• How to use ORDER BY, LOWER .. in SQL SERVER 2008 with non-unicode data

  Hi, The question is about Armenian. I'm using sql server 2005, collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, data mostly is in Armenian and we can't use unicode. I tested on ms sql 2008 with a windows collation for armenian language ( Cyrillic_General_100_ ), I have found here, ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188046.aspx ) but it didn't help. I have a function, that orders hex values and a lower function, which takes each char in each string and converts it to it's lower form, but it's not acceptable solution, it works really slow, calling that functions on every column of a huge table. Is there any solution for this issue not using unicode and not working with hex values manually?

• One project in Delphi 2007 doesn't show procedure name in the IDE Obj Inspector's Events

  I have a Delphi project in 2007 that doesn't show the procedure names in the Object Inspector's Events such as Form OnClose, OnCreate or OnShow in the IDE. The code is there and if you click on OnCreate (for example) you are taken to the code and the IDE fills in the name of procedure. However on reload, the procedures are missing from the IDE again. This same project causes various error messages when Delphi closes also, but I am not sure if this is related (no other project developed under this Delphi does but this one is the largest app and uses several 3rd party add-in libraries). I have moved this app to various Delphi 2007 installations and it reacts the same, so it isn't a corrupt Delphi situation. Is there any way to rebuild or fix a corrupt project like this? Any help would be appreciated.

• Change My.Settings ConnectionString in runtime?

  I have a ClickOnce deployment where i have a INI-settings file on the network file with "global" settings that is supposed to affect the program on all client computers. The problem i have is that i whant to have the Database connectionString stored in this INI file and have it read and stored in the My.Settings ConnectionString at program startup. How do i do this? The ConnectionString setting is Application scoped and therefore Read-Only, if i try to set it by My.Settings("ConnectionString") = "Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;Integrated Security=True" I get a runtime error: An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: The type initializer for 'DB_lib.DB_LINQ' threw an exception. [EDIT] I got rid of the error by using the My.Settings("ConnectionString") = "Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;Integrated Security=True" in another place then the the eventtriggerd settingsLoaded method i created.. The problem is that even though the connectionstring semes to be the right, the program still connects to the "default" database that is typed in to the app.config file??

  FileMaker Pro 10 Server: Mac OS X Server 10.4.11 DAtA Server: Windows Server 2008 I am having problem cross platform issue when exporting XML from FileMaker Pro client on a Mac to DATA Server. My FileMaker Pro server is hosting on a Mac OS X and the I need user to export their data to a DATA server which is hosting on a Windows Server. I created a button(function/script) in the FileMaker form for user to export data once they finish with their job. FileMaker Pro client on the PC works perfectly but It does't work on the MAC. I've tried every combination I can think of for the location path as documented on: http://www.filemaker.com/11help/html/create_db.8.32.html#1030283 Any idea? Thanks

• Special characters in PHP / MySQL

  Hi, I have in the database words that include special character (in Spanish mostly, like tildes). In the database everything is saved and shown correctly with PHPmyAdmin, but when I get the data (using PHP) and display it in a browser, I get a weird character, like a "?" with a square... I need a general fix so I don't need to escape each character every time, and also I would be able to insert special Spanish characters from a PHP form into the database... The HTML is correct: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> All tables and databas are set to utf8_spanish The character I get: ? Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

• ActiveX controls with old Delphi versions

  I'm testing a non visual ActiveX control based on a registered .ocx which I import into Delphi using the provided wizard. Then, I simply put the generated component on the main form of a new VCL application. Under old Delphi versions (D5 and D2007), when i launch the application, this raise an AV during the component initialization. with Delphi 2009 : no problem, the application starts smoothly. My questions are : Are there known enhancements of ActiveX management in recent Delphi versions which can explain this difference ? Can I suspect a bug in the ActiveX control, or can I consider the origin of the problem is from old Delphi versions ? I need to use this component (if tests OK) in D2007. Do you think that it is possible to correct the AV problem under D2007 by modifying the D2007 generated .tlb file (for example by trying to use the D2009 generated one) PS: the ActiveX control is not named, because my question is a general question about Delphi and ActiveX, not about a specific ActiveX control.

