  • Interface and partial classes

    - by Tomek Tarczynski
According to rule SA1201 in StyleCop elements in class must appear in correct order. The order is following: Fields Constructors Finalizers (Destructors) Delegates Events Enums Interfaces Properties Indexers Methods Structs Classes Everything is ok, except of Interfaces part, because Interface can contain mehtods, events, properties etc... If we want to be strict about this rule then we won't have all members of Interface in one place which is often very useful. According to StyleCop help this problem can be solved by spliting class into partial classes. Example: /// <summary> /// Represents a customer of the system. /// </summary> public partial class Customer { // Contains the main functionality of the class. } /// <content> /// Implements the ICollection class. /// </content> public partial class Customer : ICollection { public int Count { get { return this.count; } } public bool IsSynchronized { get { return false; } } public object SyncRoot { get { return null; } } public void CopyTo(Array array, int index) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } Are there any other good solutions to this problem?

  • Overridden button control escaping content. How to stop it?

    - by RemotecUk
Hi, I've got an ASP.Net button control that I have overridden to provide different functionality. the code looks as follows.. I'm overriding the Render method to surround the control with an <a>... /// <summary> /// Render Method /// </summary> /// <param name="writer"></param> protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { base.CssClass = "euva-button-decorated"; writer.Write("<a class=\"euva-button\">"); base.Render(writer); writer.Write("</a>"); } When I check the generated source on the page, I find that where ASP.Net has injected its click handler it does the following... <a class="euva-button"><input type="submit" name="TestButton" value="Test Button" onclick="clickOnce(this);WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;TestButton&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, false))" id="TestButton" class="euva-button-decorated" /></a> ... it seems to be escaping the output for the double quotes which means that the browser cannot understand the javascript. How do I make the render method not escape the injected ASP.Net client click handler ?? Note I also have my own client click handler which is declared declaratively in the page mark-up.

  • Random String Generator creates same string on multiple calls

    - by rockinthesixstring
    Hi there. I've build a random string generator but I'm having a problem whereby if I call the function multiple times say in a Page_Load method, the function returns the same string twice. here's the code ''' <summary>' ''' Generates a Random String' ''' </summary>' ''' <param name="n">number of characters the method should generate</param>' ''' <param name="UseSpecial">should the method include special characters? IE: # ,$, !, etc.</param>' ''' <param name="SpecialOnly">should the method include only the special characters and excludes alpha numeric</param>' ''' <returns>a random string n characters long</returns>' Public Function GenerateRandom(ByVal n As Integer, Optional ByVal UseSpecial As Boolean = True, Optional ByVal SpecialOnly As Boolean = False) As String Dim chars As String() ' a character array to use when generating a random string' Dim ichars As Integer = 74 'number of characters to use out of the chars string' Dim schars As Integer = 0 ' number of characters to skip out of the characters string' chars = { _ "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", _ "G", "H", "I", "J", "K", "L", _ "M", "N", "O", "P", "Q", "R", _ "S", "T", "U", "V", "W", "X", _ "Y", "Z", "0", "1", "2", "3", _ "4", "5", "6", "7", "8", "9", _ "a", "b", "c", "d", "e", "f", _ "g", "h", "i", "j", "k", "l", _ "m", "n", "o", "p", "q", "r", _ "s", "t", "u", "v", "w", "x", _ "y", "z", "!", "@", "#", "$", _ "%", "^", "&", "*", "(", ")", _ "-", "+"} If Not UseSpecial Then ichars = 62 ' only use the alpha numeric characters out of "char"' If SpecialOnly Then schars = 62 : ichars = 74 ' skip the alpha numeric characters out of "char"' Dim rnd As New Random() Dim random As String = String.Empty Dim i As Integer = 0 While i < n random += chars(rnd.[Next](schars, ichars)) System.Math.Max(System.Threading.Interlocked.Increment(i), i - 1) End While rnd = Nothing Return random End Function but if I call something like this Dim str1 As String = GenerateRandom(5) Dim str2 As String = GenerateRandom(5) the response will be something like this g*3Jq g*3Jq and the second time I call it, it will be 3QM0$ 3QM0$ What am I missing? I'd like every random string to be generated as unique.

