  • Regular Expression

    - by equilibrium
Ohh! this regular expression thing is eating my brain up. I have been reading it from Introduction to Automata Theory, Languages and Computer by Hopcroft, Motwani and Ullman. I have solved a few exercises too but could not solve the following even after trying for almost one hr. The problem is to write a regular expression that defines a language consisting of all strings of 0s and 1s except the substring 011. Is the answer (0+1)* - 011 correct ? If not what should be the correct answer for this?

  • Accessing Java Connector Architecture (JCA) from a Non-Managed environment

    - by Paul Kuykendall
Hi, We have been using a JCA to interface with a low-level network resource from within WebSphere, however we have a requirement to be able to access the same network resource externally from Tomcat (i.e. not in a managed environment). The network communication and protocol layouts is very verbose, so we would rather not copy/paste several thousand lines of code (and then have to maintain them separately). From reading the JCA spec, there is supposedly some support to execute the code in a non-managed environment (such as Tomcat). Unfortunately, I have no idea what the interfaces are supposed to do, or how to call them from outside a managed environment (the spec is pretty vague). Are there any implementation examples out there that show how to modify a JCA to be usable in a non-managed environment? Thanks!

  • C++ corrupt my thinking, how to trust auto garbage collector?

    - by SnirD
I use to program mainly with C/C++, that's make me dealing with pointers and memory management daily. This days I'm trying to develop using other tools, such as Java, Python and Ruby. The problem is that I keep thinking C++ style, I'm writing code as C++ usually written in almost every programming language, and the biggest problem is the memory management, I keep writing bad code using references in Java and just get as close as I can to the C++ style. So I need 2 thinks here, one is to trust the garbage collector, let's say by seeing benchmarks and proofs that it's realy working in Java, and know what I should never do in order to get my code the best way it can be. And the second think is knowing how to write other languages code. I mean I know what to do, I'm just never write the code as most Java or Python programmers usually do, are there any books for C++ programmers just to introduce me to the writing conventions? (by the way, forgive me for my English mistakes)

  • How to use Externel Procedures in Triggers on Oracle 11g..

    - by RBA
Hi, I want to fire a trigger whenever an insert command is fired.. The trigger will access a pl/sql file which can change anytime.. So the query is, if we design the trigger, how can we make sure this dynamic thing happens.. As during the stored procedure, it is not workingg.. I think - it should work for 1) External Procedures 2) Execute Statement Please correct me, if I am wrong.. I was working on External Procedures but i am not able to find the way to execute the external procedure from here on.. SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION Plstojavafac_func (N NUMBER) RETURN NUMBER AS 2 LANGUAGE JAVA 3 NAME 'Factorial.J_calcFactorial(int) return int'; 4 / @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER student_after_insert 2 AFTER INSERT 3 ON student 4 FOR EACH ROW How to call the procedure from heree... And does my interpretations are right,, plz suggest.. Thanks.

  • Why do so many people dislike C++?

    - by General K
Beginners and professional, on blogs, in forums and chatrooms - people say it everywhere: C++ oh dear god no The short form of the question: For what reason is C++ so widely disliked and people are horrified by the imagination of using it for some project? I have been using a lot of different languages, including C++ by now, and I can only say that I really like it. I'm far more horrified by Delphi than by C++. Actually, I find it's an almost perfect, compiled language! I've been doing a lot of different projects in C++ as well, ranging from 3D video games to webservers and emulators for old video game consoles. And I still do not see the problem everyone else seems to have with it!

