  • Lambdas within Extension methods: Possible memory leak?

    - by Oliver
    I just gave an answer to a quite simple question by using an extension method. But after writing it down i remembered that you can't unsubscribe a lambda from an event handler. So far no big problem. But how does all this behave within an extension method?? Below is my code snipped again. So can anyone enlighten me, if this will lead to myriads of timers hanging around in memory if you call this extension method multiple times? I would say no, cause the scope of the timer is limited within this function. So after leaving it no one else has a reference to this object. I'm just a little unsure, cause we're here within a static function in a static class. public static class LabelExtensions { public static Label BlinkText(this Label label, int duration) { Timer timer = new Timer(); timer.Interval = duration; timer.Tick += (sender, e) => { timer.Stop(); label.Font = new Font(label.Font, label.Font.Style ^ FontStyle.Bold); }; label.Font = new Font(label.Font, label.Font.Style | FontStyle.Bold); timer.Start(); return label; } }

  • can't get jquery livequery to with an update panel

    - by Jeremy
    I have some basic html inside an asp.net update panel. Using livequery, I set up autocomplete, blur and keydown events so that they all continue to be wired up after the update panel does a partial page load. When the page initially loads, all the events work fine but after the update panel does a partial page reload, none of the events wired up with livequery continue to work. Are there known issues with livequery and update panels? Html: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="upData" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:DataList ID="dlData" runat="server" DataSource='<%# this.Data %>' DataKeyField="ID"> <ItemTemplate> <table> <tr> <th class="required">Location</th> <td><asp:TextBox ID="txtFromLocation" MaxLength="10" CssClass="searchlocation fromlocation required" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("FromLocation")%>'/><asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rvalFromLocation" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtFromLocation" ValidationGroup="leg">*</asp:RequiredFieldValidator></td> </tr> </table> </ItemTemplate> </asp:DataList> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> And then I have my javascript. Normally it has a bunch of other code, but I can reduce it down to this and still have the problem: $(document).ready(function() { $(".searchlocation").livequery(function() { $(this).keydown(function(event) {alert('test');}); }); });

  • WSE 3.0 crashes when ClearHeaders is called

    - by Daniel Enetoft
    Hi! I'm developing a client-server application in c# using WSE web-service. One of the things that the user can do is send jpg images to the server for backup via the web-service. Recently strange errors have occurred. This does not happen for all users, just a few. On the client side the exception is a System.Net.WebException Exception message: The operation has timed out and on the server the following warning is found in the event viewer: Exception information: Exception type: HttpException Exception message: Server cannot clear headers after HTTP headers have been sent. Request information Request URL: MyUrl/Service.asmx Request path: /MyWebService/Service.asmx User host address: ------- User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Thread information: Thread ID: 7 Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE Is impersonating: False Stack trace: at System.Web.HttpResponse.ClearHeaders() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapServerProtocol.WriteException(Exception e, Stream outputStream) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.ServerProtocolFactory.Create(Type type, HttpContext context, HttpRequest request, HttpResponse response, Boolean& abortProcessing) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebServiceHandlerFactory.CoreGetHandler(Type type, HttpContext context, HttpRequest request, HttpResponse response) Does anyone have an idea where this error can come from? I have already tried to raise the "maxRequestLength" in web.config to 16Mb but this doesn't fix it. Regards /Daniel

  • IIS7 + WCF + Silverlight problems

    - by Eanna
    Hey, I've been building a silverlight application and a WCF service for a while now and recently tried to host them in IIS7. I installed IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and added these two application to my default website. I am having a number of problems so im hoping one of you can help out... 1) The silverlight and WCF service applications do not work with pass-through authentication. I need to "connect as" the administrator server account when setting up the application. I read online that you should only need to use the "connect as" field when you are connecting to another computer. If i dont supply the admin credentials i get this error. Do i have to set up permissions somewhere else? HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. In some cases, the event logs may contain more information about what caused this error. 2) Visual studio generated 2 webpages to run my silverlight application (.html and .aspx). When I am running the silverlight application (connected as admin) I can navigate to the .html page, no problem. When I try to open the .aspx file i get the following error Server Error in '/Platform' Application. Access is denied. Description: An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. You might not have permission to view the requested resources. • high performance hibernate insert

