• Problem Binding to a Brush Property in WPF

- by Krisc
Working in WPF, writing a custom user control. I am trying to change the background property of the Border element when I change the value of a property of the class. Right now I am working on simply binding it to a DP, though if there is a better way I am open to suggestions. Here is the XAML for the UserControl <UserControl x:Class="MyProject.MyControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:js="clr-namespace:MyProject" mc:Ignorable="d" x:Name="MyControlRootLayout" Background="Transparent" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="300" Cursor="Hand"> <Border x:Name="RootBorder" Background="{Binding Path=CoreBackground, ElementName=MyControlRootLayout}" > </Border> </UserControl> And the code... public partial class MyControl : UserControl { public static DependencyProperty IsSelectedProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("IsSelected", typeof(bool), typeof(MyControl)); public static DependencyProperty CoreBackgroundProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("CoreBackground", typeof(Brush), typeof(MyControl)); public MyControl() { CoreBackground = new SolidColorBrush(Color.FromArgb(0, 255, 245, 104)); InitializeComponent(); Margin = new Thickness(5); } public Brush CoreBackground { get { return (Brush)GetValue(CoreBackgroundProperty); } set { SetValue(CoreBackgroundProperty, value); } } public bool IsSelected { get { return (bool)GetValue(IsSelectedProperty); } private set { SetValue(IsSelectedProperty, value); } } } Instead, the background comes out as transparent.

• Open new UserControl in the mainWindows

- by user287964
Hi I have this snippet public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ToggleButton_Checked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { switch ((sender as Button).Content.ToString()) { case "UserControl 1": AddItemToContainer(new UserControl1()); break; case "UserControl 2": AddItemToContainer(new UserControl2()); break; case "UserControl 3": AddItemToContainer(new UserControl3()); break; default: break; } } void AddItemToContainer(UIElement _myElement) { Grid.SetColumn(_myElement, 1); HostContainer.Children.Add(_myElement); } } } } With this I can open a new userControl in myMainwindow Let’s say something like adding child to myMainWinodw,Now I’m trying to click on a button from my userControl so I open another userControl that take the place of the first one I explain: I have the mainWindows it has 3 button first one to open the first UserControl the second one to open the second userControl and the third to open the last UserControl,imagine that I opened the first UserControl let’s call it UC1, In the UC1 I have a button to open the second userControl (let’s call it UC2) I like that when I clik the button from the UC1 the UC2 is opened and take the place of the UC1 (of course the UC2 is still a child of myMainWinodw) I have alredy try to call the AddItemToContainer methode from other methode but nothing is happened Any suggestion please

• Asynchronous Controller is blocking requests in ASP.NET MVC through jQuery

- by Jason
I have just started using the AsyncController in my project to take care of some long-running reports. Seemed ideal at the time since I could kick off the report and then perform a few other actions while waiting for it to come back and populate elements on the screen. My controller looks a bit like this. I tried to use a thread to perform the long task which I'd hoped would free up the controller to take more requests: public class ReportsController : AsyncController { public void LongRunningActionAsync() { AsyncManager.OutstandingOperations.Increment(); var newThread = new Thread(LongTask); newThread.Start(); } private void LongTask() { // Do something that takes a really long time //....... AsyncManager.OutstandingOperations.Decrement(); } public ActionResult LongRunningActionCompleted(string message) { // Set some data up on the view or something... return View(); } public JsonResult AnotherControllerAction() { // Do a quick task... return Json("..."); } } But what I am finding is that when I call LongRunningAction using the jQuery ajax request, any further requests I make after that back up behind it and are not processed until LongRunningAction completes. For example, call LongRunningAction which takes 10 seconds and then call AnotherControllerAction which is less than a second. AnotherControllerAction simply waits until LongRunningAction completes before returning a result. I've also checked the jQuery code, but this still happens if I specifically set "async: true": $.ajax({ async: true, type: "POST", url: "/Reports.aspx/LongRunningAction", dataType: "html", success: function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { // ... }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { // ... } }); At the moment I just have to assume that I'm using it incorrectly, but I'm hoping one of you guys can clear my mental block!

