• File being used by another process. Reason, and solution?

  The process cannot access the file 'abc.log' because it is being used by another process. Hi, I've seen this exception from my application occationaly but I am still trying to fix that, hope I will get some insight from stackoverflow. In my application I've have defined a WriteToLog function which will write to a log file. Also the mainForm of my application will launch a backgroundWorker do some job which also calls the WriteToLog. Maybe two threads access a file will cause a problem? But in my code I 've already do my best to write flush and close the text file (I think), and here is my code from WriteToLog: StreamWriter sw = null; string newText = ""; try { //populate the content for newText sw = File.AppendText(LOG_FILE); sw.Write(newText); sw.Flush(); sw.Close(); } catch (IOException ex) { MessageBox.Show("Failed to write to log!\n\t" + ex.Message, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } finally { if (sw != null) { sw.Close(); } } I think as long as I flush and close the streamWriter, I should be able call the WriteToLog multi-times and in multi-threads isn't it? Or if I am wrong, could I simple make the file open shared, or there are other reason/solutions?

• jQuery ajax request response is empty in Internet Explorer

• The cross-thread usage of "HttpContext.Current" property and related things

  I read from < Essential ASP.NET with Examples in C# the following statement: Another useful property to know about is the static Current property of the HttpContext class. This property always points to the current instance of the HttpContext class for the request being serviced. This can be convenient if you are writing helper classes that will be used from pages or other pipeline classes and may need to access the context for whatever reason. By using the static Current property to retrieve the context, you can avoid passing a reference to it to helper classes. For example, the class shown in Listing 4-1 uses the Current property of the context to access the QueryString and print something to the current response buffer. Note that for this static property to be correctly initialized, the caller must be executing on the original request thread, so if you have spawned additional threads to perform work during a request, you must take care to provide access to the context class yourself. I am wondering about the root cause of the bold part, and one thing leads to another, here is my thoughts: We know that a process can have multiple threads. Each of these threads have their own stacks, respectively. These threads also have access to a shared memory area, the heap. The stack then, as I understand it, is kind of where all the context for that thread is stored. For a thread to access something in the heap it must use a pointer, and the pointer is stored on its stack. So when we make some cross-thread calls, we must make sure that all the necessary context info is passed from the caller thread's stack to the callee thread's stack.   Here's the scenario: I have two classes ("Page" and "Field"), that are descended from a common class ("Pield"). They represent tags in an XML file and are in the following hierarchy: <page> <field> <page> ... </page> ... </field> ... </page> I.e.: Page and Field objects are in a hierarchy of alternating type (there may be more than one Page or Field to each rung of the hierarchy). Every Field and Page object has a parent property, which points to the respective parent object of the other type. This is not a problem unless the parent-child mechanism is controlled by the base class (Pield), which is shared by the two descended classes (Page and Field). • multiple dependent android projects in eclipse

  Hi there! I just started to play with android dev and java+eclipse is pretty new to me. I managed to create simple project and run it on my device. Now I want to create simple game (more of them actually) and I would love to use shared code base for all of them (game loop, initialization, etc..). Problem is that I have no idea how to correctly do this. I created android project called engine with all basic stuff that I need and made it work on device. Now I tried to create another project in same workspace called mygame. Main class (activity) of mygame is MyGameApp which inherits from EngineApp (main activity of my engine project) which inherits from Activity. I added engine project into required projects in mygame build path tab in properties. Problem is that when I try to run this project it crashes on ClassNotFoundException trying to find my MyGameApp class. Any help (or pointer to some articles that explain how this is done) is greatly appreciated. few hours of googling didn't help much :/

  I wish to have two threads. The first thread1 occasionally calls the following pseudo function: void waitForThread2() { if (thread2 is not idle) { return; } notifyThread2IamReady(); while (thread2IsExclusive) { } } The second thread2 is forever in the following pseudo loop: for (;;) { Notify thread1 I am idle. while (!thread1IsReady()) { } Notify thread1 I am exclusive. Do some work while thread1 is blocked. Notify thread1 I am busy. Do some work in parallel with thread1. } What is the best way to write this such that both thread1 and thread2 are kept as busy as possible on a machine with multiple cores. I would like to avoid long delays between notification in one thread and detection by the other. I tried using pthread condition variables but found the delay between thread2 doing 'notify thread1 I am busy' and the loop in waitForThread2() on thear2IsExclusive() can be up to almost one second delay. I then tried using a volatile sig_atomic_t shared variable to control the same, but something is going wrong, so I must not be doing it correctly.

