    I have a Fantasy F1 Website, currently users select their teams using dropdown menus. It works OK but isn't as user friendly as I would like. I would like to implement a drag and drop type of system, there's jQuery code out there that would go part of the way to allowing me to do this: http://jqueryui.com/demos/draggable/ But I am not sure about how to integrate that into PHP and MySQL, my jQuery skills are limited! I'd also need to stop them spending more than a certain amount of money, each driver has a value and the teams can only spend a certain amount of money. There's also limits for example you can only pick a driver once, but you can have three different drivers. Finally, how would you decide that the user had picked their team, I don't want a submit button as that kind of defeats the object of the exercise! Thanks for any advice, I don't expect anyone to write the code for me but some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to Edit or Add a New Row in jqGrid

    My jqGrid that does a great job of pulling data from my database, but I'm having trouble understanding how the Add New Row functionality works. Right now, I'm able to edit inline data, but I'm not able to create a new row using the Modal Box. I'm missing that extra logic that says, "If this is a new row, post this to the server side URL" instead of modifying existing data. (Right now, hitting Submit only clears the form and reloads the grid data.) The documentation states that Add New Row is: jQuery("#editgrid").jqGrid('editGridRow',"new",{height:280,reloadAfterSubmit:false}); but I'm not sure how to use that correctly. I've spent alot of time studying the Demos, but they seem to all use an external button to fire the new row command, rather than using the Modal Form, which I want to do.     Using an ajax helper created for use with Jquery I've created a form that posts comments to "/comments/add", and this works as expected on my local wamp server but not on my production server. On my production server I get a '404 error, cannot find /comments/add'. I've spent quite a bit of time searching for a resolution with no luck so far. I've focused on trying to identify a gap but nothing jumps out at me.   • How to get an ARM CPU clock speed in Linux?

    I have an ARM-based embedded machine based on S3C2416 board. According to the specifications I have available there should be a 533 MHz ARM9 (ARM926EJ-S according to /proc/cpuinfo), however the software running on it "feels" slow, compared to the same software on my Android phone with a 528MHz ARM CPU. /proc/cpuinfo tells me that BogoMIPS is 266.24. I know that I should not trust BogoMIPS regarding performance ("Bogo" = bogus), however I would like to get a measurement on the actual CPU speed. On x86, I could use the rdtsc instruction to get the time stamp counter, wait a second (sleep(1)), read the counter again to get an approximation on the CPU speed, and according to my experience, this value was close enough to the real CPU speed. How can I find the actual CPU speed of given ARM processor? Update I found this simple Pi calculator, which I compiled both for my Android phone and the ARM board. LG1.1.2-MP1.5.2a.memsave ... 5.95 sec. (real time) So it seems that the ARM926EJ-S is slower than my Android phone, but not twice slower as I would expect by the BogoMIPS figures. I am still unsure about the clock speed of the ARM9 CPU.

    For upgrading Redmine from 1.0.1 to 2.1.2, I need to execute the command: rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=production However, doing so produces the following error: rake aborted! Please install the mysql2 adapter: gem install activerecord-mysql2-adapter (mysql2 is not part of the bundle. Add it to Gemfile.) I have ran gem install activerecord-mysql2-adapter, but I still get the same error when I try to run the rake ... command. How do I get my RoR app to recognize that I have the mysql2 adapter installed already? or Is there something wrong with my activerecord-mysql2-adapter installation?   • Is it worthwhile to block malicious crawlers via iptables?

    I periodically check my server logs and I notice a lot of crawlers search for the location of phpmyadmin, zencart, roundcube, administrator sections and other sensitive data. Then there are also crawlers under the name "Morfeus Fucking Scanner" or "Morfeus Strikes Again" searching for vulnerabilities in my PHP scripts and crawlers that perform strange (XSS?) GET requests such as: GET /static/)self.html(selector?jQuery( GET /static/]||!jQuery.support.htmlSerialize&&[1, GET /static/);display=elem.css( GET /static/.*. GET /static/);jQuery.removeData(elem, Until now I've always been storing these IPs manually to block them using iptables. But as these requests are only performed a maximum number of times from the same IP, I'm having my doubts if it does provide any advantage security related by blocking them. I'd like to know if it does anyone any good to block these crawlers in the firewall, and if so if there's a (not too complex) way of doing this automatically. And if it's wasted effort, maybe because these requests come from from new IPs after a while, if anyone can elaborate on this and maybe provide suggestion for more efficient ways of denying/restricting malicious crawler access.     I installed a VSFTP daemon on a CentOS server, using a RSA certificate for logging in using explicit TLS. Now, I cannot upload more than 82k. With files under that limit, there is no problem. The FTP works like a charm. But as soon as a file reaches 82k with FileZilla (81,952 bytes to be exact), the transfer will stop, and the FTP client hangs until time out is reached. FTP client console: 15:10:21 Command: STOR jquery-1.7.2.min.js 15:10:21 Response: 150 Ok to send data. 15:11:21 Error: Connection timed out 15:11:21 Error: File transfer failed after transferring 82 KB in 60 seconds /var/log/vsftpd.log FTP command: Client "x.x.x.x", "STOR jquery-1.7.2.min.js" FTP response: Client "x.x.x.x", "150 Ok to send data." When I compared raw ruby performance to another identical machine the older machine smoked them. It's as if something changed in RVM, or I installed some package that made compiled versions of ruby perform significantly worse. I know this is a tough question to answer, but what things should I look into in order to track down why the performance has suffered so much? edit I just attempted to install with ruby-build and the version installed was fast. Something rvm is doing to build it in my environment is slow.

