  Hi All, I am developing an embedded system and very new to this TCP\IP. My problem is that once I installed my board in a local network and this board will acquire its IP address dynamically, it has to communicate with a client application running on one of the PC(other than DHCP server) in the network. To communicate with this new board the client application is required to know the IP address of the board. What is the way to know the IP address of the board? Will UDP broadcast work for this purpose? If yes please, explain in detail as I am unable to understand it. Please provide me some sample code in C if possible. Regards, Satinder

  Hi All, I am experimenting with the Google App Engine and have a question. For the sake of simplicity, let's say my app is modeling a computer network (a fairly large corporate network with 10,000 nodes). I am trying to model my Node class as follows: class Node(db.Model): name = db.StringProperty() neighbors = db.SelfReferenceProperty() Let's suppose, for a minute, that I cannot use a ListProperty(). Based on my experiments to date, I can assign only a single entity to 'neighbors' - and I cannot use the "virtual" collection (node_set) to access the list of Node neighbors. So... my questions are: Does SelfReferenceProperty limit you to a single entity that you can reference? If I instead use a ListProperty, I believe I am limited to 5,000 keys, which I need to exceed.   Hi all, I am trying to write a praat script to do preprocessing on hundreds of speach samples. I need to extract speech features from each sample and feed these as imputs into a feed-forward neural network. I have already constructed the network using math-lab. However, learing to script in praat is proving to be quite a challenge given my time constraints. Some of my samples are 0.01 to 0.03 seconds in length, I was looking at standardising the duration for all samples using Pitch Synchronous OverLap-Add(PSOLA). However this will be very tedious if I were to do this for every sample. Is there any script that can read in all of my files and perform the operations in a batch mode? Any guidance will be surelly appreaciated. Regards.

  Hello I want write my own desktop sharing application in Java. The application should have some very default features: Capture screen; Allow a remote connected user to click / edit fields. I was thinking to use Java Robot class for mouse movements / key pressing. The problem is i don't know what screen capture strategy to use. Should I make sequentially screen captures (on the hosting computer) every second, and send those captures with UDP via network, so that the clients can intercept the data-grams ? Isn't this a little overkill for the network ? What other strategies are available ? (Except trying an already existing app). PS: If necessary I can even write native code using JNI (still that's the last thing I planning to do).

• Copying Some from a PostgreSQL Server to Another

  I am in need of an application that can periodically transmit select rows from a PostgreSQL database across a network to a second PostgreSQL server. Typically these will be the most recent row added, pulled and transmitted every 10-30 seconds. The primary servers run in a MS Windows environment with a high-latency, and occasionally intermittent, network connection. Therefore, any application would have to be tolerant of this and ideally automatically reconnect / resend data that could not be transmitted. Due to the environment and the requirements, a full-blown replication package would be unnecessary. I appreciate any help anyone has with this problem.

  Hello @all following issue, I configure a DNS Zone "location.domain.tld" for my internal Network and it works well, but now I want to manage the domain.tld for my internal Network, but the domain.tld is managed by an external DNS Provider. In location.domain.tld there are all Clients and Servers for internal use only (with local IPs) all these clients resolve the global Mailserver (for example) over his external Address but now i want to catch single Domainnames and resolve it on my own way. • Can only access asp.net app on localhost

  I'm trying to get an asp.net application up on IIS on a Windows Server 2008 machine. I can hit the app from localhost, no problem. But I can't access the app using the server's domain name either locally or from another machine on the network. But here's the odd part. I can access a normal file on IIS using the domain name, both from a browser running on the server and from a browser running on another machine on the network. Here's a synopsis ("http" converted to "htp" below because I don't have enough points to have all these links in my message): From IE on the server itself: works htp://localhost/foo.htm works htp://localhost/App works htp://test.foo.com/foo.htm dead htp://test.foo.com/App From IE on another machine: works htp://test.foo.com/foo.htm dead htp://test.foo.com/App And when I say "dead" I mean the request times out. Any ideas?