• Rails Form Submission, User can't be blank

  I'm trying to create an event through an event form and I keep getting a form error that says "User can't be blank". The event needs a user_id to post a feed_item showing who created the event. • Location of DB models in Zend Framework - want them centralized

  Maybe I've been staring at the problem too long and it's much simpler than I think, but I'm stuck right now. I have three websites that are going to share database models. I've structured my applications so that I have an application directory for each site and a public directory for each site. The DB models live in a directory in the library along with Zend Framework and my third party libraries. I use the Autoloader class and when I try to instantiate one of my DB classes, it fails. The library directory is in my include path, but for whatever reason it refuses to instantiate my classes. It will work if I have my models in my application directory, but that's not the point. They're supposed to be shared classes in a Library. $model = new Model_Login(); $model->hello_world(); This fails when its in the library. The class is just a test: class Model_Login { public function hello_world() { echo "hello world"; } } Everything works until I try to instantiate one of my models. I've even tried renaming the class to something else (Db_Login), but that doesn't work either. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Is there a way to sync (two way) tables betwen a mysql server and a local MS Access?

  Help me figure out a solution to a (not so unique) problem. My research group has gps devices attached to migratory animals. Every once in a while, a research tech will be within range of an animal and will get the chance to download all the logged points. Each individual spits out a single dbf and new locations are just appended to the end (so the file is just cumulative). These data need to be shared among a research group. Everyone else (besides me) wants to use access, so they can make small edits and prefer that interface. They do not like using MySQL. The solution I came up with is: a) The person who downloads the file goes to a web page, enters animal ID into a form, chooses .dbf file and uploads to a mysql database on the server (I still have to write php code to read the dbf and write sql insert statements from it). b) Everyone syncs from their local access database to the server. (This is natively possible from access but very clunky). Is there a tool (preferably open source), that can compare a access table to mysql table and sync the two (both ways)? Alternatively, does anyone have a more elegant solution? The ultimate goal is to allow everyone to have access to the most current data on their computers using their preferred database app.

• How to change the default branch to push in mercurial?

  I like creating named branches in Mercurial to deal with features that might take a while to code, so when I push I do a hg push -r default to insure I'm only pushing changes to the default branch. However, it is a pain to have to remember -r default every since time I do do a push or outgoing command. So I tried fix this by adding this config to my ~/.hgrc: [defaults] push = push -r default outgoing = outgoing -r default The problem is, those config lines are not really defaults, they are aliases. They work as intended until I try to do a hg push -r <some revision>. And the "default" I've setup just obliterates the revision I passed in. (I see that defaults are deprecated, but aliases have the same problem). I tried looking around, but I can't find anything that will allow me to set a default branch to push AND allow me to override it when necessary. Anyone know of something else I could do? ps: I do realize that I could have separate clones for each branch, but I would rather not do that. It's annoying to have to switch directories, particularly when you have shared configuration or editor workspaces.

  I am looking an android Shared Preferences and I am wondering is there a way to just check if the preferences file exists. SharedPreferences mySharedPreferences ; mySharedPreferences=getSharedPreferences(“Name_of_your_preference”,mode); This above code leads me to believe that "Name_of_Your_preferene" is stored as a file or some sort of container that will contain your preferences. I am wondering is there away to check if this exists or not. When a user loads up an activity I want to save all the settings into this file with some default values(off for all settings). However I only want to do this if they are going to the page for the first time. Otherwise if I would do something like this every time the page loads up SharedPreferences.Editor editor= mySharedPreferences.edit(); /* now store your primitive type values. In this case it is true, 1f and Hello! World */ editor.putBolean(“myBoolean”,true); editor.putFloat(“myFloat”,1f); editor.putString(“myString”,” Hello! • Content Container Overlaps Menu?

