• Tomcat stops responding to JK requests

  Hello. I have a nasty issue with load-balanced Tomcat servers that are hanging up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The system I'm running Tomcat 6.0.26 on HotSpot Server 14.3-b01 (Java 1.6.0_17-b04) on three servers sitting behind another server that acts as load balancer. The load balancer runs Apache (2.2.8-1) + MOD_JK (1.2.25). All of the servers are running Ubuntu 8.04. The Tomcat's have 2 connectors configured: an AJP one, and a HTTP one. The AJP is to be used with the load balancer, while the HTTP is used by the dev team to directly connect to a chosen server (if we have a reason to do so). I have Lambda Probe 1.7b installed on the Tomcat servers to help me diagnose and fix the problem soon to be described. The problem Here's the problem: after about 1 day the application servers are up, JK Status Manager starts reporting status ERR for, say, Tomcat2. It will simply get stuck on this state, and the only fix I've found so far is to ssh the box and restart Tomcat. I must also mention that JK Status Manager takes a lot longer to refresh when there's a Tomcat server in this state. Finally, the "Busy" count of the stuck Tomcat on JK Status Manager is always high, and won't go down per se -- I must restart the Tomcat server, wait, then reset the worker on JK. Analysis Since I have 2 connectors on each Tomcat (AJP and HTTP), I still can connect to the application through the HTTP one. The application works just fine like this, very, very fast. That is perfectly normal, since I'm the only one using this server (as JK stopped delegating requests to this Tomcat). To try to better understand the problem, I've taken a thread dump from a Tomcat which is not responding anymore, and from another one that has been restarted recently (say, 1 hour before). The instance that is responding normally to JK shows most of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Runnable" state, with the following stack trace: java.net.SocketInputStream.socketRead0 ( native code ) java.net.SocketInputStream.read ( SocketInputStream.java:129 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.fill ( BufferedInputStream.java:218 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read1 ( BufferedInputStream.java:258 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read ( BufferedInputStream.java:317 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.read ( ChannelSocket.java:621 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.receive ( ChannelSocket.java:559 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.processConnection ( ChannelSocket.java:686 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket$SocketConnection.runIt ( ChannelSocket.java:891 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:690 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) The instance that is stuck show most (all?) of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Waiting" state. These have the following stack trace: java.lang.Object.wait ( native code ) java.lang.Object.wait ( Object.java:485 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:662 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) I don't know of the internals of Tomcat, but I would infer that the "Waiting" threads are simply threads sitting on a thread pool. So, if they are threads waiting inside of a thread pool, why wouldn't Tomcat put them to work on processing requests from JK? Solution? So, as I've stated before, the only fix I've found is to stop the Tomcat instance, stop the JK worker, wait the latter's busy count slowly go down, start Tomcat again, and enable the JK worker once again. What is causing this problem? How should I further investigate it? What can I do to solve it? Thanks in advance.

• ListView with button and check mark?

  So I have looked through a lot of other answers but have not been able to get my app to work how I want it. I basically want the list view that has the text and check mark to the right, but then an addition button to the left. Right now my list view shows up but the check image is never changed.   I am trying to reconstruct an algorithm belong to this paper: Decomposition of biospeckle images in temporary spectral bands Here is an explanation of the algorithm: We recorded a sequence of N successive speckle images with a sampling frequency fs. In this way it was possible to observe how a pixel evolves through the N images. That evolution can be treated as a time series and can be processed in the following way: Each signal corresponding to the evolution of every pixel was used as input to a bank of filters. The intensity values were previously divided by their temporal mean value to minimize local differences in reflectivity or illumination of the object. The maximum frequency that can be adequately analyzed is determined by the sampling theorem and s half of sampling frequency fs. The latter is set by the CCD camera, the size of the image, and the frame grabber. The bank of filters is outlined in Fig. 1. In our case, ten 5° order Butterworth11 filters were used, but this number can be varied according to the required discrimination. The bank was implemented in a computer using MATLAB software. We chose the Butter-worth filter because, in addition to its simplicity, it is maximally flat. Other filters, an infinite impulse response, or a finite impulse response could be used. By means of this bank of filters, ten corresponding signals of each filter of each temporary pixel evolution were obtained as output. Average energy Eb in each signal was then calculated: where pb(n) is the intensity of the filtered pixel in the nth image for filter b divided by its mean value and N is the total number of images. In this way, en values of energy for each pixel were obtained, each of hem belonging to one of the frequency bands in Fig. 1. With these values it is possible to build ten images of the active object, each one of which shows how much energy of time-varying speckle there is in a certain frequency band. • .animate question/help