  • PHP editors for Ubuntu

    - by mepo
What are the Light weight PHP editors available for ubuntu? And is there a ubuntu version of the Notepad++ editor. For those who haven't used Notepad++, do not confuse it with Notepad.exe. Notepad.exe is the lightweight Windows editor by Microsoft. Notepad++ is an Open Source programmer's text editor for Windows based on SciTE. It has syntax highlighting, code collapsing, language recognition, macro recording, regular expression search and replace across line breaks and in files on disk, copy filenames and paths to clipboard, and many other advance text editing tools. Only the more full-featured editors for Linux would be likely to be suitable replacements for Notepad++. Thanks

  • using different string files in android

    - by boreas
I'm porting my iPhone app to android and I'm having a problem with the string files now. The app is a translation tool and users can switch the languages, so all the localized strings are in both languages and they are independent from what locale the OS is running. For iOS version I have different files like de.strings, en.strings and fr.strings and so on. For every target with specified language pair I read the strings from the string tables, e.g. for de-fr I will include de.strings and fr.strings in project and set the name of the string tables in the info-list file and read strings from them. In the end I have one project containing different targets (with different info-list files) and all are well configured. I'm intending to do the same on android platform, but Is only one strings.xml allowed per project? How do I set different build target? How do I specify per target which strings.xml it should read?

  • Implement abstract class as a local class? pros and cons

    - by sinec
Hi, for some reason I'm thinking on implementing interface within a some function(method) as local class. Consider following: class A{ public: virtual void MethodToOverride() = 0; }; A * GetPtrToAImplementation(){ class B : public A { public: B(){} ~B(){} void MethodToOverride() { //do something } }; return static_cast<A *>(new B()); } int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { A * aInst = GetPtrToAImplementation(); aInst->MethodToOverride(); delete aInst; return 0; } the reason why I'm doing this are: I'm lazy to implement class (B) in separate files MethodToOverride just delegates call to other class Class B shouldn't be visible to other users no need to worry about deleting aInst since smart pointers are used in real implementation So my question is if I'm doing this right? Thanks in advance!

  • Is it possible to use AutoMapper to map methods?

    - by Woj
    I have two classes: public class TestClass1 { public int TestInt { get; set; } public void TestMethod() { // Do something } } public class TestClass2 { public int TestInt { get; set; } public void TestMethod() { // Do something } } I want to create interface that I can use for both classes. The easiest solution is to implement the interface on TestClass1 and TestClass2 but I don;t have access to the implementation of these classes (external dll). I was wondering if I can create new interface and use AutoMapper to map TestClass1 and TestClass2 to ITestInterface: public interface ITestInterface { int TestInt { get; set; } void TestMethod(); }

  • Request/Response objects

    - by Dan
I'm planning on using CXF's rest implementation. I'm thinking of simply annotating my entity classes with jaxb annotations, such as @XmlRootElement, in order to create response objects. The benefit being avoidance of code duplication. As for the (client) request object, which will be used by a separate web app, I'm thinking of 'copying' the entity classes, removing the orm annotations, and adding jaxb annotations. Based on the above: Are there any dangers of creating request/response objects from entity classes? My entity classes contain relational properties, if I were to annotate them with @XmlRootElement, how can I stop the relational properties from being added (or considered apart of) to the response object? Is there a better/easier way to create request objects rather than copying the entity classes, removing/adding annotations?

  • iOS sdk question: how do I cast a UIView to a UIImage View (alternativly how do I get a UIImageView from a GestureRecognzer?)

    - by user439299
Desired end result: user taps a UIImageView and the image changes to another image (a subsequent tap returns the image to the original state) Problem: I add a (unique) selector to a bunch of UIImageViews (in an array) and point the action at the same function - let's call this function imageTapped: for now. Here is my code so far: -(void)imageTapped:(UITapGestureRecognizer *)tapGesture { UIImageView *view = tapGesture.view; // rest of code... } This code actually works fine but gets a warning when I run it: "Incompatible objective c types initilizing 'struct UIView *', expected 'struct UIImageView *' Any way to get rid of this? Not sure how casting works in objective c... primitive types seem to work fine such as (int)someFloat works fine but (UIImageView)someUiView doesn't work. Like I said, code works alright when I run it but would like to get ride of the compiler warning. Any help would be awesome.... I am very new to objective c (or any non java language for that matter) so be gentle. Thanks in advance.