    - by luke
    I am working on a latency sensitive part of an application, basically i will receive a network event transform the data and then insert all the data into the DB. After profiling i see that basically all my time is spent trying to save the data. here is the code private void insertAllData(Collection<Data> dataItems) { long start_time = System.currentTimeMillis(); long save_time = 0; long commit_time = 0; Transaction tx = null; try { Session s = HibernateSessionFactory.getSession(); s.setCacheMode(CacheMode.IGNORE); s.setFlushMode(FlushMode.NEVER); tx = s.beginTransaction(); for(Data data : dataItems) { s.saveOrUpdate(data); } save_time = System.currentTimeMillis(); tx.commit(); s.flush(); s.clear(); } catch(HibernateException ex) { if(tx != null) tx.rollback(); } commit_time = System.currentTimeMillis(); System.out.println("Save: " + (save_time - start_time)); System.out.println("Commit: " + (commit_time - save_time)); System.out.println(); } The size of the collection is always less than 20. here is the timing data that i see: Save: 27 Commit: 9 Save: 27 Commit: 9 Save: 26 Commit: 9 Save: 36 Commit: 9 Save: 44 Commit: 0 This is confusing to me. I figure that the save should be quick and all the time should be spent on commit. but clearly I'm wrong. I have also tried removing the transaction (its not really necessary) but i saw worse times... I have set hibernate.jdbc.batch_size=20... i need this operation to be as fast as possible, ideally there would only be one roundtrip to the database. How can i do this?

  • AS3 Working With Arbitrarily Large Files

    - by Kekoa
    I am trying to read a very large file in AS3 and am having problems with the runtime just crashing on me. I'm currently using a FileStream to open the file asynchronously. This does not work(crashes without an Exception) for files bigger than about 300MB. _fileStream = new FileStream(); _fileStream.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loadError); _fileStream.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete); _fileStream.openAsync(myFile, FileMode.READ); In looking at the documentation, it sounds like the FileStream class still tries to read in the entire file to memory(which is bad for large files). Is there a more suitable class to use for reading large files? I really would like something like a buffered FileStream class that only loads the bytes from the files that are going to be read next. I'm expecting that I may need to write a class that does this for me, but then I would need to read only a piece of a file at a time. I'm assuming that I can do this by setting the position and readAhead properties of the FileStream to read a chunk out of a file at a time. I would love to save some time if there is a class like this that already exists. Is there a good way to process large files in AS3, without loading entire contents into memory?

  • How Can I Prevent Memory Leaks in IE Mobile?

    - by Jake Howlett
    Hi All, I've written an application for use offline (with Google Gears) on devices using IE Mobile. The devices are experiencing memory leaks at such a rate that the device becomes unusable over time. The problem page fetches entries from the local Gears database and renders a table of each entry with a link in the last column of each row to open the entry ( the link is just onclick="open('myID')" ). When they've done with the entry they return to the table, which is RE-rendered. It's the repeated building of this table that appears to be the problem. Mainly the onclick events. The table is generated in essence like this: var tmp=""; for (var i=0; i<100; i++){ tmp+="<tr><td>row "+i+"</td><td><a href=\"#\" id=\"LINK-"+i+"\""+ " onclick=\"afunction();return false;\">link</a></td></tr>"; } document.getElementById('view').innerHTML = "<table>"+tmp+"</table>"; I've read up on common causes of memory leaks and tried setting the onclick event for each link to "null" before re-rendering the table but it still seems to leak. Anybody got any ideas? In case it matters, the function being called from each link looks like this: function afunction(){ document.getElementById('view').style.display="none"; } Would that constitute a circular reference in any way? • How to check absolute control visibility and how to be notified for changes of absolute visibility

    - by portakalla
    I have several controls inside my form and I perform several changes (Text, Font, BackColor etc.) on these controls. My changes are necessary only if the controls are visible. So, I want to stop performing my changes on controls that are not visible. I want to keep changing my controls when they become visible again. I can use Control.Visible and Control.VisibleChanged, however they are not satisfactory for my purpose. The problem is, VisibleChanged is not fired when control becomes invisible due to its parent (i.e. because its parent became invisible). Interestingly, it is fired when control becomes visible again. Is there a way to be notified for visibility changes without recursively listening parent visibility changes? I also want to be notified when another form is placed over my form and some of my controls become non-visible. I call this absolute visibility. (Is there another term for it?) Is there an event that I can use for this purpose? Thanks.