  I have an installation where FM Pro 9 clients open a solution from an FM Server 9. This solution then needs to access files on a network share from the clients. So far, the network share was mounted with AFP, but an infrastructure change required it to be switched to static NFS mounts. Their boot Volumes may have different names, but they all mount an NFS share at the same mount point in the "real" mount tree (starting from the UNIX root dir, /). According to http://www.filemaker.com/help/html/create_db.8.32.html#1030283 it looks like there is no way to just use a full path without having a volume name as if this was Mac OS classic - is there some way to work around this? Upgrading to a newer FileMaker is not a sought solution.

  Hello, I'm trying to make a small program that could intercept the open process of a file. The purpose is when an user double-click on a file in a given folder, windows would inform to the software, then it process that petition and return windows the data of the file. Maybe there would be another solution like monitoring Open messages and force Windows to wait while the program prepare the contents of the file. One application of this concept, could be to manage desencryption of a file in a transparent way to the user. In this context, the encrypted file would be on the disk and when the user open it ( with double-click on it or with some application such as notepad ), the background process would intercept that open event, desencrypt the file and give the contents of that file to the asking application. It's a little bit strange concept, it could be like "Man In The Middle" network concept, but with files instead of network packets. Thanks for reading.

• Need better Java application deployment strategy

  I have various Java Swing applications that are used by multiple users. My deployment strategy is to locate the .jar file on a network share, and users create shortcuts to that file. When the user launches an application, the file is copied to their machine and executed locally. This method allows for a single copy of the code and easy updating. The problem is that I can't update the file on the network share if any user is using the application at that time. I can't use Web Start because I don't have access to a cert for signing the jar. My current workaround is a separate application that copies the desired app to the user's local machine, launches the application, and then the launcher exits. There is a several second delay from when the launcher app exits and the user's app becomes visible. Can anyone suggest a better deployment method where I can easily update a central copy of the application, one where Windows XP won't maintain a lock on the file?

  Hello. I'm trying to access a network path in my ruby script on a windows platform in a format like this. \\servername\some windows share\folder 1\folder2\ Now If I try to use this as a path, it won't work. Single backslashes are not properly escaped for this script. path = "\\servername\some windows share\folder 1\folder2\" d = Dir.new(path) I tried everything I could think of to properly escape slashes in the path. However I can't escape that single backslash - because of it's special meaning. I tried single quotes, double quotes, escaping backslash itself, using alternate quotes such as %Q{} or %q{}, using ascii to char conversion. Nothing works in a sense that I'm not doing it right. :-) Right now the temp solution is to Map a network drive N:\ pointing to that path and access it that way, but that not a solution. Does anyone have any idea how to properly escape single backslashes? Thank you

Currently, I've found out the following: Sending/Interpreting AT commands Setting the APN/PIN/Network Registration/... These things were well-documented on many sites. But now I want to connect, and here the problems start: If I try to do a ATDT *99#, which should dial the *99# number, I get the message CONNECT. But what do I need to do now? How do I tell windows to use the dial in network? Is the '*99#' even the number I should dial? (I think so, because it's the default dialing number in the Mobile Partner application, and on OS X on my 3G modem) I'm writing this program in C#. Thank you! Yvan

  Apache webserver setup added: AddType application/x-mpegURL .m3u8 AddType video/MP2T .ts to "httpd.conf" file. Movie file preparation I have 3 movie files (9mb - 25mb each). Used QuickTime to convert movies into iPhone format. Used mediafilesegmenter to convert .m4v into 10-second segments of .ts files, with an accompanying .m3u8 file. Placed these in a folder on webserver. iPhone App implementation Created UIWebView whose URL points to http://71.191.59.68/~yujean/stream.html Simulator accesses the site and streams the movie-files just fine. Question Will I still get rejected by apple for bandwidth issues over the 3G and/or Edge network? Do I need to somehow check which network the end-user is on first?   On our network (a group of related websites - not a LAN) we have a common authentication system which works like this: On a network site ("consumer") the user clicks on a login link This redirects the user to a login page on our auth system ("RAS"). Upon successful login the user is directed back to the consumer site. Extra data is passed in the query string. This extra data does not include any information about the user yet. The consumer site's backend contacts RAS to get the information about the logged in user. So as you can see, the consumer site knows nothing about the authentication method. It doesn't know if it's by username/password, fingerprint, smartcard, or winning a game of poker. This is the main problem I'm encountering when trying to find out how I could write custom authentication plugins for these packages, acting as consumer sites: Wordpress Joomla MediaWiki For example Joomla offers a pretty simple auth plugin system, but it depends on a username/password entered on the Joomla site. Any hints on where to start?