  • Will PHP script running on top of Apache be faster than C# stand alloun programm doing same thing (s

    - by Ole Jak
I mean PHP scripts on Apache are oriented for many users to use tham at the same time. So will 1000 requests which came at the (relativly) same time be fully responsed faster than C# .Net programm perfoming algorithm 1000 times in while loop? So we input same data, we perform same algorithm, which is written in a wary same way (respecting language diferencis ofcourse), outputing same data (lat us say saving it to file for tham to be relativly equal) Who will be faster on some 1000 times of performing O(NN) algorithm, in which case (if it is possible) one will owerrun another?

  • Multiple Inheritance Debates II: according to Stroustrup

    - by asksuperuser
I know very well about the traditional arguments about why Interface Inheritance is prefered to multiple inheritance, there has been already a post here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/191691/should-c-include-multiple-inheritance But according to Stroustrup the real reason why Microsoft and Sun decided to get rid off multiple inheritance is that they have vested interest to do so: instead of putting features in the languages, they put in frameworks so that people then become tied to their platform instead of people having the same capability at a language standard level. What do you think ? Why Sun and Microsoft consider developers too immature to just make the choice themselves ?

  • Jquery .html replacer just empties my selector, what's wrong!?

    - by jphenow
$("#autoNames").html(function (index, html) { var begin = "<script language='javascript' type='text/javascript'> var names = ["; var end = String('];' + '<' + '/' + 'script' + '>'); var result = begin.concat(jsonService, end); $("#autoNames").html(result); return false; }); I can't figure out for the life of me why this doesn't work. I've gotten the html function to work before, but for some reason this just leaves my autoNames tag empty... and i've called an alert() on the result variable and things exist in that string... any clues? Thanks

  • How can I test if an input field contains foreign characters?

    - by zeckdude
I have an input field in a form. Upon pushing submit, I want to validate to make sure the user entered non-latin characters only, so any foreign language characters, like Chinese among many others. Or at the very least test to make sure it does not contain any latin characters. Could I use a regular expression for this? What would be the best approach for this? I am validating in both javaScript and in PHP. What solutions can I use to check for foreign characters in the input field in both programming languages?

  • How to write an unit test for WCF behaviors?

    - by katie77
    I am new to unit testing. How do I write a unit test for a method when I am extending a WCF behavior. Since I am not sure of when the class is being instantiated, or I can not change the method signature. In the behavior implementation, I am getting the header and looking up a value in the config. public class IncomingValidator : IDispatchMessageInspector { public object AfterReceiveRequest(ref Message request, IClientChannel channel, InstanceContext instanceContext) { // Grab the header and see if one of the particular values(read from config) is there. } public void BeforeSendReply(ref Message reply, object correlationState) { } }

  • What is the best signature for overloaded arithmetic operators in C++?

    - by JohnMcG
I had assumed that the canonical form for operator+, assuming the existence of an overloaded operator+= member function, was like this: const T operator+(const T& lhs, const T& rhs) { return T(lhs) +=rhs; } But it was pointed out to me that this would also work: const T operator+ (T lhs, const T& rhs) { return lhs+=rhs; } In essence, this form transfers creation of the temporary from the body of the implementation to the function call. It seems a little awkward to have different types for the two parameters, but is there anything wrong with the second form? Is there a reason to prefer one over the other?

  • Is it possible in Scala to force the caller to specify a type parameter for a polymorphic method ?

    - by Alex Kravets
//API class Node class Person extends Node object Finder { def find[T <: Node](name: String): T = doFind(name).asInstanceOf[T] } //Call site (correct) val person = find[Person]("joe") //Call site (dies with a ClassCast inside b/c inferred type is Nothing) val person = find("joe") In the code above the client site "forgot" to specify the type parameter, as the API writer I want that to mean "just return Node". Is there any way to define a generic method (not a class) to achieve this (or equivalent). Note: using a manifest inside the implementation to do the cast if (manifest != scala.reflect.Manifest.Nothing) won't compile ... I have a nagging feeling that some Scala Wizard knows how to use Predef.<:< for this :-) Ideas ?

