  • How do I add a function to an element via jQuery?

    - by Chad Johnson
I want to do something like this: $('.dynamicHtmlForm').validate = function() { return true; } $('.dynamicHtmlForm .saveButton').click(function() { if (!$(this).closest('.dynamicHtmlForm').validate()) { return false; } return true; }); And then when I have a form of class dynamicHtmlForm, I want to be able to provide a custom validate() function: $('#myDynamicHtmlForm').validate = function() { // do some validation if (there are errors) { return false; } return true; } But I get this when I do this: $(this).closest(".dynamicHtmlForm").validate is not a function Is what I've described even possible? If so, what am I doing wrong?

  • jquery window.unload triggers post after unload

    - by index
    I am trying to do a post to server before unloading a page and I followed this and it's working fine. My problem is the $.post on window.unload is triggered after it has unloaded. I tried it with a signout link and checking on my logs, I get the following: Started GET "/signout" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-11-22 00:15:08 +0800 Processing by SessionsController#destroy as HTML Redirected to http://localhost:3000/ Completed 302 Found in 1ms Started GET "/" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-11-22 00:15:08 +0800 Processing by HomeController#index as HTML Rendered home/index.html.erb within layouts/application (0.4ms) Rendered layouts/_messages.html.erb (0.1ms) Completed 200 OK in 13ms (Views: 12.9ms) Started POST "/unloading" for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-11-22 00:15:08 +0800 Processing by HomeController#unloading as */* Parameters: {"p1"=>"1"} WARNING: Can't verify CSRF token authenticity Completed 500 Internal Server Error in 0ms NoMethodError (undefined method `id' for nil:NilClass): app/controllers/home_controller.rb:43:in `unloading' First part is the signout and then user gets redirected to root then it runs the post ('/unloading'). Is there a way to make the '/unloading' execute first then execute whatever the unload action was? I have this as my jquery post $(window).unload -> $.ajax { async: false, beforeSend: (xhr) -> xhr.setRequestHeader('X-CSRF-Token', $('meta[name="csrf-token"]').attr('content')) , url: '/unloading' , type: 'Post' , data: { p1: '1' } }

  • How to Prevent an Applet from Unloading across web pages?

    - by Francis Shanahan
I have a large applet that takes some 40 seconds to initialize (cabs are cached so ignore download time for this question). The issue is, if the user goes to Page A which launches the applet (single window) and then navigates to page B, the applet is unloaded. If the user goes back to Page A, they incur the 40 seconds init time once again. I'd like to be able to launch the applet, incurring the 40 seconds init time once and only once. The applet needs to reside inside a single browser window (the same window as my web application). In other words, I cannot launch the applet in a popup. Does anyone have any creative ideas around how to prevent the applet unloading?

  • Unexpected token ILLEGAL with jQuery

    - by Bram Vanroy
So, I have a website with an autoFontSize script (Got it from stackoverflow, but slightly edited it too loop over each div with that specific class) (function ($) { $.fn.textfill = function (options) { this.each(function () { var fontSize = options.maxFontPixels; var ourText = $('h2 a', this); var maxHeight = $(this).height(); var maxWidth = $(this).width(); var textHeight; var textWidth; do { ourText.css('font-size', fontSize); textHeight = ourText.height(); textWidth = ourText.width(); fontSize = fontSize - 1; } while ((textHeight > maxHeight || textWidth > maxWidth) && fontSize > 16); }); return this; }; })(jQuery); $(document).ready(function () { $('.fotonode.fotopagina').textfill({ maxFontPixels: 30 }); });? And a (simplified) HTML structure: <div class="fotonode fotopagina"> <h2><a href="#">Testing Title</a></h2> </div> For some reason this doesn't work (neither locally nor live) BUT it does work on JSfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/Yb9yj/ I read somewhere that this can cause problems. I copied the code from jsfiddle to my file, so maybe I have (unintentionally) copied some white spaces that shouldn't be there or something. I don't know. But how can I solve this then?

  • Hover only on non-transparent part of image

    - by Nirmal
Is there any way to make only a non-transparent portion of an image to trigger mouse-over event? If the mouse travels to the transparent area, the mouse-out should be triggered and the script should listen for any mouse-over event on a layer underneath the image. Is it possible? Thanks for any input.

  • How to re-enable the context menu in this case?

    - by lemonedo
document.addEventListener('contextmenu', function (e) { e.preventDefault() e.stopPropagation() e.returnValue = false e.cancleBubble = true }) No way? Edit: document.oncontextmenu = null does not work. P.S. I cannot have the reference of the listener function since I am not the owner of the site preventing the context menu.

  • The Function Works But Reports this.refresh() is not a function

    - by ren1999
    I get this.refresh() is not a function in the error log every time I use this function but it works fine. Also, when I click on this function for the first time, this.value=undefined. When I click the function again in this form and every other form, the value populates just fine with the previous value. What could I be doing wrong? How do I write this function more efficiently? I still don't quite understand how to use this.value to capture and store a value within an array. Please notice that I added ---- where there should be a '----<' to be able to display the code. function askGender(x) {response="----select class=widgetstyle onClick=_setGender(this.value)----option value=FemaleFemale----option value=MaleMale"; characters[x].setGender(response); if(this.gender!=0) {response=this.gender; this.gender=0; characters[x].setGender(response); } } function _setGender(x) {this.gender=x; this.refresh(); }

  • jqGrid: Is it possible to commit a cell change when tabbing off instead of pressing Enter?