  Host Configuration: HP EliteBook 8530w 4G Ram Win7 Ultimate 64Bit RC SQL Server 2005 64bit Developer Edition Virtual: Windows Virtual PC 1G Ram allocated Integration Services installed Windows XP 64bit Up to date service packs and .Net framework through 3.5 SP1 Sharing the Gigabit network adapter of the Host I have a simple .Net console application which loads a dataset of approximately 37K rows. Running the application on the host executes in approximately 4 seconds. Running inside the virtual takes 729 seconds. The size of the application grows to about 65Mb when the dataset is finished loading, no calculated columns or event handlers are attached. [edit] I changed the virtual to use a loopback adapter to communicate with the host and performance is now on par with running on hardware. Any ideas as to why it would going over the network adapter be almost 200x longer? TraceRt shows that the connection is only one hop. Thanks, Shane Holder

  I am using JBOSS 7 AS. I am deploying the projects via the linux box by the cmd like so bin/standalone.sh -b [ipaddress] This works fine only when i am on the network, however it doesn't work when i'm outside the network or over the internet. How do i launch it so people can access it over the internet? I tried this but it doesnt work. bin/standalone.sh -b 0.0.0.0 It says: Google Chrome could not load the webpage because took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.

• ASP.NET Granting access to local resources

  Hi all I have an ASP.NET web application that runs on a windows server 2003 server. there is a form that reads and writes data to an xml file inside the application's directory. I always grant the NETWORK SERVICE user full control on my application folder so that it can read and write to the xml file. I put the application on another windows server 2003 server and did the same steps above but i was getting an Access denied exception on the form that reads and writes to the xml. I did some search and found that if you grant the user ASPNET full control to the directory it would work, I did that and it worked fine. my question is: what is the difference between granting full control permissions to NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET users ? and what can be the difference between the two servers that caused this issue ? thanks

  i have html form with textarea in which i paste some XML, for example: <network ip_addr="10.0.0.0/8" save_ip="true"> <subnet interf_used="200" name="lan1" /> <subnet interf_used="254" name="lan2" /> </network> When user submit form, that data is send to Java server, so in headers i get something like that: GET /?we=%3Cnetwork+ip_addr%3D%2210.0.0.0%2F8%22+save_ip%3D%22true%22%3E%0D%0A%3Csubnet+interf_used%3D%22200%22+name%3D%22lan1%22+%2F%3E%0D%0A%3Csubnet+interf_used%3D%22254%22+name%3D%22lan2%22+%2F%3E%0D%0A%3C%2Fnetwork%3E HTTP/1.1 how can i use that in my Java applications? I need to make some calculations on that data and re-send new generated XML.

  Hello Is there a good overview of tcp data path in Linux (2.6, not 2.4 if the path actually differ)? Where is a packet on different stages of tcp/ip stack handling? How packet is packed to tcp segment, then ip packet. How it is transmitted to network card? (with series of I/O regs write and DMA?) Is it transmitted to network card in the "write" syscall handler (with some deep callstack) or is it transmitted at some other moment?

• Discovering maximum packet size

  I'm working on a network-related project and I am using DTLS (TLS/UDP) to secure communications. Reading the specifications for DTLS, I've noted that DTLS requires the DF flag (Don't Fragment) to be set. On my local network if I try to send a message bigger than 1500 bytes, nothing is sent. That makes perfect sense. On Windows the sendto() reports a success but nothing is sent. I obviously cannot unset the DF flag manually since it is mandatory for DTLS and i'm not sure whether the 1500 bytes limit (MTU ?) could change in some situations. I guess it can. So, my question is : "Is there a way to discover this limit ?" If not, what would be the lowest possible value ? My software runs under UNIX (Linux/MAC OSX) and Windows OSes so different solutions for each OS are welcome ;) Many thanks.