  • InvalidAuthenticityToken for JQuery despite setting authenticity token

    - by user117046
    I'm getting an InvalidAuthenticityToken despite adding in corresponding authenticity tokens in the jquery response. Is there an error in the code, or is there another, root problem? I appreciate any comments. Thanks! Using: Rails 2.3.3, Ruby 1.8.6, Webrick, JQuery 1.3.2 layout/networks.html.haml = token_tag = javascript_tag "window.AUTH_TOKEN = '#{form_authenticity_token}';" javascripts/application.js $(document).ready(function() { // All non-GET requests will add the authenticity token // if not already present in the data packet $(document).ajaxSend(function(event, request, settings) { if (typeof(window.AUTH_TOKEN) == "undefined") return; // <acronym title="Internet Explorer 6">IE6</acronym> fix for http://dev.jquery.com/ticket/3155 if (settings.type == 'GET' || settings.type == 'get') return; settings.data = settings.data || ""; settings.data += (settings.data ? "&" : "") + "authenticity_token=" + encodeURIComponent(window.AUTH_TOKEN); }); ajaxLinks(); }); The rendered html has: <input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="ZaXj3ACQl+8JKtaDAUoxtSsqzEagSPyHbS25ai9qWCw=" /> <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ window.AUTH_TOKEN = 'ZaXj3ACQl+8JKtaDAUoxtSsqzEagSPyHbS25ai9qWCw='; //]]> </script> and breakpointing through, shows that window.AUTH_TOKEN has been set. Any help to resolve this would be great.

  • Windows-mobile app won't run after being closed by Task Manager

    - by pithyless
    I've inherited some windows-mobile code that I've been bringing up-to-date. I've come across a weird bug, and I was hoping that even though a bit vague, maybe it will spark someone's memory: Running the app (which is basically a glorified Forms app with P/Invoke gps code), I switch to the task manager, and close the app via End Task. Seems to exit fine (no errors and disappears from Task Manager). Unfortunately, the app refuses to start a second time until I reboot the phone or reinstall the CAB. What's worse: this bug is reproducible on a HTC Diamond, but works fine (ie. can run again after EndTask) on an HTC HD2. The only thing I can think of is some kind of timing race between a Dispose() and the Task Manager. Any ideas? I'm also thinking of a workaround - I do have a working "Exit Application" routine that correctly cleans up the app; can I catch the EndTask event in the c# code in order to complete a proper cleanup? Maybe I'm just missing the pain point... all ideas welcome :)

  • Android: ListActivity design - changing the content of the List Adapter

    - by Rob
    Hi, I would like to write a rather simple content application which displays a list of textual items (along with a small pic). I have a standard menu in which each menu item represents a different category of textual items (news, sports, leisure etc.). Pressing a menu item will display a list of textual items of this category. Now, having a separate ListActivity for each category seems like an overkill (or does it?..) Naturally, it makes much more sense to use one ListActivity and replace the data of its adapter when each category is loaded. My concern is when "back" is pressed. The adapter is loaded with items of the current category and now I need to display list of the previous category (and enable clicking on list items too...). Since I have only one activity - I thought of backup and load mechanism in onPause() and onResume() functions as well as making some distinction whether these function are invoked as a result of a "new" event (menu item selected) or by a "back" press. This seems very cumbersome for such a trivial usage... Am I missing something here? Thanks, Rob

  • Using Javascript to detect when a user has selected an item in an ASP.NET listbox

