  • mCrypt not present after Ubuntu upgrade to 13.10

    After I have upgraded my system from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 several problems have occurred with apache, mysql and php configurations. I solved most of them but I can't seem to get mCrypt library working. Package is installed so i don't need to apt-get it. Server works and everything seems fine, but when I try to run php artisan serve with Laravel 4, I get a message that mCrypt is required. I did php --ri mcrypt and the output was Extension 'mcrypt' not present. I have tried putting extension=mcrypt.so to /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini but it didn't worked. Any ideas?

    My company have develop a web application using php + mysql. The system can display a product's original price and discount price to the user. If you haven't logined, you get the original price, if you loginned , you get the discount price. It is pretty easy to understand. But my company want more features in the system, it want to display different prices base on different user. For example, user A is a golden parnter, he can get 50% off. User B is a silver parnter, only have 30 % off. But this logic is not prepare in the original system, so I need to add some attribute in the database, at least a user type in this example. Is there any recommendation on how to merge current database to my new version of database. Also, all the data should preserver, and the server should works 24/7. (within stop the database) Is it possible to do so? Also , any recommend for future maintaince advice? Thz u.

    I’m faced with a challenge of leading two (currently) separate .NET development groups with different development strategies. One group is developing on the .NET Framework 2.0 (with maybe a few applications on 3.5). The other group immediately adopts any new framework that comes out, and begins coding any new applications with it (they are running 2.0-4.0 applications). For this last group, applications written in an earlier version than the latest framework do not get upgraded. What is the current school of thought when it comes to a company developing web applications on when to adopt a new framework, and whether to migrate applications built on previous versions to the latest framework or not? Years ago the thought was to wait until the technology became mainstream - but that doesn't seem to apply much now with .NET.

    I just upgraded from rails 2.3.5 to rails 2.3.8, but now my redirects are not working properly. I get the following as the response HTTP Headers: HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily Date: Wed, 02 Jun 2010 09:40:39 GMT Content-Length: 93 Content-Type: text/html whereas I got previous: HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily Connection: close Date: Wed, 02 Jun 2010 09:41:18 GMT Set-Cookie: _session_id=<correct id>; path=/ Status: 302 Found Location: <correct url> Cache-Control: no-cache Server: Mongrel 1.1.5 Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 93 Anyone knows how to fix this? Despite the fact that the redirect is not working, the login-cookie is not set too (but I think, this is both related somehow). I have already tried to override redirect_to in order to set response.headers['Location'] etc., but they did not appear in the response.

  • Upgrading VSTO project to .net 4 - What references do I actually need?

    I'm developing an application for Office. It originally targeted .net 3.5, but I decided to upgrade to .net 4 because of some WPF issues that I've run into. When I switched all the projects in my solution and rebuilt, I got an error saying to include System.Xaml. I did that and rebuilt, and VS2010 told me to include another reference, so I did. This happened a couple more times, and finally it asked me to include Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.v9.0, and when I did I got this error: Microsoft.Office.Tools.CustomTaskPaneCollection exists in both Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.v9.0.dll and Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.dll I have both Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common.v9.0 and Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common referenced in my project, but the problem is that if I remove either, I get an error. Am I doing something wrong? Is it odd that I would need both references? I find it strange that CustomTaskPaneCollection would be defined in two different binaries. If I remove Microsoft.Office.Tools.Common, the error that I get is "Cannot find the interop type that matches the embedded interop type 'Microsoft.Office.Tools.IAddInExtension'. Are you missing an assembly reference?"

  • Update SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008: Benefits please?

