• Files are piling up in /usr/src/. How can I stop this?

  I have been having many serious system issues over the past few weeks and have been scratching my head as to why. I've now worked out that this problem is having no inodes left on the root partition $ df -i Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/sda6 732960 724565 8395 99% / udev 125179 518 124661 1% /dev tmpfs 127001 464 126537 1% /run none 127001 4 126997 1% /run/lock none 127001 8 126993 1% /run/shm /dev/sda7 5234688 144639 5090049 3% /home What is the cause? They also take up almost 2G of the 11G system partition that is getting full (80%) aside from the inode issue. How can I safely remove the headers that are not needed?

• Windows 7 and Vista Home Networked-Unable to login from Vista to Windows 7

  I set up both Vista and Windows 7 on the same workgroup. I can view Windows 7 from Vista and vice versa. I can login into Vista from Windows 7. I am unable to login to Windows 7 from Vista. When I enter the Windows 7 User name and Password on Vista, the following information appears: Logon unsuccessful: Windows is unable to log you on. Be sure that your user name and password are correct. Both are correct. Do you have any idea how I can resolve this logon issue? Thank you, Lynn

• Cannot ping my domain-joined server - Can only ping domain controller - host unreachable

  I have a HyperV Server hosting a Domain Controller VM (192.168.1.50) and another VM (192.168.1.51) joined to this domain. I have: domain controller as DNS server forward lookup zone for the domain with host record for 192.168.1.50 and 192.168.1.51 Windows client has primary DNS server set to 192.168.1.50 and secondary to my ISP I can ping 192.168.1.50 (domain controller) successfully but cannot ping 192.168.1.51 (domain-joined VM) When pinging from Windows client: ping 192.168.1.51 Reply from 192.168.1.129 : Destination host unreachable When pinging from Domain Controller: ping 192.168.1.51 Reply from 192.168.1.50 : Destination host unreachable I have 2 virtual network adapters one PRIVATE for intranet (set to static IP 192.168.1.51) and one PUBLIC for internet with a dynamic IP. I noticed the the PUBLIC one inherited the "mydomain.com" domain subtitle after joining the domain... I don't know what this meant but it seemed more intuitive to me to switch THIS ONE to have the static IP. After I configured that I still could not ping but now I get: ping 192.168.1.51 Request timed out What seems to be the issue, I'm relatively new to networking.

• prevent domain controller using wpad for windows update

  We have a 2012 domain controller in an environment where we are running a web proxy auto discovery (WPAD) setup for client devices, and that proxy server requires authentication. However windows update does not support proxy servers requiring authentication. So we want to prevent windows update on our servers from using the WPAD proxy settings. On a domain member server we can log in to the local administrator account (not domain admin) and un-tick the the "Auto detect proxy settings" in IE internet options and that fixes the issue on those servers. But a domain controller does not have a local admin account, as that account is the domain admin account. Doing this to the domain admin account on the DC does not prevent it from using WPAD. Our whole purpose of running a proxy server that requires authentication is so we can identify what the users on our session based remote desktop servers are doing on the internet. • Reading from a staging 2D texture array in DirectX10

  I have a DX10 program, where I create an array of 3 16x16 textures, then map, read, and unmap each subresource in turn. I use a single mip level, set resource usage to staging and CPU access to read. Now, here is the problem: Subresource 0 contains 1024 bytes, pitch 64, as expected. Subresource 1 contains 512 bytes, pitch 64. Subresource 2 contains 256 bytes, pitch 64. I expect all three to be the same size. Debugging output is enabled, but not reporting any warnings or errors. Am I missing something, or might this be some sort of driver issue? Here is the code. The language is Nemerle, but C# and C++ would look almost the same. • Routing internet through ethernet to a computer without a Wireless adapter

  I'm setting up a small home network. I have a laptop which connects to internet wirelessly- that works fine. I have a desktop connected to this laptop by an ethernet cable which I'd like to access the internet with. In the past, I have used a different laptop to do this and had no problems doing so. Both computers run Windows 7. I have tried setting up a homegroup and disabling Windows firewall, as well as restarting both computers. I can share data but my internet connection can not be accessed through the desktop. (I understand USB network adapters are cheap, I have one on the way but that doesn't solve this issue.) Any help or live chat support if you'd prefer would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Microsoft word slow switching and safe mode

  I don't know what I did, but recently when I opened Microsoft Word document, I experienced very slow app switch between it and other applications. When I start Word in Word's safe mode (as described here http://wordprocessing.about.com/od/troubleshootin1/qt/safemode.htm ), the issue disappears. Now I don't know where to find out which plugins were loaded that's causing the problem. Or where the normal.dot is if that's the problem. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks.