• Calling base class constructor

- by The Void
In the program below, is the line Derived(double y): Base(), y_(y) correct/allowed? That is, does it follow ANSI rules? #include <iostream> class Base { public: Base(): x_(0) { std::cout << "Base default constructor called" << std::endl; } Base(int x): x_(x) { std::cout << "Base constructor called with x = " << x << std::endl; } void display() const { std::cout << x_ << std::endl; } protected: int x_; }; class Derived: public Base { public: Derived(): Base(1), y_(1.2) { std::cout << "Derived default constructor called" << std::endl; } Derived(double y): Base(), y_(y) { std::cout << "Derived constructor called with y = " << y << std::endl; } void display() const { std::cout << Base::x_ << ", " << y_ << std::endl; } private: double y_; }; int main() { Base b1; b1.display(); Derived d1; d1.display(); std::cout << std::endl; Base b2(-9); b2.display(); Derived d2(-8.7); d2.display(); return 0; }

• C# generics with MVVM, pulling the T out of <T>

- by bufferz
My Model is a generic class that contains a (for example) Value property which can be int, float, string, bool, etc. So naturally this class is represented something like Model<T>. For the sake of collections Model<T> implements the interface IModel, although IModel is itself empty of any content. My ViewModel contains and instance of Model<T> and it is passed in through ViewModel's constructor. I still want to know what T is in ViewModel, so when I expose Model to the View I know the datatype of Model's buried Value property. The class for ViewModel ends up looking like the following: class ViewModel<T> { private Model<T> _model; public ViewModel(Model<T> model) { ....blah.... } public T ModelsValue {get; set; } } This works fine, but is limited. So now I need to expose a collection of IModels with varying Ts to my View, so I'm trying to set up an ObservableCollection of new ViewModel<T>s to a changing list of IModels. The problem is, I can't figure out how to get T from Model<T> from IModel to construct ViewModel<T>(Model<T>) at runtime. In the VS2010 debugger I can mouseover any IModel object and see its full Model<int> for example at runtime so I know the data is in there. Any ideas?

• How to retrieve data from a dialog box?

- by Ralph
Just trying to figure out an easy way to either pass or share some data between the main window and a dialog box. I've got a collection of variables in my main window that I want to pass to a dialog box so that they can be edited. They way I've done it now, is I pass in the list to the constructor of the dialog box: private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { var window = new VariablesWindow(_templateVariables); window.Owner = this; window.ShowDialog(); if(window.DialogResult == true) _templateVariables = new List<Variable>(window.Variables); } And then in there, I guess I need to deep-copy the list, public partial class VariablesWindow : Window { public ObservableCollection<Variable> Variables { get; set; } public VariablesWindow(IEnumerable<Variable> vars) { Variables = new ObservableCollection<Variable>(vars); // ... So that when they're edited, it doesn't get reflected back in the main window until the user actually hits "Save". Is that the correct approach? If so, is there an easy way to deep-copy an ObservableCollection? Because as it stands now, I think my Variables are being modified because it's only doing a shallow-copy.

• Automating Excel through the PIA makes VBA go squiffy.