  So, I've built this navigation bar so far and I'm curious if it's even possible to achieve what I'm thinking. Currently, when you hover over each of the links they drop down (padding is increased). Now, what I'm curious in doing is if you hover over say "test1", test2-4 also drop with it but in the padding that has been created from the drop down, "test1" information shows up. Allowing the user to click or read whatever information is in there. Also, if the user would like to, they can move their mouse to test2 and everything would animate (opacity, this I can do I think) to whatever is in the test2 field, test3 doing the same and so on. I haven't had much success with this, I've created a completely separate panel before, but that didn't exactly work or I wasn't doing it correctly. • Custom UserControl property not being set via XAML DataBinding in Silverlight 4

  I have a custom user control called GoalProgressControl. Another user control contains GoalProgressControl and sets its GoalName attribute via databinding in XAML. However, the GoalName property is never set. When I check it in debug mode GoalName remains "null" for the control's lifetime. How do I set the GoalName property? Is there something I am doing incorrectly? I am using .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4. I am relatively new to XAML and Silverlight so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attempted to change GoalProgressControl.GoalName into a POCO property but this causes a Silverlight error, and my reading leads me to believe that databound properties should be of type DependencyProperty. I've also simplified my code to just focus on the GoalName property (the code is below) with no success. • Does anyone know how to appropriately deal with user timezones in rails 2.3?

  We're building a rails app that needs to display dates (and more importantly, calculate them) in multiple timezones. Can anyone point me towards how to work with user timezones in rails 2.3(.5 or .8) The most inclusive article I've seen detailing how user time zones are supposed to work is here: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/howtos/time-zones... although it is unclear when this was written or for what version of rails. Specifically it states that: "Time.zone - The time zone that is actually used for display purposes. This may be set manually to override config.time_zone on a per-request basis." Keys terms being "display purposes" and "per-request basis". Locally on my machine, this is true. However on production, neither are true. Setting Time.zone persists past the end of the request (to all subsequent requests) and also affects the way AR saves to the DB (basically treating any date as if it were already in UTC even when its not), thus saving completely inappropriate values. We run Ruby Enterprise Edition on production with passenger. If this is my problem, do we need to switch to JRuby or something else? • Both tab & hover triggered popups problem

  I am trying to display divs when hovering over thumb-nails and/or both when tabbing onto them. If I stick to my mouse, the popups seem to work OK - if I start with a tab press I can show the popops also (foward only - no shift + tab yet). • problem with send me log

  Hi, I had try to implement the send me log feature into my apps but I can't get it right. Can anyone please help me with it? I'm guessing I've set something up wrong here but I've just followed a tutorial 100% correctly!! If anyone could help I'd be very grateful! Thanks EDIT: According to this blog, this post and a few other websites, I'm not the only one getting this problem. It has been like this since the release of xCode 3.2, assuming the apple dev center documents and tutorials etc are pre-3.2 as well. However some say its a known issue whereas others seem to think this was intentional. I for one would like both the extended console and in code messages, and I certainly do not like the "Command /bin/sh..." error and really think they would have documented such an update. • How to get an X11 Window from a Process ID ?