• Why can I not register a PropertyEditor for String in Spring MVC?

  I'm using Spring 3.0.3. I've enabled the default ConversionService by adding this line to my Spring configuration XML. <mvc:annotation-driven/> I'm also using custom PropertyEditor's for certain data types, so I've registered them for corresponding data types like the following and they work fine. webDataBinder.registerCustomEditor(Date.class, new MyPropertyEditor()); I have a custom tag library that extends Spring's Form tag library, and I can acess these PropertyEditor's through getPropertyEditor() of AbstractDataBoundFormElementTag. What I don't understand is that I can't register a custom PropertyEditor for String for some reason. The following wouldn't work. webDataBinder.registerCustomEditor(String.class, new MyPropertyEditor()); When I do getPropertyEditor(), it always returns a ConvertingPropertyEditorAdapter, instead of MyPropertyEditor. Is this a bug? EDIT: I realized that I didn't do some stuff right. Spring works just fine.

• Reading correctly alphanumeric fields into R

  A tab-delimited text file, which is actually an export (using bcp) of a database table, is of that form: 102 1 01 e113c 3224.96 12 102 1 01 e185 101127.25 12 102 2 01 e185 176417.90 12 102A 3 01 e185 26261.03 12 I tried to import it in R with a command like data <- read.delim("C:\\test.txt", header = FALSE, sep = "\t") The problem is that the 3rd column which is actually a varchar field (alphanumeric) is mistakenly read as integer (as there are no letters in the entire column) and the leading zeros disappeared. The same thing happened when I imported the data directly from the database, using odbcConnect. Again that column was read as integer. str(data) $ code: int 1 1 1 1 1 1 6 1 1 8 ... How can I import such a dataset in R correctly, so as to be able to safely populate that db table again, after doing some data manipulations?

  i have class Profile has_many :favorite_books, :dependent => :destroy has_many :favorite_quotes, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :favorite_books, :allow_destroy => true accepts_nested_attributes_for :favorite_quotes, :allow_destroy => true end I have a dynamic form where you press '+' to add new textareas for creating new favorites. What i want to do is ignore the blank ones, I find this harder to sort through in the update controller than a non nested attribute. What i have temporarily is a hack in the after_save callback deleting the empty records. Whats the most rails way to ignore these blank objects? I dont want validation and errors, just a silent deletion/ignore.

  I'm new to CodeIgniter and routing. I have a Login controller whose index() loads up a view to enter a username/password. In the view, the form has action="login/authenticate". Login-authenticate() determines if the login is valid or not. If it's valid, redirect('lobby'), if not redirect('login') routes.php: $route['default_controller'] = "login" config.php: $config['base_url'] = "http://localhost/dts/"; $config['index_page'] = "index.php"; The problem is that when i go to http://localhost/dts/ , click login, I am correctly (?) redirected to http://localhost/dts/login/authenticate but the browser says Object not found!. But when I go to http://localhost/dts/index.php/ (with trailing slash), it works correctly (I get redirected to http://localhost/dts/index.php/login/authenticate, and am logged in) I tried removing "index.php" by using a .htaccess: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|images|robots\.txt) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] and it would no longer open even the http://localhost/dts/ I'm confused.. what's going on?

• Need help with ConnectionString value in C#

  Hi I have an idea and I want to apply it to my Application (C# .NET). When we connect to a DB (MS SQL Server 2008) in VS 2008, the ConnectionString saved in the Application Setting and it's a static varriable (no one can edit it unless you edit it inside VS 2008). I want a way to let my Application search for MS SQL Server and save it to Application Setting and use it to connect to my DB Programmatically. When my application start, the first thing to do is checking the ConnectionString if vaild, NOT Empty and test connection to MS SQL Server Successfully so if there is a proplem I think to show a window form to let the user enter some data like username and password for MS SQL Server 2008 Is there any way to do it?