- by Jon Artus
I have absolutely no idea how to start diagnosing this, and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I'm generating an Excel spreadsheet by calling some Macros from a C# application, and during the generation process it somehow breaks. I've got a VBA class containing all of my logging/error-handling logic, which I instantiate using a singleton-esque accessor, shown here: Private mcAppFramework As csys_ApplicationFramework Public Function AppFramework() As csys_ApplicationFramework If mcAppFramework Is Nothing Then Set mcAppFramework = New csys_ApplicationFramework Call mcAppFramework.bInitialise End If Set AppFramework = mcAppFramework End Function The above code works fine before I've generated the spreadsheet, but afterwards fails. The problem seems to be the following line; Set mcAppFramework = New csys_ApplicationFramework which I've never seen fail before. If I add a watch to the variable being assigned here, the type shows as csys_ApplicationFramework/wksFoo, where wksFoo is a random worksheet in the same workbook. What seems to be happening is that while the variable is of the right type, rather than filling that slot with a new instance of my framework class, it's making it point to an existing worksheet instead, the equivalent of Set mcAppFramework = wksFoo which is a compiler error, as one might expect. Even more bizarrely, if I put a breakpoint on the offending line, edit the line, and then resume execution, it works. For example, I delete the word 'New' move off the line, move back, re-type 'New' and resume execution. This somehow 'fixes' the workbook and it works happily ever after, with the type of the variable in my watch window showing as csys_ApplicationFramework/csys_ApplicationFramework as I'd expect. This implies that manipulating the workbook through the PIA is somehow breaking it temporarily. All I'm doing in the PIA is opening the workbook, calling several macros using Excel.Application.Run(), and saving it again. I can post a few more details if anyone thinks that it's relevant. I don't know how VBA creates objects behind the scenes or how to debug this. I also don't know how the way the code executes can change without the code itself changing. As previously mentioned, VBA has frankly gone a bit squiffy on me... Any thoughts?

• a basic issue in implementing validations through properties ? Please guide me.

- by haansi
hello, thanks for your attention and time. I want to implement validations in settter of properties. Here is an issue where your expert help is required please. I have idea of how I will do validations before setting value. but not getting what to do if passed value is not correct. Just not setting is not a acceptable solution as I want to return an appropriate message to user (in a label in web form). My example code is: private int id; public int Id { get { return id; } set { bool result = IsNumber(value); if (result==false) { // What to do if passed data is not valid ? how to give a appropriate message to user that what is wrong ? } id = value; } } A thought was to use return but it is not allowed. Throwing error looks not good as generally we avoid thorwing custom errors. Please guide and help me. thanks in anticipation haansi

• C# Timer -- measuring time slower

- by Fassenkugel
I'm writing a code where: I.) The user adds "events" during run-time. (To a flowlayoutpanel) These events are turning some LEDs on/off, after "x" time has elapsed and the LED-turning functions are written in a Led-function.cs class. i.e: 1) Turn left led on After 3500ms 2) Turn right led on After 4000ms II.) When the user hits start a timer starts. // Create timer. System.Timers.Timer _timer; _timer = new System.Timers.Timer(); _timer.Interval = (1); _timer.Elapsed += (sender, e) => { HandleTimerElapsed(LedObject, device, _timer); }; _timer.Start(); III.) The timer's tick event is raised every millisecond and checks if the user definied time has ellapsed. Im measuring the elapsed time with adding +1 to an integer at every tick event. (NumberOfTicks++;) //Timer Handle private void HandleTimerElapsed(Led_Functions LedObject, string device, System.Timers.Timer _timer) { NumberOfTicks++; if (NumberOfTicks >= Start_time[0]) { LedObject.LeftLED_ONnobutton(device); } } IV.) What I noticed was that when the tick was set to 1. (So the tick event is raised every millisecond) Even if I set 3000ms to the evet the LED actually flashed around 6 seconds. When the tick was set to 100. (So every 0,1s) then the flash was more accurate (3,5sec or so). Any Ideas why im having this delay in time? Or do you have any ideas how could I implement it better? Thank you!

• Java Generics error when implementing Hibernate message interpolator

- by Jayaprakash
Framework: Spring, Hibernate. O/S: Windows I am trying to implement hibernate's Custom message interpolator following the direction of this Link. When implementing the below class, it gives an error "Cannot make a static reference to the non-static type Locale". public class ClientLocaleThreadLocal<Locale> { private static ThreadLocal tLocal = new ThreadLocal(); public static void set(Locale locale) { tLocal.set(locale); } public static Locale get() { return tLocal.get(); } public static void remove() { tLocal.remove(); } } As I do not know generics enough, not sure how is being used by TimeFilter class below and the purpose of definition in the above class. public class TimerFilter implements Filter { public void destroy() { } public void doFilter(ServletRequest req, ServletResponse res, FilterChain filterChain) throws IOException, ServletException { try { ClientLocaleThreadLocal.set(req.getLocale()); filterChain.doFilter(req, res); }finally { ClientLocaleThreadLocal.remove(); } } public void init(FilterConfig arg0) throws ServletException { } } Will doing the following be okay? Change static method/field in ClientLocaleThreadLocal to non-static method/fields In TimeFilter, set locale by instantiating new object as below. new ClientLocaleThreadLocal().set(req.getLocale()) Thanks for your help in advance

• Android: Gzip/Http supported by default?

