• ASP.Net Gridview, How to activate Edit Mode based on ID (DataKey)

  I have a page, lets call it SourceTypes.aspx, that has a a GridView that is displaying a list of Source Types. Part of the GridView is a DataKey, SourceTypeID. If source TypeID is passed to the page via a query sting, how to I put the Gridview into Edit mode for the appropriate row based on the SourceTypeID? The GridView is bound to a SQlDataSource object. I have a feeling I am going to kick myself when the answer appears!! I have looked at Putting a gridview row in edit mode programmatically but it is some what lacking in specifics

• Loading Nested JS Files on the Page

  Hi, I have a JS file that is dependent to another Js file. this Js file is something like this (Common.js) //Some codes here window.onload = PageLoad; //some codes here and then I implement PageLoad function in another Js file. ( I do this because every page has its own PageLoad implementation) and I Load these files like this on my Main.aspx : `<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">` `<\script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="PagesJS/pgeMain.js"></script>` `<\script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="JS/Common.js"></script>` ... ... `</asp:Content>` Every thing works fine on local but when I deploy it, sometimes I get PageLoad undefined Error!   I am currently crossing the jungle of SQL Server scale-out technologies like replication, log-shipping, mirroring... I have the following constraints on my choice: I want the read-only load to be spread accross the primary and the secondary (mirror, subscriber) server Write load can be sent directly to the primary server The solution should be nearly maintainance free. Schema changes should just replicate to the secondary server (attention: replication has some serious constraints here as it seems) Written data should be accessible very quickly (in under 1s, but better would be instantaneously) on the secondary server On server failure I can tollerate up to one hour of data loss easily.   Recently noticed detail description of FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING flag in MSDN, and read several Google search results about unbuffered I/O in Windows. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa363858(v=vs.85).aspx I wondering now, is it really important to consider unbuffered option in file I/O programming? Because many programs use plain old C stream I/O or C++ iostream, I didn't gave any attention to FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING flag before. Let's say we are developing photo explorer program like Picasa. If we implement unbuffered I/O, could thumbnail display speed show noticeable difference in ordinary users?

  in my code i have done something like this. $.get('/Home/Module/Submit', { moduleName: ModName, moduleParameters: moduleParameters }, function(result) { $("#" + target).html(result); }); when i put alert in the function(result) {..} it shows html perfectly(both in alert and at the 'target'-on the .aspx page) BUT when i remove the alert.. on the page the 'html' don't appear or appear randomly (this method is called multiple times) i think that the 'result' comes to function asynchronously thats why it is not bind with the respective 'div' however in the last iteration it gets bind every time. can we make process stop until data gets bind? or is there any functionality (like alert) which can make data bind.. without disturbing UI (unlike alert)?

• Mapping to a different view based on child type

  So i have a situation where i have common base type but i need to map to a different view based on the child type. It looks like i can use a generic mapping class to handle the inheritance http://geekswithblogs.net/nharrison/archive/2010/07/09/inheriting-a-class-map-in-fluent-nhibernate.aspx But how can i conditionally map to a different view based on the child type? I see an EntityType property but it says its obsolete and will be made private in the next version. As an example i have a base class of ContactInfo is standard between contact types but the values come from different places depending on the contact type, this I'll handle through the sql view.

  I'm using a stored procedure in a sql database as the data source for a SqlDataSourceControl on my .aspx page. I'm then using the SqlDataSourceControl as the data source for a gridview on my page. Paging is set to true on the gridview. What i would like to do is set the text of a label to the total number of rows in the gridview. I can use this code 'labelRowCount.Text = GridView2.Rows.Count & " layers found" to return the number of results per page, but it doesn't give me the total. I've looked in several places and haven't been successful in finding a solution.

  I have an Email body that used to be plain text, but now I've made it HTML. The emails are generated using a number of methods and none of them are easy to convert. What I have is: Some content [email protected], some http://www.somewebsite/someurl.aspx. What I'd like to do is create a function that automatically encloses all email addresses and all URLs within a string in HREF tags so that the HTML email reads properly in all email clients. Does anyone have a function for this?

