  • Compiling .xsl files into .class files

    - by Alex Ciminian
I'm currently working on a Java web project (Spring) which involves heavy use of xsl transformations. The stylesheets seldom change, so they are currently cached. I was thinking of improving performance by compiling the xsl-s into class files so they wouldn't have to be interpreted on each request. I'm new to Java, so I don't really know the ecosystem that well. What's the best way of doing this (libraries, methods etc.)? Thanks, Alex

  • CMake: Mac OS X: ld: unknown option: -soname

Closing the Virtual Keyboard (SIP) and forcing binding in WP7 Derik Whittaker has a couple new posts up... this first is about how to close the SIP and forcing binding in a WP7 app... if you've run many WP7 apps I'm sure you understand the issue. Help my Slider control does not work inside a Grid in WP7 In Derik Whittaker's next post he details a problem he had with a Slider in a Grid that went AWOL... and how he resolved it.. also is asking why the solution works. PathListBox: making rockin' animations Holy Crap ... Alex Knight has his second PathListBox tutorial up and just stop reading and go check it out... dang! ... I'll still be here when you come back! Windows Phone 7, Animations and Data Binding Maurice de Beijer details an interesting problem he ran into where his databinding was hampering a page animation, what the root problem was and how he resolved it.. good information. Windows Phone From Scratch – Navigation Jesse Liberty has the next episode in the Windows Phone from Scratch series up and is talking about Navigation... he demos an ap with 3 pages and simple navigation this time. A ReorderListBox for Windows Phone 7 Found in Jeff Blankenburg's number 11, this post by Jason Ginchereau is a description of a Drag/Drop reodering ListBox drop-in for WP7 ... very cool, and source is on the post. What I Learned In WP7 – #Issue 11 Jeff Blankenburg's number 11 is a couple links itself... one to Jeff Wilcox for Silverlight UnitTest Framework, and one to Jason Ginchereau for Listbox Drag/Drop reordering... going to have to look that one up. • Unable to load UIView with initWithNibName in Apple SDK 3.1.3

    - by James Foster
I am trying to load my UIViewController and corresponding UIView programmatically in the AppDelegate class. I have the following in the applicationDidFinishLaunchingMethod of the AppDelegate class: (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { NSLog(@"--- AppDelegate applicationDidFinishLaunching Start"); // Override point for customization after application launch //MainController *controller = [[MainController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainView" bundle:nil]; MainController2 *controller = [[MainController2 alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainView2" bundle:nil]; if (controller.view == nil) { NSLog(@"--- controller view is nil!!!!!!"); } [window addSubview:controller.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; NSLog(@"--- AppDelegate applicationDidFinishLaunching End"); } Basically the view in the viewController doesn't load and when the application launches, it just shows the blank window. What is funny is that it worked before and then just stopped working. I am wondering if this is a bug in iPhone SDK 3.1.3??? This is a really annoying issue, and I was quite a ways along in a new project when I started having this problem and had to start over with a blank project and copy over all of my resources, when it started happening again... I have uninstalled iPhone OS 3.1.3 and reinstalled and the problem prevails... I also created a second UIViewController class and corresponding nib which DOES LOAD just fine... I am not sure why one works and the other doesn't it... You can download a sample project which demonstrates this issue at the following link: http://www.mediafire.com/?nmhnmhbeyki To switch back and forth between the working/nonworking UIViewController and UIView simply comment comment/comment out the initWithNibLine lines in the AppDelegate and the corresponding #import "MainController.h" statements in the appdelegate.h file... Any ideas??? The sample project I have linked to isolates the problem in as few files/lines of code as possible... I appreciate any help you might be able to provide. Thanks, James

  • XStream JavaBeanConverter not serializing properties

    - by Steve Foster
Hello All, Attempting to use XStream's JavaBeanConverter and running into an issue. Most likely I'm missng something simple, or not understanding XStream's converter handling well enough. @XStreamAlias("test") public class TestObject { private String foo; public String getFoo() { return foo; } public void setFoo(String foo) { this.foo = foo; } } public void test() throws Exception { XStream x = new XStream(new XppDriver()); x.autodetectAnnotations(true); x.processAnnotations(TestObject.class); x.registerConverter(new JavaBeanConverter(x.getMapper())); TestObject o = new TestObject(); o.setFoo("bar"); String xml = x.toXML(o); System.out.println(xml); /* Expecting... <test> <foo>bar</foo> </test> But instead getting... <test> <foo/> </test> */ } I tried adding a trace on the TestObject.getFoo() method and it appears it is being called by XStream, but the data isn't being written to the output stream. After looking at the source for JavaBeanConverter, it looks like my implementation should work, which leads me to believe I haven't configured something correctly during the XStream setup. Am I just missing something simple? Thanks! Edit Also, if it helps, I'm using the following Maven deps for this... <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.servicemix.bundles</groupId> <artifactId>org.apache.servicemix.bundles.xstream</artifactId> <version>1.3_3</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>org.apache.servicemix.bundles</groupId> <artifactId>org.apache.servicemix.bundles.xpp3</artifactId> <version>1.1.4c_3</version> </dependency>