Does my Code already support Gzip (maybe this is already done by android and not by my java program) or do I have to add/change smth.? How can I check that it's using Gzip? • Using array of Action() in a lambda expression

- by Sean87
I want to do some performance measurement for a method that does some work with int arrays, so I wrote the following class: public class TimeKeeper { public TimeSpan Measure(Action[] actions) { var watch = new Stopwatch(); watch.Start(); foreach (var action in actions) { action(); } return watch.Elapsed; } } But I can not call the Measure mehotd for the example below: var elpased = new TimeKeeper(); elpased.Measure( () => new Action[] { FillArray(ref a, "a", 10000), FillArray(ref a, "a", 10000), FillArray(ref a, "a", 10000) }); I get the following errors: Cannot convert lambda expression to type 'System.Action[]' because it is not a delegate type Cannot implicitly convert type 'void' to 'System.Action' Cannot implicitly convert type 'void' to 'System.Action' Cannot implicitly convert type 'void' to 'System.Action' Here is the method that works with arrays: private void FillArray(ref int[] array, string name, int count) { array = new int[count]; for (int i = 0; i < array.Length; i++) { array[i] = i; } Console.WriteLine("Array {0} is now filled up with {1} values", name, count); } What I am doing wrong?

• Function returning pointer to struct

• WPF: issue updating UI from background thread

- by Ted Shaffer
My code launches a background thread. The background thread makes changes and wants the UI in the main thread to update. The code that launches the thread then waits looks something like: Thread fThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(PerformSync)); fThread.IsBackground = true; fThread.Start(); fThread.Join(); MessageBox.Show("Synchronization complete"); When the background wants to update the UI, it sets a StatusMessage and calls the code below: static StatusMessage _statusMessage; public delegate void AddStatusDelegate(); private void AddStatus() { AddStatusDelegate methodForUIThread = delegate { _statusMessageList.Add(_statusMessage); }; this.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(methodForUIThread, System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherPriority.Send); } _statusMessageList is an ObservableCollection that is the source for a ListBox. The AddStatus method is called but the code on the main thread never executes - that is, _statusMessage is not added to _statusMessageList while the thread is executing. However, once it is complete (fThread.Join() returns), all the stacked up calls on the main thread are executed. But, if I display a message box between the calls to fThread.Start() and fThread.Join(), then the status messages are updated properly. What do I need to change so that the code in the main thread executes (UI updates) while waiting for the thread to terminate? Thanks.

• How to perform a Depth First Search iteratively using async/parallel processing?

- by Prabhu
Here is a method that does a DFS search and returns a list of all items given a top level item id. How could I modify this to take advantage of parallel processing? Currently, the call to get the sub items is made one by one for each item in the stack. It would be nice if I could get the sub items for multiple items in the stack at the same time, and populate my return list faster. How could I do this (either using async/await or TPL, or anything else) in a thread safe manner? private async Task<IList
> GetItemsAsync(string topItemId) { var items = new List
(); var topItem = await GetItemAsync(topItemId); Stack
stack = new Stack
(); stack.Push(topItem); while (stack.Count > 0) { var item = stack.Pop(); items.Add(item); var subItems = await GetSubItemsAsync(item.SubId); foreach (var subItem in subItems) { stack.Push(subItem); } } return items; } EDIT: I was thinking of something along these lines, but it's not coming together: var tasks = stack.Select(async item => { items.Add(item); var subItems = await GetSubItemsAsync(item.SubId); foreach (var subItem in subItems) { stack.Push(subItem); } }).ToList(); if (tasks.Any()) await Task.WhenAll(tasks); UPDATE: If I wanted to chunk the tasks, would something like this work? foreach (var batch in items.BatchesOf(100)) { var tasks = batch.Select(async item => { await DoSomething(item); }).ToList(); if (tasks.Any()) { await Task.WhenAll(tasks); } } The language I'm using is C#.