    - by Amr Bekhit
    Hello all, I am developing an ASP.NET web application that incorporates google maps. I have an ASP.NET listbox on my page which contains a list of items. When the user selects one of the items, I'd like to show this item on the map. The main complication lies in the fact that google maps uses javascript to control it and the listbox is a server control. I can think of two ways to do this. The first would involve the listbox calling a javascript function when the user selects a new item. I can then write this function to perform the necessary map operations. Unfortunately, the OnSelectedIndexChanged property of the listbox doesn't seem to support javascript functions. The second involves wrapping an UpdatePanel around the listbox and getting the listbox to perform a postback. In the SelectedIndexChanged event in VB/C#, I would the need to somehow make a call to a javascript function which would then update the map. Which solution can I use? Thanks --Amr

  • SecurityException when accessing (ejb2-) session bean via local interface in JBoss 5

    - by sme
    I have the following problem with an EJB 2 SessionBean when deploying in JBoss 5: The SessionBean (called LVSKeepAliveDispatcher) requires a specific user role (called "LVSUser"), specified by <method-permission > <description></description> <role-name>LVSUser</role-name> <method > <description></description> <ejb-name>LVSKeepAliveDispatcher</ejb-name> <method-name>*</method-name> </method> </method-permission> in ejb-jar.xml. I now want to access this SessionBean from a Service (i.e. a class implementing the org.jboss.varia.scheduler.Schedulable interface that is then registered as a service) running inside the same JBoss instance. This is my jboss-service.xml: <server> <mbean code="org.jboss.varia.scheduler.Scheduler" name="lvs:service=TranslationService"> <attribute name="StartAtStartup">true</attribute> <attribute name="SchedulableClass">de.repower.lvs.server.service.translation.TranslationService</attribute> <attribute name="SchedulableArguments"></attribute> <attribute name="SchedulableArgumentTypes"></attribute> <attribute name="InitialStartDate">NOW</attribute> <attribute name="SchedulePeriod">60000</attribute> <attribute name="InitialRepetitions">1</attribute> <attribute name="TimerName">jboss:service=Timer,name=TranslationServiceTimer</attribute> <depends><mbean code="javax.management.timer.Timer" name="jboss:service=Timer,name=TranslationServiceTimer"/></depends> <depends>jboss.j2ee:service=EJB,jndiName=de/repower/lvs/i18n/sessionbeans/LVSTranslation</depends> </mbean> As the service is deployed in the same vm as the session bean I want to call the session bean via the local interface, but I get a SecurityException when I try to create an instance. When instead I do a lookup of the RemoteInterface it works. This is the code inside the perform method of my service class: public void perform(Date now, long remainingRepetitions) { try { final UsernamePasswordHandler handler = new UsernamePasswordHandler(USERNAME, PASSWORD); final LoginContext lc = new LoginContext("client-login", handler); lc.login(); // Trying to instantiate an LVSKeepAliveDispatcher via remote interface // This part works LVSKeepAliveDispatcher localvHome = LVSKeepAliveDispatcherUtil.getHome().create(); LOGGER.info("Successfully instantiated an LVSKeepAliveDispatcher " + localvHome.toString()); // Trying to instantiate an LVSKeepAliveDispatcherLocal via local interface LVSKeepAliveDispatcherLocal localvLocalHome = LVSKeepAliveDispatcherUtil.getLocalHome().create(); // this code is unforunately never reached LOGGER.info("Successfully instantiated an LVSKeepAliveDispatcherLocal " + localvLocalHome.toString()); lc.logout(); } catch (final Exception ex) { LOGGER.error("Error: ", ex); } } Exception: 2009-02-17 10:38:02,266 INFO [lvsi18n] (Timer-2) Successfully instantiated an LVSKeepAliveDispatcher de/repower/lvs/server/service/alive/sessionbeans/LVSKeepAliveDispatcher:Stateless 2009-02-17 10:38:02,297 ERROR [org.jboss.ejb.plugins.SecurityInterceptor] (Timer-2) Error in Security Interceptor java.lang.SecurityException: Authentication exception, principal=internalSystemUser at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.SecurityInterceptor.checkSecurityContext(SecurityInterceptor.java:321) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.SecurityInterceptor.process(SecurityInterceptor.java:243) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.SecurityInterceptor.invokeHome(SecurityInterceptor.java:205) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.security.PreSecurityInterceptor.process(PreSecurityInterceptor.java:136) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.security.PreSecurityInterceptor.invokeHome(PreSecurityInterceptor.java:88) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.LogInterceptor.invokeHome(LogInterceptor.java:132) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.ProxyFactoryFinderInterceptor.invokeHome(ProxyFactoryFinderInterceptor.java:107) at org.jboss.ejb.SessionContainer.internalInvokeHome(SessionContainer.java:639) at org.jboss.ejb.Container.invoke(Container.java:1046) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.local.BaseLocalProxyFactory.invokeHome(BaseLocalProxyFactory.java:362) at org.jboss.ejb.plugins.local.LocalHomeProxy.invoke(LocalHomeProxy.java:133) at $Proxy193.create(Unknown Source) at de.repower.lvs.server.service.translation.TranslationService.perform(TranslationService.java:68) at org.jboss.varia.scheduler.Scheduler$PojoScheduler.invoke(Scheduler.java:1267) at org.jboss.varia.scheduler.Scheduler$BaseListener.handleNotification(Scheduler.java:1235) at sun.reflect.GeneratedMethodAccessor281.invoke(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at org.jboss.mx.notification.NotificationListenerProxy.invoke(NotificationListenerProxy.java:153) at $Proxy87.handleNotification(Unknown Source) at javax.management.NotificationBroadcasterSupport.handleNotification(NotificationBroadcasterSupport.java:257) at javax.management.NotificationBroadcasterSupport$SendNotifJob.run(NotificationBroadcasterSupport.java:322) at javax.management.NotificationBroadcasterSupport$1.execute(NotificationBroadcasterSupport.java:307) at javax.management.NotificationBroadcasterSupport.sendNotification(NotificationBroadcasterSupport.java:229) at javax.management.timer.Timer.sendNotification(Timer.java:1234) at javax.management.timer.Timer.notifyAlarmClock(Timer.java:1203) at javax.management.timer.TimerAlarmClock.run(Timer.java:1286) at java.util.TimerThread.mainLoop(Timer.java:512) at java.util.TimerThread.run(Timer.java:462) To further diagnose the error I debugged through the SecurityInterceptor and found that in the first case (successful creating an instance via the remote interface) the security context "lvs-security" (which I defined in login-config.xml) is being used whereas in the second case (failure when creating an instance via the local interface) the generic security context "CLIENT-LOGIN" is being used. This is the definition of the securit context "lvs-security" in login-config.xml: <application-policy name = "lvs-security"> <authentication> <login-module code = "org.jboss.security.ClientLoginModule" flag = "required"> </login-module> <login-module code = "de.repower.lvs.security.UsersRolesLoginModule" flag = "sufficient"> </login-module> <login-module code = "de.repower.lvs.security.login.LVSLoginModule" flag = "required"> <module-option name = "lvs-jboss-host">localhost</module-option> <module-option name = "lvs-jboss-jndi-port">1099</module-option> </login-module> </authentication> </application-policy> I'm now kind of stuck and hope someone can give me a hint about where to further look for the cause of the problem. This worked fine in JBoss 3.2.7. Edit: My current workaround for this problem: create a new container configuration in jboss.xml and remove the security interceptor stuff from this configuration use this newly created container configuration for all my session beans that I only use locally (i.e. via local interface).