  • Bidirectional URL Rewriting/Redirecting in IIS7.5

    - by David Foster
First off, I'd like to apologise for the ludicrous title. I'm not trying to sound cool or clever by using the word 'bidirectional', I just genuinely couldn't think of another way to describe it. Promise. On to my problem. I have the following in the <system.webserver>/<rewrite>/<rules> section of my Web.config. <!-- Who We Are --> <rule name="1A"> <match url="^whoweare.aspx$" /> <action type="Redirect" url="who-we-are" redirectType="Permanent" /> </rule> <rule name="1B"> <match url="^who-we-are$" /> <action type="Rewrite" url="whoweare.aspx" /> </rule> <!-- What We Do --> <rule name="2A"> <match url="^whatwedo.aspx$" /> <action type="Redirect" url="what-we-do" redirectType="Permanent" /> </rule> <rule name="2B"> <match url="^what-we-do$" /> <action type="Rewrite" url="whatwedo.aspx" /> </rule> Now this works tremendously. Effectively, if you visit the URL http://example.com/whoweare.aspx (which is the actual URL of the page), you'll be 301 redirected to the URL http://example.com/who-we-are (the virtual URL), and if you visit the virtual URL, you'll be rewritten to the actual URL. This means super sexy URLs without duplication, and it doesn't result in reciprocal rewriting either, so smiles all round. My question is this: could this be done more elegantly? It's a little cumbersome having to write out two rules to ensure that one is redirected to the other, and the other is rewritten to the one. Is it possible to write one rule which will achieve the functionality of the above two?

  • Setting width of UISegmentedControl after removing a segment

    - by David Foster
I have a UISegmentedControl of width 280. In code, I need to remove the third segment, set the UISegmentedControl's width to 200 and then re-centralise. By configuring the springs and struts in IB, I have set the segmented control up such that when I set the width directly it will automatically re-centre. However, when setting the width in code, is it true I need to set it via -setFrame? If this is the case, then I also need to set its X origin, which renders my auto-centralising redundant. My code: [segmentedControl removeSegmentAtIndex:2 animated:NO]; [segmentedControl setFrame:CGRectMake(segmentedControl.frame.origin.x + ((segmentedControl.frame.size.width - TWO_SEGMENT_SEGMENTED_CONTROL_WIDTH) / 2), segmentedControl.frame.origin.y, TWO_SEGMENT_SEGMENTED_CONTROL_WIDTH, segmentedControl.frame.size.height)]; This works, but seems hugely overblown for my purposes. Is there really no simpler way to set solely the width of the control in code?

  • Remove clear button (grey x) to the right of UISearchBar when cancel button tapped

    - by David Foster
Right, to begin my question, here's some screenies of the problem already solved by the Spotify app: Spotify's Step 1: Standard UISearchBar not in editing mode. Spotify's Step 2: UISearchBar now in editing mode. Search term entered. Cancel button slides in from the right, and the clear button (grey x) appears. Spotify's Step 3: Cancel button pressed; keyboard slides out and the search bar is no longer in editing mode. Search term remains and the grey x button is now hidden. At present, the following code fires off when my cancel button is pressed: - (void)searchBarCancelButtonClicked:(UISearchBar *)searchBar { [searchBar resignFirstResponder]; [searchBar setShowsCancelButton:NO animated:YES]; } Which results in: My Step 3: Search bar now not in editing mode. Cancel button and keyboard has slid out. Search term remains but so does the grey x. So, my question is this: given that -resignFirstResponder (and -endEditing:, FYI) does not hide the grey x button when a search bar has had text entered into it, how does one hide it? Thanks again, friends.

  • Programmatically Centering UIViews

    - by David Foster
I've seen a bunch of similar questions to this, but nothing seems to be completely what I'm looking for. Do forgive me if I have missed the solution answered in another question, though! Right. I have a view. 160 pixels both tall and wide. I know that this view is going to be used as a subview, and I know that it always needs to be centered about both axis in whatever situation it's used. If defining the view programmatically, how can I be sure that it is always perfectly centered, horizontally and vertically, relative to its superview? So far, all I have is this simple code: - (void)loadView { self.view = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(80, 150, 160, 160)]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor greenColor]; self.view.autoresizingMask = (UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleLeftMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleRightMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleTopMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleBottomMargin); [self.view release]; } This does the centralization, but only in the simplest of cases. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

  • % style macros not supported in some C++/CLI project property pages under VS2010?

