• Is it safe to disable nmi_watchdog?

  I'm using RHEL 6 (kernel 2.6.32-131) and I'm trying to start oprofile, but I keep getting an error. My oprofile version is 0.9.6-12. I was able to successfully do opcontrol --init But when I did a opcontrol --start --no-vmlinux I got the error Using default event: CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:100000:0:1:1 Error: counter 0 not available nmi_watchdog using this resource ? Try: opcontrol --deinit echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog I don't know if it's safe for me to do this? For what I googled, it seems that nmi_watchdog is used to reboot the system if it hangs, and that sounds like something I want. Also, grep NMI /proc/interrupts shows a bunch of numbers, which I guess indicates that nmi_watchdog is already running? How can I run both oprofile and nmi_watchdog?

  I am trying to setup openldap on ubuntu 12.04 by following this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/openldap-server.html When I tried to enable TLS on the server by creating a self signed crtificate as decribed in the guide above, I got the following error command that I ran ldapmodify -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f /etc/ssl/certinfo.ldif Content of ldif file dn: cn=config add: olcTLSCACertificateFile olcTLSCACertificateFile: /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem - add: olcTLSCertificateFile olcTLSCertificateFile: /etc/ssl/certs/ldap01_slapd_cert.pem - add: olcTLSCertificateKeyFile olcTLSCertificateKeyFile: /etc/ssl/private/ldap01_slapd_key.pem Error Message ldap_modify: Inappropriate matching (18) additional info: modify/add: olcTLSCertificateFile: no equality matching rule After hours of searching on google, I have not found anything that tells much about this error. Does anyone have any more information on this?

• Recovering Ubuntu 9.10 /Windows 7 dual boot with Wubi

  I had installed Ubuntu 9.10 /Windows 7 dual boot with Wubi. I had no issues for about 9 months, and then after having to do a force reboot after ubuntu got hunng, and never goes past boot-up. On boot up, and selecting ubuntu, I get this error message: One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted: /: waiting for /dev/loop0 /tmp: waiting for (null) Press ESC to enter a recovery shell When I enter the recovery shell, I get this error message: General error mounting filesystem A maintainance shell will be started The maintenace shell does start- and I am able to access files. However, X-server does not work, so gedit, and similar applications does not work. I have done chkdsk on Windows, and this didnt solve nmy problem. From what I have been reading online,I have seen quite a few posts advising against wubi ubuntu installation, and generally to the effect that 'do a clean install' I found that the person on this thread has faced an identical issue, but he had to do a re-install http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1051277.html Can I make my ubuntu box work right, as it was before? :-)

• OCS 2007: Issues with /LiveServer/MCUFactory

  I'm not really an Office Communications Server expert, but just trying to resolve some seemingly minor issues with a new install... The following error is occurring in the OCS event log, and when I try to visit https://servername:444/LiveServer/MCUFactory in Internet Explorer to test the address, I just get a "page cannot be displayed" error. I can telnet to port 444 on the server and verify that the port is open and listening. Any ideas? • Saving a modified InfoPath form to its form library

  Within our corporate SharePoint 2007 site, there is a particular form library that contains 10 separate files. 9 of these are either Excel, Word, or PowerPoint files and one of these is an InfoPath 2007 form that serves as a report. After noticing an error within this InfoPath form, I saved this InfoPath form to my local directory and then, within the design mode of InfoPath, I modified this InfoPath form. What is the proper way to save this modified InfoPath form to its form library? Everything that I have tried results in nobody except myself having access to this modified InfoPath form. I can open this InfoPath form without error but when my coworkers try to open this InfoPath form on their machines, they receive this error: “The form cannot be opened because it requires the domain permission level and it currently has restricted permission. To fix this problem, open the form from the location it was published to."

• Debian Squeeze Upgrade Breaks Apache SSL

  I upgraded my Debian from Lenny to Squeeze. BIG MISTAKE. Now I get: [Tue Feb 08 16:34:57 2011] [error] Server should be SSL-aware but has no certificate configured [Hint: SSLCertificateFile] ((null):0) littered throughout /var/log/apache2/error.log. How to fix? Looking through a mess of forums it is easy to see that Apache changed the way it reads configurations around 2.2.13. Great. But not great for me or the millions of other web administrators who now have web servers that simply won't start, and an error message that says NOTHING about the problem or how to fix. Anybody else actually solved this issue? I had perfectly working virtual servers with SSL before (for years actually).

• Bioshock2 installer is not running under windows 7 64bit

  When I try to install the Bioshock2 game under windows 7 64-bit i get the following error- "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." I try to run it in compatibility mode (as XP and admin) I get the same error. I don't understand why it is giving me this error because if it is 32bit program then it should just run like other 32 bit application I have. And I am sure Bioshock2 is not a 16bit game. What can I do to run this program? It ran on Windows XP in the past.