  Under Linux, my C++ application is using fork() and execv() to launch multiple instances of OpenOffice so as to view some powerpoint slide shows. This part works. Next I want to be able to move the OpenOffice windows to specific locations on the display. I can do that with the XMoveResizeWindow() function but I need to find the Window for each instance. I have the process ID of each instance, how can I find the X11 Window from that ? UPDATE - Thanks to Andy's suggestion, I have pulled this off. Explanation: A portlet application containing legacy portlets can only be updated with another portlet application that contains legacy portlets. The same is true for standard portlet applications. User Response: Modify the portlet.xml of the application such that it matches the original API type, standard or legacy and try again. However, the "portlet.xml" file has not changed in about a month, and I've done several WAR updates for this application in that time with no problems. The problem seems to be caused by the code changes I did yesterday, but I have no clue why a few lines of code would do this. Any ideas?

• Spring MVC Project's .war file not able to deploy using JRE in jetty server

I generated a war file(SpringsMVC.war) and placed it in /webapps folder of Jetty server.   How do you use DwmGetColorizationColor? The documentation says it returns two values: a 32-bit 0xAARRGGBB containing the color used for glass composition a boolean parameter that is true "if the color is an opaque blend" (whatever that means) Here's a color that i like, a nice puke green: You can notice the color is greeny, and the translucent title bar (against a white background) shows the snot color very clearly: i try to get the color from Windows: DwmGetColorizationColor(dwCcolorization, bIsOpaqueBlend); And i get dwColorization: 0x0D0A0F04 bIsOpaqueBlend: false According to the documentation this value is of the format AARRGGBB, and so contains: AA: 0x0D (13) RR: 0x0A (10) GG: 0x0F (15) BB: 0x04 (4) This supposedly means that the color is (10, 15, 4), with an opacity of ~5.1%. But if you actually look at this RGB value, it's nowhere near my desired snot green. Here is (10, 15, 4) with zero opacity (the original color), and (10,15,4) with 5% opacity against a white/checkerboard background: So the question is: How to get glass color in Windows Vista/7? i tried using DwmGetColorizationColor, but that doesn't work very well. A person with same problem, but a nicer shiny picture to attract you squirrels: So, it boils down to – DwmGetColorizationColor is completely unusable for applications attempting to apply the current color onto an opaque surface. i love this guy's screenshots much better than mine. • How to Bind a selected Item in a Listbox to a ItemsControl and ItemTemplate in WPF and C#

  All, LowDown: I am trying to create a Document Viewer in WPF. The layout is this: Left side is a full list box. On the right side is a Collection or an Items control. Inside the items control will be a collection of the "selected documents" in the list box. So A user can select multiple items in the list box and for each new item they select, they can add the item to the collection on the right. I want the collection to look like a image gallery that shows up in Google/Bing Image searches. Make sense? The problem I am having is I can't get the WPFPreviewer to bind correctly to the selected item in the list box under the itemscontrol. Side Note: The WPFPreviewer is something Micorosft puts out that allows us to preview documents. Other previewers can be built for all types of documents, but im going basic here until I get this working right.   When trying to call wave.getState() in my Google Wave gadget, I get back null (no state object). How can I initialize the Wave state object? I am working in the Wave Sandbox. This changes the visual appearance of the gadget when the user puts the gadget in Edit mode (CTRL+E), by hiding the view DIV and displaying the edit DIV. The newButtonClick callback (which is attached to the link "a.newButton" in the edit container) is supposed to add Jeremias (Nate's Shadowrun character) to the gadget state, so that he'll be appear as a table row in edit mode. I have verified that the initializer method is called, and the view/edit mode switch works just fine (except the state is null). When I click on the new button link (the link at the bottom in edit mode), and trigger the newButtonClick handler, I get an error because wave.getState() also returns null. How can I initialize the wave state so that I can work with it? The purpose of my gadget will be to keep track of combat initiative order in a Shadowrun tabletop game (4th Ed). • "Row not found or changed" Problem

