• How to use a loop to download HTML with paging?

So if &start=2, and &num=10, it will scrape 10 results from page 2. Given that Google has a max limit of num = 10, how can I write a loop that loops through the HTML and scrape the results for the first 10 pages? I have certain controls in my page and GridView/DataGrid as last control, when I navigate (Tab key navigation) on my page. I can navigate from first control to GridView but when I finish all editable items in grid the tab control goes to browser address bar. I need this should focus to again first control on the page. My question is how can I do this? If it is an ordinary controls then I can use (on key down) attribute of the same.. here how can I get access to the last row's last column on the grid view.

• Need help with a PHP proxy script

  I’m currently working on a small web app that allows people to search for music album covers. However, I’m having a problem getting my PHP proxy to work. Right now I’m using a simple PHP proxy script to grab the HTML from Google’s image result page, and parse it to find the first image result (I can’t use the image search API because it doesn’t offer the parameters that I need to use). I know that the PHP script works in some way, because I’ve used it to grab XML data across domains, so I also assume that since I’m trying to grab HTML that’s what’s causing the error. So anyway, here is the site where you can see it: http://www.5byfive.net/beta/index.html Just type something into the textbox, and it will come up with the error that’s returned (I’ve placed the HTML into a file so you can see what it actually looks like here: http://www.5byfive.net/beta/error.html ).   I have several tables which are generated by another application, which I have no control over. I am totally new to jQuery and ajax, and have only a limited knowledge of jsp.   I am trying to identify a problem because of an unusual usage of variadic macros. Here is the hypothetic macro: #define va(c, d, ...) c(d, __VA_ARGS__) #define var(a, b, ...) va(__VA_ARGS__, a, b) var(2, 3, printf, “%d %d %d\n”, 1); For gcc, the preprocessor will output printf("%d %d %d\n", 1, 2, 3) but for VS 2008, the output is printf, “%d %d %d\n”, 1(2, 3); I suspect the difference is caused by the different treatment to VA_ARGS, for gcc, it will first expand the expression to va(printf, "%d %d %d\n", 1, 2, 3), and treat 1, 2, 3 as the VA_ARGS for macro va. But for VS 2008, it will first treat b as VA_ARGS for macro va, and then do the expansion. Which one is correct interpretation for C99 variadic macro? or my usage falls into an undefined behavior?

• Using 'git pull' vs 'git checkout -f' for website deployment

  I've found two common approaches to automatically deploying website updates using a bare remote repo. The first requires that the repo is cloned into the document root of the webserver and in the post-update hook a git pull is used. cd /srv/www/siteA/ || exit unset GIT_DIR git pull hub master The second approach adds a 'detached work tree' to the bare repository. The post-receive hook uses git checkout -f to replicate the repository's HEAD into the work directory which is the webservers document root i.e. GIT_WORK_TREE=/srv/www/siteA/ git checkout -f The first approach has the advantage that changes made in the websites working directory can be committed and pushed back to the bare repo (however files should not be updated on the live server). The second approach has the advantage that the git directory is not within the document root but this is easily solved using htaccess. Is one method objectively better than the other in terms of best practice? What other advantages and disadvantages am I missing?

  I want to log the versions of all DLLs my .NET-application uses. It doesn't matter if the log-output is generated on startup or on first use of each DLL. The first solution which came to my mind was to iterate over all DLL files which reside in the same directory as my assembly. But is this the best option I have? Is there any better way to do this? It's important that the solution should also work on .NET-Compact-Framework.

  As any programmer in the world at least once in his/her life, I am trying to create my "revolutionary", the new and only one operating system. :D Well, I am using a virtual emulator (Oracle VM Virtual Box), for which I create a new unknwon operating system, with a vmdk disk. I like vmdk because they are just plain files, so I can paste my boot-loader over the first 512 bytes of the virtual hard disk. Now, I am trying to read the next sector of this virtual disk, on which I would paste a simple kernel that would display a message. I have two questions: Am I reading the second segment (the first -512 bytes- is occupied by the bootloader) correctly?   This is as simple as I can get. I will have several spans randomly positioned on the screen through something like: $(".hidden:first").css('-webkit-transform','rotate('+((0.5-Math.random())*40)+'deg)'); $(".hidden:first").animate({ left: '+=' + (((screen.width-800-224)/2) + Math.random()*800), top: '+=' + (50+Math.random()*600) } [...] and later on I would like to iterate through every char of every of those elements (that are randomly position and have random rotation), and I would need to discover the (x,y) position of every character on the screen so I can colorize it, forming certain draws according to certain functions. • Bad event on java panel

  Hi I have a java panel with 4 buttons. When I click on of these buttons, a new frame appears and the first is hidden with setVisibile(false). On that new window, I have another button, but when i click it, I got the event corresponding to the fourth button of the first window. Clicking the button again does the trick, but of course this is not acceptable. Am I missing something? I just show the frames with nameOfTheFrame.setVisible(true); and I have MouseListeners on every button. It's made up of Nodes: class Node { Node next; // some user data } and each Node points to the next node, except for the last Node, which has null for next. Say there is a possibility that the list can contain a loop - i.e. the final Node, instead of having a null, has a reference to one of the nodes in the list which came before it. What's the best way of writing boolean hasLoop(Node first) which would return true if the given Node is the first of a list with a loop, and false otherwise? How could you write so that it takes a finite amount of space and a reasonable amount of time?