  • Disable Return key outside textareas on a Asp.Net web page (containing ajax code)

    - by Achim
    Hi, I have an Asp.Net web page, having the common Asp.Net form. The outer "border" of the page (i.e. main menu, header, ...) is build using normal Asp.Net code using a master page. The content of that page uses jQuery to display dynamic forms and to send data to the server. If I push the return key on that page, I jump to a (more or less) random page - which is not what the user expects. ;-) There are some text areas and the user must be able to enter line breaks. Otherwise it would be fine to disable the return key completely. Any bullet proof way to do that? I found some solutions on the web, which capture the keypress event and ignore \x13, but that does not really work. It works as long as the page has just loaded, but as soon as I have clicked on some elements, the return key behaves as usuall. Any hint would be really appreciated! Achim

  • WPF MVVM ViewModel constructor designmode

    - by Snake
    Right, I've got a main wpf window: <Window x:Class="NorthwindInterface.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:ViewModels="clr-namespace:NorthwindInterface.ViewModels" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Window.DataContext> <ViewModels:MainViewModel /> </Window.DataContext> <ListView ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Customers}"> </ListView> </Window> And the MainViewModel is this: class MainViewModel : INotifyPropertyChanged { public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged = delegate { }; public MainViewModel() { Console.WriteLine("test"); using (NorthwindEntities northwindEntities = new NorthwindEntities()) { this.Customers = (from c in northwindEntities.Customers select c).ToList(); } } public List<Customer> Customers { get;private set; } Now the problem is that in designermode I can't see my MainViewModel, it highlights it saying that it can't create an instance of the MainViewModel. It is connecting to a database. That is why (when I comment the code the problem is solved). But I don't want that. Any solutions on best practices around this?

  • Adding & Removing Dynamic Controls in C# WinForms.

    - by gsvirdi
    I have three Tabs in my WinForm; depending on the selected RaioButton in the TabPages[0] I added few dynamic controls on the relevant TabPage. On Button_Click event the controls are added, but the prob is the I'm not able to remove the Dynamically added controls from the other (irrelevant) TabPage. Here's my code: Label label235 = new Label(); TextBox tbMax = new TextBox(); label235.Name = "label235"; tbMax.Name = "txtBoxNoiseMax"; label235.Text = "Noise"; tbMax.ReadOnly = true; label235.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Blue; tbMax.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.White; label235.Size = new Size(74, 13); tbMax.Size = new Size(85, 20); if (radioButton1.Checked) { label235.Location = new Point(8, 476); tbMax.Location = new Point(138, 473); tabControl.TabPages[1].Controls.Add(label235); tabControl.TabPages[1].Controls.Add(tbMax); tabControl.TabPages[2].Controls.RemoveByKey("label235"); tabControl.TabPages[2].Controls.RemoveByKey("tbMax"); } else { label235.Location = new Point(8, 538); tbMax.Location = new Point(138, 535); tabControl.TabPages[1].Controls.RemoveByKey("label235"); tabControl.TabPages[1].Controls.RemoveByKey("tbMax"); tabControl.TabPages[2].Controls.Add(label235); tabControl.TabPages[2].Controls.Add(tbMax); } Where am I making that mistake?????

  • C# Communication between threads.

    - by GT
    Hi, I am using .NET 3.5 and am trying to wrap my head around a problem (not being a supreme threading expert bear with me). I have a windows service which has a very intensive process that is always running, I have put this process onto a separate thread so that the main thread of my service can handle operational tasks - i.e., service audit cycles, handling configuration changes, etc, etc. I'm starting the thread via the typical ThreadStart to a method which kicks the process off - call it workerthread. On this workerthread I am sending data to another server, as is expected the server reboots every now and again and connection is lost and I need to re-establish the connection (I am notified by the lost of connection via an event). From here I do my reconnect logic and I am back in and running, however what I easily started to notice to happen was that I was creating this worker thread over and over again each time (not what I want). Now I could kill the workerthread when I lose the connection and start a new one but this seems like a waste of resources. What I really want to do, is marshal the call (i.e., my thread start method) back to the thread that is still in memory although not doing anything. Please post any examples or docs you have that would be of use. Thanks.

  • Databinding in WinForms performing async data import

    - by burnside
    I have a scenario where I have a collection of objects bound to a datagrid in winforms. If a user drags and drops an item on to the grid, I need to add a placeholder row into the grid and kick off a lengthy async import process. I need to communicate the status of the async import process back to the UI, updating the row in the grid and have the UI remain responsive to allow the user to edit the other rows. What's the best practice for doing this? My current solution is: binding a thread safe implementation of BindingList to the grid, filled with the objects that are displayed as rows in the grid. When a user drags and drops an item on to the grid, I create a new object containing the sparse info obtained from the dropped item and add that to the BindingList, disabling the editing of that row. I then fire off a separate thread to do the import, passing it the newly bound object I have just created to fill with data. The import process, periodically sets the status of the object and fires an event which is subscribed to by the UI telling it to refresh the grid to see the new properties on the object. Should I be passing the same object that is bound to the grid to the import process thread to operate on, or should I be creating a copy and merging back the changes to the object on the UI thread using BeginInvoke? Any problems or advice with this implementation? Thanks