  • Solving embarassingly parallel problems using Python multiprocessing

    How does one use multiprocessing to tackle embarrassingly parallel problems? Embarassingly parallel problems typically consist of three basic parts: Read input data (from a file, database, tcp connection, etc.). Run calculations on the input data, where each calculation is independent of any other calculation. Write results of calculations (to a file, database, tcp connection, etc.). We can parallelize the program in two dimensions: Part 2 can run on multiple cores, since each calculation is independent; order of processing doesn't matter. Each part can run independently. Part 1 can place data on an input queue, part 2 can pull data off the input queue and put results onto an output queue, and part 3 can pull results off the output queue and write them out. This seems a most basic pattern in concurrent programming, but I am still lost in trying to solve it, so let's write a canonical example to illustrate how this is done using multiprocessing. Here is the example problem: Given a CSV file with rows of integers as input, compute their sums. Bonus points for addressing any/all: Should I have child processes for reading in the data and placing it into the queue, or can the main process do this without blocking until all input is read? Likewise, should I have a child process for writing the results out from the processed queue, or can the main process do this without having to wait for all the results? Should I use a processes pool for the sum operations? If yes, what method do I call on the pool to get it to start processing the results coming into the input queue, without blocking the input and output processes, too? apply_async()? map_async()? imap()? imap_unordered()? Suppose we didn't need to siphon off the input and output queues as data entered them, but could wait until all input was parsed and all results were calculated (e.g., because we know all the input and output will fit in system memory). Should we change the algorithm in any way (e.g., not run any processes concurrently with I/O)?

Example: <asp:RadioButton runat="server" GroupName="payment" ID="creditcard" Checked="true" value="creditcard" /> will generate: <input type="radio" checked="checked" value="creditcard" name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$payment" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_creditcard"> I can't work with <%=creditcard.GroupName% in jquery. Is there a way I can get the generated groupname or name for it?

I see two school of thoughts - Those who use oo concepts a lot and stress on more object oriented approach Those who rely heavily on algorithms and say a particular problem should take o(n) etc. I am not sure where to spend more time ? . Should I spend more time learning OO stuff or learn new stuff like jquery etc or learn travelling sales man algorithm etc ?

  • How can I inject Javascript (including Prototype.js) in other sites without cluttering the global na

    I'm currently on a project that is a big site that uses the Prototype library, and there is already a humongous amount of Javascript code. We're now working on a piece of code that will get "injected" into other people's sites (picture people adding a <script> tag in their sites) which will then run our code and add a bunch of DOM elements and functionality to their site. This will have new pieces of code, and will also reuse a lot of the code that we use on our main site. The problem I have is that it's of course not cool to just add a <script> that will include Prototype in people's pages. If we do that in a page that's already using ANY framework, we're guaranteed to screw everything up. jQuery gives us the option to "rename" the $ object, so it could handle this situation decently, except obviously for the fact that we're not using jQuery, so we'd have to migrate everything. Right now i'm contemplating a number of ugly choices, and I'm not sure what's best... Rewrite everything to use jQuery, with a renamed $ object everywhere. Creating a "new" Prototype library with only the subset we'd be using in "injected" code, and renaming $ to something else. Then again I'd have to adapt the parts of my code that would be shared somehow. Not using a library at all in injected code, to keep it as clean as possible, and rewriting the shared code to use no library at all. This would obviously degenerate into us creating our own frankenstein of a library, which is probably the worst case scenario ever. I'm wondering what you guys think I could do, and also whether there's some magic option that would solve all my problems... For example, do you think I could use something like Caja / Cajita to sandbox my own code and isolate it from the rest of the site, and have Prototype inside of there? Or am I completely missing the point with that? I also read once about a technique for bookmarklets, were you add your code like this: (function() { /* your code */ })(); And then your code is all inside your anonymous function and you haven't touched the global namespace at all. Do you think I could make one file containing: (function() { /* Full Code of the Prototype file here */ /* All my code that will run in the "other" site */ InitializeStuff_CreateDOMElements_AttachEventHandlers(); })(); Would that work? Would it accomplish the objective of not cluttering the global namespace, and not killing the functionality on a site that uses jQuery, for example? Or is Prototype too complex somehow to isolate it like that? (NOTE: I think I know that that would create closures everywhere and that's slower, but I don't care too much about performance, my code is not doing anything that complex)