  I need to be able to change the size of my Silverlight object at run time because I have content that changes in size dramatically between pages, and I'd rather not show a Silverlight scroll bar inside the browser scroll bar. I was able to do the following to get it to work: In the aspx page hosting the silverlight control: - Set your Div to the starting size you need it to be - Set the Silverlight Obejct to width=”100%” height=”100%” In your Main page add this: public static void ChangeSize(string height) { var myDiv = HtmlPage.Plugin.Parent; while (myDiv.TagName != "div") myDiv = myDiv.Parent; myDiv.SetStyleAttribute("height", height); } Anywhere you want to now change the size of the page do this: string newHeight = (App.Current.Host.Content.ActualHeight + 75).ToString(); MainPage.ChangeSize(newHeight + "px"); //App.Current.Host.Content.ActualHeight will get the current actual height of the object Is there a way that I can set this to re-size automatically so that I do not have to specify the amount to change? The problem is that I like to have the following format on html page for better readability. <div> <% if (1 == 1) { %> Hello <% } else { %> World <% } %> </div> As you can guess, whenever you type '}' or ';' or etc, visual studio try to do the auto format and change to the following format <div> <% if (1 == 1) { %> Hello <% } else { %> World <% } %> </div> The question is "Is it possible to disable auto formatting just only for HTML pages on VS2010? (NOT for C# code, I still like to have auto formatting for C# pages)"

• Refreshing the asp.net web page after validation

  Hi, I have an asp.net web page (C# 2008) where the user would enter an EmployeeID, and when they tab out of the textbox, they get a messagebox prompting them to select one of two values from a dropdown listbox. The code for the message prompt in the codebehind is : Response.Write("<script>window.alert('Please select Alpha or Beta')</script>"); After the prompt is displayed, and the user clicks "ok" and returns to the page, the text on the page appears distorted (the text in labels are a size larger, the labels get wrapped to another line etc) I tried putting a Response.Redirect("UserProfileMaint.aspx"); after the messagebox in the codebehind, but now, the messagebox does not appear; I want to display the messagebox validation, and ensure the appearance of the text on the page is not distorted. How can I do this?

  I load a piece of html which contains something like: <em> < input type="text" value="Untitled" name="ViewTitle" id="ViewTitle" runat="server"> </em> into my control. The html is user defined, do please do not ask me to add them statically on the aspx page. On my page, I have a placeholder and I can use LiteralControl target = new LiteralControl (); // html string contains user-defined controls target.text = htmlstring to render it property. My problem is, since its a html piece, even if i know the input box's id, i cannot access it using FindControl("ViewTitle") (it will just return null) because its rendered as a text into a Literal control and all the input controls were not added to the container's control collections. I definitely can use Request.Form["ViewTitle"] to access its value, but how can I set its value?

  The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it. I don't know if that makes any sense as this is my first time working on .Net

• Catching / Redirecting 404's (ASP.NET)

  Ive noticed that when I request a page in ASP.NET (webforms) that does not exist, the 'StaticFile' handler deals with the error notification. Id like to be a bit more helpful in these situations. What is the correct way for me to intercept this 404, and as a result, run some code to redirect the user? Two ways Ive thought of doing which I currently don't really like are: 1 - Create a module that basically does a if (!file.exists($url){redirect to $correctedurl}) 2 - Modify the error.aspx.cs(or the default error page) to do something similar (yuck!)

  I am following this article on creating persistent login cookies with my ASP.NET site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.security.formsauthentication.encrypt.aspx The issue is that when I navigate to the page, I get the following compiler error: Compiler Error Message: CS1061: 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'Login_Click' and no extension method 'Login_Click' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Can anyone tell me why this is. The error message doesn't really say much and I don't believe I am missing a directive or assembly reference. The code builds without any problems. EDIT: I did not include code because I said I was following that link which includes code. I copy/pasted from the example.

  Youtube video does not show up in a modal window when viewed in a desktop version of Chrome. • asp.net web application - server side canceling Submit PostBackUrl if not(!) Page.IsValid

  Thanks for any help I have a web application, and the submit uses the PostBackUrl to display data if the form is valid. I need to use different (server side) validation groups, depending on what radiobutton is selected. That is, manually call Page.Validate('ValidationGroupA'). The validation itself is working fine, in terms of Page.IsValid correctly assigned true or false. however, if the page is not valid, the page redirects to the page specified by PostBackUrl on the submit button, where the page is found not to be valid, and the client redirected back with: if (!PreviousPage.IsValid){Response.Redirect("DataEntryPage.aspx");}) However, by getting to here and back again, all form data is lost, and the relevant validation controls and summaries are not displayed. is there an equivalent of javascripts evt.preventDefault() or some other way, once it is detected validation has failed after a manual call to Page.Validate to post the form back with appropriate validation errors displayed?