  • c# web extracting programming, which libraries, examples samples please

    - by user287745
I have just started programming and have made a few small applications in C and C#. My understanding is that programming for web and thing related to web is nowadays a very easy task. Please note this is for personnel learning, not for rent a coder or any money making. An application which can run on any Windows platform even Windows 98. The application should start automatically at a scheduled time and do the following. Connect to a site which displays stock prices summary (high low current open). Capture the data (excluding the other things in the site.) And save it to disk (an SQL database) Please note:- Internet connection is assumed to be there always. Do not want to know how to make database schema or database. The stock exchange has no law prohibiting the use of the data provided on its site, but I do not want to mention the name in case I am wrong, but it's for personal private use only. The data of summary of pricing is arranged in a table such that when copied pasted to MS Excel it automatically forms a table. need steps guidance please, examples, lbraries

  • BindingList<T> and reflection!

    - by Aren B
Background Working in .NET 2.0 Here, reflecting lists in general. I was originally using t.IsAssignableFrom(typeof(IEnumerable)) to detect if a Property I was traversing supported the IEnumerable Interface. (And thus I could cast the object to it safely) However this code was not evaluating to True when the object is a BindingList<T>. Next I tried to use t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(IEnumerable)) and didn't have any luck either. Code /// <summary> /// Reflects an enumerable (not a list, bad name should be fixed later maybe?) /// </summary> /// <param name="o">The Object the property resides on.</param> /// <param name="p">The Property We're reflecting on</param> /// <param name="rla">The Attribute tagged to this property</param> public void ReflectList(object o, PropertyInfo p, ReflectedListAttribute rla) { Type t = p.PropertyType; //if (t.IsAssignableFrom(typeof(IEnumerable))) if (t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(IEnumerable))) { IEnumerable e = p.GetValue(o, null) as IEnumerable; int count = 0; if (e != null) { foreach (object lo in e) { if (count >= rla.MaxRows) break; ReflectObject(lo, count); count++; } } } } The Intent I want to basically tag lists i want to reflect through with the ReflectedListAttribute and call this function on the properties that has it. (Already Working) Once inside this function, given the object the property resides on, and the PropertyInfo related, get the value of the property, cast it to an IEnumerable (assuming it's possible) and then iterate through each child and call ReflectObject(...) on the child with the count variable.

  • A error about "Address 0x0 is not stack'd, malloc'd or (recently) free'd" in c program under linux

There is a piece of my program: height = atoi(argv[3]); width = atoi(argv[2]); sprintf(seqName,"%s", argv[1]); // strcpy(seqName, argv[1]); After compiling it, a exe file test is generated, then I use Valgrind to check it. • How to extract paragaph and selected lines with Perl

    - by neversaint
I have a text that looks like this. What I want to do is to extract the whole paragraph under the section "Aceview summary" until the line that starts with "Please quote". extract the line that starts with "The closest human gene". And store them into array with two elements. However I am stuck with the following script logic. What's the right way to achieve that? #!/usr/bin/perl -w my $INFILE_file_name = $file; # input file name open ( INFILE, '<', $INFILE_file_name ) or croak "$0 : failed to open input file $INFILE_file_name : $!\n"; my @allsum; while ( <INFILE> ) { chomp; my $line = $_; my @temp1 = (); if ( $line =~ /^ AceView summary/ ) { print "$line\n"; push @temp1, $line; } elsif( $line =~ /Please quote/) { push @allsum, [@temp1]; @temp1 = (); } } close ( INFILE ); # close input file

  • Confusion about WPF binding...

    - by Vladislav
    I am trying to bind a 2D array of buttons arranged in stackpanels to a 2D ObservableCollection... Yet, I'm afraid I don't understand something very elementary about binding. My XAML: <Window.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="ItemsAsButtons"> <Button Content="{Binding}" Height="100" Width="100"/> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="PanelOfPanels"> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Path=DayNumbers}" ItemTemplate=" {DynamicResource ItemsAsButtons}"> <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> </ItemsControl> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources> ... <ItemsControl x:Name="DaysPanel" Grid.ColumnSpan="7" Grid.Row="2" ItemTemplate="{DynamicResource PanelOfPanels}"/> My C# code: The backend: /// <summary> /// Window BE for Calendar.xaml /// </summary> public partial class Calendar : Window { private CalendarViewModel _vm; public Calendar() { InitializeComponent(); _vm = new CalendarViewModel(); this.DataContext = _vm; } } The ViewModel: class CalendarViewModel { CalendarMonth _displayedMonth; EventCalendar _calendar; public CalendarViewModel() { _displayedMonth = new CalendarMonth(); } public ObservableCollection<ObservableCollection<int>> DayNumbers { get { return _displayedMonth.DayNumbers; } } } I'm trying to populate the buttons with values from CalendarViewModel.DayNumbers - yet the buttons do not appear. I'm clearly doing something wrong with my binding.

  • What is the fastest collection in c# to implement a prioritizing queue?