  • sproutcore vs javascriptMVC for web app development

    - by swami
    Hi, I want to use a javascript framework with MVC for a complex web application (which will be one of a set of related apps and pages) for an intranet in a digital archives. I have been looking at SproutCore and JavascriptMVC. I want to choose one framework and stick with it. Does anybody know what the distinguishing features are when comparing these two? I want something that is simple, straightforward that I can customize/hack easily, and that doesn't get in my way too much, but that at the same time gives me a basis for keeping my code nicely organized, and event-driven. I also plan on using jquery substantially. I know sproutcore is backed by Apple, and looks like it is getting more popular by the day, and it has a nice green website :), whereas JavascriptMVC looks less professional, with less of a following and less momentum behind it. I've done the tutorials for both and I was impressed by SproutCore more (in the JMVC tutorial you don't really do anything substantial) - but somewhere in the back of my mind I feel that JMVC might just be better because it doesn't try and do too much - it just gives you MVC functionality based on a couple of jquery plugins, and you can use jquery for everything else, so its flexible. Whereas SproutCore seems to have more of its own API etc... which is also nice in a way... but then you're kind of stuck within that.... hmmm I'm confused :). Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Filtering log4net on method name - can't quite get it

    - by Mike Kingscott
    I'm using log4net to log my web app's progress, using Log4PostSharp to AOP-injectify all methods. This has the desired effect of logging (almost) everything and is fine. I now have a requirement to log JUST Page_Load methods to a file / console. I can obviously hamstring the log4postsharp class to do that, but then I'd be losing all the other logging. I've been looking at filters in log4net, starting with the StringMatch filter, but that only looks at the message being logged, and I'm after the method name. This put me onto the PropertyFilter, but still with no joy. My log4net.config snippet is thus: <appender name="RollingLogFileAppender" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender"> <filter type="log4net.Filter.PropertyFilter"> <key value="LocationInfo.MethodName"/> <stringToMatch value="Page_Load"/> </filter> <file value="d:\\xxxx\\yyyyy\\zzzzLog"/> As you can see, I'm trying to key into the MethodName of the logging event via LocationInfo, but I'm still getting everything logged. Can anyone assist? Thank you, Mike K.

  • Jquery Form ajaxSubmit not submitting

    - by Gazler
    Hi, I am using the JQuery Form extension to submit a form with AJAX. I have the following code: var options = { beforeSubmit: showRequest, // pre-submit callback success: showResponse, // post-submit callback // other available options: //url: url // override for form's 'action' attribute //type: 'post', // 'get' or 'post', override for form's 'method' attribute //dataType: null // 'xml', 'script', or 'json' (expected server response type) clearForm: true, // clear all form fields after successful submit //resetForm: true // reset the form after successful submit // $.ajax options can be used here too, for example: timeout: 3000 }; $('#composeForm').submit(function() { // inside event callbacks 'this' is the DOM element so we first // wrap it in a jQuery object and then invoke ajaxSubmit $(this).find(':disabled').removeAttr('disabled'); $(this).ajaxSubmit(options); // !!! Important !!! // always return false to prevent standard browser submit and page navigation return false; }); The problem is that the form doesn't appear to be submitting, or atleast the success function is not being called. If I remove the return false, then the submission works, but the page navigates away. Is there a problem in my code that could be causing this? Cheers, Gazler.