  • Avoiding sub-type selection in view code

    - by John Donoghue
Hi, I have some code where the model contains some classes like (vb.net pseudocode, but could be any OO language): Enum AttributeType Boolean Date String End Enum MustInherit Class Attibute Must Override Function Type As AttributeType End Class Class BooleanAttribute: Attribute Function Type As AttributeType Return AttributeType.Boolean End Function End Class And the view contains some code like: Select Case AttributeType Case Boolean //Display checkbox control Case Date //Display date picker control Case String //Display textbox control End Select I don't really like the code in the view, for the hopefully obvious reasons (what happens when I get a new attribute type etc). My question is, how should I replace it? I could easily add a method to the concrete classes, but that pollutes the model with UI stuff so that's a horrible idea. I could move the select into a factory, but that seems to be just hiding the problem. Can anybody advise a better approach?

  • switching to C++11

    - by camelord
Hi there, first of all, sorry for my englisch. I am from germany. We are going to start a long lasting project and use C++ as programming language. I read of C++0x is gonna come out 2011 so its called C++11. When C++11 comes out, we will still be developing the software of the project. Is it possible to use allready any features of the new C++ standard to able to - code faster than with the old C++ and - switch easily when the new standard arrives? best regards camelord

  • Scheme - What is wrong with my attempt to extend this declaration?

    - by CppLearner
This is a homework question. Question My attempt (the whole file): http://pastebin.com/vt3Q3dqs If you search let var = exp1 in body, that's the function I need to extend according to the question. When I test the sample code above, I get an error apply-env: No binding for y (eval "let x = 30 in let x = -(x,1) y = -(x,2) in -(x,y)") ; The following is execution log The-next-two-lines-shows-var-and-exp1 (x) (#(struct:const-exp 30)) diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 1) diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 2) The-next-two-lines-shows-var-and-exp1 (x y) (#(struct:diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 1)) #(struct:diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:const-exp 2))) diff-exp #(struct:var-exp x) #(struct:var-exp y) As you can see, when the interperter reads the last line -(x,y) it complains because there is no binding. What did I do wrong? I know this is really long language, but if anyone can kindly lead me to the right direction would be really really nice. Thank you!

  • Can I work with Visual Studio Project and Solution files in a team using Subversion?

    - by flyx
We're a team of students doing a software project. As some of us don't use Windows, but the product needs to run on Windows and .NET, we want to develop on MonoDevelop and Visual Studio which both use Visual Studio files; language of choice is C#. My question is: Can we check in the solution and project files into our repository without the possibility of severe conflicting problems? Example: Two guys add a new file to the same project, save and commit their changes. Will the project file get a conflict?

  • Parsing through Arabic / RTL text from left to right

    - by Dan W
Let's say I have a string in an RTL language such as Arabic with some English chucked in: string s = "Test:?????;?????;?????;a;b" Notice there are semicolons in the string. When I use the Split command like string[] spl = s.Split(';');, then some of the strings are saved in reverse order. This is what happens: ??Test:????? ????? ????? a b The above is out of order compared to the original. Instead, I expect to get this: ?Test: ????? ????? ????? a b I'm prepared to write my own split function. However, the chars in the string also parse in reverse order, so I'm back to square one. I just want to go through each character as it's shown on the screen.

  • Why are regular expressions such a complicated, cryptic mess?

    - by steffenj
Often when I see regular expressions, I only see a total mess of characters. Why does it have to be this way? I guess what I really want to know is: are there alternatives to regular expressions that basically do the same thing but are implemented in a human readable language? [UPDATE] Thanks for all the great responses and inspiration! I wanted to highlight this particular link which shows how a (working) alternative would look like, which may also be a good starting point for learning or "simple" regex expressions. But you also quickly get a feel for the verbosity tradeoff.