when saving an object to database using hibernate, sometimes it fails because certain fields of the object exceed the maximum varchar length defined in the database. There force I am using the following approach: 1. attempt to save 2. if getting an DataException, then I truncate the fields in the object to the max length specified in the db definition, then try to save again. However, in the second save after truncation. • Storing records in a dropdownlist from DB without using LINQ Data source

- by user1318369
I have a website for dance academy where Users can register and add/drop dance classes. In the web page to drop a particular dance, for a particular user, the dropdown displays her registered dances. Now I want to delete one of the dances from the list. So i'll remove the row from the table and also from the dropdownlist. The problem is that everytime the item with the lowest ID (index) is getting deleted, no matter which one the user selects. I think I am storing the DataTextField and DataValueField for the dropdown incorrectly. Can someone please help me out? The code is: private void PopulateDanceDropDown() { var registereddanceList = from dd in context.DANCER_AND_DANCE where dd.UserId == dancerId select new { Text = dd.DanceName, Value = dd.DanceId }; dances.DataSource = registereddanceList; dances.DataTextField = "Text"; dances.DataValueField = "Value"; dances.DataBind(); } protected void dropthedance(object o, EventArgs e) { String strDataValueField = dances.SelectedItem.Value; int danceIDFromDropDown = Convert.ToInt32(strDataValueField); var dancer_dance = from dd in context.DANCER_AND_DANCE where dd.DanceId == danceIDFromDropDown select dd; foreach (var dndd in dancer_dance) { context.DANCER_AND_DANCE.DeleteOnSubmit(dndd); } try { context.SubmitChanges(); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex); } PopulateDanceDropDown(); }

• Does Spring MVC form submit data bind children objects automagically?

- by predhme
I have a data model that is something like this: public class Report { // report owner private User user; ... typical getter setter ... } public class User { ... omitted for clarity } What happens is when a report is created, the current user is set to the report user object. When the report is edited, the spring controller handling the POST request is receiving a report where the user object is null. Here is what my controller looks like: @Controller @RequestMapping("/report") public class ReportController { @RequestMapping(value = "/edit/{id}", method = RequestMethod.GET) public String editReport(@PathVariable Long id, Model model) { Report r = backend.getReport(id); // fully loads object model.addAttribute("report", report); return "report/edit"; } @RequestMapping(value = "/edit/{id}", method = RequestMethod.POST) public String process(@ModelAttribute("report") Report r) { backend.save(r); return "redirect:/report/show" + r.getId(); } } I ran things throw the debugger and it looks like in the editReport method the model object is storing the fully loaded report object (I can see the user inside the report). On the form jsp I can do the following: ${report.user.username} and the correct result is rendered. However, when I look at the debugger in the process method, the passed in Report r has a null user. I don't need to do any special data binding to ensure that information is retained do I?

I have the following function public Dictionary<DateTime, object> GetAttributeList( EnumFactorType attributeType ,Thomson.Financial.Vestek.Util.DateRange dateRange) { DateTime startDate = dateRange.StartDate; DateTime endDate = dateRange.EndDate; return (( //Step 1: Iterate over the attribute list and filter the records by // the supplied attribute type from assetAttribute in AttributeCollection where assetAttribute.AttributeType.Equals(attributeType) //Step2:Assign the TimeSeriesData collection into a temporary variable let timeSeriesList = assetAttribute.TimeSeriesData //Step 3: Iterate over the TimeSeriesData list and filter the records by // the supplied date from timeSeries in timeSeriesList.ToList() where timeSeries.Key >= startDate && timeSeries.Key <= endDate //Finally build the needed collection select new AssetAttribute() { TimeSeriesData = PopulateTimeSeriesData(timeSeries.Key, timeSeries.Value) }).ToList<AssetAttribute>().Select(i => i.TimeSeriesData)); } private Dictionary<DateTime, object> PopulateTimeSeriesData(DateTime dateTime, object value) { Dictionary<DateTime, object> timeSeriesData = new Dictionary<DateTime, object>(); timeSeriesData.Add(dateTime, value); return timeSeriesData; } Error:Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' to 'System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) Using C#3.0 Please help