  • mfc tab control switch tabs

    - by MRM
    I created a simple tab control that has 2 tabs (each tab is a different dialog). The thing is that i don't have any idea how to switch between tabs (when the user presses Titlu Tab1 to show the dialog i made for the first tab, and when it presses Titlu Tab2 to show my other dialog). I added a handler for changing items, but i don't know how should i acces some kind of index or child for tabs. Tab1.h and Tab2.h are headers for dialogs that show only static texts with the name of the each tab. There may be an obvious answer to my question, but i am a real newbie in c++ and MFC. This is my header: // CTabControlDlg.h : header file // #pragma once #include "afxcmn.h" #include "Tab1.h" #include "Tab2.h" // CCTabControlDlg dialog class CCTabControlDlg : public CDialog { // Construction public: CCTabControlDlg(CWnd* pParent = NULL); // standard constructor // Dialog Data enum { IDD = IDD_CTABCONTROL_DIALOG }; protected: virtual void DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX); // DDX/DDV support // Implementation protected: HICON m_hIcon; // Generated message map functions virtual BOOL OnInitDialog(); afx_msg void OnSysCommand(UINT nID, LPARAM lParam); afx_msg void OnPaint(); afx_msg HCURSOR OnQueryDragIcon(); DECLARE_MESSAGE_MAP() public: CTabCtrl m_tabcontrol1; CTab1 m_tab1; CTab2 m_tab2; afx_msg void OnTcnSelchangeTabcontrol(NMHDR *pNMHDR, LRESULT *pResult); }; And this is the .cpp: // CTabControlDlg.cpp : implementation file // #include "stdafx.h" #include "CTabControl.h" #include "CTabControlDlg.h" #ifdef _DEBUG #define new DEBUG_NEW #endif // CAboutDlg dialog used for App About class CAboutDlg : public CDialog { public: CAboutDlg(); // Dialog Data enum { IDD = IDD_ABOUTBOX }; protected: virtual void DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX); // DDX/DDV support // Implementation protected: DECLARE_MESSAGE_MAP() }; CAboutDlg::CAboutDlg() : CDialog(CAboutDlg::IDD) { } void CAboutDlg::DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX) { CDialog::DoDataExchange(pDX); } BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(CAboutDlg, CDialog) END_MESSAGE_MAP() // CCTabControlDlg dialog CCTabControlDlg::CCTabControlDlg(CWnd* pParent /*=NULL*/) : CDialog(CCTabControlDlg::IDD, pParent) { m_hIcon = AfxGetApp()->LoadIcon(IDR_MAINFRAME); } void CCTabControlDlg::DoDataExchange(CDataExchange* pDX) { CDialog::DoDataExchange(pDX); DDX_Control(pDX, IDC_TABCONTROL, m_tabcontrol1); } BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(CCTabControlDlg, CDialog) ON_WM_SYSCOMMAND() ON_WM_PAINT() ON_WM_QUERYDRAGICON() //}}AFX_MSG_MAP ON_NOTIFY(TCN_SELCHANGE, IDC_TABCONTROL, &CCTabControlDlg::OnTcnSelchangeTabcontrol) END_MESSAGE_MAP() // CCTabControlDlg message handlers BOOL CCTabControlDlg::OnInitDialog() { CDialog::OnInitDialog(); // Add "About..." menu item to system menu. // IDM_ABOUTBOX must be in the system command range. • Is an LSA MSV1_0 subauthentication package needed for some impersonation use cases?

    - by Chris Sears
    Greetings, I'm working with a vendor who has implemented some code that uses a Windows LSA MSV1_0 subauthentication package (MSDN info if you're interested: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa374786(VS.85).aspx ) and I'm trying to figure out if it's necessary. As far as I can tell, the subauthentication routine and filter allow for hooking or customizing the standard LSA MSV1_0 logon event processing. The issue is that I don't understand why the vendor's product would need these capabilities. I've asked them and they said they use it to perform impersonation. The product definitely does need to do impersonation, but based on my limited win32 knowledge, they could get the functionality they need using the normal auth APIs (LsaLogonUser, ImpersonateLoggedOnUser, etc) without the subauthentication package. Furthermore, I've worked with a number of similar products that all do impersonation, and this is the only one that's used a subauthentication package. If you're wondering why I would care, a previous version of the product had a bug in the subauthentication package dll that would cause lockups or bluescreens. That makes me rather nervous and has me questioning the use of such a low-level, kernel sensitive interface. I'd like to go back to the vendor and say "There's no way you could need an LSA subauth package for impersonation - take it out", but I'm not sure I understand the use cases and possible limitations of the standard win32 authentication/impersonation APIs well enough to make that claim definitively. So, to the win32 security gurus out there, is there any reason you would need an LSA MSV1_0 subauthentication package if all you were doing is impersonation? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