    Hi there I'm looking for the benefits of upgrading from SQL Server 2000 to 2008. I was wondering: What database features can we leverage with 2008 that we can't now? What new TSQL features can we look forward to using? What performance benefits can we expect to see? What else will make management go for it? And the converse: What problems can we expect to encounter? What other problems have people found when migrating? Why fix something that isn't (technically) broken? We work in a Java shop, so any .NET / CLR stuff won't rock our world. We also use Eclipse as our main development so any integration with Visual Studio won't be a plus. We do use SQL Server Management Studio however. Some background: Our main database machine is a 32bit Dell Intel Xeon MP CPU 2.0GHz, 40MB of RAM with Physical Address Extension running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. We will not be changing our hardware. Our databases in total are under a TB with some having more than 200 tables. But they are busy and during busy times we see 60-80% CPU utilisation. Apart form the fact that SQL Server 2000 is coming close to end of life, why should we upgrade? Any and all contributions are appreciated!

  • Is there a IDE/compiler PC benchmark I can use to compare my PCs performance?

    I'm looking for a benchmark (and results on other PCs) which would give me an idea of the development performance gain I could get by upgrading my PC, also the benchmark could be used to justify the upgrade to my boss. I use Visual Studio 2008 for my development, so I'd like to get an idea of by what factor the build times would be improved, and also it would be good if the benchmark could incorporate IDE performance (i.e. when editing, using intellisense, opening code files etc) into its result. I currently have an AMD 3800x2, with 2GB RAM on Vista 32. For example, I'd like to know what kind of performance gain I'd see in Visual Studio 2008 with a Q6600, 4GB RAM on Vista 64. And also with other processors, and other RAM sizes... also see whether hard disk performance is a big factor. EDIT: I mentioned Vista 64 because I'm aware that Vista 32 can only use 3GB RAM maximum. So I'd presume that wanting to use more RAM would require Vista 64, but perhaps it could still be slower overall there is a large overhead in using the 32 bit VS 2008 on 64 bit OS.

The simplest way to upgrade is to create a new ASP.NET MVC 3 project and copy all the views, controllers, code, and content files from the existing MVC 2 project to the new project and then to update the assembly references in the new project to match the old project. If you have made changes to the Web.config file in the MVC 2 project, you must also merge those changes with the Web.config file in the MVC 3 project. To manually upgrade an existing ASP.NET MVC 2 application to version 3, do the following: 1. In both Web.config files in the MVC 3 project, globally search and replace the MVC version. NHibernate that was used was pretty old ( 1.0.2.0), so we decided to upgrade to ( 2.1.2) for the new features. HBM files are generated through custom template with MyGeneration. Everything went quite smoothly, except for one thing. Lets say we have to objects Blog and Post. Blog can have many posts, so Post will have many-to-one relationship. Due to the way that this application operates, relationship is done not through primary keys, but through Blog.Reference column. And as i understand, new NHibernate tries only to retrieve by Blog.Id. How to solve this? I cannot change DB design, nor can i assign an Id to BlogEntity, as objects are out of my control (they come prefilled as generic "ojbects" like this from external source)

  • Upgrading from MVC 1.0 to MVC2 in Visual Studio 2010 and VS2008.

