• Generating Wrappers for REST APIs

  Would it be feasible to generate wrappers for REST APIs? An earlier question asked about machine readable descriptions of RESTful services addressed how we could write (and then read) API specifications in a standardized way which would lend itself well to generated wrappers. Could a first pass parser generate a decent wrapper that human intervention could fix up? Perhaps the first pass wouldn't be consistent, but would remove a lot of the grunt work and make it easy to flesh out the rest of the API and types. What would need to be considered? What's stopping people from doing this? Has it already been done and my google fu is weak for the day?

• Refactoring While Programming

  When posed with a problem, particularly when it is complicated in nature, I try to take some time to think about the approach I am going to take to solve the problem. Despite this, what often happens is, as I am programming the solution, I start to think of details of the problem that I missed, and I adjust the code accordingly. What results is a mess of code that needs to be refactored. I want to "refactor as I go," but while it sounds easy enough to do, I have a really hard time doing it. When the detail that I missed is small, it is tempting to make a small update to my design, rather than erase what I've already written and write it the way it is supposed to be. It sounds like a question with an obvious answer, but are there any techniques to use to better "refactor as you go"? I know that this is a good principle, but I fail with it time and time again.

I need to get the nearest color available in the tbl_Color table. The expected anaser is "#5D8AA8 - Air Force Blue". This is because #5D8AA8 is the nearest color for #5D8AA7. • Simple script - execute command on selected file

  I want to make a script that will execute .jar file on selected file. Later I will add that script to right-click menu via the tool Nautilus Actions or just place it into nautilus-scripts folder. I have a problem creating script. When I am in a usual console screen and want to execute this jar file on any other file, I use this syntax myfile.jar ./someotherfile.xml and the jar file will write the output to the console screen. So I created a file script.sh, added lines in it #!/bin/bash /home/username/myfile.jar $1 But it does not output anything. I know I am doing something wrong. Please help. To sum, I need a script that will use selected file as a parameter, open the gnome-terminal, inside that terminal it will start JAR file and pass it the selected file. I am confident that this is a very simple procedure, but I am total newbie with shell scripting.

And hitting tab twice does not show me anything either. What I am missing here?

  So what I wanted to do. comperes(7zip) and split 600MB folder into 199MB parts but sadly when I tried to do this task with archive manager it gave me an error, but I know that if I use terminal it will work. I looked this up in askubuntu and found out about this commend 7z a -v5m -mx0 ubuntu.7z I understand that v5m will split it to 5 mb parts and -mx0 means that it will not comperes it but I want it to comperes so what should I write instead of this -mx0 pleas note: I am using .7zip because I most probably will use this file on windows pc thank you in advanced

• Shouldn't all source code be plain text? [on hold]

  Some developing environment/languages save the source code you write in a binary/propietary format that you cannot see or edit with a generic text editor. I'm not talking about compiled code, but the source code. An example could be PowerBuilder and Oracle Forms. It's ok you use proprietary technology if you want, but not being able to open the source code you wrote, in a simple editor, if only to read it, seems like a very strict form of vendor lock-in. Also this prevents you from using text-based version controls that can show you the difference between two versions in a line-by-line base. If the code is plain text, you don't need a license in order to just open it, see it and learn from it. Should it be a golden rule to avoid vendor lock-in to avoid technologies that save your source code to anything but plain text files ?

  I was trying to set up a mail server with no luck. I want it to accept mail from authenticated users only and deliver them. I want the users to be able to connect over the internet. Ideally the mail server wouldn't accept any incoming mail. Essentially I want it to accept messages on a receiving port and transfer them to the intended recipient out port 25. If anyone has some good links and guides that would be awesome. I am quite familiar with linux but have never played around with MTA's and am currently running debian 6. More Specific Problem! Sorry, that was general and postfix is complex. I am having trouble enabling the submission port with encryption and authentication. What Works: Sending mail from the local machine. (sendmail [email protected]). Ports are open. (25 and 587) Connecting to 587 appears to work, I get a "need to starttls" warning and starttls appears to work. • What are the benefits of a disk install vs. Wubi? And can I migrate my settings easily?

