  Hi, I am using the .Net memebership system, and uptil now I haven't had any real troubles with it. I now have a overlay where a user can create a profile. When the profile is created I just want to redirect to the same page, and not to the default page or the return url - which doesn't exists. I have tried to stop the FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage response, but with no effect: FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(username, false); // End the redirect so it doesnt redirect to default url (front-page) Response.End(); Response.Redirect(Request.RawUrl); Does anyone have an idea to how this can be solved?

• How can I eliminate an element in a vector if a condition is met

  Hi, I have a vector of Rect: vector<Rect> myRecVec; I would like to remove the ones which are overlapping in the vector: So I have 2 nested loop like this: vector<Rect>::iterator iter1 = myRecVec.begin(); vector<Rect>::iterator iter2 = myRecVec.begin(); while( iter1 != myRecVec.end() ) { Rectangle r1 = *iter1; while( iter2 != myRecVec.end() ) { Rectangle r2 = *iter1; if (r1 != r2) { if (r1.intersects(r2)) { // remove r2 from myRectVec } } } } My question is how can I remove r2 from the myRectVect without screwing up both my iterators? Since I am iterating a vector and modifying the vector at the same time? I have thought about putting r2 in a temp rectVect and then remove them from the rectVect later (after the iteration). But how can I skip the ones in this temp rectVect during iteration?

  As many of you know, Russia has eleven time zones, and has (or will) cut two of them. It is possible that they may end daylight savings time altogether. Does anyone know if they have cut two time zones, and if daylight savings is now a thing of the past? If so, does daylight savings end in all time zones, or just some? I maintain some software that may need to be patched and can't find two news sites that agree on if they have, or have not implemented these changes.

  We are trying to write an application that uses the NServiceBus library in a VB.NET environment. We've been stymied by errors similar to the following: Reference required to assembly 'NServiceBus, Version=2.0.0.1071, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=9fc386479f8a226c' containing the implemented interface 'NServiceBus.IMessageHandler`1'. Add one to your project. Our project already includes references to NServiceBus.dll and NServiceBus.Core.dll from the same NServiceBus 2.0 RC2 distribution. Steps to reproduce: Create a new VB Class Library Project (.NET 3.5) Add NServiceBus.dll and NServiceBus.Core.dll as References. Put the following code in Class1.vb: Imports NServiceBus.Sagas.Impl Class Test Public Function Foo() As SagaMessageHandler Return Nothing End Function End Class You should now see the compiler error mentioned above. An identical project written in C# has no compile errors. Any ideas about how to solve this problem? (And, yes, my preferred solution is switching to C#, but no, that's not an acceptable one at the moment.)

• How can I delete a file created and opened with Perl's IO::File and XML::Writer?

  So I'm running through a list of things and have code that creates an .xml files with IO::File called $doc, then I make a new writer with XML::Writer(OUTPUT => $doc). More code runs and I build a big XML file with XML::Writer. Then, near the end of the file, I find out if I need this file at all. If I do need it, I just: $writer->end(); $doc->close(); but if I don't need it, what should I enter to just delete all data I've stored/saved and move onto the next file? I tried unlink($docpath) (before and after $doc->close()), the file was not deleted.

• linq: SQL performance on high loaded web applications

  I started working with linq to SQL several weeks ago. I got really tired of working with SQL server directly through the SQL queries (sqldatareader, sqlcommand and all this good stuff).  After hearing about linq to SQL and mvc I quickly moved all my projects to these technologies. I expected linq to SQL work slower but it suprisongly turned out to be pretty fast, primarily because I always forgot to close my connections when using datareaders. Now I don't have to worry about it. But there's one problem that really bothers me. There's one page that's requested thousands of times a day. The system gets data in the beginning, works with it and updates it. Primarily the updates are ++ @ -- (increase and decrease values). I used to do it like this UPDATE table SET value=value+1 WHERE ID=@I'd It worked with no problems obviously. But with linq to SQL the data is taken in the beginning, moved to the class, changed and then saved. Stats.registeredusers++; Db.submitchanges(); Let's say there were 100 000 users. Linq will say "let it be 100 001" instead of "let it be increased by 1". But if there value of users has already been increased (that happens in my site all the time) then linq will be like oops, this value is already 100 001. Whatever I'll throw an exception" You can change this behavior so that it won't throw an exception but it still will not set the value to 100 002. Like I said, it happened with me all the time. The stas value was increased twice a second on average. I simply had to rewrite this chunk of code with classic ado net. So my question is how can you solve the problem with linq

• flash - django communication -- amf, xml, or json?