  I am receiving an error when sending a https post message to my server and I am looking to get more information. I am looking for ssl error log in apache but I cannot find it. I have looked in /usr/local/apache/logs/secure and I don't see the proper error. Should I be looking in a different place? UPDATE: Fyi, the connection is timing out or being lost when I use https and I am trying to figure out why. When I use http it works fine.

  We're trying to setup an SSL server in front of a Weblogic server using Apache as the SSL provider. Here's what's inside of our httpd.conf: <Location /original> SetHandler weblogic-handler WebLogicHost 10.11.1.1 WebLogicPort 8700 PathTrim /original PathPrepend /destination ConnectTimeoutSecs 60 </Location> <Location /destination> SetHandler weblogic-handler WebLogicHost 10.11.1.1 WebLogicPort 8700 ConnectTimeoutSecs 60 </Location> This setup works mostly, but in the ssl_error_log file there're these entries: [Wed Aug 11 14:59:00 2010] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] ap_proxy: trying GET /original at backend host '10.11.1.1/8700; got exception 'CONNECTION_REFUSED [os error=0, line 1739 of ../nsapi/URL.cpp]: Error connecting to host 10.11.1.1:8700' The weird thing is, the redirection still works, but these annoying entries still shows up. Anyone can point out where did we go wrong? Thanks.

• Cannot add VMDK to VM that was cloned with FlexClone

  I have a virtual machine called VM-A with two VMDK's on volume VOL-A. Call these VMDK-1 (system) and VMDK-2 (data). I want to clone VMDK-2 and attach that clone to VM-A as a new disk, but I'm getting an error. Here are my steps: I use the following command to clone : clone start /vol/VOL-A/VMDK-2 /vol/VOL-A/VMDK-3 Run clone status which shows successful and I can see the new file in the volume In vCenter I edit the settings of VM-A and try to add VMDK-3, but get the following error: Failed to add disk scsi0:4, Failed to power on scsi0:4 I've tried adding this cloned disk to other VMs and get the same error. What could be the issue? My specs are below. NetApp FAS 2040 Data ONTAP 8.0.1 vSphere ESXi 4.1 vCenter Server 4.1 Thanks, Daniel

• rsync ssh not working in crontab after reboot

  I was using a script to perform rsync in sudo crontab. The script does a 2-way rsync (from serverA to serverB and reverse). the rsync uses ssh to connect between servers. After i reboot both the server machines, the rsync is not working in sudo crontab. I also setup a new cronjob and it fails, The error is: rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at io.c(600) [sender=3.0.6] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver] However, when run from terminal, the rync script works as expected without issues. please help. looks like issue with ssh. however, i am able to ssh into either servers withoiut issues.

  The vital stats: Mythbuntu 10.10 (maverick) XBMC 11 -- from team-xbmc maverick ppa Mythtv 0.23.1+fix (the standard version for mythbuntu 10.10) Mythbox version 1.1.0 OK, so, I was happily going along running XBMC 10.1 on my HTPC setup, and I saw everyone was all excited about XBMC 11, and it was available from the PPA. Now, when I go into mythbox and select a recording, it shows me the following error message box: Error: oninit cannot import name decodeLongLong This only seems to affect its ability to show a thumbnail picture for the recording. When I start playing the recording, everything pretty much goes fine. What does this error message mean? Is there any way I can fix it? Is there a library I am missing or something?

  having a problem installing git on redhat enterprise 3. When I try and install the rpm it gives a circular dependency problem. • nginx symlinks permission denied / 403 Forbidden on Mac OSX

  So I have an nginx server running on Mac OSX and I am trying to create a symlink in my nginx www directory from somewhere else. In the browser I get the wonderful 403 Forbidden error. I have also tried chmod'ing my life away for the past few hours. There doesn't seem to be anything on the stack about it. One thing concerns me is that I am not sure if symlinks are directly supported by ngninx on Mac. Trying to use disable_symlink directive results in: nginx: [emerg] unknown directive "disable_symlinks" in /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf:44` Some info about my setup: nginx -v : nginx version: nginx/1.4.2 To create the symlink I do the following: cd /Users/levi/www ln -s "/Users/levi/Desktop/.../client" "/Users/levi/www/client" The error in the log: [error] 11864#0: *7 open() "/Users/levi/www/client" failed (13: Permission denied), client: 127.0.0.1, server: _, request: "GET /client HTTP/1.1", host: "localhost" Any help is much appreciated. • Recovering portion(s) of file with CRC (cyclic redundancy check) errors in Robocopy