• Postfix SMTP server down on Ubuntu

  I have a Plesk server running Postfix on Ubuntu 10.04 and the SMTP service on port 25 is down. When I stop and then start postfix the server comes up only for a minute and goes down again. I have checked the load on the server and it is low as shown: *top - 04:29:33 up 19 days, 3:25, 4 users, load average: 1.47, 1.78, 2.34 Tasks: 936 total, 1 running, 935 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 0.7%us, 0.3%sy, 0.0%ni, 86.6%id, 11.7%wa, 0.6%hi, 0.1%si, 0.0%st Mem: 6110496k total, 6072988k used, 37508k free, 251244k buffers Swap: 12000544k total, 95264k used, 11905280k free, 4370432k cached* IMAP clients are not experiencing a problem and there are no issues with receiving emails for both POP or IMAP. Only SMTP (port 25) is a problem. If I ask clients to use the submission port (587) messages are delivered. netstat -lnt shows the following results , so its not a port issue. tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:25 0.0.0.0: LISTEN tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8443 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN*

• Ougoing telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

  I am trying to telnet from Ubuntu server (running Maverick) on ec2 to another machine I have set up not on ec2 - we'll call it "server-x". The two machines are connected via vpn. I can ping from the ec2 machine to server-x no problem. On another machine also on the vpn but also not on ec2 I can telnet to server-x without issue so it is accepting incoming connections on that port. But when I run telnet from the ubuntu instance to server-x I get : ubuntu@ip-10-111-11-11:~$ telnet 5.1.1.1 9143 Trying 5.1.1.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused Other telnets work like this: ubuntu@ip-10-111-11-11:~$ telnet imap.gmail.com 993 Trying 173.194.76.108... Connected to gmail-imap.l.google.com. Escape character is '^]'. I have disabled ufw on the ubuntu machine. Is there anything else that can be blocking this outgoing connection? I tried adding the outgoing port to iptables but I'm not certain I'm doing that right.

• How do you find all the links to disavow for a Google reconsideration request? [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How to identify spammy domains giving backlinks to my site (to submit in disavow links in WMT) 2 answers A few months ago I received the following notification on Google Webmaster for a website I look after. Unnatural links to your site—impacts links Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole. Learn more. The question here is, should we actively attempt to disavow these links given that the action is seemingly targeted to just a bunch of keywords? I've downloaded the inbound links sample from Google Webmaster and so far I've been through the disavow and reconsideration requests process 6 times, each taking 2-3 weeks only to be supplied just 2 more links that Google don't approve of. At this rate it will take me the rest of my natural life to cleanup all these spammy links! It seems disavowing is futile as they haven't implemented broad actions against the website as a whole and (from what I can gather) have already nullified the value of those offending links. Under the quoted statement above however is a reconsideration request button that seems to imply I should be actively doing something here? UPDATE 14th October -- I have since created a small .NET application that you can feed the CSV sample links file into from Google Webmaster. What this tool does is crawl all the links and looks for specific linking patterns as per some configurable match strings. I realised that many of the links that Google are taking issue with were created by a rogue SEO firm we hired several years ago. All the links are appended with 1 of 5 different descriptions. The application I built uses some regexes to isolate any link sources with these matching appendages and automatically builds the disavow txt file. In the end it had to come down to an algorithm as manually disavowing links on this scale would take weeks! I will post the app here once I've cleaned it up.

• Dell XPS 420: Turning computer on, video ports showing static

  I have a Dell XPS 420 which i recently upgraded with a EVGA GTX 550TI and a 80GB SSD Drive. I converted this machine into a home theater PC. Which I've always had on. The computer wasn't responding, and so i restarted it and when it started, video ports showing static. I was getting static on my TV thru both DVI ports and the mini HDMI port. I assumed my video card had gone bad, but i completely replaced it and still the same behavior is occurring. I do not know how to diagnosis this issue. Any thoughts?