  Hi there, I'm working on a SQL CE Database and get into the "Row nor found or changed" exception. The exception only occurs when I try to update. On the first Run after the insert it shows up a MemberChangeConflict which says, that my Column Created_at has in all three values (current, original, database) the same. But in a second attempt it doesn't appear anymore. The DataContext is instanciated on Startup and freed on Exit of my Local(!) Application. I use a sqlmetal generated mapping and code file. In the map I added some Associations and set the timemstamp columns UpdateCheck property to Always while all other have the setting never. The Timestamp Column is marked as isVersion="true", the Id Column as Primary Key. Since I don't dispose the datacontext I expected to be using implicit transaction. When I run the SubmitChanges Method within a TransactionScope. Can anyone tell me how I can update the timestamp within the code ? I know about the Problems one has to deal with if you dispose the datacontext. So I decided not to do this since I use a Single User Local DB Cache File. (I did already use a version where I disposed the datacontext after every usage, but this version had a real bad performance and error rate, so I decided to choose the other variant.) • Need some help deciphering a line of assembler code, from .NET JITted code

  In a C# constructor, that ends up with a call to this(...), the actual call gets translated to this: 0000003d call dword ptr ds:[199B88E8h] What is the DS register contents here? I know it's the data-segment, but is this call through a VMT-table or similar? I doubt it though, since this(...) wouldn't be a call to a virtual method, just another constructor. I ask because the value at that location seems to be bad in some way, if I hit F11, trace into (Visual Studio 2008), on that call-instruction, the program crashes with an access violation. The code is deep inside a 3rd party control library, where, though I have the source code, I don't have the assemblies compiled with enough debug information that I can trace it through C# code, only through the disassembler, and then I have to match that back to the actual code. VMT-table is only for virtual isn't it? and this is constructor Could the constructor have yet to be JITted, which could mean that the call would actually call through a JIT shim? I'm afraid I'm in deep water here, so anything might and could help. Edit: Well, the problem just got worse, or better, or whatever. We are developing the .NET feature in a C# project in a Visual Studio 2008 solution, and debugging and developing through Visual Studio. However, in the end, this code will be loaded into a .NET runtime hosted by a Win32 Delphi application. In order to facilitate easy experimentation of such features, we can also configure the Visual Studio project/solution/debugger to copy the produced dll's to the Delphi app's directory, and then execute the Delphi app, through the Visual Studio debugger. Turns out, the problem goes away if I run the program outside of the debugger, but during debugging, it crops up, every time. Not sure that helps, but since the code isn't slated for production release for another 6 months or so, then it takes some of the pressure off of it for the test release that we have soon. I'll dive into the memory parts later, but probably not until over the weekend, and post a followup.

• Large number of soft page faults when assigning a TJpegImage to a TBitmap

  I have a Delphi 6 Pro application that processes incoming jpeg frames from a streaming video server. The code works but I recently noticed that it generates a huge number of soft page faults over time. After doing some investigation, the page faults appear to be coming from one particular graphics operation. Note, the uncompressed bitmaps in question are 320 x 240 or about 300 KB in size so it's not due to the handling of large images. The number of page faults being generated isn't tolerable. Over an hour it can easily top 1000000 page faults. I created a stripped down test case that executes the code I have included below on a timer, 10 times a second. The page faults appear to happen when I try to assign the TJpegImage to a TBitmap in the GetBitmap() method. I know this because I commented out that line and the page faults do not occur. The assign() triggers a decompression operation on the part of TJpegImage as it pushes the decompressed bits into a newly created bitmap that GetBitmap() returns. When I run Microsoft's pfmon utility (page fault monitor), I get a huge number of soft page fault error lines concerning RtlFillMemoryUlong, so it appears to happen during a memory buffer fill operation. One puzzling note. The summary part of pfmon's report where it shows which DLL caused what page fault does not show any DLL names in the far left column. I tried this on another system and it happens there too. Can anyone suggest a fix or a workaround? Here's the code. • Twitter Bootstrap modal spans, side-by-side divs and "control-group"?

  I'm trying my best to have a good looking modal login form but for some reasons it seems that no matter how I nest divs, I cannot obtain the proper shape. What I need is a big "lock" image side-by-side with a username/password form. The best I could do adds a horizontal scroller by the modal bottom and shows the input gadgets fairly distant from the image partly hidden on the right side of the modal canvas. Inspecting with FireBug it seems that the spans in row-fluid are ok but the "control-label" and "controls" class adds way too much space on the left by width (for the labels) and margin-left (for the controls). How would you solve it? Am I doing something wrong with divs and classes nesting?
