    Using Grails 1.2.2, I'm working on binding a structured property (CC expiration Date) to a java.util.Date but only for specific Domain and Commands objects. I've found the StructuredPropertyEditor interface, but the only way that I've found to register it is to use the PropertyEditorRegistrar and register the editor for the java.util.Date class (much like this example) I don't want all of my dates to use my custom StructuredPropertyEditor. How do I apply the StructuredPropertyEditor selectively to specific targets like certain Command & Domain Classes?

    Hi, java.util.zip has well-known problems with native memory usage, so i'm trying to use a drop-in replacement called "jazzlib". unfortunately as is typical for sourceforge projects there is no documentation. If I add the jar to my classpath then Java freaks out and gives me "prohibited package name" errors because it replaced java.util.zip. How do I tell Java that this is what I want it to do?

    I'm invoking a rest service that returns JSON like this: { "some.key" : "some value", "another.key" : "another value" } I would like to think that I can invoke this service with a java.util.Map as the response type but that's not working for me. I get this exception: org.springframework.web.client.RestClientException: Could not extract response: no suitable HttpMessageConverter found for response type [interface java.util.Map] Should I just specify String as the response type and convert the JSON to a Map?

I know that a zero length zip/jar will trigger an exception if you try to access it using the java.util.zip/java.util.jar APIs. So, it seems like there should be a smallest file that these utility APIs are capable of working with.

    What my app here basically does is it captures a photo or import from gallery, and when the Upload button is pressed, the image will be uploaded to a localhost server.     I am running Ubuntu and am ultimately trying to connect Tomcat to my MySQL database using JDBC. It has worked previously but after a reboot the instance now fails to connect. Both Tomcat 6 and MySQL 5.0.75 are on the same machine Connection string: jdbc:mysql:///localhost:3306 I can connect to MySQL on the command line using the mysql command The my.cnf file is pretty standard (Available on request) has bind address: 127.0.0.1 I cannot Telnet to the MySQL port despite netstat saying MySQL is listening I have one IpTables rule to forward 80 - 8080 and no firewall I'm aware of. I'm pretty new to this and I'm not sure what else to test. I don't know whether I should be looking in etc/interfaces and if I did what to look for. It's weird because it used to work but after a reboot it's down so I must have changed something.... :). I realise a timeout indicates the server is not responding and I assume it's because the request isn't actually getting through. I installed MySQL via apt-get and Tomcat manually. I'm aware of this question but it doesn't help me. The answer I gave worked just for a short time, after that I got some other exceptions. For additional info, the java interface public interface PerformanceMBean { public double getThroughput(); } and implementing class /* some import statements */ public class Performance implements PerformanceMBean { public double getThroughput() { ... } }