• C Static Function Confusion

- by Lime
I am trying to make the s_cord_print function visible in the cord_s.c file only. Currently the function is visible/runnable in main.c even when it is declared static. How do I make the s_cord_print function private to cord_s.c? Thanks! s_cord.c typedef struct s_cord{ int x; int y; struct s_cord (*print)(); } s_cord; void* VOID_THIS; #define $(EL) VOID_THIS=&EL;EL static s_cord s_cord_print(){ struct s_cord *THIS; THIS = VOID_THIS; printf("(%d,%d)\n",THIS->x,THIS->y); return *THIS; } const s_cord s_cord_default = {1,2,s_cord_print}; main.c #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include "s_cord.c" int main(){ s_cord mycord = s_cord_default; mycord.x = 2; mycord.y = 3; $(mycord).print().print(); //static didn't seem to hide the function s_cord_print(); return 0; } ~

• Subitems are not all added to a list view in C# using XmlNodeList

- by tim
I'm working on extracting data from an RSS feed. In my listview (rowNews), I've got two columns: Title and URL. When the button is clicked, all of the titles of the articles are showing up in the title column, but only one URL is added to the URL column. I switched them around so that the URLs would be added to the first column and all of the correct URLs appeared... leading me to think this is a problem with my listview source (it's my first time working with subitems). Here's the original, before I started experimenting with the order: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { XmlTextReader rssReader = new XmlTextReader(txtUrl.Text); XmlDocument rssDoc = new XmlDocument(); rssDoc.Load(rssReader); XmlNodeList titleList = rssDoc.GetElementsByTagName("title"); XmlNodeList urlList = rssDoc.GetElementsByTagName("link"); ListViewItem lvi = new ListViewItem(); for (int i = 0; i < titleList.Count; i++) { rowNews.Items.Add(titleList[i].InnerXml); } for (int i = 0; i < urlList.Count; i++) { lvi.SubItems.Add(urlList[i].InnerXml); } rowNews.Items.Add(lvi); }

• In ArrayBlockingQueue, why copy final member field into local final variable?

- by mjlee
In ArrayBlockingQueue, any method that requires lock will get set 'final' local variable before calling 'lock()'. public boolean offer(E e) { if (e == null) throw new NullPointerException(); final ReentrantLock lock = this.lock; lock.lock(); try { if (count == items.length) return false; else { insert(e); return true; } } finally { lock.unlock(); } } Is there any reason to set a local variable 'lock' from 'this.lock' when field 'this.lock' is final also. Additionally, it also set local variable of E[] before acting on. private E extract() { final E[] items = this.items; E x = items[takeIndex]; items[takeIndex] = null; takeIndex = inc(takeIndex); --count; notFull.signal(); return x; } Is there any reason for copying to local final variable?

• Why does the roll_out event fire in this code?

- by user339681
I have made this simple example to demonstrate some problems I'm having. <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute"> <mx:Canvas id="buttonCanvas" x="100" y="100" opaqueBackground="#000000" width="80%" height="300" creationComplete="init(event)"> <mx:Button x="5" y="5"/> <mx:Button x="5" y="50"/> </mx:Canvas> <mx:Script> private function init(event:Event):void{ buttonCanvas.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, function(event:Event):void{ buttonCanvas.opaqueBackground=(buttonCanvas.opaqueBackground==0)? 0x666666:0; }); } </mx:Script> </mx:Application> I don't understand the following: Why doesn't the percentage nor absolute dimensions affect the canvas? Why does the roll_out event fire when the mouse leaves a button (even when it is still inside the canvas). I'm going nuts trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