  I'm currently working on a Joomla template using CSS divs. I have a header set up with our logo image in a div floated to the left, an adspace floated to the right, and the menu bar on the bottom. My content is divided into three div columns that are contained in "container.": the left column is floated left, the center is not floated, and the right is floated to the right. • Xenserver 5.6 SR_BACKEND_FAILURE_47 no such volume group, but it is there

  I've looked everywhere (Google, here, a bunch of other sites), and while I have found people with similar problems, I couldn't find a single one with a solution to this. Last night our xenserver 5.6 box corrupted the /var/xapi/state.db, and I couldn't fix the xml, no matter what I did. After a good hour fiddling with the file, I figured it would be faster to just reinstall. The server had one 2tb hard drive running Xen and its VMs, and since Xen's install said it would erase the hard drive it was installed on, I plugged a new harddrive and installed Xen on it, without selecting any hard drives for storage. I Figured I could make it happen after install, using the partition on the old harddrive with all my VMs on it. • Mounting NAS share: Bad Address

  I've faced to the problem that can't solve. Hope you can help me with it. I have a storage QNAP TS-459U, with it's own Linux, and 'massive1' folder shared, which I need to mount to my Debian server. They are connected by regular patch cord. Debian server has two network interfaces - eth0 and eth1. eth0 is for Internet, eth1 is for QNAP. So, I'm saying this: mount -t cifs //169.254.100.100/massive1/ /mnt/storage -o user=admin , where 169.254.100.100 is an IP of QNAP's interface. The result I get (after entering password): mount error(14): Bad address Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) Tried: mount.cifs, smbmount, with '/' at the end of the network share and without it, and many other variations of that command. And always its: mount error(14): Bad address Funny thing is when I was in Data Center, I had connected my netbook to QNAP by the same scheme (with Fedora 16 on it), and it connected without any problems, I could read/write files on the QNAP's NAS share! So I'm really stuck with the Debian. I can't undrestand where's the difference with Fedora, making this error. Yeah, I've used Google. Couldn't find any useful info. Ping to the QNAP's IP is working, I can log into QNAP's Linux by ssh, telnet on 139's port is working. This is network interface configuration I use in Debian: IP: 169.254.100.1 Netmask: 255.255.0.0 The only diffence in connecting to Fedora and Debian is that in Fedora I've added gateway - 169.254.100.129, but ping to this IP is not working, so I think it's not necessary at all. • Partitioning recommendations for a Proxmox VM Server (OpenVZ)

  We are new to virtualization and we are planning to turn our online server into a virualized one, mainly for maintenance, backup and recovery improvements. Initially we would only have one real virtual system with load plus 1-3 copys for testing and recovering and maybe a small centralized syslog virtual machine. We would like, if possible the host machine to include an iptables plus rsync to back up to other machines and some other global security systems. Due to this and the offerings of our hosting supplier we are mainly considering Proxmox for its simplicity (we like the idea of its web admin panel) and as I also understand that the container approach of OpenVMZ systems may fit well resource wise with our setup. The base system comes with debian so we can personalise it to our requirements. Proxmox installations default installs an LVM partition for the VMs. Our doubts are with the fact of what would be the best partition structure for this considering that: we would like to have a mirror of the root partition we could boot from if required (our provider supports booting the system from another partition via control panel) we ideally would like to have a partition that could be shared among the VM systems. We still don't know if this is possible directly with OpenVMZ containers, otherwise we are considering doing this by sharing it via NFS on the host machine. we want to use the backup system available on the proxmox host administrator to programme VMs backups and then rsync it to another machine. With this based on a Linux Raid of aprox (750Gb) we are considering something like: ext3_1/ - (20Gb) ext3_2/bak_root - (20Gb) mostly unmounted, root partition sync LVM_1 /var/lib/vz - (390Gb) partition for virtual images LVM_2 /shared_data - (30Gb) LVM_3 /backups - (300Gb) where all backups would be allocated Our initial tests with Proxmox seem to have issues with snapshots backups like this, perhaps caused by the fact that they can not be done to another LVM partition (error: command 'lvcreate --size 1024M --snapshot --name vzsnap-ns204084.XXX.net-0 /dev/pve/LV' failed with exit code 5) in which case we might have to use a standart ext3 partition (but unsure if we can do this with the 4 primary partition limitations). Does this makes more or less sense? Would it be mad to for example write VMs /var/logs to a NFS mounted partition (on the host system)? Are their any other easier ways to mount host system partitions (or folders) to the VMs?