  I chose to do the Wubi install because it was short, simple, and easy to reverse (no messing with partitions required). To be honest, I can handle the lack of a hibernate function. I haven't really heard many other benefits of installing on a separate partition than hibernation and negligibly faster hard disk read/write. Yet almost everyone I encounter seems to have opted for the disk installation. Are there more benefits I should be aware of, especially as a college student who wants a fast, efficient machine for documents, web browsing, etc. (nothing big like gaming, I can run that on Windows)? Also, I have a fair amount of settings and packages installed that I spent a bit of time on and would rather not have to do again. Is there any way I can migrate all of these settings from the virtual disk on my C:/ drive (Wubi installation) to the disc installation in another partition? (I have a 16GB USB drive if that'll do the trick)

  I do really hate repeater. I was more a GridView lover but after 3.5 be born, I prefer ListView.  The first problem with Repeater is paging. You will need to write code to handle paging. Second common problem is empty data template.   I may have just bombed a C++ technical phone interview. The interviewer asked mostly about data structures and I was able to go into detail about each of the data structures he asked about. Score one for me I'm thinking. Wrong. Then he asks to join me on a collaboration website where he can see what I am typing. This was the same process as interview #1 which went well, not perfect, but well. So the question was: How do you reverse a linked list? he gave a function prototype similar to Node *reverse(Node *head) I struggled with this for about 10-15 minutes until the hour was up. I was able to get the general idea across but was not able to reverse the link list. My question is that after remembering the answer post interview do I mention this in the thank you letter, if I even should write one?

The technician was unable to make any partition and I also think that he had installed 13.04 over 12.04 and so now my computer is showing some error when I'm starting my computer the error is as follows: error: attempt to read or write outside of the disk 'hd0'. grub rescue _ Before showing this error, few times my computer was working very slow. So kindly someone tell me that is there any way by which I can start my computer. Please also tell me that what things I have to keep in mind while using Ubuntu so that in future I find no difficulties(errors) while using Ubuntu.

  At my work place, we use an external client's web application monitor and respond to support tickets of our clients. the problem with that application is that it does not house a field to enter the actual effort (hours worked on a particular ticket) to be stored in the database. What is needed to write a plug-in for Internet Explorer that would get triggered on a button click on a certain webpage and save some data in an external database? That is, if the support personnel is closing the ticket after resolving it, is it possible to invoke that plugin that asks the personnel to enter the effort spent on that ticket and store it in an external database? We can't modify the web application as it is vendor supplied and not an in-house product.

  The CTO called to inform me of a new project and in the process told me that my code is weird. He explained that my colleagues find it difficult to understand due to the overly complex, often new concepts and technologies used, which they are not familiar with. He asked me to maintain a simple code base and to think of the others that will inherit my changes. I've put considerable time into mastering LINQ and thread-safe coding. However, others don't seem to care nor are impressed by anything other than their paycheck. Do I have to keep it simple (stupid), just because others are not familiar with best practices and efficient coding? Or should I continue to do what I find best and write code my way?

• How can I reinstall GRUB Bootloader on MBR after installing Kubuntu?

  I installed Ubuntu, but then installed Kubuntu over it (formated Ubuntu Partition) because Ubuntu is not compatible with almost any hardware on my PC. Problem is I'm stuck with an old GRUB that says Ubuntu in the options because in my attempts to make it compatible with my hardware I got an old Grub with an image with an Earth that says Debian. How can I replace the GRUB with the one Kubuntu is supposed to install. I don't want to modify just the text, or the command to install on /sdaX, I want to actually re-write the MBR with the latest grub (reinstall the bootloader). Thanks.

• What are the differences between Bigloo and ECL from an embedding standpoint? [migrated]

  I've been looking to embed Lisp in some C++ code. Two options I'm interested in is Bigloo Scheme and ECL (Common Lisp). Reading through the docs they seem to support a very similar feature set. Obviously Bigloo is Scheme and ECL is CLisp, but what other differences do they have? In particular I'm interested in the following criteria: Ease of embedding (for C++, not just C). I don't want to write a bunch of boilerplate. Performance. Bigloo is performance based and has many compiler optimization options, although I can't find anything comparable for ECL. Style of coding. This one is more for Bigloo - is it more functional than ECL? I'm targeting this question towards someone who has used both.