  We are considering to develop a Flash front-end to a web application written using Django. The Flash front-end will send a simple "id" to the server and in response receive a couple of objects. The application will be open only to authenticated users. To the extend of my current knowledge (which is basic for Flash) we can either use AMF or take an XML or JSON approach. AMF seems to have an upperhand as there are examples out on the internet showing it can cooperate easily with Django's authentication mechanism (most examples feature pyAMF). On the other hand, implementing a XML/JSON based solution may be easier and hassle free. Guidance will be much appreciated.

• T-SQL error object exists when separated in if/else blocks

  I get the error: Msg 2714, Level 16, State 1, Line 16 There is already an object named '#mytemptable' in the database. There are ways around it, but wonder why this happens. Seems like SQL Server is verifying both blocks of the if/else statement? declare @choice int select @choice = 1 if @choice = 1 begin select 'MyValue = 1' AS Pick into #my_temp_table end else begin select 'MyValue <> 1' AS Pick into #my_temp_table end select * from #temptable drop table #temptable If the tables have different names, it works. Or if I create the temp table and use Insert Into... statements that works as well.

• Write Null/Nothing value with Databinding

  I have extended a MaskedTextBox component to add some functionality. The text property of the extended MaskedTextBox is bound to a DateTime? property and the format of binding is set to a time format of "HH:mm:ss" (i.e. 24hr time). So that this masked text box will capture the display a time. The extra functionality I have added is to make the component readonly unless the component is double clicked or the enter button is pressed (the back color of the control helps to inform the users if the component is locked/readonly or not). When the enter button is pressed I also suspend the bindings so that bound data is updated the users input won't be lost. The information is then written back to the value and databindings resumed when the user presses the enter key again. This all works fine up to here, with values written and displayed as would be expected. However, I also want to write the null or nothing value to the DateTime? property if the user hasn't entered any text (or invalid text but let's just stick with no text) when enter key is pressed to submit the new value. Unlike with other valid entries in the MaskedTextBox, with no text entered when i execute: Me.DataBindings("Text").WriteValue() (when 'locking' the MaskedTextBox) it then branches to the bound properties Get method as I step into each line of code in the debugger (as opposed to the Set method with other valid entries) How can I write this null/nothing/"" value to the DateTime? property when no text "" is entered into the MaskedTextBox? • How to set the VirtualDocumentRoot based on the files within

  I'm trying to set up Apache to use the VirtualDocumentRoot directive but my sites aren't all exactly the same. Most of the sites have a drupal folder which should be the root but there are a few really old drupal sites, a few rails sites, some django sites, etc. that want the Document root to be / or some other folder. Is there a way to set up VirtualDocumentRoot based on a conditional or is there a way to use RewriteRule/Cond to detect that / is the incorrect folder if there is a drupal folder or a public folder? • With the advent of HTML 5, is there a point in using COMET anymore?

  I am very tempted to use long wait http or periodic polling by the client to set up pseudo-sockets on the browser side, for an application that would be used publicly. But then on the 2nd thought, I am thinking HTML 5 is here. But on the 3rd thought, what is the percentage of browsers out there that remain non-HTML5 within 12 months, 24 months, 36 months? If there are at least 20% of browsers still incapable of HTML5, then I cannot depend on HTML5 because 20% of users not being able to access an application is a significant amount. What do you think, how would your advice be (to me and to developers in general)? Q1. Is there any point in rigging in COMET into an application anymore? I am thinking of gwt comet - http://code.google.com/p/gwt-comet/. Q2. Should we release a new public application within the next 2 months that is dependent on HTML5 sockets and tell non-HTML5 browser users "sorry, your browser version cannot access this application"? Or should we architect the apps to use communication like GWT RPC? Q3. I am also very distrustful of long wait http request. I have never used it before but I have a horrible feeling about it. I have been using 10 to 20 second client-side polling. Is long wait http request risky (risk of hanging a browser session)? Does long wait request present any additional security risk?

I have a User model and a Hobby model. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :hobbies end class Hobby < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end During the new user registration, I have used a text box where I enter a value for hobby. Then, when I press a button 'Add hobby', a method in UsersController add_hobby is to be called where I intend to append the value entered for hobby by user to the user i.e @user.hobbies << hobby However, my problem is that the user object has not been saved yet, so there is no way to access a particular user object. How do I get around this problem ?

