• Pull image of rendered HTML from a specific browser

  I am working on an app that will be able to pull an image of rendered HTML from a specific browser. I would like the user to be able to select a specific browser to render an HTML file in, and capture the rendered output in an image file. I am starting with IE8, and I'm not sure where to begin to get the actual rendered output. I can easily open the file in that browser with Process.Start(), but I don't know how to return the rendered output. I have looked a little bit at sinking events, but I don't understand how that works or if that's the right way to go. I would just like some direction, and perhaps some resources to send me on the right path.

• Explorer.exe does not starts itself at the startup

  The problem I am facing is whenever I start my PC after use login window where it should show the start screen my PC just doesn’t show anything except for a mouse cursor. I can press CTRL ALT DELETE and go into task manager go into File Run New Task and then run explorer.exe sometimes this works and start screen becmoes accesible but sometimes I have to repeat it multiple times to make it work or sometimes I just have to restart my PC. More over while on the black screen and being able to access task manager If I right click processes there and open containing folder that also work I can access all my program/files from there but all that is missing is my desktop and start screen Can anybody help me with this? Plus can anybody tell like for explorer there is explorer.exe is there a .exe file which would start the start screen ?

• POST XML to server, receive PDF

  Similar to this question, we are developing a Web app where the client clicks a button to receive a PDF from the server. Right now we're using the .ajax() method with jQuery to POST the data the backend needs to generate the PDF (we're sending XML) when the button is pressed, and then the backend is generating the PDF entirely in-memory and sending it back as application/pdf in the HTTP response. One answer to that question requires the server-side save the PDF to disk so it can give back a URL for the client to GET. But I don't want the backend caching content at all. The other answer suggests the use of a jQuery plugin, but when you look at its code, it's actually generating a form element and then submitting the form. That method will not work for us since we are sending XML data in the body of the HTTP request. Is there a way to have the browser open up the PDF without caching the PDF server-side, and without requiring us to throw out our send-data-to-the-server-using-XML solution? (I'd like the browser to behave like it does when a form element is submitted -- a POST is made and then the browser looks at the Content-type header to determine what to do next, like load the PDF in the browser window, a la Safari)

• win7: app crashing/hanging on "save as"-dialog

  hi all, now this is really annoying - i'm having a global problem in win7: when using the system's "save as"-filedialog, the main app will just hang. the mouse-cursor is showing progress, the whole app is hanging and i need to terminate it manually. it's happening with every app! (notepad, word, graphics app). i'm assuming it's something with the system enumerating the harddisk-drivenames or something. any idea how to fix this? btw - when viewing the problem details - it's telling the module - it's msonsext.dll looks like some office thing to me. thanks

• How does the event dispatch thread work?

  With the help of people on stackoverflow I was able to get the following working code of the simples GUI countdown (it just displays a window counting down seconds). My main problem with this code is the invokeLater stuff. As far as I understand the invokeLater send a task to the event dispatching thread (EDT) and then the EDT execute this task whenever it "can" (whatever it means). Is it right? To my understanding the code works like that: In the main method we use invokeLater to show the window (showGUI method). In other words, the code displaying the window will be executed in the EDT. In the main method we also start the counter and the counter (by construction) is executed in another thread (so it is not in the event dispatching thread). Right? The counter is executed in a separate thread and periodically it calls updateGUI. The updateGUI is supposed to update GUI. And GUI is working in the EDT. So, updateGUI should also be executed in the EDT. It is why the code for the updateGUI is inclosed in the invokeLater. Is it right? What is not clear to me is why we call the counter from the EDT. Anyway it is not executed in the EDT. It starts immediately a new thread and the counter is executed there. • Form submit capture into database not working

• How many instructions to access pointer in C?

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out how many clock cycles or total instructions it takes to access a pointer in C. I dont think I know how to figure out for example, p-x = d-a + f-b i would assume two loads per pointer, just guessing that there would be a load for the pointer, and a load for the value. So in this operations, the pointer resolution would be a much larger factor than the actual addition, as far as trying to speed this code up, right? This may depend on the compiler and architecture implemented, but am I on the right track? I have seen some code where each value used in say, 3 additions, came from a f2->sum = p1->p2->p3->x + p1->p2->p3->a + p1->p2->p3->m type of structure, and I am trying to define how bad this is

Is there a better way to do this?

  I use Device Emulator Manager to fire up my Windows Mobile 5 Emulator. I then right click on the device (in the Device Emulator Manager list) and select cradle. ActiveSync then ties to connect. After a few seconds I get this message: Then if I open up the connection options and press connect: Then it works just fine. So, my question is, how can I get it to connect every time. Right as I cradle. I do this enough times that it is annoying to have the extra step. Has anyone ever been able to figure this out? (Does anyone have this problem too?) It appears to be possible with triggers in WPF but we don't have triggers in Silverlight. I tried a TemplatedParent binding but I'm not sure what the TemplatedParent is in this case. We don't have RelativeSource ancestor in Silverlight either. • Has anyone experienced "Screen Painting" issues with RealVNC?

  I've just setup remote access to a Windows XP box using RealVNC. When the user runs an app, they expierence issues with "screen painting" - the screen doesn't paint well, except for a radius around the mouse cursor. The app is displaying a calendar. I am not sure what it is written in (think it is a .NET app) Have no problems getting/staying connected. Initially it seemed to be working fine. I have looked through all of the settings as far as compression and speed. I can replicate the issue from more than 1 location. The hosting Internet connection is DSL.