• python modules difference: .c/.h vs. .py

  I'm very new to python, as i'm embedding it (in form of a static lib) in an ios project. It's not possible for me to dynamically load python modules, so i would like to compile my modules along with python. For modules shipped with the python source this works (by modifying setup.py or Module/Setup), but when i downloaded a third party module i noticed, i don't fully understand the mechanism. The modules shipped with python come with a .c file in the Modules dir as well as a .py file in the Lib dir. My third party module just comes with .py files. 1.Why do those modules have different file extensions? 2.How to integrate a module coming with .py files in an embedded python version? Obviously pasting them in Modules/Setup does require some .c files. 3.Do these .c files have something to do with the Python C-Api? I guess i'm missing something essential :) Help is much appreciated.

• How does Hadoop perform input splits?

  Hi, This is a conceptual question involving Hadoop/HDFS. Lets say you have a file containing 1 billion lines. And for the sake of simplicity, lets consider that each line is of the form <k,v> where k is the offset of the line from the beginning and value is the content of the line. Now, when we say that we want to run N map tasks, does the framework split the input file into N splits and run each map task on that split? or do we have to write a partitioning function that does the N splits and run each map task on the split generated? All i want to know is, whether the splits are done internally or do we have to split the data manually? More specifically, each time the map() function is called what are its Key key and Value val parameters? Thanks, Deepak

• SQL SERVER – Create a Very First Report with the Report Wizard

  This example is from the Beginning SSRS by Kathi Kellenberger. Supporting files are available with a free download from the www.Joes2Pros.com web site. What is the report Wizard? In today’s world automation is all around you. Henry Ford began building his Model T automobiles on a moving assembly line a century ago and changed the world. The moving assembly line allowed Ford to build identical cars quickly and cheaply. Henry Ford said in his autobiography “Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.” Today you can buy a car straight from the factory with your choice of several colors and with many options like back up cameras, built-in navigation systems and heated leather seats. The assembly lines now use robots to perform some tasks along with human workers. When you order your new car, if you want something special, not offered by the manufacturer, you will have to find a way to add it later. In computer software, we also have “assembly lines” called wizards. A wizard will ask you a series of questions, often branching to specific questions based on earlier answers, until you get to the end of the wizard. These wizards are used for many things, from something simple like setting up a rule in Outlook to performing administrative tasks on a server. Often, a wizard will get you part of the way to the end result, enough to get much of the tedious work out of the way. Once you get the product from the wizard, if the wizard is not capable of doing something you need, you can tweak the results. Create a Report with the Report Wizard Let’s get started with your first report!  Launch SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) from the Start menu under SQL Server 2012. Once SSDT is running, click New Project to launch the New Project dialog box. On the left side of the screen expand Business Intelligence and select Reporting Services. Configure the properties as shown in . Be sure to select Report Server Project Wizard as the type of report and to save the project in the C:\Joes2Pros\SSRSCompanionFiles\Chapter3\Project folder. Click OK and wait for the Report Wizard to launch. Click Next on the Welcome screen.  On the Select the Data Source screen, make sure that New data source is selected. Type JProCo as the data source name. Make sure that Microsoft SQL Server is selected in the Type dropdown. Click Edit to configure the connection string on the Connection Properties dialog box. If your SQL Server database server is installed on your local computer, type in localhost for the Server name and select the JProCo database from the Select or enter a database name dropdown. Click OK to dismiss the Connection Properties dialog box. Check Make this a shared data source and click Next. On the Design the Query screen, you can use the query builder to build a query if you wish. Since this post is not meant to teach you T-SQL queries, you will copy all queries from files that have been provided for you. In the C:\Joes2Pros\SSRSCompanionFiles\Chapter3\Resources folder open the sales by employee.sql file. Copy and paste the code from the file into the Query string Text Box. Click Next. On the Select the Report Type screen, choose Tabular and click Next. On the Design the Table screen, you have to figure out the groupings of the report. How do you do this? Well, you often need to know a bit about the data and report requirements. I often draw the report out on paper first to help me determine the groups. In the case of this report, I could group the data several ways. Do I want to see the data grouped by Year and Month? Do I want to see the data grouped by Employee or Category? The only thing I know for sure about this ahead of time is that the TotalSales goes in the Details section. Let’s assume that the CIO asked to see the data grouped first by Year and Month, then by Category. Let’s move the fields to the right-hand side. This is done by selecting Page > Group or Details >, as shown in, and click Next. On the Choose the Table Layout screen, select Stepped and check Include subtotals and Enable drilldown, as shown in. On the Choose the Style screen, choose any color scheme you wish (unlike the Model T) and click Next. I chose the default, Slate. On the Choose the Deployment Location screen, change the Deployment folder to Chapter 3 and click Next. At the Completing the Wizard screen, name your report Employee Sales and click Finish. After clicking Finish, the report and a shared data source will appear in the Solution Explorer and the report will also be visible in Design view. Click the Preview tab at the top. This report expects the user to supply a year which the report will then use as a filter. Type in a year between 2006 and 2013 and click View Report. Click the plus sign next to the Sales Year to expand the report to see the months, then expand again to see the categories and finally the details. You now have the assembly line report completed, and you probably already have some ideas on how to improve the report.   I am looking to access the actual value returned from the server.getRowData returns the value after unformat applied to the value. This results in loss of information. For instance, if a double value is rounded to two decimal places and if I want to populate the form for edit with the original value returned from the server with 6 decimals, how can I get the value returned. for eg: Value returned from server : 12.345678 formatter option for column : formatter: 'number', formatoptions: {thousandsSeparator: ",", decimalPlaces: 2} Value displayed in grid : 12.35 How do I retrieve the value 12.345678 returned from the server. getRowData returns 12.35

