffmpeg process gets killed (with signal 15) within 10-15 seconds, and then the TV restarts the playback from the beginning. This goes on in loops. ffmpeg -i INPUT.file -acodec ac3 -ab 384k -vcodec copy \ -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb -f mpegts -y DEST.file I want to have a working DLNA server which transcodes DTS to AC3, any help is appreciated.

• DSL connection dropping when starting game

  New connection set up last week - have called tech support, signal fine, sending out tech guy tomorrow - however i cant make sense of this using Vista, 2wire connection 6mb ATT conn, wireless, i can browse website, stream video from my PC wirelessly to my xbox, watch Hulu in high res, connection seems fine I load up World of Warcraft, i select Enter World and without fail my 2wire modem 'DSL' light goes red, my internet light goes out, im no longer connected, then after 10 or 15 seconds it works again, but game has kicked me Noticed the same thing on opening or closing Utorrent as well No other phones/devices plugged into the phone jacks in the apartment - why would joining a game cause my DSL to drop? i can only guess it throws a bunch of information to the server when i hit 'enter world' and that causes an issue that shuts my connection down or my router hates me - all help appreciated

  The system of pc is win7 32bit, the video card is ATI 4670. The tv is philips 74xx series. And the monitor is Dell 19' that connect with pc via VGA. The tv can receive the singal and show the pictures when booting the pc(bios self checking, the logo of windows 7), however the tv says there is no signal after the win7 login window shows. I have installed the latest CCC and driver of ATI video card. Does anyone have idea for it?

  Lately I have been receiving a lot of segmentation fault warnings on my web-server. The warnings look like: [notice] child pid xxxx exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I have consulted with the server provider (it is a dedicated redhat enterprise server) and they could not find anything. What I have done so far: Since the error I have already tried the following: I have added more ram I have turned off / turned on several php modules (they sent me to a web-page someone had the same problem, caused by an excessive amount of php modules) At the moments the warnings occur, there seems to be plenty of free ram left and the number of processes is very low (the number of httpd processes is about a quarter of the maximum allowed). What can be causing these errors? Edit: current versions apache: 2.0.52 php: 5.2.8 RHEL 4 Edit 2: Although I asked this a long time ago, I never was able to solve it until I upgraded to php 5.3.

• Arbitrary Key Remapping on a Mac

  I bought a cheap Chinese replacement keyboard for my late 2007 MBP. The close square/curly bracket key actually sends a left control signal to the Mac. So I'm trying to remap my backslash/pipe key to be close square/curly bracket but I can't find the key remapping software to do it. Double Command and KeyRemap4Macbook can't do arbitrary key remaps and uControl/fkeys don't work on Snow Leopard. Anyone have ideas? I have no problem editing text config files if necessary.

• Cablemodem frequent connection loss

  I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 cablemodem and a WRT54GL router with Tomato 1.27 firmware on Cox cable. My question is this: I get what seems to be random disconnects from the internet, where the cable modem lights are still normal, but I can connect nowhere, either via a url or an ip address. At the same time these disconnects are happening, I can go to the router's Tomato management webpage, and release/renew my external IP address from Cox's DHCP server. I've had Cox look at the signal levels on the cable modem, and they say they look fine. What brings back the modem, for sometimes as long as 17 days, is several power-cycles of the modem. I don't understand the underlying cable modem technology too well, but I do know that if I'm able to release/renew the DHCP-provided WAN address, I'd expect that the cable modem was working ok... Anybody have any ideas??

  A lot of mobile phones can be setup to emit a reminder beep every few minutes if you have an unread SMS. So when you miss the receive signal of the sms (because you've been in the restroom) you'll hear a gentle beep every few minutes, so you know you received an sms while you've been busy. Is there a way to get this behaviour on windows mobile (6.5)? I found nothing to activate this in the menu, but maybe it's hidden somewhere. • I can't get router and switches configured properly for my home office network

  Networking Gurus, I recently built a new detached garage, with an office above. As such I had it tied into my existing home ethernet wiring. The ethernet signal is coming into the garage just fine, but I can not get my network configured the way I want because of problems trying to link the various router/switch devices. I'm not sure if I'm using incompatible switches or what, but I tried the future state with some 4 port switches from best buy and had no luck. I resorted to setting up the Current State so I could operate. What I am looking for is help on how best to get my future state to work. I had to shutdown it by holding the power button. then I started the machine again, and selected to boot suse. Then I saw the fancy boot animation(some shiny big dots gathering to the center of the screen), then the screen just turned black and the monitor sayed "no signal". then I tried to boot into suse failsafe mode, which was fine. how can I investigate into this problem?