    - by Nathan Smith
    I need to implement a queue for messages on a game server so it needs to as fast as possible. The queue will have a maxiumem size. I need to prioritize messages once the queue is full by working backwards and removing a lower priority message (if one exists) before adding the new message. The appliation is asynchronous so access to the queue needs to be locked. I'm currently implementing it using a LinkedList as the underlying storage but have concerns that searching and removing nodes will keep it locked for too long. Heres the basic code I have at the moment: public class ActionQueue { private LinkedList<ClientAction> _actions = new LinkedList<ClientAction>(); private int _maxSize; /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the ActionQueue class. /// </summary> public ActionQueue(int maxSize) { _maxSize = maxSize; } public int Count { get { return _actions.Count; } } public void Enqueue(ClientAction action) { lock (_actions) { if (Count < _maxSize) _actions.AddLast(action); else { LinkedListNode<ClientAction> node = _actions.Last; while (node != null) { if (node.Value.Priority < action.Priority) { _actions.Remove(node); _actions.AddLast(action); break; } } } } } public ClientAction Dequeue() { ClientAction action = null; lock (_actions) { action = _actions.First.Value; _actions.RemoveFirst(); } return action; } }

  • How can I place zeroes to the left of a given number to a maximum of 6 digits including the given nu

    - by Sergio Tapia
I have this method that receives an ID number and downloads an HTML website according to that ID. Typically, an IMDB link is like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0892791/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226229/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0000429/ They all follow the 'tt' then 7 digits, with lack of digits turning into zeroes to fill out the left spaces. How can I accomplish this using C#? I'm kind of stumped. Here's my method: /// <summary> /// Find a movie page using its precise IMDB id. /// </summary> /// <param name="id">IMDB Movie ID</param> /// <returns>Returns an HtmlDocument with the source code included.</returns> public HtmlDocument ByID(string id) { string url = String.Format("http://www.imdb.com/title/tt{0}/", id); HtmlDocument page = downloader.Load(url); return page; } Thank you very much for your time, and if you are interested in helping out, you can check out the complete source code of TheFreeIMDB here: http://thefreeimdb.codeplex.com/

  • vb.net documentation and exception question

    - by dcp
Let's say I have this sub in vb.net: ''' <summary> ''' Validates that <paramref name="value"/> is not <c>null</c>. ''' </summary> ''' ''' <param name="value">The object to validate.</param> ''' ''' <param name="name">The variable name of the object.</param> ''' ''' <exception cref="ArgumentNullException">If <paramref name="value"/> is <c>null</c>.</exception> Sub ValidateNotNull(ByVal value As Object, ByVal name As String) If value Is Nothing Then Throw New ArgumentNullException(name, String.Format("{0} cannot be null.", name)) End If End Sub My question is, is it proper to call this ValidateNotNull (which is what I would call it in C#) or should I stick with VB terminology and call it ValidateNotNothing instead? Also, in my exception, is it proper to say "cannot be null", or would it be better to say "cannot be Nothing"? I sort of like the way I have it, but since this is VB, maybe I should use Nothing. But since the exception itself is called ArgumentNullException, it feels weird to make the message say "cannot be Nothing". Anyway, I guess it's pretty nitkpicky, just wondered what you folks thought.

  • VS2010 : javascript intellisense : specifying properties for 'options' objects passed to methods

    - by Master Morality
Since javascript intellisense actually seems to work in VS2010, I thought I might add some to those scripts I include in almost everything. The trouble is, on some complex functions, I use option objects instead of passing umpteen different parameters, like so: function myFunc(options){ var myVar1 = options.myVar1, myVar2 = options.myVar2, myVar3 = options.myVar3; ... } the trouble I am running into is, there doesn't seem to be a way to specify what properties options needs to have. I've tried this: function myFunc(options){ ///<summary>my func does stuff...</summary> ///<param name="options"> ///myVar1 : the first var ///myVar2 : the second var ///myVar3 : the third var ///</param> var myVar1 = options.myVar1, myVar2 = options.myVar2, myVar3 = options.myVar3; ... } but the line breaks are removed and all the property comments run together, making them stupidly hard to read. I've tried the <para> tags, but to no avail. If anyone has any ideas on how I might achieve this, please let me know. -Brandon

  • C# How to perform a live xslt transformation on an in memory object?