• Accessing localhost on my iPhone

  I've found similarly titled questions, but none that directly address my issue. I'm running Google App Engine server on my Macbook, and it was configured to use port 8080 on localhost. And so anytime I wanted to run my site, I'd just go to localhost:8080/saveuser and everything worked fine. Now, I want to access this same site on my iPhone. I can't just do localhost on my iPhone, so I set up Web Sharing on my mac, and it's set up to http://192.168.1.106/~mohabitar. I can access this from my iPhone, but it only displays a directory of my files, and doesn't actually run the Python script. The only way my Python scripts actually run is if I do localhost:8080 on my computer. What can I do about this?

• Passwords and Keys in Linux

  In a fit of desperation when I had my wireless connection die on me, I thought it was a problem with the key I had created at the start when I initially configured the wireless connection and hence deleted it. The option to create the key had presented itself when I created the wireless connection. It no longer asks me to. Now I am back online, do I have re-create the password and key I had before? If so, what do I choose and why? The options I have are as follows; PGP Stored password Password keyring Secure shell key The first and last option seem to be obvious and I have no idea about the differences between the second and third options. Why do I need a stored password or password keyring in all scenarios and not just the wireless issue I ran into? EDIT 0 Further to Belisama's comment, I have amended my question. • Wubi doens't work anymore - shows 'No wubildr' error

  Basics: HP Mini 311 Ubuntu netbook edition 10.04 (installed via Wubi) Symptoms: I load to Windows Boot Manager as usual. Options are Windows 7 and Ubuntu Netbook, like usual. Selecting Windows 7 does as it should. Loading Ubuntu Netbook, though, does not take me to the usual screen where it lets me select versions of Ubuntu (sorry for bad wording, not sure what the real name is called; it's where you select from about 6 items; I always picked the first due to lack of knowledge without issue). Instead it flashes an error in white on a black screen then restarts very quickly. It took me a few restarts, but here is the error: Try (hd0,0): NTSF5 No wubildr Try (hd0,1): NTSF5: Situation: I have no clue what caused it. The only thing I did last night on Ubuntu was install Skype, but the mic didn't work instantly so I got lazy and switched to Windows 7 and used Skype on there. When I tried to switch back to Ubuntu it began this. (There may be something I forget... it was 5 in the morning). There were no recent updates that I remember. No weird activity. Just... random. Help please?

• Increase application performance on Amazon AWS

  I've got a client with an MVC v1 (.NET) application running on a micro instance. On this instance, I've got .NET, IIS 7.5, and MS SQL Server 2008 running to handle the application. The client has reported that it is taking nearly 10 seconds to process each request. Even loading the initial login page takes about that long, then logging in takes that long, etc etc. The currently running instance specs are as follows: 615 MB RAM Intel Xenon CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz 2.78 GHz 64-Bit Is the memory availability the issue? or is it the processing power? I forsee two options: Change to a larget instance Set up a 2-tier architecture with two micro instances Which of these will give the application better performance? Thanks in advance.

  Recently we renamed our domain from single domain name COMPANY to COMPANY.LOCAL due to multiple problems. However now I get this information from BPA. Issue: The Active Directory integrated DNS zone _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL was not found. Impact: DNS queries for the Active Directory integrated zone _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL might fail. Resolution: Restore the Active Directory integrated DNS zone _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL. Clearly there is no _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL as there is only old one _msdcs.COMPANY however when i check under COMPANY there is no _msdsc, but there is one when i check inside COMPANY.LOCAL. So it seems to me that _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL should use the one that is inside COMPANY.LOCAL? Should it not? Should I try to recreate it by hand (since it wasn't created on domain rename).

• Internet Connection Sharing/FTP issues

  I am currently using a Linux Mint desktop along with a Windows 8 netbook running Internet Connection Sharing to my desktop. On my desktop, I can't access FTP sites, but my laptop can, so I think it might be a porting issue. I can ping the server from Mint, so I know it's up and running, but I can't access it via telnet. On my Windows 8 netbook, I have every protocol checked, including FTP. Originally, the FTP server indicated that "Scotty" (my netbook) was hosting the service, so I tried inputting the IP of my router, 192.168.1.1 to no avail. Any ideas?

• TCP Zero Window with no corresponding Window Update

  I am trying to debug a network issue and am using Wireshark and tcpdump to grab packets from my server. I have one client application that is grabbing all my available connections and then holding them, trying to send A LOT of data and essentially causing an unintentional DOS attack. While debugging I notice that I see my server sending "Window Closed" and "Zero Window" TCP packets - but never sending any "Window Update" packets. I am guessing this is why the client never lets go of the connections (it still has more data to send and is waiting). Has anyone ever seen this type of behavior before? Let's not get into the reasons why I haven't set up an iptables rule to limit concurrent connections (yeah I know). I also recently changed the MTU from 1500 to 9000 - could this have such a negative effect? (Linux) Thanks.

