• Python Textwrap - forcing 'hard' breaks

  I am trying to use textwrap to format an import file that is quite particular in how it is formatted. Basically, it is as follows (line length shortened for simplicity): abcdef <- Ok line abcdef ghijk <- Note leading space to indicate wrapped line lm Now, I have got code to work as follows: wrapper = TextWrapper(width=80, subsequent_indent=' ', break_long_words=True, break_on_hyphens=False) for l in lines: wrapline=wrapper.wrap(l) This works nearly perfectly, however, the text wrapping code doesn't do a hard break at the 80 character mark, it tries to be smart and break on a space (at approx 20 chars in). I have got round this by replacing all spaces in the string list with a unique character (#), wrapping them and then removing the character, but surely there must be a cleaner way? N.B Any possible answers need to work on Python 2.4 - sorry!

  i just had this thought, and was wondering if it's possible to crawl the entire web (just like the big boys!) on a single dedicated server (like Core2Duo, 8gig ram, 750gb disk 100mbps) . I've come across a paper where this was done....but i cannot recall this paper's title. it was like about crawling the entire web on a single dedicated server using some statistical model. Anyways, imagine starting with just around 10,000 seed URLs, and doing exhaustive crawl.... is it possible ? I am in need of crawling the web but limited to a dedicated server. how can i do this, is there an open source solution out there already ? for example see this real time search engine. http://crawlrapidshare.com the results are exteremely good and freshly updated....how are they doing this ?

• How to count toggled buttons in jqueryui after a click event.

  I need to count how many buttons are toggled using the jqueryui checkbox button option - .buttonset(). This needs to happen when a button is toggled. I added a unique class to the labels before applying the button set and have set a click event on it. It fires fine, however it is firing before the jqueryui has processed the click so the result is out of date.   Hi, I'd like to iterate through every element on an iTunes window and try to click on each element. I'd also like to write to a text file showing each element that I've clicked. • Replacing elements within a string in R

  Hi, I have a row in a data frame in R that is made up of sequences of undetermined length of 0s 1s and 2s as characters. So "01", "010", "201", "102", "00012"... things like this. I'd like to find a way to determine if the last character in the string is NUMERICALLY the largest. It's important that I keep the row in the data frame as characters for other purposes. So basically I want to take substr(x, nchar(x), nchar(x)) and determine if it, as a number, is the largest of the numbers in the character string. I'm super lost as to how to do this, since I'm not all that familiar with regular expressions and I have to back and forth between treating elements as characters and numbers.   Here is data structure w/ variables: struct Part_record { char id_no[3]; int qoh; string desc; double price: }; --- (Using "cin" to input data) --- Part_record null_part = {" ", 0," ",0.0}; --- --- file.seekg( -(long)sizeof(Part_record), ios::cur); file.write( ( char *)&part, sizeof(Part_record) ); The three variables, qoh, Id_no & price, write out correctly, but the "desc" variable is not right. Do I need to initialize Part_record some other way? It should be 20 characters in length. If you have enough info here, pls share your advice,thanks.

• jQuery get request against Sinatra does not get text

  I have a very simple sinatra site that I'm trying to access via ajax through jQuery. To keep things incredibly simple, this code snippet: get '/behavior_count' do "60" end which returns "60" in the browser, shows up as an empty string when attempting to access the site via $.get in jQuery. The strange part is in Firebug, while the Response is empty, the HTTP header correctly describes Content-Length as 2, and I can see the request show up on the server. Is there something specific to Sinatra that isn't returning my data, or am I not using jQuery correctly? If it helps, I also tried this code: get '/behavior_count' do content_type 'text/plain', :charset => 'utf-8' "60" end and my jQuery looks like $.get('http://mysite:4567/behavior_count'); // Ignore the response, but // watch the request in firebug Any ideas?

The MANIFEST looks something like: SendMyEmail.pm SendMyEmail/defualt_email.tt Currently I know where the module (and the template) are - but does the module itself know where on disk it is?   What exactly happens, in terms of memory, when i declare something like: char arr[4]; How many bytes are reserved for arr? How is null string accommodated when I 'strcpy' a string of length 4 in arr? I was writing a socket program, and when I tried to suffix NULL at arr[4] (i.e. the 5th memory location), I ended up replacing the values of some other variables of the program (overflow) and got into a big time mess. Any descriptions of how compilers (gcc is what I used) manage memory?

• Streaming data to the browser as a file of unknown size

  I have some data which is queried from the database and I'd like to send it to the client as a csv file. The file size varies each time due to the fact that the DB data returned can be of any size. Instead of saving this file to the hard disk, I'd like to send it to the browser at the same time it's being processed into a CSV by my algorithm. Response.Write seems useless. For some reason, the file download dialog is only displayed once my processing is finished. This seems odd as I'm writting all my output to the Response.Output stream. I have downloaded files on the web before where the filesize is not known and the browser just keeps on downloading. Is there any way to achieve this? When you save to Oracle VARCHAR(15) does Oracle also store this as UTF-16? Does the length of an Oracle VARCHAR refer to number of Unicode characters (and not number of bytes)? And then when we write b to the ServletResponse is this being written as UTF-16 or are we by default converting to another encoding like UTF-8?

  Hello everyone, I have a WCF web service that is deployed at IIS. Part of the web service is to validate the inputs using EntLib 4.1 For ex, the string values can be of specific length and so on. In case of the validation being failed a fault exception is raised and the service is supposed to write the message in log file. How do I go about creating the log file to a location that can be configured from a config file. Basically how do we write messages from IIS (since the service is hosted at IIS, I am assuming that that will be the source !!!!) Regards.

• How can CopyOnWriteArrayList be thread-safe?

  I've taken a look into OpenJDK's sources of CopyOnWriteArrayList and it seems that all write operations are protected by the same lock and read operations are not protected at all. As I understand, under JMM all accesses to a variable (both read and write) should be protected by lock or reordering effects may occur. For example, set(int, E) method contains these lines (under lock): /* 1 */ int len = elements.length; /* 2 */ Object[] newElements = Arrays.copyOf(elements, len); /* 3 */ newElements[index] = element; /* 4 */ setArray(newElements); The get(int) method, on the other hand, only does return get(getArray(), index);. In my understanding of JMM, this means that get may observe the array in an inconsistent state if statements 1-4 are reordered like 1-2(new)-4-2(copyOf)-3. Do I understand JMM incorrectly or is there any other explanations on why CopyOnWriteArrayList is thread-safe?
