• Generics and reflection in Java

  This is probably a very basic question, but I'm really new to generics in Java and I'm having a hard time altering my thought process from the way things are done in C#, so bear with me. I'm trying to build a generic repository in Java. I've created an IRepository interface that looks like this: public interface IRepository<T extends IEntity> And a Repository class that looks like this: public class Repository<T extends IEntity> implements IRepository<T> Now, from within the constructor of my Repository class, I'd like to be able to "divine" the exact type of T. For example, if I instantiated a repository like this: IRepository<MyClass> repo = new Repository<MyClass>(); I'd like to know that T is actually MyClass. This is trivial in C#, but obviously generics are a totally different beast in Java and I can't seem to find anything that would help me do this.

• SQL returns non-array value in PHP

So within "flight", a record definitely exists with this Id. But, this still gives me a non-array result, so that when I try to use foreach on it, it errors out. Suggestions?

• Reuse C++ Header files

  Guys, I have a Visual C++ solution with 2 projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB and both share a common header file RunAlgo.h with the class declaration. Each project in the solution has its own unique implementation for the header file. I am trying to compile a DLL out of the common header file RunAlgo.h and add reference to this DLL in the projects AlgorithmA & AlgorithmB. I have then included separate RunAlgo.cpp definition file in both my projects. The problem is that I am getting linker errors while compiling the new DLL project which has only the header file. So, the question is Can a header file with only class declaration be compiled into a DLL (Similar to class library containing an Interface in C#)? For the above scenario, is there a better approach to reuse the common Header file among projects? Should the above method work (re-check my code?)

  I came to a situation where I need to edit the following in a way that, on some event (lets assume the 'click' event in this case) I need to remove (or unwrap?) the .container and the .header and have the .itemlist still visible/available on the page. And then, I need to restore .container and .header back again on some other event, while still maintain the event listeners on the a tags, and if possible, without removing the said items from the DOM. • Check if a variable is empty

  I have some user-submitted variables that I want to display in a different part of my site like this: <div class="pre_box">Term: </div> <div class="entry"><?php $key='term'; echo get_post_meta($post->ID, $key, true); ?></div> Occasionally, these variables might be empty in which case I don't want to display the label for the empty variable. In the example above I would want to hide the <div class="pre_box">Term: </div> part. Is there some simple way to check if a php variable like the one above is empty and prevent the label from being displayed?

(if so how) .bold { font-weight: bold;} .color1 {color: white;} .boldColor {.bold; .color1;} where .boldColor is effectively .boldColor {font-weight:bold; color:white;} I want this so that I can have styles thoughout the page and be able to easily change the colors in many places in 1 place. • Buffering db inserts in multithreaded program

  I have a system which breaks a large taks into small tasks using about 30 threads as a time. As each individual thread finishes it persists its calculated results to the database. What I want to achieve is to have each thread pass its results to a new persisance class that will perform a type of double buffering and data persistance while running in its own thread. For example, after 100 threads have moved their data to the buffer the persistance class then the persistance class swaps the buffers and persists all 100 entries to the database. This would allow utilization of prepared statements and thus cut way down on the I/O between the program and the database. Is there a pattern or good example of this type of multithreading double buffering?

• C# Getting a node with attributes from SelectSingleNode

  Hi folks, I am quite the n00b but lately I have been playing with parsing some XML data. I actually found a nice feature on this site where I can get to a specific node with a specific attribute by doing: docFoo.SelectSingleNode("foo/bar/baz[@name='qux']); However, the data looks like this: <saving-throws> <saving-throw> <name>Fortitude</name> <abbr>Fort</abbr> <ability>Con</ability> <modifiers> <modifier name="base" value="2"/> <modifier name="ability" value="5"/> <modifier name="magic" value="0"/> <modifier name="feat" value="0"/> <modifier name="race" value="0"/> <modifier name="familar" value="0"/> <modifier name="feature" value="0"/> <modifier name="user" value="0"/> <modifier name="misc" value="0"/> </modifiers> </saving-throw> <saving-throw> <name>Reflex</name> <abbr>Ref</abbr> <ability>Dex</ability> <modifiers> <modifier name="base" value="6"/> <modifier name="ability" value="1"/> <modifier name="magic" value="0"/> <modifier name="feat" value="0"/> <modifier name="race" value="0"/> <modifier name="familar" value="0"/> <modifier name="feature" value="0"/> <modifier name="user" value="0"/> <modifier name="misc" value="0"/> </modifiers> </saving-throw> And I want to be able to get the node with name=base but for each saving-throw node where childnode "abbr" = xx.   Hi. I have this class that has a static member. it is also a base class for several other classes in my program. If I change the ++nextID phrase in the constructor to just nextID, then I only get one error, and if I change it to 1, then it links correctly. I imagine it's something simple, but what's going on?