    With MVC2 officially released, I was involved in a few conversations regarding the feasibility of upgrading existing MVC 1.0 projects to quickly leverage the newly introduced MVC features. Luckily, Microsoft has proactively addressed this question for both Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 and many online resources discussing the upgrade process are a "Bing/Google Search" away. As I will happen to be speaking about MVC2 and Visual Studio 2010 at the Ft Lauderdale ArcSig .Net User Group Meeting on April 20th 2010 (Check http://www.fladotnet.com for more info.), I decided to include a quick demo on upgrading the NerdDinner project (which I consider the "Hello MVC World" project) from MVC 1.0 to MVC2 using Visual studio 2010 to demonstrate how simple the upgrade process is. In the next few lines, I will be briefly touching on upgrading to MVC2 for Visual Studio 2008 then discussing, in more detail, the upgrade process using Visual Studio 2010 while highlighting the advantage of its multi-targeting support. Using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 For upgrading to MVC2 Using VS2008 SP1, a Microsoft White Paper [1] presents two approaches:  1- Using a provided automated upgrade tool, 2-Manually upgrading the project. I personally prefer using the automated tool although it comes with an "AS IS" disclaimer. For those brave souls, or those who end up with no luck using the tool, detailed manual upgrade steps are also provided as a second option. Backing up the project in question is a must regardless of which route one would take to upgrade. Using Visual Studio 2010 Life is much easier for developers who already adopted Visual Studio 2010. Simply opening the MVC 1.0 solution file brings up the upgrade wizard as shown in figures 1, 2, 3 and 4. As we proceed with the upgrade process, the wizard requests confirmation on whether we choose to upgrade our target framework version to .Net 4.0 or keep the existing .Net 3.5 (Figure 5). VS2010 does a good job with multi-targeting where we can still develop .Net 3.5 applications while leveraging all the new bells and whistles that VS2010 brings to the table (Multi-targeting enables us to develop with as early as .Net 2.0 in VS2010) Figure 1 - Open Solution File Using VS2010   Figure 2 - VS2010 Conversion Wizard Figure 3- Ready To Convert To VS2010 Confirmation Screen Figure 4 - VS2010 Solution Conversion Progress Figure 5 - Confirm Target Framework Upgrade In an attempt to make my demonstration realistic, I decided to opt to keep the project targeted to the .Net 3.5 Framework.  After the successful completion of the conversion process,  a quick sanity check revealed that the NerdDinner project is still targeted to the .Net 3.5 framework as shown in figure 6. Inspecting the Web.Config revealed that the MVC DLL version our code compiles against has been successfully upgraded to 2.0 (Figure 7) and hence we should now be able to leverage the newly introduced features in MVC2 and VS2010 with no effort or time invested on modifying existing code. The multi-targeting feature in Visual Studio 2010 enables us to adopt this latest and greatest development tool while supporting development in as early as .Net 2.0. References 1.   • Upgrading Sharepoint MOSS 2007 Farm to Sharepoint 2010 "waiting to get a lock to upgrade the farm"

    My first inplace upgrade of a MOSS 2007 farm to sharepoint went pretty smooth. I read the preupgrade documentation and was comfortable with the steps.  Since it was a fairly new installation of Moss changes were minimal and I wasn't anticipating too many problems The one issue I got was after installing the software on all of the farm.  I went to the first machine which ran Sharepoint 2010 central administration and ran the Sharepoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard.  I received the message that I would need to run the configuration on each server in the farm.  Fair enough, I expected as much. The wizard completed without issue on the first server, but when I tried to run it on the others it hung with a "waiting to get a lock to upgrade the farm" message.  It hung for about 10 minutes and then the wizard failed.  Did a few searches on Google and Bing and got 0 results for that message.  None, Nothing, Zilch.  I'm on my own... For grins, hit the help button on the configuration wizard and it seemed to indicate that the configuration wizard needed to be run on all farm servers simultaneously.  I started it again on the first server to the point I got the message about needing to be run on all servers on the farm and then started the wizard on the other servers and ran it to that point as well.  I then clicked ok on the first server and then the subsuquent servers. It took a while and it did hang on the lock message for some time, but then it did kick off and completed succesfully on all of them.  Yeah! Hope this helps someone else!  Now there should be at least one post with this error message on it!