    - by JL
I have a function that takes 2 parameters : 1 = XML file, 2 = XSLT file, then performs a transformation and returns the resulting HTML. Here is the function: /// <summary> /// Will apply an XSLT style to any XML file and return the rendered HTML. /// </summary> /// <param name="xmlFileName"> /// The file name of the XML document. /// </param> /// <param name="xslFileName"> /// The file name of the XSL document. /// </param> /// <returns> /// The rendered HTML. /// </returns> public string TransformXml(string xmlFileName, string xslFileName) { var xtr = new XmlTextReader(xmlFileName) { WhitespaceHandling = WhitespaceHandling.None }; var xd = new XmlDocument(); xd.Load(xtr); var xslt = new System.Xml.Xsl.XslCompiledTransform(); xslt.Load(xslFileName); var stm = new MemoryStream(); xslt.Transform(xd, null, stm); stm.Position = 1; var sr = new StreamReader(stm); xtr.Close(); return sr.ReadToEnd(); } I want to change the function not to accept a file for the XML, but instead just an object. The object is exactly compatible with the xslt, if it was serialized to file. But I don't want to have to serialize it to a file first. So to recap : keep the xslt coming from a file, but the xml input should an object I pass and would like to generate the xml from without any file system interaction.

  • Dependency Property ListBox

Somehow I am very confused with the Dependency Property concept, and I just wanted to see a working example for that.

  • .NET: How to know when serialization is completed?

    - by Ian Boyd
When I construct my control (which inherits DataGrid), I add specific rows and columns. This works great at design time. Unfortunately, at runtime I add my rows and columns in the same constructor, but then the DataGrid is serialized (after the constructor runs) adding more rows and columns. After serialization is complete, I need to clear everything and re-initialize the rows and columns. Is there a protected method that I can override to know when the control is done serializing? Of course, I'd prefer to not have to do the work in the constructor, throw it away, and do it again after (potential) serialization. Is there a preferred event that is the equivalent of "set yourself up now", so that it is called once whether I'm serialized or not? The serialization i speak of comes from the InitializeComponent() method in the form's code-behind file. #region Windows Form Designer generated code /// <summary> /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify /// the contents of this method with the code editor. /// </summary> private void InitializeComponent() { ... } It would have been perfect if InitializeComponent was a virtual method defined by Control, then i could just override it and then perform my processing after i call base: protected override void InitializeComponent() { base.InitializeComponent(); InitializeMe(); } But it's not an ancestor method, it's declared only in the code-behind file. i notice that InitializeComponent calls SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout on various Controls. i thought it could override ResumeLayout, and perform my initialization then: public override void ResumeLayout() { base.ResumeLayout(); InitializeMe(); } But ResumeLayout is not virtual, so that's out. Anymore ideas? i can't be the first person to create a custom control.

  • Login with Kohana auth module - what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to login with the following controller action, but my login attempt keeps failing (I get the 'invalid username and/or password' message). What am I doing wrong? I also tried the other method given in the examples in the auth documentation, Auth::instance()->login($user->username, $form->password);, but I get the same result. • using EventToCommand & PassEventArgsToCommand :: how to get sender, or better metaphor?

    - by JoeBrockhaus
The point of what I'm doing is that there are a lot of things that need to happen in the viewmodel, but when the view has been loaded, not on constructor. I could wire up event handlers and send messages, but that just seems kinda sloppy to me. I'm implementing a base view and base viewmodel where this logic is contained so all my views get it by default, hopefully. Perhaps I can't even get what I'm wanting: the sender. I just figured this is what RoutedEventArgs.OriginalSource was supposed to be? [Edit] In the meantime, I've hooked up an EventHandler in the xaml.cs, and sure enough, OriginalSource is null there as well. So I guess really I need to know if it's possible to get a reference to the view/sender in the Command as well? [/Edit] My implementation requires that a helper class to my viewmodels which is responsible for creating 'windows' knows of the 'host' control that all the windows get added to. i'm open to suggestions for accomplishing this outside the scope of using eventtocommand. :) (the code for Unloaded is the same) #region ViewLoadedCommand private RelayCommand<RoutedEventArgs> _viewLoadedCommand = null; /// <summary> /// Command to handle the control's Loaded event. /// </summary> public RelayCommand<RoutedEventArgs> ViewLoadedCommand { get { // lazy-instantiate the RelayCommand on first usage if (_viewLoadedCommand == null) { _viewLoadedCommand = new RelayCommand<RoutedEventArgs>( e => this.OnViewLoadedCommand(e)); } return _viewLoadedCommand; } } #endregion ViewLoadedCommand #region View EventHandlers protected virtual void OnViewLoadedCommand(RoutedEventArgs e) { EventHandler handler = ViewLoaded; if (handler != null) { handler(this, e); } } #endregion

  • ASP.NET auto-generate aspx.designer.cs turn off?