• MySQL dump, output each table row on a new line whilst using --extended-insert

  I'm having an issue, where for ease of use, I'd like to be able to format a command line MySQL dump so that each row of a given table is on a new line when using the --extended-insert option. Usually when using --extended-insert, every row of a given table is outputted on one line, and as far as I am aware there's no way to change this, other than post-processing the dump with perl or such like. The format I'm looking for is: -- -- Dumping data for table `ww_tbCountry` -- INSERT INTO `ww_tbCountry` (`iCountryId_PK`, `vCountryName`, `vShortName`, `iSortFlag`, `fTax`, `vCountryCode`, `vSageTaxCode`) VALUES (22, 'Albania', 'AL', 1, 0.00, '8', 'T9'), (33, 'Austria', 'AT', 1, 15.00, '40', 'T9'), (40, 'Belarus', 'BY', 1, 0.00, '112', 'T9'), (41, 'Belgium', 'BE', 1, 15.00, '56', 'T9'), (51, 'Bulgaria', 'BG', 1, 15.00, '100', 'T9' However, when I dump a database using Phpmyadmin, using --extended-insert, each row is dumped on a new line (as shown by the example above).   we are building a web front end for a internet access token management system that uses radius (freeradius) queried from a captive portal. Reason for building this part is the integration into the accounting and billing platform that operates behind the scenes (all other parts are currently available open source software) The structure is fairly standard, and setting up the basic bits were easy enough (authentication, traffic updates from the captive portal, account expiry date/times) - but I seem to have run out of ability when it comes to limiting an account by traffic consumed. So we can: set up usernames / passwords set expiry dates/times for a given user see the traffic for that user being accurately updated in RADACCT But we can't figure out the correct way/attribute to expire a user when they have consumed X octets of traffic. What attributes are used, or - maybe more accurately - what would be the correct way to use these attributes to limit an account to a certain volume of traffic? Any links to documentation appreciated - freeradius documentation doesn't seem to address the issue directly, or I'm looking in the wrong place... --mark

• Monitor RAM usage on CentOS and restart Apache at a certain usage

  Hi, I'm running a CentOS 5.3 server with a basic LAMP stack. I've optimized LAMP and my code to run efficiently as possible, but Apache has a memory leak somewhere that kills my server every hour or so. What is the best way to write a script that will monitor the memory usage and if it peaks over, say, 450MB kill all the Apache processes and restart Apache. I know C++/PHP and basic Linux server administration but I'm not familiar with Perl or bash scripting. I'd be open to learn any solutions, though, as a temporary solution while I find the issue.

• What happens when my domain provider cancels order after domain transfer?

  I purchased 2 domains say xyz.in and abc.com on october 2012 and I got emails that they will be expiring on oct 2013. I called my local domain provider and told him I'd like to transfer the domain from Webiq to GoDaddy to which he said I cannot unless the domain is active. He asked me to pay for both the domains, renew it and then I could transfer the domain via the domain panel. When I went to the domain panel I noticed that the order was made and so I made a transfer which happened successfully. Just as he mentioned the period of validity (1 year) for each domain got transferred to GoDaddy as well! Additionally, I added 1 year of period to both the domain via GoDaddy so both of them and also GoDaddy provided an extra free year to both these domains as I paid for the transfer on 11/10/2013 at 9:18 PM MST so both of these were stated to be valid till 2016 and that's what it showed when I did a whois lookup as well. But now it suddenly shows me that my domains are getting expired this year (and the whois also shows 2015). This is confusing as I have no idea who to blame for the missing one year. I'm wondering what would have happened say if my old domain provider's client who got my domain registered cancelled the order. Since it was no longer under their control would they still be able to deduce that one year? When I tried submitting a support request to Webiq they replied: Your domain "abc.com" has been transferred away from us on 17-11-2013 and the domain "xyz.in" was transferred away from us on 18-01-2014. There are no order cancellation actions placed. If you have any billing related issues kindly contact your parent reseller. I need some guidance on explaining what issue might have occurred or understanding how this domain control works!
