    I need to share files with clients outside of my business and unfortunately our FTP server is becoming too much of a hassle (with regards to clients use of an ftp client and creating password protected downloads based on customized account privileges) Essentially, I need: a remote service that mimics an FTP server with a web interface (easy for basic internet users to comprehend). over 100gb of storage file transfer size over 2gb customizable user account privileges (password protected downloads) secure storage and data transfer preferably less then $100/mo I have already looked into some services that almost meet my requirements (StreamFile.com, box.net, onehub.com, filesanywhere.com)- has anyone used a service they would recommend? cheers, jack

    I need an alternative to Visio for making diagrams (particularly signal processing block diagrams) that includes some kind of custom stencils + connection points. I just spent 2 hrs learning bits and pieces of Dia only to find that it has no rotational capabilities, not even 90 degree rotations. Otherwise it's great. Any suggestions?

    Possible Duplicate: Auto-tagging MP3s I'm currently using musicbranz picard to tag files that don't have any usable tagging information. For some reason, currently none of the files I trying to ID seem to be identified, despite some of them them being artists who are almost certainly on musicbrainz. So, I'm looking for something that uses an alternate database and does the same thing - to identify unknown music files off an audio fingerprint. Windows is preferred, but I would be fine with any of the big 3 OSes (Windows/Linux/OS X).

I am looking for a replacement software where I can define my categories and I can place a note in one the categories. Plus the ability to search text across all the notes. I prefer an Outlook plugin but a small quick launch app will do.

However before using it I was wondering if there were any other similar apps that could be better or easier to use?   • Remote paging with Nagios when network is down and email won't work -- cellular modems and alternatives

    What is the best option for remote paging when network services are down? I'm looking for a solution that can let me know when network services are down during off-hours only, and especially when email/smtp services are out. Therefore, it needs to be redundant to our network and power supply. I'm imagining a cellular modem is one option. What's the price range for these? Is anybody using them and feel that they are worth the cost? I'm imagining that it's something we would end up sending an emergency page ~ 1x/month at most, so I'd like the pricing to reflect that--I don't mind a high per-page cost as long as it has a low recurring cost. Another option would be to expose at least one server to remote ping, and run a check script on a remote server. Are there paid options for this? Currently, we run Nagios on a Linux VM on a Windows 2008 Hyper-V host. It would be great if the solution would work in that environment, but I know it's tricky with external devices, and we could move Nagios to a standalone workstation if needed.

    I have been using Safari with ClickToPlugin and was wondering if there was anything similar for Chrome. I am looking for both the click-through to plugin functionality as well as the HTML5 video replacements. I've done some looking around the Chrome extensions page and found some specific extensions to help with forcing the HTML5 on YouTube or to block Flash but none seem offer the generic functionality (click-through works for any given plugin) and flexibility that ClickToPlugin does (ClickToPlugin has HTML5 video replacements for a plethora of websites). I am looking to mimic the aforementioned features in Chrome, but they don't necessarily have to be provided by one single extension.

    Hi, I'd like to use the HP fingerprint sensor on my Elitebook 2530p. The system is a fresh Win7 Enterprise 64-bit and we are looking for an alternative to the HP ProtectTools Security Suite, which seems a bit bloated. We have tried the UPEK ProtectorSuite (both WBF and stand-alone edition) and they say they can't find the fingerprint device. The device shows up in device manager, in the BioMetric system configuration I have enabled logon to Windows and Domain credentials. Are there any other fingerprint login software (free or commercial) that you can recommend. Thanks in advance, Alex

  • Alternatives to amavis for RAM-bound server

    I'm running a small VPS server that works as web and mail server. It has only 256MB of RAM, and it's sucking 100MB of swap constantly. I've found that one of the culprits is amavis, taking about 30MB of resident memory, and would like to ditch it and use some alternative. I don't have much mail daily, so it being a bit slower wouldn't be a problem. I'd like to avoid Spamassassin altogether, if possible, because it's quite big even if used in offline mode. I'm already using RBLs and a few small blacklists, and used greylisting for a while but abandoned it because it gave me a few problems (don't remember which; I think it was related to not configuring properly white lists for several big ISPs). So, is there some alternative to amavis that I could use without much RAM (and if possible, CPU) usage? Thanks in advance.

    I wonder, if there are any faster builds of zlib around with more advanced optimizations? If it's possible to optimize it using SSE instructions or Intel C++ compiller, or some trick which were patented earlier (I know patents were a serious limitation during gzip/zlib development), have anyone bothered to implement that? I am especially interested in compression speed, which have a direct impact on high-performance web-services serving static & dynamic content.

    Dear All, Am feeling a touch confused and overwhemled. From what I gather even though ESXi is free I will only be able to manage my VMs (create or power on etc) for 60 days unless I buy a licence for vSphere. This is somewhat frustrating. As I am looking for a home lab to practice for various certs I was hoping to also practice using vmware stuff to do so. Have I got the wrong end of the stick? Is there a free built in web interface like there was with VMServer or is the only option vSphere (which is massively out of my price range)?     I use SFTP Net Drive to mount a remote VPS so I can back it up. However, it's taken over 3+ days to scan! I ran 'ls -lR' from my desktop over the mounted network drive and it only took about 5m to list all the files! There are only about 5000 files and 2 GB. I know Crashplan can run headless on the VPS itself, but that sounds like a pain to set up, and it takes so much memory on the server. The VPS doesn't have a lot of memory to spare - it's less than my desktop. Is there another program that can communicate with a Crashplan backup protocol and has a command line interface? backup /home

    I used to love Pointcast in the early days of the internet; it was a screensaver that, like RSS feeds, brought in all your favorite sources with news articles and stock quotes along with various other info and turned it into a visually interesting screensaver. It was before broadband though and I heard so many work places had to ban it that the company eventually folded. But I wondered if there are any modern day equivalents? I certainly have feed readers and some awesome desktop gadgets that bring in various things like news and weather, and I don't want a whole screensaver like pointcast. But I wondered if anyone out there had other suggestions worth taking a look at; making some kind of feed display of interest, or some other way to turn favorite content into more animated desktop background, etc...

Is there an alternative to RoboForm (which for some reason makes my FF very slow, because of some other extensions) which has the same way of working. What I mean, you click on ... and it opens a new tab with the page in question, and logs on to it (so no databases, and such ...). One other advantage would be if it kept passwords locally. Basically, I'm looking for RoboForm other than RoboForm. Anyone knows of any ?

  • Future raid update in a NAS and HP ProLiant alternatives

    I'm thinking of buying the HP ProLiant MicroServer*. My question is if I just put a single 2TB drive, how easy would it be in the future to upgrade to a second 2TB drive in a RAID-1 setup? Can this be done without formatting the original 2TB drive? *It looks like the £100 cashback offer is stopping end of Aug, making this system cost around £260 without HDDs. Are there any other brands that anyone would recommend for all-in-one hardware solutions.