QA and DEV environments are 2 instances on the same physical server: Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2, 32 GB RAM, 1 Quad 3.5 GHz Intel Xeon X5270 (4 cores x64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives Prod: Windows 2003 Datacenter SP2, 64 GB RAM, 4 Dual Core 1.6 GHz Intel Family 80000002, Model 6 Itanium (8 cores IA64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives, Veritas Cluster I am seeing excessive Signal Wait Percentages ( 250%) and Page Reads /s (50) and Page Writes /s (25) are both high occasionally. I did test this query on both QA and PROD and it has the same execution plan and even the same stats: SELECT top 40000000 * INTO dbo.tmp_tbl FROM dbo.tbl GO Scan count 1, logical reads 429564, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. As you can see it’s just logical reads, however: QA: 0:48 Prod: 2:18 So It seems like a processor related issue, however I’m not sure where to go next, any ideas? Thanks, Aaron

• Need help generating a core dump from apache segfault

  I have a script which intermittently returns a white screen of death in firefox and Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error. chrome. When I try to access the script using a PHP HTTP client (like Zend_Http_Client), intermittently I get an exception (sorry I don't have the exact message on me at the moment). I suspect a segfault. This is further buttressed by the lines in my error log that look like this: [Thu Mar 18 16:03:02 2010] [notice] child pid 845 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Now, I'm running RedHat, and I know that RedHat doesn't generate core dumps out-of-the-box. I followed the instructions here http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-5353, but I'm not seeing any core dumps. How do I generate a core dump?

• TvTuner as webcamera

  Hi, I have decent TVTuner which can capture both analog signal & HDMI. I am able to connect my camera and see output of it in realtime in VirtualDub. I want to be able to use it in Skype and other software which use webcams. The problem is that they only use first "videoinput" of my videodevice, but HDMI is 3rd, and there is no interface to switch (in Skype for example)... So could you suggest any "proxy" software which can take video from Tuner, and show as a webcam?

• Officially announced RAM support size doesn't apply to one of twin rigs with just one difference

  It'll take a little long to describe my situation but here goes the story : In January 2009 we bought (the OEM parts) two similar systems with just one difference. One of them had a Phenom X4 cpu and the other one (mine) a Phenom X3 cpu. At the beginning we had problems with both systems to power them on whilst having all of their ram slots being full. We decided to install the systems with just 2 slots populated and later try to install the rest of ram sticks. Both systems did succeed to support 3 sticks. We tried many different procedures to make the systems work with their fourth ram slots being populated. We waited for new bios updates and flashed the boards when they were available, we tried different ram sticks with different frequencies etc. One day while we were trying to install the fourth stick, the X4 machine did accept it. The other one did not. The most mind boggling thing was that after one of my trials the X3 system begun to not operate with the third slot populated. Our boards did have AMD 770 chipsets and we even tried to change the board of the X3 machine with another 770 chipset board. Now my questions are : Should we change the cpu ? What is causing the X3 system to not accept the fourth (or now the third) ram stick ? The manufacturers sites do claim that this boards do accept 4 ram sticks (but they only tested them with certain ram brands and models). What are the limitations for maximum ram configurations on motherboards ? Are there some "rules of thumb" except frequency, voltage, chip type considerations for which we did check our parts ? • Can I be a wireless server WITHOUT offering internet?

  I would like to pull into a truck stop and offer a folder of free documentaries to quell some of the ignorance LOL I run Linux ";-) Very happy to have made that switch by the way...and have an internal wireless in the laptop but my bus has an antenna on the roof which I connect via usb to create a wireless signal (this is the one I'd like to focus on since it will offer the most reach to all those truckers out there. My question is this. I'm running apache2 and have a bunch of videos tossed into the www folder and can access it locally and would like others that frown on paying to use the truckstops slow internet service and would like an alternative by simply logging onto me and getting the narrow content I offer freely without passwords and the like. Has anyone a good means of doing this? p.s. I've done this in the past but am getting old and forgetful (my crutch)

• Can I get 4 screens running on an ATI Radeon HD 5700 series video card?

  I have successfully run 3 displays using the 5700, but i want to run a 4th screen off the HDMI Port. Mainly I would like it to Mirror the primary monitor onto the TV connected to the HDMI Port. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I can get a signal to it, i just have to disable one of my original 3 monitors. Im not willing to do that. So other than disabling one of my monitors, does anyone have any suggestions?
