• Is ASP.Net Server Control, Postback Architecture failed in current Web 2.0 World.

  What i am looking around me is the drastically change in ASP.Net Architecture. More and more company are following the approach of JSON based wcf service in middle tier. Plain HTML based UI tier with JQuery/Ajax. No Postback at all, This contradicts the Default behaviour of Asp.Net Server Control/Code Behind Event handler/Postback. I am a Asp.Net Web Developer for around 4 years, and concerned about the future of ASP.Net. Is the Default Architecture of ASP.Net is Outdated at all? Does MVC or ASP.Net 4.0 Tries to solve the Issue?

• Silverlight 4 Assembly Sharing Problem

  I have a WPF .NET 4.0 class library referencing a Silverlight 4 class library. The SL library compiles fine but when I compile the WPF class library, I get: Error 2 Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event.' MyProj.Presentation.Wpf I figure the problem must be similar to the one mentioned here: http://markti.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D92CF278F0F91957!273.entry but my WPF library doesn't contain any XAML that references a user control from my SL library. In fact, my SL library doesn't have any XAML in it at all. It does, however, have several shared DependencyObjects, such as an EventCommander (binding UI element events to Commands), and some DataTemplate helpers. Is there any way I can narrow down the problem here? And has anyone found a way of effectively referencing UI elements in a SL4 project from .NET 4.0? Thanks.

• jQuery tooltips on a dynamically generated page.

  Him I'm trying to add a jQuery tooltip to a dynamically generated list, the text I want to display the tooltip on is in a table, so my CSS tooltip doesn't work: CSS tooltip. I tried to add this jQuery tooltip to the page, it works on my local test page, but I think the problem has something to do with uniqur ids, and I'm not sure how to implement the bind all function explained there: "To bind all of the targets to their corresponding content, it takes only one line: $(".tooltip-target").ezpz_tooltip(); Calling ezpz_tooltip() on a class will bind the hover event to each element, and because of the naming convention it will know which content to display." Can someone help me to understand what exactly I have to do to make this work on a dynamic page? The page is Euroworker's checkout product page. (You'll have to add some items to the basket, click the home button on the left of the bnav bar and click the little white button "kjøp" then the orange button "handlevogn".) Thanks.

• find_all_links() Perl function don't find all links

  I'm starting with Perl and I'm trying to do a script that log me out of a page (I already did the login one). The think is, I'm trying to use find_link function from WWW::Mechanize (I also tried WWW::Mechanize::Firefox) to find the logout link, but it's not working. So, my question is: is the event onmouseover avoiding that link to be founded? I think WWW::Mechanize::Firefox supports javascript but maybe it's not correct. Logout Is there a way to do what I want? Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

• How to keep submit button visible and executable upon textarea onblur

  I have a <div id="comment_posting_holder"> tag that holds a form with two elements: a textarea box and a submit button. I want to have the div tag (containing the textarea and submit button) disappear if I click somewhere "OTHER" than the submit button. I have a start for the code below. So upon leaving focus from the textarea, I can make the div tag disappear. I tried placing in a mouseclick event inside the blur function for the submit button but that did not work. Any suggestions? Thank you! **Facebook does this with it's comments. • How do I normalise this database design?

  I am creating a rowing reporting and statistics system for a client where I have a structure at the moment similar to the following: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ID | Team | Coaches | Rowers | Event | Position | Time | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | 18 | TeamName | CoachName1 | RowerName1 | EventName | 1 | 01:32:34 | | | | CoachName2 | RowerName2 | | | | | | | | RowerName3 | | | | | | | | RowerName4 | | | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an example row of data but I would like to expand this out to a Rowers table and Coaches table and so on but I don't know how best to then link that back to the Entries table which is what this is. Has anybody got any words of wisdom they could share with me? Update A Team can have any number of Coaches and Rowers, a Rower can be in many Teams (Team A, B, C etc) and a Team can have many Coaches.

• Why my custom CStatic derived control does not receive WM_SIZE message?

  Hello everyone! I'm currently developing a custom control that derives from CStatic MFC class (Smart Device C++ project). I have created the control class using VC++ MFC class wizard, selecting CStatic class as its base class. I have used Class View to add OnSize event handler for my control class (I have selected WM_SIZE message from messages list), and new OnSize method has been created by Visual Studio along with ON_WM_SIZE() statement between BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(...) and END_MESSAGE_MAP(). The problem is that my control does not receive WM_SIZE thus OnSize method is never called - I used MoveWindow to change size of my control - its size changes as I have seen on dialog window but WM_SIZE message is never being sent. When I send WM_SIZE through SendMessage or PostMessage function - the control OnSize method is called normally. What do I wrong? I've read MSDN docs about CStatic control and there is no information that WM_SIZE message is never sent to a static control window. Sorry for my bad English.