• OpenCV SVD Matrix format.

  I currently have a set of 2D Cartesian coordinates e.g. {(1,3), (2,2), (3,4)} Which will be put into a 2D array, to perform SVD properly would the matrix be put together such that the coordinates form the columns or the rows e.g. 1 3 2 2 3 4 or 1 2 3 3 2 4 I have been doing a little trial and error comparing to examples of SVD I have found online, the resulting matrix usually seems to be negated, with some of the values shuffled around. To clarify further if I had a matrix E which was MxN as shown here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bb/Matrix.svg To define the matrix as a 2D array would it be Array[M][N] or Array[N][M] I am assuming this actually matters due to matrix arithmetic not being commutative? Can anyone actually verify this?

Thank you for all of the answers unfortunatly I was not specific enough... It looks like it is simply passing an argument to a constructor of class or companion object Http. In another example, I've seen another form: http = new Http http(/* argument here */) Is this valid Scala? I guess it must be, because the author is a Scala expert. But it makes no sense to me. Actions are usually performed by invoking methods on objects, whether explicitly as object.doSomething() or implicitly as object = something (using the apply() method underneath the syntactic sugar). All I can think of is that a constructor is being used to do something in addition to constructing an object. In other words, it is having side effects, such as in this case going off and doing something on the web.

• Scope of the Pages in a Silverlight application

  I have an app built with the Silverlight Navigation Application Template. I have a main form (e.g. MainPage.xaml) and a bunch of Silverlight Pages, which are swapped in and out of the main content area. In the MainPage.xaml, I have a DispatcherTimer which hits some Uri resources, regardless of which page I am on. Every now and then, it will inexplicably stop firing. I have an inkling that it has to do with the scope of various pages. Can pages inside the MainPage.xaml take away the scope from its parent? Or is this something much simpler?