    - by The Matt
I have a simple in-line edit in my grid, and I want to commit the change when the user tabs off the textbox. The default behavior of jqGrid forces the user to press 'Enter' to commit the change, but this is non-intuitive for our users. onSelectRow: function(id) { $(gridCoreGroups).editRow(id, true, undefined, function(response) { alert("hello world"); } } I've worked my way through the events provided, but they all happen as a result of the user pressing 'Enter', which I want to avoid. Is there something I can wire up that would trigger an action when the user tabs off this cell?

  • show a particular div until content is loaded into another div from xml file in phonegap webservice

    - by Balu
I am doing a webservice in phonegap. Here the application fetch values from a xml file in remote server when user search particular keyword and load the content to a div in my application. Here my problem is I want to show toast message like "loading..." or "progressing..." till the content is loaded into the div of application.I have created a toast message. But I dont know how to hide the toast message after the content is loaded since the time for fetching values from xml file is different for different keywords. • Call an anonymous function defined in a setInterval

    - by Tominator
Hi, I've made this code: window.setInterval(function(){ var a = doStuff(); var b = a + 5; }, 60000) The actual contents of the anonymous function is of course just for this small example as it doesn't matter. What really happens is a bunch of variables get created in the scope of the function itself, because I don't need/want to pollute the global space. But as you all know, the doStuff() function won't be called until 60 seconds in the page. I would also like to call the function right now, as soon as the page is loaded, and from then on every 60 seconds too. Is it somehow possible to call the function without copy/pasting the inside code to right after the setInterval() line? As I said, I don't want to pollute the global space with useless variables that aren't needed outside the function.

  • Jquery Slider PNG black borders IE8

    - by Thomas
Greetings, I'm having a lot of trouble with the IE8 buy of getting black borders when using a JQUERY slider, with PNG transparent images. Using a slightly modified version of the Nivio slider. I have searched high and low for fixes and blocks of code but so far none have worked. What happens is that as soon as the img cycles it gets the black border and looks like shit (only in IE8). Does anyone know a working fix for this? Or do we just have to ban IE from all computers?

  • Jquery UI dialog does not disappear

    - by iamrohitbanga
I am using jquery-ui tabs and dialog functionality. Each tab has a button on the page which opens a dialog. This works for one of the tabs. However if I go the second tab, the button does not work there. When I come back to the first tab, the dialog does show up but the problem is I notice as I make switches back and forth to the first tab, it keeps on inserting new div's while the old div's have display:none set on them. I am doing this using JSP. This is how the reusable jsp looks like: <script> $(function() { var formData = null; $.ajax({ url : "addFormGenerator.html", success : function(data) { formData = data; $("#addFormDialog").html(data); $("#addFormDialog").dialog({ autoOpen : false, height : 300, width : 350, modal : true, buttons : { "Add" : function() { $(this).dialog("close"); }, Cancel : function() { $(this).dialog("close"); } }, close : function() { } }); } }); $("#addButton").button().click(function() { $("#addFormDialog").html(formData); $("#addFormDialog").dialog("open"); }); }); </script> <button id="addButton">Click here to Add New</button> <div id="addFormDialog" title="Add New"></div> This jsp fragment is included in other jsp pages as well. I was assuming as I switch between tabs the old button will be garbage collected. Can you help me understand the problem and fix it?

  • Implementing a client for ActiveMQ events

    - by recipriversexclusion
I can listen to events from a certain topic in an ActiveMQ server using a simple asynchronous listener and print the incoming events to the console (code to that actually comes as an example in the activemq-cpp library). I would like to create clients on other machines that will listen to these events and update their displays. My question is: how to best go about doing this? Are there any Ajax examples you can point me that implement similar functionality? Or is there another technology (comet?) that is better to use for this scenario? How can I display the events in teh browser window as they are received by the client, should I use JQuery?

  • Alternate colors on click with jQuery

    - by Jace Cotton
I'm sure there is a simple solution to this, and I'm sure this is a duplicate question, though I have been unable to solve my solution particularly because I don't really know how to phrase it in order to search for other questions/solutions, so I'm coming here hoping for some help. Basically, I have spans with classes that assigns a background-color property, and inside those spans are words. I have three of these spans, and each time a user clicks on a span I want the class to change (thus changing the background color and inner text). HTML: <span class="alternate"> <span class="blue showing">Lorem</span> <span class="green">Ipsum</span> <span class="red">Dolor</span> </span> CSS: .alternate span { display : none } .alternate .showing { display : inline } .blue { background : blue } .green { background : green } .red { background : red } jQuery: $(".alternate span").each(function() { $(this).on("click", function() { $(this).removeClass("showing"); $(this).next().addClass("showing"); }); }); This solution works great using $.next until I get to the third click, whereafter .showing is removed, and is not added since there are no more $.next options. How do I, after getting to the last-child, add .showing to the first-child and then start over? I have tried various options including if($(".alternate span:last-child").hasClass("showing")) { etc. etc. }, and I attempted to use an array and for loop though I failed to make it work. Newb question, I know, but I can't seem to solve this so as a last resort I'm coming here.

Also is there a way I can send the tags to a "class" attribute instead of "name". It seems to not work in Safari.

  • Is it so bad to have heaps of elements in your DOM?

    - by alex
I am making a real estate non interactive display for their shop window. I have kicked jCarousel into doing what I want: Add panels per AJAX Towards the end of the current set, go and AJAX some new panels and insert them This works fine, but it appears calling jQuery's remove() on the prior elements cause an ugly bump. I'm not sure if calling hide() will free up any resources, as the element will still exist (and the element will be off screen anyway). I've seen this, and tried carousel.reset() from within a callback. It just clears out all the elements. This will be running on Google Chrome on Windows XP, and will solely by displaying on LCD televisions. I am wondering, if I can't find a reasonable solution to remove the extra DOM elements, will it bring my application to a crawl, or will Chrome do some clever garbage collecting? Or, how would you solve this problem? Thanks
