• Managed code and the Shell – Do?

  Back in 2006 I wrote a blog post titled: Managed code and the Shell – Don't!. Please visit that post to see why that advice was given.The crux of the issue has been addressed in the latest CLR via In-Process Side-by-Side Execution. In addition to the MSDN documentation I just linked, there is also an MSDN article on the topic: In-Process Side-by-Side.Now, even though the major technical impediment seems to be removed, I don’t know if Microsoft is now officially supporting managed extensions to the shell. Either way, I noticed a CodePlex project that is marching ahead to enable exactly that: Managed Mini Shell Extension Framework. • Is there any text editor for windows which can save files with code highlight for viewing

  I want some software for Windows where I can save code snippets and other daily usable commands in one file. Everyday I find some small code snippets which I want to save in a single file. Just like we have code snippet savers online, I want something offline on Windows, basically with all the features Microsoft Word has, but with code highlight. It should be lightweight like Notepad++. I mean if I select the code and then press some button, it should change the color according to the language. Currently I use Notepad++, but in it, I can't select small code snippets on one page. It either highlights the entire file or nothing.

• Always disable the 8.3 name creation on Windows before installing WebCenter Content or WebLogic Server

  You should always disable the 8.3 name creation feature when installing WebCenter Content on a Windows platform. The installs will normally work without it disabled, but you will find the weird 8.3 file and directory names in all the config files. Disabling it can also improve performance. On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and above you can do it with this command: fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 1 To make sure it is disabled you can run this command to check: fsutil.exe behavior query disable8dot3 If the 8.3 file name creation is disabled you will see the following output from the command: The registry state of NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is 1 (Disable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes). • Copying logins to another server

  I'm busy setting up a new server to replace our main live server and part of that is to get the logins copied over. The database users will come over when I restore the databases but I wanted to get the logins they relate to, with the same SIDs, passwords and other properties as they have on the current server. In fact I don't even know the passwords for the logins created by our Sage accounting package - apparently they are generated by the setup using a number of ingredients unique to each installation. I did some Googling and fount this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918992/, which more or less did the trick. It produces a set of CREATE LOGIN statements with the SIDs and hashed passwords. But it didn't include the default language, which can subtly or dramatically alter the behaviour of date-related SQL. So I added that bit and you can help yourself here.

• How to setup AD group to work with SharePoint group security

  Issue: Recently, I am having issues with the permission setup at client side. The way we setup permission is we create AD Group and add the add AD Group to the proper SharePoint Group. If we need to grant permission to a user, we then add the user to the correct AD group. But end user reports that by adding a user to an AD group, this user does not have any access to the SharePoint site. Solution: Change the AD Group scope from Global to Universal fix the problem. • Use adapter pattern for coupled classes

  I need (for unit testing purposes) to create adapters for external library classes.ExchangeService and ContactsFolder are Microsoft's implementations in its' EWS library. So I created my adapters that implement my interfaces, but it seems that contactsFolder has a dependency for ExchangeService in its' constructor. The problem is that I cannot instantiate ContactsFolderAdapter without somehow accessing the actual ExchangeService instance (I see only ExchangeServiceAdapter in scope). Is there a better pattern for this that retains the adapter classes? Or should I "infect" ExchangeServiceAdapter with some kind of GetActualObject method?

  Hello folks,Recently I was involved in Installation and Configuration of Team Foundation Server 2010 Farm for a client. A month after the installation and configuration was done and everything was working as it was supposed to, Microsoft released Team Foundation Server 2012 in mid August 2012. Well the company was using Borland Starteam as their source control and once starting to use TFS 2010, their developers and project managers were loving it since TFS is not just a source control tool and way much better then StarTeam.   In Google Webmaster Tools, I noticed that my front page was indexed two times: example.com/ example.com/?chocaid=397 I know that I could fix this with the use of link type canonical, but I wonder: Where does this parameter come from? There are various sites that have pages indexed with this very parameter/value: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=chocaid%3D397. I looked for similarities between these sites. but couldn't find a conclusive one: It's often the front page, but not in every case. Some are NSFW, but not all.