• Need help with video streaming with web-embedded Windows Media Player Component

  Hello, I need to be able to play a .wmv video in a Windows Media Player component on a web page starting at a particular specified point in the video right away. I can embed the component and play the video. The problem is that even if I specify the location with The PARAM “currentPosition”, the video starts to play from the beginning. This appears to be because the requested position in the video has not been loaded yet. If I wait until the video has been loaded to the requested position and refresh the page, it will then play from the requested position. It seems that the video must start loading from the requested position in order to start right away. If this is the correct way, how would I go about doing it? If it is not, what is the proper way to do it? It can obviously be done, because YouTube’s players work like this. Thank you,

  Are there any shortcuts to delete just one row (which is NOT a table row, just a single row in a text) in Microsoft Office Word 2010? If not, how can I assign one to do it? In worst case, can I make a macro (in VB) which could do the same with a custom shortcut? To clarify my problem: I would like to avoid multiple clicks and/or pushing multiple buttons, even if I click in the middle of the line of text. :) For example, in Notepad++ I can delete the entire current line with Ctrl+L, in NetBeans, I can delete an entire line with Ctrl+E, in Eclipse, I can delete current line with Ctrl+D, etc., where it doesn't really matter where my mouse cursor is actually... so there are these simple solutions, which I look for in Word too. It really would simplify my work in huge documents.

• UIAlertView choice causing resignFirstResponder to fail

  Hi everyone. I'm having a similar issue to Anthony Chan's question, and after trying every suggested solution, I'm still stuck. Somehow, only after interacting with my UIAlertView, I'm unable to dismiss the keyboard in another view of my app. It's as though the Alert is breaking my UITextField's ability to resignFirstResponder. Below I instantiate my UIAlertView, which then calls its didDismissWIthButtonIndex method. Then, I call the showInfo method, which loads another UIViewController. The interesting part is that if I comment out the [self showInfo:nil] call made when the button is clicked and call it by clicking a test button (outside the alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex: method), everything works fine. • iPhone: detect "touch-and-drag" gesture from UIBarButtonItem?

  I have an "add" button that's represented by a UIBarButtonItem. Hitting the "add" button adds an object into a list that represents a moment in time. By default, that time is "now"...but I'd like to be able to use dragging behavior to let the user specify earlier times for the object. Here's the behavior I want to implement: If the user touches on the UIBarButtonItem and lets go quickly, an object is added to the list that represents "now." If the user touches on the UIBarButtonItem and drags, a little UI pops up that shows the time that the distance of their drag represents. The further they drag, the further back in time their touch will represent. When they let go, the object representing an earlier time will get added to the list. (Though the description of the behavior is complicated, I'm convinced this will be pretty intuitive for users of the app.) I haven't implemented code for anything but the most simple touches in the past, and I'm at a loss as to the best way to try this. Does anyone have any suggestions, or could point me towards some sample code that implements something like this? Thanks very much.

The data is sent in PDU format - I am required to change ASCII characters to 7 bit GSM alphabet characters. To do this I've come across several examples, such as http://www.dreamfabric.com/sms/hello.html This example shows Rightmost bits of the second septet, being inserted into the first septect, to create an octect. Bitwise shifts do not cause this to happen, as will insert to the left, and << to the right. As I understand it, I need some kind of bitwise rotate to create this - can anyone tell me how to move bits from the right handside and insert them on the left? Thanks,

  im all new to framework. so the structure of code igniter looks like: system system/application the system folder is code igniter's base folder right? so if they in the future releases a new version i just put application in the new system folder and its upgraded right? does this mean that i shouldn't put new files and so on in the system folder? cause some code could be used for other applications and i want to put them under the current application im developing, not inside the application folder. i want my application's classes to extend my base system's classes which in turn extend code igniter's base system class. so there are 3 levels. so how could i accomplish this? where to put the system level between CI and my application?

  We are attempting to convert a flash frame into a JPEG without using the Flex SDK or other adobe tools. Right now, we have a flash file that passes binary data over to a .cfm page, which uses the following code to change the headers: <cfset var = GetHttpRequestData()> <cfcontent type="image/jpeg"> <cfheader name="Content-Disposition" value="attachment; filename=#url.name#"> <cfoutput>#var.content#</cfoutput> This code is producing some strange results. Basically, it renders as an image, and I can "right click - Set as desktop background", but I cannot save the image any other way, as it simply saves the contents of the HTML Source. • cancelPreviousPerformRequestWithTarget is not canceling my previously delayed thread started with pe

  Hello, I've launched a delayed thread using performSelector but the user still has the ability to hit the back button on the current view causing dealloc to be called. When this happens my thread still seems to be called which causes my app to crash because the properties that thread is trying to write to have been released. To solve this I am trying to call cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget to cancel the previous request but it doesn't seem to be working. Below are some code snippets. - (void) viewDidLoad { [self performSelector:@selector(myStopUpdatingLocation) withObject:nil afterDelay:6]; } (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(myStopUpdatingLocation) object:nil]; } Am I doing something incorrect here? The method myStopUpdatingLocation is defined in the same class that I'm calling the perform requests. A little more background. The function that I'm trying to implement is to find a users location, search google for some locations around that location and display several annotations on the map. On viewDidLoad I start updating the location with CLLocationManager. I've build in a timeout after 6 seconds if I don't get my desired accuracy within the timeout and I'm using a performSelector to do this. What can happen is the user clicks the back button in the view and this thread will still execute even though all my properties have been released causing a crash. Thanks in advance! James