    One of the most arduous processes  in DB maintenance is upgrading Databases across major versions, especially for complex RAC Clusters.With the release of Database Plug-in  (12.1.0.5.0), EM12c Rel 3 (12.1.0.3.0)  now supports automated upgrading of RAC Clusters in addition to Standalone Databases. This automation includes: Upgrade of the complete Cluster across the nodes. ( Example: 11.1.0.7 CRS, ASM, RAC DB  ->   11.2.0.4 or 12.1.0.1 GI, RAC DB)  Best practices in tune with your operations, where you can automate upgrade in steps: Step 1: Upgrade the Clusterware to Grid Infrastructure (Allowing you to wait, test and then move to DBs). Step 2: Upgrade RAC DBs either separately or in group (Mass upgrade of RAC DB's in the cluster). Standard pre-requisite checks like Cluster Verification Utility (CVU) and RAC checks Division of Upgrade process into Non-downtime activities (like laying down the new Oracle Homes (OH), running checks) to Downtime Activities (like Upgrading Clusterware to GI, Upgrading RAC) there by lowering the downtime required. Ability to configure Back up and Restore options as a part of this upgrade process. You can choose to : a. Take Backup via this process (either Guaranteed Restore Point (GRP) or RMAN) b. Set the procedure to pause just before the upgrade step to allow you to take a custom backup c. Ignore backup completely, if there are external mechanisms already in place.  High Level Steps: Select the Procedure "Upgrade Database" from Database Provisioning Home page. Choose the Target Type for upgrade and the Destination version Pick and choose the Cluster, it picks up the complete topology since the clusterware/GI isn't upgraded already Select the Gold Image of the destination version for deploying both the GI and RAC OHs Specify new OH patch, credentials, choose the Restore and Backup options, if required provide additional pre and post scripts Set the Break points in the procedure execution to isolate Downtime activities Submit and track the procedure's execution status.  The animation below captures the steps in the wizard.  For step by step process and to understand the support matrix check this documentation link.   • upgrading .NET application from MapPoint 2004 to 2009...

    I am in the process of upgrading a Visual Studio 2005 .NET (C#) application from it's integration with MapPoint 2004 to supporting MapPoint 2009. After a bit of searching and fiddling, I've generated new DLLs using "tldimp" and "aximp" and now have Interop.MapPoint.dll and AxInterop.MapPoint.dll and the namespaces seem to line up to the previous ones, so all the object definitions are available. However, I have lots of errors telling me that various properties do not exist, even though I go into the Object Browser, and they do seem to exist. Here is an example (there are dozens of similar errors)... axMappointControl1.ActiveMap.Altitude = 1000; That object initializes fine, as a MapPoint.Map object, which when I browse to in the Object Browser, I go to MapPoint and Map and under Map there are no properties but when I look deeper there is _Map80 and _Map90 and EACH of these has an Altitude property. Under Map it also lists "Base Types", which has _Map in it which also has all the referenced properties! Yet, I am getting the error: "MapPoint.Map' does not contain a definition for 'Altitude' Pretty much all the properties of both MapPoint.Map and MapPoint.Toolbars are doing this. Any ideas?   • emacs23 pops up debugger way too frequently

    Since I've upgraded to Ubuntu lucid and emacs23, Emacs pops up the debugger in situations, where emacs22 does not. For example, when hitting C-c C-c in org-mode, emacs22 simply states can do nothing useful at this location, whereas in emacs23 the debugger shows up. Debugger entered--Lisp error: (error "C-c C-c can do nothing useful at this location") signal(error ("C-c C-c can do nothing useful at this location")) error("C-c C-c can do nothing useful at this location") org-ctrl-c-ctrl-c(nil) call-interactively(org-ctrl-c-ctrl-c nil nil) That only illustrates the pattern -- the behavior is not limited to org-mode. Occurring every 3 minutes, it really annoys me. How can I prevent it? I've already tried to stop this using debug-on-error and stack-trace-on-error: it didn't work.

    I have a solution with several Silverlight Class Libraries and a Silverlight Application in it. I was originally built in VS 2008 with Silverlight 3.0. What changes do I need to make so that it builds using Silverlight 4.0? I already have VS 2010 and the Silverlight 4.0 toolkit installed. When I opened the project it seems to have upgraded to .NET 4.0 in my ASP.NET Web Project but not the Silverlight projects. Pretty sure they are still building against .NET 3.5 and Silverlight 3.0.     Background info: I'm using GIT to get a repository of a project with Ruby files in it. The project lives in my SITES folder under home directory on my Mac. I have Ruby: 1.8.7 I have just upgraded Rails to: 3.0.3 All I am trying to accomplish is to be able to render localhost.com:3000 in my browser of the GIT project i've already downloaded so I can work on it locally.