  Hey, I would like to create a SDP media field with its attributes, and there are a few things I don't understand. I've skimmed and read the relevant RFC and I understand most of what each field means, but what I don't understand is how do I derive from the Audio/Video Format of the JMF, which parameters of the format compose the rtpmap registry entries I need to use. I see many times the fields m=audio 12548 RTP/AVP 0 8 101 a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000 a=rtpmap:8 PCMA/8000 a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000 a=fmtp:101 0-16 a=silenceSupp:off - - - - a=ptime:20 a=sendrecv these are received from the pbx server I'm connecting to, what do they mean in the terms of the JMF audio format properties. • adjust selected File to FileFilter in a JFileChooser

  I'm writing a diagram editor in java. This app has the option to export to various standard image formats such as .jpg, .png etc. When the user clicks File-Export, you get a JFileChooser which has a number of FileFilters in it, for .jpg, .png etc. Now here is my question: Is there a way to have the extension of the default adjust to the selected file filter? E.g. if the document is named "lolcat" then the default option should be "lolcat.png" when the png filter is selected, and when the user selects the jpg file filter, the default should change to "lolcat.jpg" automatically. Is this possible? How can I do it? edit: Based on the answer below, I wrote some code. But it doesn't quite work yet. I've added a propertyChangeListener to the FILE_FILTER_CHANGED_PROPERTY, but it seems that within this method getSelectedFile() returns null. • jQuery droppable accordion

  I've been playing around with trying to create a droppable accordion for a little while, and haven't gotten it to be very responsive. When I drag an item over the accordion, it takes 5+ seconds for the accordion element to open (if it does at all). Sometimes I have to "wave" the dragged element over the accordion element. I know I read something a while back about event processing in javascript - something along the lines of the browser not always passing control to the javascript engine when you think it does, or something like that, resulting in weird timing. Has anyone else seen tried to do this before? Have you found jquery/javascript to be this slow? Do you have any references for how to get a responsive droppable accordion (the jQuery UI site doesn't seem to, and I didn't find anything on SO or Google). Thanks!

• Consuming all touchEvents not preventing scrolling on the blackberry storm

  Hello, I am trying to make a custom control for the BlackBerry Storm using SDK v5.0. This control needs to disable scrolling while the user is dragging elements within a field. The problem is that even if I my control consumes every single touch event send to it, when the user lifts their finger off the screen it still flings up or down as if its finishing a scroll action. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening or what I might be doing wrong ? Thank you.

• Upgrading a SharePoint list instance that was deployed via feature

  I'm curious how others address this issue. Using VSEWSS 1.3, I have created a site content type, a list definition (w event receivers), and a list instance. All of them are in the same WSP solution and each is activated individually via features. Now let's assume that all the features have been activated for some time, and the list instance contains a number of items (that can't be deleted). Now suppose I need to make a change to the schema.xml (inject some javascript, modify views, whatever) of the list. Is it even possible to "upgrade" the schema of the existing list instance? Otherwise I would think I'm stuck creating a new instance and copying items over.

• Jquery live not working in IE

  Hi, I have some code that works fine in FF but not in IE. I have read other posts saying that the Jquery live method does not support change events but I am using a click event. Here is my code, it is inside $(document).ready(function(): $("a").live("click", function(e) { alert("link clicked"); //do stuff }); If FF the alert is fired but not in IE. When I use $("a").click it works fine, the problem is that I need to the function to be applied to links that do not exist when the page is first loaded (they will be created via ajax calls at a later stage). Do I have any options here. We are using jquery-1.4.1.min.js. Thanks in advance

• Question regarding inheritance in wxWidgets.

  Currently I'm attempting to write my own wxObject, and I would like for the class to be based off of the wxTextCtrl class. Currently this is what I have: class CommandTextCtrl : public wxTextCtrl { public: void OnKey(wxKeyEvent& event); private: DECLARE_EVENT_TABLE() }; Then later on I have this line of code, which is doesn't like: CommandTextCtrl *ctrl = new CommandTextCtrl(panel, wxID_ANY, *placeholder, *origin, *size); ...and when I attempt to compile the program I receive this error: error: no matching function for call to ‘CommandTextCtrl::CommandTextCtrl(wxPanel*&, <anonymous enum>, const wxString&, const wxPoint&, const wxSize&)’ It seems that it doesn't inherit the constructor method with wxTextCtrl. Does anyone happen to know why it doesn't inherit the constructor? Thanks in advance for any help!

• Dynamically add a new row as Add in UITableView in edit mode?

