• How do you verify the correct data is in a data mart?

  I'm working on a data warehouse and I'm trying to figure out how to best verify that data from our data cleansing (normalized) database makes it into our data marts correctly. I've done some searches, but the results so far talk more about ensuring things like constraints are in place and that you need to do data validation during the ETL process (E.g. dates are valid, etc.). The dimensions were pretty easy as I could easily either leverage the primary key or write a very simple and verifiable query to get the data. The fact tables are more complex. Any thoughts? We're trying to make this very easy for a subject matter export to run a couple queries, see some data from both the data cleansing database and the data marts, and visually compare the two to ensure they are correct.

When I am designing a query, the first thing I write is a nested query. Then I convert it to joins, which sometimes takes a lot of time to get right.   Hi, With sifr, how do I make a font use the light weight version. I have... var gillsans = { src: '/resources/swf/gillsans.swf' }; sIFR.activate(gillsans); sIFR.replace(gillsans, { selector: 'h1', css: '.sIFR-root { background-color: #FFFFFF; color: #000000; text-transform:uppercase; }' }); which is displaying regular Gill Sans, the light version has been exported with the swf (said so in the export report), but how do I get it to display in sifr?

• How do I chain forms in Access? (pass values between them)

  Hello, I'm using Access 2007 and have a data model like this... Passenger - Bookings - Destinations So 1 Passenger can have Many Bookings, each for 1 Destinations. My problem... I can create a form to allow the entry of Passenger details, but I then want to add a NEXT button to take me to a form to enter the details of the Booking (i.e. just a simple drop list of the Destinations). I've added the NEXT button and it has the events of RunCommand SaveRecord OpenForm Destination_form BUT, I cant work out how to pass accross to the new form the primary key of the passenger that was just entered (PassengerID). I'd really like to have just one form, and that allow the entry of the Passenger details and the selection of a Destination, that then creates the entries in the 2 Tables (Passenger & Bookings), but I can't get that to work either. • Strategy in storing ad-hoc numbers/constants?

  I have a need to store a number of ad-hoc figures and constants for calculation. These numbers change periodically but they are different type of values. One might be a balance, a money amount, another might be an interest rate, and yet another might be a ratio of some kind. These numbers are then used in a calculation that involve other more structured figures. I'm not certain what the best way to store these in a relational DB is - that's the choice of storage for the app. One way, I've done before, is to create a very generic table that stores the values as text. I might store the data type along with it but the consumer knows what type it is so, in situations I didn't even need to store the data type. This kind of works fine but I am not very fond of the solution. Should I break down each of the numbers into specific categories and create tables that way? For example, create Rates table, and Balances table, etc.?

• How can I force input to uppercase in an asp.net textbox?

  I'm writing an asp.net application. I have a textbox on a webform and I want to force whatever the user types to upper case. I'd like to do this on the front end. You should also note that there is a validation control on this textbox, so I want to make sure the solution doesn't interfere with the asp.net validation. Clarification: It appears that the CSS text-tranform makes the user input appear in uppercase, however under the hood, it's still lower case as the validation control fails. You see, my validation control checks to see if a valid state code is entered, however the regex expression I"m using only works with uppercase characters.

• Python - which multi platform GUI framework to use?

  Hi, I've written a Python GUI application and made it run on Linux, Windows and Mac. The framework I'm using is PyGtk. The final result is not really good: the application looks horrible on Mac, and it is not really 'native' neither on Windows. Furthermore on Mac the windows' behavior is sometimes wrong, with modal dialogs appearing below the main windows. I've explored other frameworks and I've found that a porting may be really hard: PyQt it is huge, difficult to install and to distribute under Mac; PyGui is poor: I need tables and tree views at least; wxPython state explicitly that you have to use a custom python build for Mac Tkinter: didn't check it, only have the impression that it is obsolete I know this question may appear similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/394039/which-python-gui-framework but in that thread the portability issue is not really taken in account. Windows and Mac are a must, since most of my user have that systems. Can you also suggest some books?

• jquery clickling fast

  Hi. I have this function, that adds 31px to my style bottom on ul. It works fine, but if I click fast, it no longer adds 31px, but some weird number like 17.423px. I guess it's because the animation isn't done, and thereby by clicking fast it adds 31px to the current px amount. My thought is that I need to insert a stop(). But where? • Puttting together binding navigators in a project

  I am working on a group project in vb.net, in which all my team members are working on individual tables of a database. All of us are using binding navigator,where the GUI is created by drag and drop from the table. Is it possible to attach all these pieces together with imports or references? Will the changes made to the database while working on the program like table adapter can create problem? Do I need to make all those changes in database before importing ? • IN statement performance in PostgreSQL (and in general)

  I know this has probably been asked before, but I can't find it with SO's search. Lets say i've TABLE1 and TABLE2, who should I expect the performance of a query such as this: SELECT * FROM TABLE1 WHERE id IN SUBQUERY_ON_TABLE2; as the number of rows in TABLE1 and TABLE2 grow and id is a primary key on TABLE1. Yes, I know using IN is such a n00b mistake, but TABLE2 has a generic relation (django generic relation) to multiple other tables so I can't think of another way to filter the data. At what (aproximate) ammount of rows in TABLE1 and TABLE2 should I expect to notice performance issues because of this? Will performance degrade linearly, exponentially etc. depending on the number of rows?