    - by Dave Foster
We're currently evaluating VS2010 and have upgraded our VS2008 C++/CLI project to the new .vcxproj format. I've noticed that a certain property we had set in the project settings did not get translated properly. Under Configuration Properties - Managed Resources - Resource Logical Name, we used to have (in VS2008) the setting: $(IntDir)\$(RootNamespace).$(InputName).resources which indicated that all .resx files were to compile into OurLib.SomeForm.resources inside of the assembly. (the Debug portion is dropped when assembled) According to MSDN, the $(InputName) macro no longer exists and should be replaced with %(Filename). However, when translating the above line to swap those macros, it does not seem to ever expand. The second .resx file it tries to compile, I get a "LINK : fatal error LNK1316: duplicate managed resource name 'Debug\OurLib.%(Filename).resources". This indicates to me that the % style macros are not being expanded here, at least in this specific property. If we don't set anything in that property, the default behavior seems to be to add the subdirectory as a prefix, such as: OurLib.Forms.SomeForm.resources where Forms is the subdir of our project that the .resx file lives. This only occurs when the .resx file is in an immediate subdirectory of the project being built. If a .resx file exists somewhere else on disk (aka ..\OtherLib\Forms\SomeForm2.resx) this prefix is NOT added. This is causing an issue with loading form resources, as it does not account for this possible prefix, even though we are using the standard Forms Designer method of getting at resources: System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager^ resources = (gcnew System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager(SomeForm::typeid)); and do not specify the .resources file by name. The issue I've just described may not be the same as the original question, but if I were to fix the Resource Logical Name issue I think this would all go away. Does anyone have any information about these % macros and where they are allowed to be used?

  • Using FindAll on a List<List<T>> type

    - by Ken Foster
Assuming public class MyClass { public int ID {get; set; } public string Name {get; set; } } and List<MyClass> classList = //populate with MyClass instances of various IDs I can do List<MyClass> result = classList.FindAll(class => class.ID == 123); and that will give me a list of just classes with ID = 123. Works great, looks elegant. Now, if I had List<List<MyClass>> listOfClassLists = //populate with Lists of MyClass instances How do I get a filtered list where the lists themselves are filtered. I tried List<List<MyClass>> result = listOfClassLists.FindAll (list => list.FindAll(class => class.ID == 123).Count > 0); it looks elegant, but doesn't work. It only includes Lists of classes where at least one class has an ID of 123, but it includes ALL MyClass instances in that list, not just the ones that match. I ended up having to do List<List<MyClass>> result = Results(listOfClassLists, 123); private List<List<MyClass>> Results(List<List<MyClass>> myListOfLists, int id) { List<List<MyClass>> results = new List<List<MyClass>>(); foreach (List<MyClass> myClassList in myListOfLists) { List<MyClass> subList = myClassList.FindAll(myClass => myClass.ID == id); if (subList.Count > 0) results.Add(subList); } return results; } which gets the job done, but isn't that elegant. Just looking for better ways to do a FindAll on a List of Lists. Ken

  • Dynamic "OR" conditions in Rails 3

    - by Ryan Foster
I am working on a carpool application where people can search for lifts. They should be able to select the city from which they would liked to be picked up and choose a radius which will then add the cities in range to the query. However the way it is so far is that i can only chain a bunch of "AND" conditions together where it would be right to say "WHERE start_city = city_from OR start_city = a_city_in_range OR start_city = another_city_in_range" Does anyone know how to achive this? Thanks very much in advance. class Search < ActiveRecord::Base def find_lifts scope = Lift.where('city_from_id = ?', self.city_from) #returns id of cities which are in range of given radius @cities_in_range_from = City.location_ids_in_range(self.city_from, self.radius_from) #adds where condition based on cities in range for city in @cities_in_range_from scope = scope.where('city_from_id = ?', city) #something like scope.or('city_from_id = ?', city) would be nice.. end end

  • Core Data: Overkill for simple, static UITableView-based iPhone App?

    - by David Foster
Hello! I have a rather simple iPhone app consisting of numerous views containing a single, grouped table view. These views are held together in navigation controllers which are grouped in a tab bar. Simple stuff. My table views do little more than list text (like "Dog", "Cat" and "Weasel") and this data is being served from a collection of plists. It's perhaps worth mentioning too that these tables are 'static' in the sense that their data is pre-determined and will only ever be amended—and if so, very rarely indeed—by the developer (in this case, moi). This rudimentary approach has reached its limits though, and I think I'm going to need something a bit more relational. I have worked a tad with Core Data in the past, but only with apps whose data is determined by user input. I have four closely related questions: Is Core Data overkill for an app consisting mainly of a selection of simple table views? Do you recommend using Core Data to manage data which is predetermine and extremely unlikely to ever change? Can one lock Core Data down so that its data can't change, thereby relinquishing my responsibility as the developer to handle the editing and saving of the managed object context? How do I go about giving Core Data my predetermined data, and in a format I know that it can work with? Thanks a bunch guys.