  I have a table view with 0 or n rows of data from datastore. I added a customized Edit button on the right of the view's navigation bar. By default, when the edit button is clicked, in the action event, I set the view as edit mode: [self.tableView setEditing:YES animated:YES]; I would like to add a row at the end of the table view with Add button as an accessory on the left when the table view is in edit mode. And the "Add" row will not be displayed when the view is not in edit mode. This is very similar to the case of iPhon'e Contacts application when a contact is in edit mode. I am not sure if I need to add a row dynamically, and how if so? An alternative way I guess is to add more row when tableView:numberOfRowsInSection: is called? If later is the case, I have to make it hidden when the view is not in edit mode and visible when the view is in edit.

  Hi, I have a scenario: There is a Slideshow running in PowerPoint. I want to control the movement [Next and Previous] of the slides. Of course it is possible with the [ and < button on the keyboard], but is there any way in which I can have a custom application listening to the Next and Previous controls? As in, my custom application has nothing but 2 buttons, next and previous, when I click either, the button's event handler should pass the control to the Power Point Application running the slideshow. And thus, the powerpoint will move the slideshow back or forward? Somewhat similar to the way remote, wireless Power Point Presenters work on the s/w end. Thank You.

  Hello everyone, i am designing a local database in .net with wpf as gui. I have added a new database, and added a new table. Through the TableAdapter i generated 2 statements ( 1 statement is a select stmt and 1 is a insert) , i insert name and firstname (id is auto generated). We appreciate your eagerness and willingness to jump in and help us accomplish all of our goals here at acme (these roadrunner rockets don’t make themselves). You may have noticed that we have this thing called SharePoint lying around and we have invested some time in money to make it not a complete piece of garbage. So, I thought I’d give you some pointers to help make your stay here enjoyable and productive. Yeah… you don’t really know SharePoint Just because you had a mysite at your last organization or had a SharePoint 2003 team site does NOT mean you comprehend the vastness that is SharePoint. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. You don’t know what should and should not be done. No, we CAN’T just query the SQL database directly. Yes, it really does take that long. No, we can’t do that out-of-the-box. Your experience doesn’t mean as much as you think it means… Yes, I’m aware that you co-created the internet with Al Gore and have been managing projects since I was blowing up GI Joe figures with firecrackers, however SharePoint is not like anything you have worked with before from a management perspective. Please don’t tell us the proper way to do our job or tell us how “you” would do it, and PLEASE don’t utter the words “I used to do some .NET development so let me know if you get stuck and need some guidance.” It MAY be possible for a incredible project manager to manage a SharePoint project and not understand the technology, but if you force your ideas on us or treat us like we don’t really know what we’re doing then you will prove yourself to NOT be one of those types. Oh no you didn’t… Please don’t tell us how you can bring in a group of guys of Kazakhstan to do the project for $20/hr. There are many companies out there who can do some really crappy SharePoint work and we don’t want to be stuck maintaining their junk. Do you know what it means to deploy a solution? Neither do some of those companies out there. However, there are are few AWESOME consulting firms out there but $150/hr is cheap for these guys. Believe me, it’s worth it though. You get what you pay for! Show us some respect We truly do appreciate and value your opinion and experience, but when we tell you something is different in SharePoint don’t be condescending and dismiss OUR experience and opinions. We have spent a lot of time and energy learning a very complicated technology that can open up a world of possibilities when used properly. We just want to make sure it is used properly. It’s not the same as .NET development. It’s not like a regular web application. There’s more going on behind the scenes than you can possibly fathom. Have a little faith in us please and listen when we talk. You may actually learn a thing or two. Take some time to learn the technology There is hope… you don’t have to be totally worthless. Take some time to learn SharePoint. Learn what it is and what it can do. Invest some time in learning our SharePoint environment. What’s our logical architecture and taxonomy?   Hello, while trying to deploy a Grails application into tomcat6 I ran into some problems: I used the grails war command to build up a war, then copied it to var/lib/tomcat6/webapps and tried to restart the container. I had to change default Tomcat policy to skip security exceptions, since I couldn't access environment variable (like grails.env), then tried again but it gives me an exception related to instantiating something, but it's not clear where should I try to fix the error, according to tomcat6 logs the problem is: SEVERE: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class org.codehaus.groovy.grails.web.context.GrailsC$ org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'pluginManager' defined in ServletContext$ at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) Caused by: org.codehaus.groovy.grails.exceptions.NewInstanceCreationException: Could not create a new instance of class [Hiberna$ ... 1 more Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.hibernate.cfg.Environment It seems like it's unable to load org.hibernate.cfg.Environment class. I checked the applicationContext.xml and it refers to grails.xml to search for plugins, in this last file I actually have HibernateGrailsPlugin. Where should I look to find if the plugin is present?