  This question is an extension of a previous one I have asked. I have a table (2014_05_31_transformed.Video) with a schema that looks like this. I have put up the JSON returned by the BigQuery API describing it's schema in this gist. I am trying to create a view against this table with an API call that looks like this: { 'view': { 'query': u 'SELECT deleted_mod_time FROM [2014_05_31_transformed.Video]' }, 'tableReference': { 'datasetId': 'latest_transformed', 'tableId': u 'Video', 'projectId': 'redacted' } } But, the BigQuery API is returning this error: HttpError: https://www.googleapis.com/bigquery/v2/projects/124072386181/datasets/latest_transformed/tables?alt=json returned "Invalid field name "deleted_mod_time.usec". Fields must contain only letters, numbers, and underscores, start with a letter or underscore, and be at most 128 characters long." The schema that the BigQuery API does not make any distinction between a TIMESTAMP data type and a regular nullable INTEGER data type, so I can't think of a way to programmatically correct this problem. Is there anything I can do, or is this a bug with BigQuery's view implementation?

• Separation of static and dynamic content in Java EE applications

  We work with IBM products and we typically use IBM Http Servers (read Apache) as a reverse proxy for our application servers. For performance reasons we serve static content (.gif, .jpg, .css, .html etc.) from our http servers, to ease the burden a bit from the application server. So far, we have to distribute files to http server and configure it manually (writing custom scripts at best.) The problem is the effort needed to keep everything in synch, especially when you need to update the app. Does any Java EE product support this “out of the box”? Is there a way to have application server do this automatically, like in cluster configuration for example, where master node is in charge of distributing the application to other nodes and for keeping everything in synch.

  I'm trying to get the back-ground image of a legacy div (by which I mean it already has a background image, which I cannot control & thus have to initially over-write) to smoothly rotate indefinitely. • JavaScript socket vs. Flash socket?

  Steve Jobs just posted this article on why Apple rejects Flash... http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ I agree that javascript and css can be used to replicate some of Flash's animation, though Flash does all sorts of scaling and tweening that is incredibly powerful, and I'm not sure that there's anything comparable in javascript, if there is, I certainly haven't seen it. However, my question is about the socket. Flash has an incredibly powerful openSocket class that allows you to connect to a server and have the server and the client talk back and forth to one another. As far as I know there is no equivalent class in Javascript. Am I mistaken? Is there some secret mystery Ajax class that replicates the openSocket? If not, then that feature alone makes Flash an invaluable tool. I'm interested in all answers though... and yes this IS a programming question! :)

I'm trying to save it, but I cannot redeclare the "entity" below. How do I do it? I've tried releasing it, but that didn't work!   This may be a silly question, but it may shed some light on how joins work internally. Let's say I have a large table L and a small table S (100K rows vs. 100 rows). Would there be any difference in terms of speed between the following two options?: OPTION 1: OPTION 2: --------- --------- SELECT * SELECT * FROM L INNER JOIN S FROM S INNER JOIN L ON L.id = S.id; ON L.id = S.id; Notice that the only difference is the order in which the tables are joined. I realize performance may vary between different SQL languages. If so, how would MySQL compare to Access?

• Safe to KILL a mysql process REPLACEing records in a large myisam table?

  I have a REPLACE query running for a few days now on a few MyISAM tables, the largest having 20+million records. I need it to stop. It is, basically: REPLACE INTO really_large_table (a,b,c,d) SELECT e,f,g,h FROM big_table INNER JOIN huge_table ON big_table.x LIKE CONCAT('%', huge_table.y, '%'); I need to KILL it, and I am worried that I may corrupt really_large_table. Because the sub-query itself takes a significant amount of time, the REPLACEing probably occurs (relatively) infrequently; if this is true, does this make it less likely for the data to become corrupted?   I want to create a nice pagination in Jquery for a number of divs I have. EG: <div class="container"> <div id="one">content</div> <div id="two">content</div> <div id="three">content</div> <div id="four">content</div> </div> The number will not always be the same so I need to count the divs, and display a pagination like the one below. 1|2|3|4 Clicking on the page number would display the relevant div. I know how to show and hide elements using Jquery and css and have figured out I can count the divs using var numPages = $('.container').size(); but I can't work out how I can display the pagination. Any pointers?

My needs are: Able to put a PDF/EPS/... as a background Absolute positioning Able to define tables, lists Able to rotate blocks Reasonably easy syntax (will be used to automatically generate many similar looking documents) Easily usable from Python Free or very cheap In essence I'm looking for the tool X that is to OODraw/CorelDraw/... as LaTeX is to OOWrite/MS Word. I've looked at webkit2pdf and a headless OODraw, but both seem a bit of an overkill. XML-FO has some limitations such as not being able to predict how many pages your document spans. Reportlab is pricey. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Table Disobeys W3C Box Model, Ie8 Ignores Fixed Table Width !

  Hi, I'm having hard time with tables and column widths. Update: I'm using XHTML Strict 1.0. The page is: http://www.pro-turk.net/try The first problem I have is, I have a column with a fixed width of 100px and 4px padding, but it disobeys my padding depending on the value. The column width (as the distance between two borders according to W3C Box Model) is 156 px even if padding is 0 or 4. Only the position of the text changes. According to W3C Box Model ( available at www.pro-turk.net/box_model.png ), borders and paddings aren't included in WIDTH attribute, so why does it render wrongly ? The second problem is, when you look the page I gave with IE8, the first cell in the second row has 150px fixed width, but ie shows it about 50% of the total table width regardless of what i say.

The fact is that I don't know which are the best tools to produce something serious (I'm talking about web-develop through PHP): Are template engine like Smarty mandatory? Which one is "the best" (the most used, complete, documentated) At the moment I'm developing on Notepad++ (mostly because I find it useful and complete) is there a better development tool? Or is just a matter of personal taste? At the moment I'm studying JQuery and deepening my knowledge as regards CSS what other "mandatory" subjects can you suggest me?