  I have read a number of Q&As on SO in search of some help on this but have so far not solved my issue. I am trying to teach myself ruby/rails, and as a test project, I want to create a list of tvshows and a list of characters where each tvshow has_many characters and each character belongs_to a specific show. I am sure I am doing something basic incorrectly. • 0.20.2 API hadoop version with java 5

  I have started a maven project trying to implement the MapReduce algorithm in java 1.5.0_14. I have chosen the 0.20.2 API hadoop version. In the pom.xml i'm using thus the following dependency: < dependency < groupId>org.apache.hadoop< /groupId> < artifactId>hadoop-core< /artifactId> < version>0.20.2< /version> < /dependency But when I'm using an import to the org.apache.hadoop classes, I get the following error: bad class file: ${HOME_DIR}\repository\org\apache\hadoop\hadoop-core\0.20.2\hadoop-core-0.20.2.jar(org/apache/hadoop/fs/Path.class) class file has wrong version 50.0, should be 49.0. Does someone know how can I solve this issue. Thanks.

• Possible for C++ template to check for a function's existence?

  Is it possible to write a C++ template that changes behavior depending on if a certain member function is defined on a class? Here's a simple example of what I would want to write: template<class T> std::string optionalToString(T* obj) { if (FUNCTION_EXISTS(T->toString)) return obj->toString(); else return "toString not defined"; } So if class T has "toString" defined then it uses it, otherwise it doesn't. The magical part that I don't know how to do is the "FUNCTION_EXISTS" part.

  Hi, I want to code sth. that basically works like TiVo. Switch it on, you only see the menu or an output, so no underlying OS or anything else is directly visible to the user. So I want to use Linux as base. Can you suggest a good base distribution? Can I code a frontend without having a window-manager up and running? If yes, is that possible with java-gnome or what language/gui-framework combination would you suggest? If no, what's the minimal window manager that can handle fancy menus, etc? What does it take to create video-overlays over a HD-stream? Are there some libraries I should take a look at? Thanks

• Why is JSON outputting out of order?

  I'm am trying to get a list of weather information for 8 locations. I'm using a weather API that accepts longitude and latitude and spits back json output with the weather info for that location. I feed the coords in order 0-7 but when json processes the data it comes back in a seemingly random order. I assume it's because some process faster than others and json is outputing what it gets back as it gets it. • C++, create an instance from a static method

  Hello, let's say I want my users to use only one class, say SpecialData. Now, this data class would have many methods, and depending on the type of data, the methods do different things, internally, but return externally similar results. Therefore my wanting to have one "public" class and other "private", child classes that would change the behavior of methods, etc... It would be amazingly more simple for some types of data that need to be built to do something like this: SpecialData& sm = SpecialData::new_supermatrix(); and new_supermatrix() would return a SuperMatrix instance, which inherits from most behaviors of SpecialData. my header: static SpecialData& new_supermatrix(); my cpp: SpecialData& SpecialData::new_supermatrix()(){ return SuperMatrix(MATRIX_DEFAULT_MAGNITUDE,1000,1239,FLOAT32,etc...); } The problem is, I get this error, which is probably logical due to the circumstances: invalid initialization of non-const reference of type ‘SpecialData&’ from a temporary of type ‘SpecialData’ So, any ideas?

  I have problems with saving derived type (TPT) with Entity Framework to database. Let's say I have base entity Animal and derived type Dog. I want to save Dog entity. I thought that I could do it like contex.AddToDogs(), but contex contain only base entity - Animal. So I can only save Animal object - contex.AddToAnimals(). I have also tried with contex.AddObject("Animals", dogInstance), but I get the following error: The member with identity 'NavigationProperty' does not exist in the metadata collection. But I have add EntityReference to the "NavigationProperty". So how to save derived type in EF?

• Why has Foundation 4 made its grid classes less natural and readable?

  The Background I love responsive CSS grids. I hate Bootstrap's complex class names. I fell in love with Foundations human readable class names. The Problem With Foundation 4, they have changed four columns to large-4 small-4 columns and in my opinion this makes the HTML markup less clear. This style of CSS class names is exactly why I switched from Bootstrap to Foundation. The Question What advantage is gained by Foundation 4's Grid in making this change? It seems that you can have a different grid layout on smaller screens via media queries, but I can't think of a design that would require this. Note: I've been focused on native mobile development and therefore I may be missing out on recent best practices.

• apache alias and .htacess willing to understand configuration?

  On our local dev enviornment we had just one server and to add far future expires and cache control header to static images we kept a .htaccess file in the root of the application things worked fine. But on our prod we have multiple apache servers having aliases to a code base on a different server. Here in this case i am not sure where to keep .htacess file on. Should i be keeping it on code base or on the individual apache servers. How can i write the same stuff that i have written in .htaccess file to httpd.conf file.

The validation is not executed. Can anybody just press me against the place where my error lies?