  Hi, I have a SingletonClass, which has only one instance. I want to expand it and add to it a category (MoreFeatures). I created a source SingletonClass+MoreFeatures, which interface/implementation looks like that: @interface SingletonClass (MoreFeatures) - (void) feature; @end @implementation SingletonClass (MoreFeatures) - (void) feature() { } @end When I created my SingletonClass i followed the Apple's example of Singleton implementation in cocoa. This singleton resides in a project B, which is a dependency of a bigger project A. I can call for [[SingletonClass sharedInstance] foo] from a source in project A and it works in case that function foo is located in SingletonClass interface/implementation. When I try to call [[SingletonClass sharedInstance] feature] from a source in project A, I get a crash, which says that there is no method feature for class SingletonClass... Why it happens? • Using memory-based cache together with conventional cache

  Hi! Here's the deal. We would have taken the complete static html road to solve performance issues, but since the site will be partially dynamic, this won't work out for us. What we have thought of instead is using memcache + eAccelerator to speed up PHP and take care of caching for the most used data. Here's our two approaches that we have thought of right now: Using memcache on all<< major queries and leaving it alone to do what it does best. Usinc memcache for most commonly retrieved data, and combining with a standard harddrive-stored cache for further usage. The major advantage of only using memcache is of course the performance, but as users increases, the memory usage gets heavy. Combining the two sounds like a more natural approach to us, even though the theoretical compromize in performance. Memcached appears to have some replication features available as well, which may come handy when it's time to increase the nodes. What approach should we use? - Is it stupid to compromize and combine the two methods? Should we insted be focusing on utilizing memcache and instead focusing on upgrading the memory as the load increases with the number of users? Thanks a lot!

• .Net 2.0 ServiceController.GetServices()

  I've got a website that has windows authentication enable on it. From a page in the website, the users have the ability to start a service that does some stuff with the database. It works fine for me to start the service because I'm a local admin on the server. But I just had a user test it and they can't get the service started. My question is: Does anyone know of a way to get a list of services on a specified computer by name using a different windows account than the one they are currently logged in with? I really don't want to add all the users that need to start the service into a windows group and set them all to a local admin on my IIS server..... What do I do with this code? I'd like to be able to get Users without posts and users with posts using the strategy pattern.

• Is it possible to parse a stylesheet with Nokogiri?

  I've spent my requisite two hours Googling this, and I can not find any good answers, so let's see if humans can beat Google computers. I want to parse a stylesheet in Ruby so that I can apply those styles to elements in my document (to make the styles inlined). So, I want to take something like <style> .mystyle { color:white; } </style> And be able to extract it into a Nokogiri object of some sort. The Nokogiri class "CSS::Parser" (http://nokogiri.rubyforge.org/nokogiri/Nokogiri/CSS/Parser.html) certainly has a promising name, but I can't find any documentation on what it is or how it works, so I have no idea if it can do what I'm after here. My end goal is to be able to write code something like: a_web_page = Nokogiri::HTML(html_page_as_string) parsed_styles = Nokogiri::CSS.parse(html_page_as_string) parsed_styles.each do |style| existing_inlined_style = a_web_page.css(style.declaration) || '' a_web_page.css(style.declaration)['css'] = existing_inlined_style + style.definition end Which would extract styles from a stylesheet and add them all as inlined styles to my document.

• Ruby get inheriting class

  I'm working on creating my first plugin for rails. I'm still pretty new to ruby and I was wondering if its possible to get the inheriting class? For example, I'm trying to create a plugin that will allow unit testing and functional testing when you are not using migrations. What I'm trying to do is initialize a class variable named controller to be initialized to the type of controller that is being tested. If I have a base class ControllerTest: class ControllerTest < Test::Unit::TestCase attr_accessor :controller def initialize super @controller = "call function that will find the inheriting classes name and create an instance of that controller type." end end So what I'm currently stuck on is getting the name of the inheriting class. Is this possible? And if not, does anyone know another way on how I could go about implementing this? Thanks in advance.

• EXC_BAD_ACCESS when trying to release an ABRecordRef

  I've got the following class that is a wrapper around an ABPerson (ABRecordRef): @interface Recipient : NSObject { ABRecordRef person; } - (id)initWithPerson:(ABRecordRef)person; @end @implementation - (id)initWithPerson:(ABRecordRef)_person { if(self = [super init]) person = CFRetain(_person); return self; } - (void)dealloc { if(person) CFRelease(person); [super dealloc]; } @end I've left some of the methods out, but they aren't relevant to this question. Everything works fine, except I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS on the if(person) CFRelease(person); line. Why does this happen? I'm not calling CFRelease or CFRetain at all anywhere else in my app.