  Is it possible to recover portions of files with CRC errors? If so, how? I have a partially damaged hard drive (2.5" SATA) that I have partially recovered using Spinrite 6.0 (took 2 weeks to run!). I have been successful in getting many of the files off of the drive using Robocopy . /V /S /E /COPY:DAT /R:1 /W:0, but some of the files get to +/- 90% in Robocopy and then fail with a CRC Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). I am wondering if it is possible to recover the first 90% of the file and try to recover it in a text editor. 1.0% ... 91.0% 91.1% 2010/06/14 18:21:13 ERROR 23 (0x00000017) Copying File F:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mailbox Folder.dbx Data error (cyclic redundancy check). • IPv6 local address in hosts file

  I have set up a local domain on my Apache server. Then I added the following line in my /etc/hosts file ::1 exampledomain.local After I trying to navigate to it, (I tried Firefox and Chromium) I got a server not found error. Then I tried ping6 and it worked: dan@danny:~$ ping6 exampledomain.local PING exampledomain.local(exampledomain.local) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from exampledomain.local: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.032 ms If I replace ::1 with 127.0.0.1 in my hosts file, it works fine. • Redmine on Redhat/CentOS 5 Without using virtual hosts

  I've have followed all the steps to install Redmine on CentOS 5, except for the Apache part: http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/HowTo_install_Redmine_on_CentOS_5 I do not want to configure a virtualhost as we are not using virtual hosts. Can I configure Redmine to run with http://hostname/redmine? Apparently it doesn't work for my case. Redmine was extracted in to the webserver document root /var/www/html/ called /var/www/html/redmine What I did was added a redmine.conf to /etc/httpd/conf.d/ with the following configuration and restarted the server: <Location "/redmine"> Options Indexes ExecCGI FollowSymLinks -MultiViews Order allow,deny Allow from all AllowOverride all PassengerEnabled On RailsBaseURI /var/www/html/redmine RailsEnv production </Location> now i got this error Further information about the error may have been written to the application's log file. • How to get rid of resume information on ubuntu 9.10 ("karmic")

  I am on an old laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 installed. I once tried to not shutdown but go into one of the resume states. On the next power on, resume did not work, but there was an error message during boot asking me for the resume image (which I do not have or know of) and when I press enter the normal boot happens. But this error pops up on every boot now. How can I get back the behaviour from before? Why does the boot process guess there would be a resume image and can I delete this information? I would like to post here the error messages from the boot proces, but they are not in /var/log/syslog, where else can they be?

  I'm a mostly-Windows guy tasked with setting up email on an Ubuntu 12.04 instance at AWS and hit the following error: When I browse to Horde, after entering my administrative credentials, I get the error message: A fatal error has occurred imp is not activated. Details have been logged for the administrator. I am following the following, quite detailed guide http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ This is happening at Step 20, at the text Now fire up you web browser and navigate to your server at http://mail.example.com/ to verify that you can log in as the configured administrative mail user. (of course I used my actual domain). Questions Where is Horde logging the "details"? Any thoughts on why this might happen? I found Google hits suggesting that php5-mcrypt might be missing, but I verified it is installed and up-to-date in my case.

I've added the apple.ldif schema, and the samba.ldif schema, plus a test user. Last week, I had installed slapd on Ubuntu 11, and was able to authenticate against it from OS X Lion after finding the following blog post: Fixing OpenLDAP Authentication on OS X Lion This suggests running the following commands to fix the authentication problem /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string CRAM-MD5" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string NTLM" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string GSSAPI" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist However, I ran these commands on OS X Mountain Lion, and I am still unable to authenticate. I can't even use the Directory Editor app to examine the AD. I am however able to bind to the server via python-ldap's ldap.simple_bind_s('cn=admin,dc=foo,dc=net,'secret'). The error I am getting when trying to use Director Editor is Error Code (5000)

• How to install Web Deployment Agent

  I am trying to setup the TFS automated deploys. But I keep getting the following error message when running the deploy. It appears that I have a service called "Web Management Service", but the error message says that I need "We Deploy Agent Service". I tried installing Web Deploy 2.0, but the server said that I already had this installed. What can I do to fix this problem? Error Code: ERROR_DESTINATION_NOT_REACHABLE Could not connect to the destination computer ("myServer"). On the destination computer, make sure that Web Deploy is installed and that the required process ("Web Deployment Agent Service") is started. --Update-- Looks like the Web Deployment agent is not installed by default. I had to re-install MSDeploy, select Change or Custom, then add the Web Deploy Agent service. Now the deploy works correctly.