• Designing a database file format

  I would like to design my own database engine for educational purposes, for the time being. Designing a binary file format is not hard nor the question, I've done it in the past, but while designing a database file format, I have come across a very important question: How to handle the deletion of an item? So far, I've thought of the following two options: Each item will have a "deleted" bit which is set to 1 upon deletion. Pro: relatively fast. Con: potentially sensitive data will remain in the file. 0x00 out the whole item upon deletion. Pro: potentially sensitive data will be removed from the file. Con: relatively slow. Recreating the whole database. Pro: no empty blocks which makes the follow-up question void. Con: it's a really good idea to overwrite the whole 4 GB database file because a user corrected a typo. I will sell this method to Twitter ASAP! Now let's say you already have a few empty blocks in your database (deleted items). The follow-up question is how to handle the insertion of a new item? Append the item to the end of the file. Pro: fastest possible. Con: file will get huge because of all the empty blocks that remain because deleted items aren't actually deleted. Search for an empty block exactly the size of the one you're inserting. Pro: may get rid of some blocks. Con: you may end up scanning the whole file at each insert only to find out it's very unlikely to come across a perfectly fitting empty block. Find the first empty block which is equal or larger than the item you're inserting. Pro: you probably won't end up scanning the whole file, as you will find an empty block somewhere mid-way; this will keep the file size relatively low. Con: there will still be lots of leftover 0x00 bytes at the end of items which were inserted into bigger empty blocks than they are. Rigth now, I think the first deletion method and the last insertion method are probably the "best" mix, but they would still have their own small issues. Alternatively, the first insertion method and scheduled full database recreation. (Probably not a good idea when working with really large databases. Also, each small update in that method will clone the whole item to the end of the file, thus accelerating file growth at a potentially insane rate.) Unless there is a way of deleting/inserting blocks from/to the middle of the file in a file-system approved way, what's the best way to do this? More importantly, how do databases currently used in production usually handle this?

  With the following bit of code: $builder = ORM::factory('branch')->where('institution_id', $this->institution->id)->orderby('name'); I need to first execute: $count = $builder->count_all(); Then I need to execute: $rs = $builder->find_all($limit, $offset); However, it appears that when I execute the first query the stored query parameters are cleared so that a fresh query can be executed. Is there a way to avoid having the parameters cleared or at least copy them easily without having to reach directly into the Database driver object that stores the query parameters and copy them out? We are using Kohana 2.3.4 and upgrading is not an option.

  Hi all. I'm modifying an existing Lotus view to include a field from another form. I first appended a new column and set it to the desired field. However, after I refreshed, the new column was blank even though I know it has data. I then updated the View Selection formula from: SELECT Form = "A" & StatusIndex < "06" to: SELECT (Form = "A"| Form = "B") & StatusIndex < "06" Still no luck. The view is refreshing successfully, but the new field is still blank. What else is there to add this new column to this view? This is my first time experimenting with Lotus, so if I seem to be missing some major concept, I probably am.

  Hi There, I currently have an iPhone app that reads data from an external XML file at start-up, and then writes this data to the database (it only reads/writes data that the user's app has not seen before, though) My concern is that there is going to be a back catalogue of data of several years, and that the first time the user runs the app it will have to read this in and be atrociously slow. Our proposed solution is to include this data "pre-built" into the applications database, so that it doesn't have to load in the archival data on first-load - that is already in the app when they purchase it. My question is whether there is a way to automatically populate this data with data from, say, an XML file or something. The database is in SQLite. I would populate it by hand, but obviously this will take a very long time, so I was just wondering if anybody had a more...programmatic solution...

I explain: I have a function that make pagination on my website, inside every div that are "pages" I have some pictures where I have added LightBox. Everything works nice on the first div (page) but when I change the page it doesnt' work anymore. I tried to fix in this way: $('.pagination a').click(function () { initShadow(); }); In this way it work on the pageLoad and on the first page that I change, than it stop again. So I need to fix this issue, everytime I change the "page" I would like it works fine. Is possible to refresh a function every x second or to refresh it everytime I click on the pagination buttons?

• C# WinForms: How to load an image, then wait a few seconds, then play a mp3 sound ?

  Hello everybody, (after pressing a button) i would like to show an image (using a picturebox), wait a few seconds and then play a mp3 sound, but i dont get it to work. To wait a few seconds i use "System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)". The problem is, the image alway appears AFTER the wait time, but i want it to show first, then wait, then play the mp3... i tried to use "WaitOnLoad = true" but it doesnt work, shouldn't it load the image first and the continue to read the next code line ?? Here is the code i've tried, that doesnt work: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { pictureBox1.WaitOnLoad = true; pictureBox1.Load("image.jpg"); System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); MessageBox.Show("test"); //just to test, here should be the code to play the mp3 } (i also tried loading the image with "LoadAsync" and put the code to wait and play the mp3 in the "LoadCompleted" event, but that doesnt work either...) would be very nice if somebody helps me

• Git: how do you merge with remote repo?

  Please help me understand how git works. I clone my remote repository on two different machines. I edit the same file on both machines. I successfully commit and push the update from the first machine to the remote repository. I then try to push the update on the second machine, but get an error: ! [rejected] master -> master (non-fast-forward) I understand why I received the error. How can I merge my changes into the remote repo? Do I need to pull the remote repo first?

• stuck on sliders with jquery

  I am building a portfolio page of different work that has been done and im using two different jquery sliding techniques, one nested in amongst the other one. The first slider works great but the second one doesnmt work that great for the first few and then doesnt work at all. • What's a good way to create an Event Calendar

  Hi, I want to create an Event Calendar for my iPhone App. In a first instance the Event Calendar is supposed to list the Events and have a Details View with additional info. It is also supposed to contain an action to trasfer a specific event to the iPhone Calendar. First thoughts go towards using a UITableView where I make the event dates as sections. Since the Calendar is supposed to span many month I am unsure whether this really is the best way to go about it. Any suggestions?
