  • Connecting Android app to MySQL database

    Can somebody help me with question related with MySQL database using? Yesterday i was making app for getting some text data and sending them to database located on remote server! I was making POST request to database and sent few text fields to one table in database. So MY QUESTION IS: "Can I use MySQL directly (not though POST method )? and how to use it ?" (will be so glad to see url to solutions or examples) P.S. when i was sending data to server i have some errors in database fields when sending russian characters (what type of encoding sending from my app to server????)

  • seeking help with Chrome & Safari not rendering my table stretched to fit its contents...help?

    I have an element on this web page I'm developing where I need my text to conform to the width of an image above it - whose width will always be different - think of captions. I have found numerous references to using a 1px table to force this width sizing behaviour. I am having problems, though with Safari and Chrome "seeing" this instruction - the text ends up as a marginally sized text box sitting behind the image. The problem, as I see it, has to do with the text and images sitting in div's nested within the table. I need the images to sit in a div because of some jquery script I'm using called cycle, which turns a group of images into a slideshow. The problem may have something to do with the script as well. In any case, I have tried a seeming infinite number of combination of floating left and clearing left on all all the divs, changing their positions and widths...nothing works. Anyone have any clues about how to broach this one?   • How to change word recognition in vim spell?

    I like that vim 7.0 supports spell checking via :set spell, and I like that it by default only checks comments and text strings in my C code. But I wanted to find a way to change the behavior so that vim will know that when I write words containing underscores, I don't want that word spell checked. The problem is that I often will refer to variable or function names in my comments, and so right now vim thinks that each piece of text that isn't a complete correct word is a spelling error. Eg. /* The variable proj_abc_ptr is used in function do_func_stuff' */ Most of the time, the pieces seperated by underscores are complete words, but other times they are abbreviations that I would prefer not to add to a word list. Is there any global way to tell vim to include _'s as part of the word when spell checking?

  • jQuery won't parse xml with nodes called option

    hi all, I'm using jQuery to parse some XML, like so: function enumOptions(xml) { $(xml).find("animal").each(function(){ alert($(this).text()); }); } enumOptions("<root><animal>cow</animal><animal>squirrel</animal></root>"); This works great. However if I try and look for nodes called "option" then it doesn't work: function enumOptions(xml) { $(xml).find("option").each(function(){ alert($(this).text()); }); } enumOptions("<root><option>cow</option><option>squirrel</option></root>"); There's no error, just nothing gets alerted, as if the find isn't finding anything. It only does it for nodes called option everything else I tested works ok! I'm using the current version of jQuery - 1.4.2. Anyone any idea? TIA. bg

  • Correct way to textually report the remaining time on a long running process?

    So you have a long running process, perhaps with a progress bar, and you want a text estimate of the remaining time, eg: "5 minutes remaining" "30 seconds remaining" etc. If you don't actually want to report clock time (due to accuracy or resolution or update-rate issues) but want to stick to the text summary, what is the correct paradigm? Is "one minute" left displayed from 0 to 60 seconds? or from 1:00 to 1:59? Say there's 1:35 Left - is that "2 minutes remaining" or "1 minute remaining"? Do you just pare it down to "A few minutes left" when you're less than 3 minutes? What is the preferred (least user-frustrating) method?

  • How to link .lib library in linux

    I'm pretty new to c programming and want to port a windows c application to linux. My code uses a .lib file va_g729.lib - is it possible to use the same library in Linux and compile it with gcc? All my .c and .h files along with the one .lib files are in the same directory. What I'm doing now is executing this command in the directory: gcc *.c -lm and I get following errors: lbcodec2.c:(.text+0xa6b): undefined reference to `va_g729a_init_encoder' lbcodec2.c:(.text+0xa83): undefined reference to `va_g729a_encoder' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status Is it possible to link the .lib file and compile with gcc? The problem is that the function returns different results if i change the order of possible encodings with mb_detect_order() function.   • Why is Django sending the wrong email template?

    I'm so baffled... I keep staring at this code, looking for the typo, but I can't find it! template = 'emails/transporter_joined' tt = loader.get_template(template+'.txt') c = Context({'user':user, 'fee': settings.FEE * Decimal('100.00'),'settings':settings}) e = EmailMultiAlternatives('Activate Your Account', tt.render(c), '[email protected]', [user.email]) try: ht = loader.get_template(template+'.html') e.attach_alternative(ht.render(c), 'text/html') except: pass e.send() First it should load the 'emails/transporter_joined.txt' template, and adds that to the email. And then it tries to load a '.html' version and attaches that too. In Gmail you can see the the "original email" with both emails, and all the headers in plain text. It very clearly shows the .txt version twice. the .html and .txt files are definitely different. What am I doing wrong here? If I replace this tt = loader.get_template(template+'.txt') With .html instead, then it sends the .html twice... it must be Django that's screwing up, no?

I would like the hide the dropdown list whenever there aren't any items in the list.   • Browser Detection, do's and don'ts. Is this ok?

    So, I understand that browser detection (ie. navigator.userAgent) shouldn't be used to decide which object method/property to use; yet, I want to set some simple CSS with JavaScript depending on the browser. However, it's not enough to justify a completely new StyleSheet. So is it OK if I use Browser Detection to decide what CSS to apply to an element? EDIT Ok, let's be SPECIFIC. I'm talking about a text-shadow inside a button (<input type="button"/>) The text inside the button isn't vertically centered in all browsers, so I tweak this with JS depending on the browser.

    Hi guys, I have an HTML form consisting of some text-inputs. I'm using jqTransform to prettify them. Now I want to add two buttons that will add and remove text-input dynamically. Adding is easy: $('#container').append(''); $('input[name=foo]:last-child').jqTransInputText(); But removing is tricky: $('WHAT-TO-SELECT').remove(); I can't do "input[name=foo]:last-child" since it's already wrapped (some divs) by jqTransform. To put this question in another way: How do I select based on "who has child of type input with 'foo' as its name"?
