• Oracle Enterprise Manager Extensibility News - June 2014

  Introducing Extensibility Exchange Version 2 On the heals of Enterprise Manager 12c Release 4 this week comes version 2.0 of the Extensibility Exchange.  A new theme allows optimal viewing on a number of different computing devices from large monitor displays to tablets to smartphones.   One of the first things you'll notice is a scrollable banner with the latest news related to Enterprise Manager and extensibility.  Along with the "slider" and the latest entries from Oracle and the Partner community, new features like a tag cloud and an auto-complete search box provide a better way to find the plug-in, connector or other Enterprise Manager entity you are looking for.  Once you find it, a content details page with specific info related to that particular entity will enable you to access it at the provider's site and also rate and comment on that particular item. You can also send an email from the content details page which is routed to the developer.   And if you want to use version 1 of the Extensibility Exchange instead, you will be able to do so via the "Classic" option.  Check it out today at http://www.oracle.com/goto/emextensibility.   Coming off of OpenWorld and all the excitement around Oracle’s “Cloud” strategy, we thought we’d share what others had to say recently about Oracle’s financial solutions in and out of the cloud: Information Management, the educated reader’s choice for the latest news, commentary and feature content serving the information technology and business community, had an interesting blog post from Bill McNee of Saugatuck Technology, entitled, “A Bull Market for Finance Cloud Apps”. In the post, he highlights Oracle as one of the ‘significant players’ in the space… Oracle: As recently announced, Oracle is now aggressively marketing its Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud Service to midsize and large enterprise customers.   Today’s enterprises typically create identity management infrastructures using ad-hoc, multiple point solutions. Relying on point solutions introduces complexity and high cost of ownership leading many organizations to rethink this approach. • Price Drop for Processor based License on Exalytics

  ·       33% reduction in the list `per processor` license pricing for the Oracle BI Foundation Suite ·       New capacity-based licensing which allows customers to think big & start small, significantly lowering the entry price point for an Exalytics. Oracle BI Software List Price changes In response to new powerful platforms like the in-memory Oracle Exalytics with 40 cpu cores (counted under Oracle pricing policy as 20 “processors”), the list price of “Oracle BI Foundation Suite” (BIFS) is reduced by 33% from $450K per processor to $300K per processor. Capacity-based licensing on Exalytics (Trusted Partitions) “Capacity-based pricing” for the BIFS, Endeca, Essbase and Times Ten for Exalytics software is now available for Exalytics systems. This is delivered using “Oracle VM” (OVM).  We still ship a full Exalytics machine to all customers, but they may choose to only use and license a subset of the processors installed in the machine.   Customers can license Exalytics software in units of 5 “processors”: 5, 10, 15 or the full capacity 20.   As the customer’s implementation and workload increases, it is a simple matter to license additional processors and, using OVM, make them available to the BI or EPM application.   October  2012 OBIEE 11.1.1.6.5 Bundle Patch released Bundle patches are collection of controlled, well tested critical bug fixes for a specific product  which may include security contents and occasionally minor enhancements. These are cumulative in nature meaning the latest bundle patch in a particular series would include the contents of the previous bundle patches released.  A suite bundle patch is an aggregation of multiple product  bundle patches that are part of a product suite.   Recently I had an interview with dev team in a company. The team uses agile + TDD. The code exercise implements a video rental store which generates statement to calc total rental fee for each type of video (new release, children, etc) for a customer. The existing code use object like: Statement to generate statement and calc fee where big switch statement sits to use enum to determine how to calc rental fee customer holds a list of rentals movie base class and derived class for each type of movie (NEW, CHILDREN, ACTION, etc) The code originally doesn't compile as the owner was assumed to be hit by a bus. So here is what I did: outlined the improvement over object model to have better responsibility for each class. use strategy pattern to replace switch statement and weave them in config But the team says it's waste of time because there is no requirement for it and UAT test suite works and is the only guideline goes into architecture decision. The underlying story is just to get pricing feature out and not saying anything about how to do it. So the discussion is focused on why should time be spent on refactor the switch statement. In my understanding, agile methodology doesn't mean zero design upfront and such code smell should be avoided at the beginning. Also any unit/UAT test suite won't detect such code smell, otherwise sonar, findbugs won't exist. Here I want to ask: is there such a thing called agile design in the agile methodology? Just like agile documentation. how to define agile design upfront? how to know enough is enough? In my understanding, ballpark architecture and data contract among components should be defined before/when starting project, not the details. Am I right? anyone can explain what the team is really looking for in this kind of setup? is it design aspect or agile aspect? how to implement minimum viable product concept in the agile process in the real world project? Is it must that you feel embarrassed to be MVP?

• Strategy for versioning on a public repo

  Suppose I'm developing a (javascript) library which is hosted on a public repo (e.g. github). My aim in terms of how version numbers are assigned and incremented is to follow the guidelines of semantic versioning. Now, there's a number of files in my project which compose the actual lib and a number of files that 'support it', the latter being docs, a test suite, etc. My perspective this far has been that version numbers should only apply to the actual lib - not the project as a whole - since the lib alone is 'the unit' that defines the public API. However I'm not satisfied with this approach as, for example, a fix in the test suite constitutes an 'improvement' in my project, which will not be reflected in the version number (or the docs which contain a reference to it). On a more practical level, various tools, such as package managers, may (understandably) not play along with this strategy. For example, when trying to publish a change which is not reflected in the version number, npm publish fails with the suggestion "Bump the 'version' field set the --force flag, or npm unpublish". Am I doing it wrong?

  Our main focus with Q1 2010 SP1 release is the official launch of RadControls for Silverlight 4 RTW. Shortly after the official announcement on April 15th we delivered the natively built suite on Silverlight 4 to empower our clients with the advantages of the new capabilities for developing robust enterprise applications. The suite features support for both Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint 2010. With Q1 2010 SP1 we have delivered installations for both Silverlight 3 and Silverlight 4. Well keep the support for Silverlight 3 with full installations until the Q2 2010 release and after that will ship upgrades only with binaries. The binaries for Silverlight 3 will contain only major bug fixes but wont include new features. • Bypass DNSSEC for local Stub zones

  I am using bind 9.9.2 as a DNSSEC validating recursive resolver in an Internet DMZ. I want to point to my internal DNS servers as stub zones (ideally) or anything except slave zones (to avoid very large zone transfers). We use a routable ip space for our Internal addressing. Sorry if I am using an IP space that you own in my example, but 167.x.x.x is the first zone I found that fits my issue. E.G dnssec-enable yes; dnssec-validation yes; dnssec-accept-expired no; zone "16.172.in-addr.arpa" { type stub; masters { 167.255.1.53; } } zone "myzone.com" in { type stub; masters { 167.255.1.53; } } When queries hit the DNS server, they attempt at being validated, and fail because 167.in-addr.arpa HAS an RRSIG record, but sub zones do not (and should not!).