    - by Joris
Hey all, As I'm working on a asp.net/c# project, I'm confronted with the foobar.aspx.designer.cs that auto generates it's content. eg, when I'm changing the code/designer, the designer.cs automatically updates it's content. As I'm bit of a control-dude, I'd like to maintain the code myself. I'm not happy with the overkill of comments I don't need. Like: /// <summary> /// Form1 control. /// </summary> /// <remarks> /// Auto-generated field. /// To modify move field declaration from designer file to code-behind file. /// </remarks> protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm Form1; While I'd like to see the following: protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm Form1; protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button Button3; etc, etc (don't mind the naming, ofcourse I'd give it some distinguishing nameing) How to fix this? I checked google on this one, but couldn't find an answer so quickly...

  • What's wrong with this iCalendar event?

    - by rihallix
I'm generating iCalendar events using PHP. They pass the validation checkers but won't add to Google Calendar or iCalendar. Help - what am I doing wrong? When I attempt to import I get "iCal can't read this calendar file. No events have been added to your calendar. Google just appears to import the calendar but it's not there. BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-//Foobar Name//NONSGML Foobar Name//EN BEGIN:VEVENT UID:20111129T103025-268Z@foobar DTSTAMP:20111210T103025Z DTSTART:20111210T210000Z DTEND:20111210T230000Z TRANSP: TRANSPARENT SUMMARY:Foobar - Book Fair - text DESCRIPTION: Foobar: Book Fair - text END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR Should I addslashes or not write colons in my summary or description text? Here are the headers I'm writing out... header("Content-Type: text/Calendar"); header('Content-Disposition: inline; filename="calendar.ics"'); echo "BEGIN:VCALENDAR</br>"; echo "VERSION:2.0</br>"; echo "PRODID:-//$orgname//NONSGML $orgname//EN</br>"; echo "METHOD:REQUEST</p>"; // required by Outlook The file I'm generating has the extension .php (not .ics). Thanks for any insight into what I might be doing wrong. rihallix (PHP5.2 / Windows)

  • C# class design - expose variables for reading but not setting

    - by James Brauman
I have a a polygon class which stores a list of Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Vector2 as the vertices of the polygon. Once the polygon is created, I'd like other classes to be able to read the position of the vertices, but not change them. I am currently exposing the vertices through this field: /// <summary> /// Gets the vertices stored for this polygon. /// </summary> public List<Vector2> Vertices { get { return _vertices; } } List<Vector2> _vertices; However you can change any vertex using code like: Polygon1.Vertices[0] = new Vector2(0, 0); or Polygon1.Vertices[0].X = 0; How can I limit other classes to be able to only read the properties of these vertices, and not be able to set a new one to my List? The only thing I can think of is to pass a copy to classes that request it. Note that Vector2 is a struct that is part of the XNA framework and I cannot change it. Thanks.

  • ASP.Net MVC: Showing the same data using different layouts...

    - by vdh_ant
Hi guys I'm wanting to create a page that allows the users to select how they would like to view their data - i.e. summary (which supports grouping), grid (which supports grouping), table (which supports grouping), map, time line, xml, json etc. Now each layout would probably have different use a different view model, which inherit from a common base class/view model. The reason being that each layout needs the object structure that it deals with to be different (some need hierarchical others a flatter structure). Each layout would call the same repository method and each layout would support the same functionality, i.e. searching and filtering (hence these controls would be shared between layouts). The main exception to this would be sorting which only grid and table views would need to support. Now my question is given this what do people think is the best approach. Using DisplayFor to handle the rendering of the different types? Also how do I work this with the actions... I would imagine that I would use the one action, and pass in the layout types, but then how does this support the grouping required for the summary, grid and table views. Do i treat each grouping as just a layout type Also how would this work from a URL point of view - what do people think is the template to support this layout functionality Cheers Anthony

  • ProtoInclude for fields ?

    - by Big
I have a simple object [ProtoContract] public class DataChangedEventArgs<T> : EventArgs { private readonly object key; private readonly T data; private readonly DataChangeType changeType; ///<summary> /// Key to identify the data item ///</summary> public object Key { get { return key; } } [ProtoMember(2, IsRequired = true)] public T Data { get { return data; } } [ProtoMember(3, IsRequired = true)] public DataChangeType ChangeType { get { return changeType; } } and I have a problem with the key. Its type is object, but it can be either int, long or string. I would intuitively use a ProtoInclude attribute to say "expect these types" but unfortunately they are class only attribute. Does anybody has any idea how I could work around this ? For background, the public object Key is here for historical reasons (and all over the place) so I would very much like to avoid the mother of all refactorings ;-) Any chance I could get this to Serialize, even force it to Serialize as a string ?