• VMware Player loses internet connectivity

  Periodically, the internet simply stops working in my virtual machine, and the only way I can get it working again is to restart the host computer. Since I use the virtual machine specifically for testing web pages, this is, shall we say, a bother. Details: I have Windows XP Pro running in VMware Player (v. 3.0.0 build-203739) on a Windows 7 host. It's set to NAT (shared IP address) because the firewall won't allow a bridged connection. Every couple of days or so, first the internet slows down to a crawl, then eventually it stops working altogether. Both VMWare and the virtual OS report that they are connected, everything looks just peachy, I can reach the internet from the host, but on the VM, all web pages time out and/or report that the server could not be found. (Browser-independent; tried with IE, FF, Chrome, Safari, and Opera.) When this happens, the only way I've found to restore the internet connectivity is to restart the host machine. Restarting the VM doesn't help, nor does refreshing network connections on either the host or the guest. (Although I'm not entirely sure I've found the proper way to refresh a network connection in Windows 7...) I have not noticed any predictability about when the problem occurs, i.e. it's not immediately after I do anything special. It seems to occur mostly after putting the host to sleep once or twice, but it has happened even if the host has been in continuous use. It also seems independent of when I start using the VM - sometimes, I wake up the VM and the internet is really slow in it, then eventually stops working altogether; other times, I wake up the VM, use it perfectly happily for a while, then suddenly the internet is gone. Does anyone know why this is occurring? Failing that, is there a workaround that's less drastic than restarting the host? (Windows 7 startup times are blazingly fast compared to previous versions of Windows, but it's still a hassle to close all my programs and reopen them again.) Edit: while badges overall are nice, the Tumbleweed badge isn't helping me to solve my problem. Hasn't anyone encountered anything even remotely similar?

  A client has a Sonicwall Pro 2040 running SonicOS 3.0, and they'd like to be able to use the L2TP VPN client from their iPads to connect to internal services (Citrix, etc). I've enabled the L2TP VPN server on the Sonicwall, made sure to set AES-128 for phase 2, and set up the configuration on a test iPad with the appropriate username, password, and pre-shared key. • Old operational master still thinks it is the "one"

  Hi there, I have a domain with 3 AD servers for now i'll just call them: AD01 (Win 2008 GC, Operations master) AD02 (Win 2008 GC) AD03 (Win 2003 GC) A couple of months there was some hardware issues with AD01 so the operations master, PDC and Infrastructure Master was moved to AD02. All machines where on while this was happening. AD01 (Win 2008 GC) AD02 (Win 2008 GC, Operations master) AD03 (Win 2003 GC) AD01 was then shutdown for a month. Upon starting this machine up with replaced hardware (NIC and RAID card) i now have a weird problem. To correct, run "repadmin /options AD01 -DISABLE_OUTBOUND_REPL" So the problem appeasr to be that when i moved the operations master, AD01 never got the memo, and now that it's started up, all the other AD servers don't think its the boss anymore when it trys to replicate etc. So i really need to manually update AD01 so that it knows who the operations master, instrastructure and PDC is - but i'm not having any luck I've been googling for nearly a day and all solutions lead to "the cake is a lie" Your ninja skills will be greatly appreciated

• BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

  I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it. I m attaching the Dcdiags for all three servers.
