  • What's the best way to run Wordpress on the same domain as a Rails application?

    I've got a standard Rails app with Nginx and Mongrel running at http://mydomain. I need to run a Wordpress blog at http://mydomain.com/blog. My preference would be to host the blog in Apache running on either the same server or a separate box but I don't want the user to see a different server in the URL. Is that possible and if not, what would you recommend to accomplish the goal?

  • Work @ Java shop. Tasked to redo intranet. I only know PHP - CTO says use that; Ops Says no - we have JSP, use that - Thoughts?

    So I work as a project manager and was given the opportunity to redo the intranet and Internet site... I'd love to , great addition to my resume. However.... I am not familiar with java nor JSP... I am fairly proficient with PHP and MySQL ... Also my intention was to use a CMS that I have experience with, wordpress, drupal or joomla... The site would be very simple so I was thinking wordpress would be fine for this. I told management that I would need it to run on PHP and they gave me their blessing... Now the disconnect bw it and management ... I spoke with ops and they told me that we have java and JSP for that purpose although the IT guy did say "oh but I do know that php and mysql are gaining popularity" That said ... I do not understand much as far as systems architecture... We do self host and run websphere with IIS and jboss with tomcat. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks ! Is my request that unfeasible?

  • Why does one column seem to load first in Wordpress?

    I have a Wordpress site that is doing something very bizarre. If you go to: http://digitaldemo.net/joy/krippen-a-b-c/ When it loads, the main content div loads on the right hand side of the page and then once the sidebar loads, THEN it gets pushed over to where it ought to be. It's only really noticable in Firefox, but I'd like to find out what is causing it and fix the issue. Any ideas? Many thanks!

  • Play sound on menu items on hover [migrated]

    How can I go about making a sound clip play when an element is hovered over? I'm using the latest Wordpress, and the parent theme I am using gives me an option to paste scripts which it will embed to the <head> section. Is there a script which I can just add to my <head> that will play the sound when the cursor moves over my menu item class .menu li? I spent several hours trying to figure this out the other day with no avail.     I'm running WordPress 2.9.1 from a Mac running 10.6.3. WordPress is installed to the /Library/WebServer/Documents folder. WordPress has a feature called AutoUpdate. Clicking an autoupdate button will download and install updated versions of the WordPress software, or third-party plugin tools. It's a convenient way to keep things up to date. WordPress uses FTP to download the files. I've enabled FTP and set up a user account and opened the requisite ports in my firewall for FTP traffic. This doesn't seem to be enough for my self-hosted installation, though. I'm sure this feature was originally designed for someone who has access to a remote shared webserver, and that it's merely a configuration challenge related to the FTP setup. I feel that if I can adjust the initial directory that the FTP service presents to the AutoUpdate feature, everything else will work properly. So, my question is, how do I adjust what folder is presented when a given user connects to a Mac running 10.6.3 via FTP?

  • Apache Getting Bogged Down By Certain Script (Wp-Cron.php) - How To Kill Process Automatically

    I have a server that is running a number of wordpress blogs, and a number of them have several hundred/thousand posts. Every couple of days, the server slows to a crawl due to a file being run on Wordpress called WP-cron.php. My entire apache process log turns into this : http:// imgur.com/A7K9k.png Times that by quite a bit. And server no go. Each process takes up about 1.1% of ram. And when we have 50 of them on the go. It gets insane. Not all of them are coming from the same blog, they are pretty widespread. In the Apache process page of WHM, they are usually ALL set to the status of "C", which means closing. But they can sit there until they crash the server, and they still hold the memory. Just google "wp-cron.php load" and you will find plenty of people with similar issues. In anycase, we have think it is down to users adding a tonne of dead "pinglists" to their wordpress installation. Which in turn wordpress loops through them endlessly. Problem number 1. Does anyone have any other suggestions about what would cause the Wordpress file wp-cron.php to loop endlessly. I still think it is down to pings, because all of the people we have contacted about their account load going sky high, have had massive ping lists. Problem number 2. Even if it is down to excessive pinglists in wordpress. We cannot be babying every single account on the server waiting for it to start spawning the wp-cron processes. It often happens overnight, and I start getting SMS alerts at 2am about the load. I have CSF installed, which apparently would have ended the processes if they ran over XXX time. But I have been told that it won't catch the processes because they end up in this state of "closing" (They show up as "C" on the Apache page of WHM). Apparently CSF will only kill processes that are "running" which C does not count. I have seen various other scripts such as : http://dltj.org/article/die-apache-die/ . I took a look at the stat of /proc. But I was boggled at which delimited part was the time running. And if there was any way I could connect it back to an actual Apache process, so that I could see what file was running (So only close connections connected to wp-cron.php, with a state of "C"). Overall I know Problem 2 glosses over the real reason. But I do put the whole thing to excessive pinglists in Wordpress. But I just cannot sit there and babysit every single installation 24/7. So I need a way to save the server when I am not available. Any help would be much appreciated.

I created a new user and I wish each user is the owner of the site folder /var/www/site.one so I chown -R kossel:kossel site.one my problem is, my wordpress only work if I chmod 644 wp-config.php, which all can read wordpress site suggest that file should be 640. and my question is: when someone open mydomain.com, wordpress has to access wp-config.php file, but which user is it actually using to "read" that file? root? user kossel? anyone else? how can I properly give it permission or owner??

  • Juju stuck in "pending" state when using LXC

    So I'm trying to get started with Juju, and tried to do this locally using LXC. I followed the instructions here: How do I configure juju for local usage?   • How can I loop through posts as well as child pages to display them all by date in Wordpress 2.9

    Some background info -- In wordpress I have my portfolio as a parent page with each item of work a child page. I also have a blog. I want to display the most recent 6 items on the homepage whether they are from my portfolio or my blog. I have a loop that displays the posts and on another page I have a loop that displays the child pages of a specific parent page. I only need to display the_title and the_post_thumbnail. Is it possible to loop through both the posts and the child pages and display them in order of date (recent first). So the final display would be a mixture of posts and child pages. Could it be done by having a separate loop for pages and one for posts, then somehow adding the results to an array and then pull them out in date order (recent first). Any help would be greatful.     Hey all, Quick question about Wordpress PHP: I am writing a theme and I want to display (on the main index page) one icon if my post has one tag, and another if it has the other.   • Is there a way to list all the database queries my wordpress install is making for a given event?

    Using a method similar to the one described here: (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14873/how-do-i-display-database-query-statistics-on-wordpress-site), I can see the total number of queries being made when I load a page. Now I'd like to output a list of the queries that are being made when the page loads. This would allow me to see who my biggest resource hogs are without having to go through the process of elimination of all my plugins and theme scripts. How would I do this? Thanks.

  • LAMP Stack with APC installed - WordPress Site - Is WP opcode being cached with APC?

    I have a LAMP stack with APC installed. I have a WordPress site on this server. Is WP taking advantage of the opcode caching? I have done no WP configurations. My understanding is that simply having APC installed means that all PHP code is being cached. If that is untrue, please point me to the direction where I can configure WP to take advantage of APC. Note: I thought about this as a ServerFault question, but since the solution to is code related I posted on Stackoverflow.
